The photo cover shot on this upload, of an American bomber, had to have been taken on or after 1947 (WW2 ended on n 1945). The plane has the symbols “USAF” and “United States Air Force” on it. The U.S. Air Force was not established until September 18, 1947.

Shigeo Yamada, the US born survivor mentioned was interviewed in 1990 by the Los Angeles Times. He had actually been born in Idaho and graduated from high school in California before attending the University of Tokyo and being drafted. There were several Nisei who were in that operation so Hara may have gotten Yamada’s birthplace confused with another sailor’s.
