You take as long as you like mate! You saved me a fortune over the years......... done my cambelt & waterpump over the last few years, first time I had the laptop on the passenger seat :) Literally discovered today that my runner needs replacing (bought the complete set a few years ago just in case) and shutting the door today the top roller dropped out of the track............first time I've had an issue with it in 14 years of ownership (and shes my work van, too!)...........so this video is massively helpful.
Got another hint that might help somebody out, I couldn’t remove the bolted in door stop part, the screws were totally seized and I needed to get the door closed for the MOT. Once the channel is fairly clean from debris, get a torch and look at the condition of the upper channel guide metal, to get the new roller in I found the worst part of the runner that had a folded edge where something had forced the metal out and made a slight lip, I worked out I needed a mm or two to get the new roller in so used the claw part of a hammer to lever it out just enough to slide it in, then used an old tyre lever with a flat end to carefully push the lip back in line. I wouldn’t want to do this more than a few times but it was a quick “work-around” and I am back on the road now. If your vans like mine there will be a few other wobbles in the runner which you will find when you try to close the door, these weren’t noticed previously as the bearings were cream-crackered. Hope this helps somebody! 👍
Good job. That little bump when you shut the door is nothing to be concerned about in my opinion. Its always good to watch something new being fitted and working well. :D
Just doing mine now as my middle bearing just fell off. Out of interest I have messed around with this door channel a few times and seemed to pick up some nasty skin irritation from all the crap and grease that’s built up in there over the years. Nice vid 👍
That gap is horrifically unloved on my van. I think when I tackle it will get pressure washed out, degreased totally and really really cleaned. Thanks for the guide.
I recently changed the carbon brushes in my mum's dishwasher even though I'm a chippy in the making, but I watched your vid dated 5th of August 2017 and it is making the same noise as the one in your vid but it's sparking a bit but nothing major, I was just wondering if it will be ok and won't self destruct or something. Keep up the good work by the way
I think you want me to validate what you have done, even though I know nothing about what you have done or how you have done it. I can't reassure you that a machine that is sparking is ok, it probably isn't. Maybe get someone who can see it to have a look at it. Or post a video of it and ask again?
Thanks for sharing this video, I have just recently purchased a T4 800 special 02 plate which has the same problem. Just ordered the new roller so will be doing this job on the weekend. Do you know much about the tailgate locking mechanism? Mine will only open from the inside and does not work from the outside.
Hi George, I have the double doors, so no tailgate, but nothing on this van is complicated. I have posted a video of the rear doors locking mechanism from when someone broke in to my van, so maybe that will help you. It is in my VW T4 playlist.

Great video, just bought a T4 yesterday and this is the first job that needs doing👍🏻
Have exactly the same problem on my T4. Just ordered the parts and look forward to having the door repaired within the next week. Thanks :)
Thanks for this. You made it look straightforward, so I had a go... and it was.

@@bootsowen: Wow. 18 years old. Well its in good nick for its age.:D
Thank you for documenting and posting this. I just went through the exact same operation on my 2001 T4 - and your video helped immensely.
Excellent, that's what it's all about!
Great vid thanks . New roller ordered for mine. Will be doing it when it arrives.
Good video.....my track needs cleaning.....Will be trying to do it soon...
Nice one! Feel more confident about doing mine this morning 👍🏻

Top stuff, very helpful, just purchased a 2000 T4 lwb, with all the same probs, thanks..
I have a vw t4 playlist that might help you out. Good luck!
Cheers for that. Gotta do this on my 2002 T4 and this was a great help. thanks.

Cleaning the track is necessary. Don't worry that it takes longer to video.
