What assassination? Yamamoto was a sailor. An enemy!
I believe Rex Barber's story on the events.
Japan failed to grasp how fast American tech was developing or how fast America could build and replace ships planes and even troops. Japan had no way to win the war. out manned gunned and out teched...
They were very aware of this. They were hoping to do enough damage fast enough to force peace talks
When almost everything you have was the result of gifts from your german allies in both wars and buying shiny new products without actually understanding them . There is a chapter where the mashing of various elements into naval ships made them floating trash piles. They felt beating a Russian fleet composed of hulks constantly stopping for repairs mid Ocean made them one of the major powers......
And most of the Japanese military knew this, but started the war anyhow. It is the claim (excuse?) that they assumed the US population would not stand for a war lasting more than 6 months or so, and would sue for peace if Japan could cause enough harm early on.
An extremely bad estimation, as any 1945 resident of major Japanese cities could testify.
@@maxstr VERY bad estimate, as any 1945 resident of a major Japanese city could testify.
Amazing they took on the Japanese fighters not the bombers.
America time? We got four time zones plus Hawaii.
They are lieutenants.....not left Tennant
