In this episode my brother drives me around the countryside looking at boats. None of which, really grab my attention or imagination to me foreseeing myself on any of them. I am sorry if this video is a little long, but is is cut down from over 3 hours of video. I wanted to keep enough content in it to show your what the interior of some boats out there for sale actually look like. Do no get fooled by the glossy images on the internet.
Hi Trever just watched this vlog them boats seem to need alot work , you did right but the boat you have now looks really nice, I have subscribed to your channel, and enjoying watching, keep well John.
I can't believe that your actually over there buying a boat. You must be on top of the world. I couldn't be happier for you. I'm looking forward to seeing your new boat.
Just saw your vlog today, am happy to subscribe - I long to live on a narrowboat but that's a pipe dream. I'm way over on the Canadian Pacific coast in Victoria BC. Looking forward to your vlogs.
Welcome aboard! Thank you for subscribing. I have been to Vancouver a few years ago, it was a flying visit, but very enjoyable, this was when I was living in the US. The part of the world you live in is not so shabby, actually it is very nice indeed. I took advantage of the property market getting to a point where I could sale my house in the US and move back to the UK and purchase a boat. It may not be the fanciest of boats on the canal, but it is large as narrowboats go, and I am loving every minute of the boat, and canal life.
Evening Trevor, I like you visited many a boat, great in camera but what a disappointment in reality, I was lucky enough to meet with a seasoned couple who were showing their daughters friend, around boats at Whilton Marina (both N/B's I had seen in mid 2019), both of us had keys for plenty of money drainers both in & out of our budget ranges, so i combined keys with them & toured around the marina with them and learnt what to look for & not look for. I stumbled on my boat 'Misty J' by chance after arriving at a different marina, to look at a different boat in length and price range! I'am now proud owner of Misty J, marina based due HGV licence and work but have no real regrets in moving onto Misty J, know there would be trials and tribulations (from other UA-cam channels) it's a very steep learning curve no matter what you think you know. Hope all goes well. 🙂🙂
Hi Vinny. I think I have lucked out to. After seeing so much crap for sale within my budget or even just over my budget I found a boat that not only met what I was looking for, but exceeded it.
Hi Trevor. Great vlog. Some interesting boats and colour schemes 🤣🤣😆 Reminds me of a boat my friend viewed. Another he quite liked and put an offer in, was so thin on the hull that the surveyor could move it with his finger. He didn't buy it thankfully. Some are overpriced and need thousands spent on them 🙄🙄🤣😊
Hey Trev saw you just now on TubeBuddy Live. Thought I would check out your channel. I like it! I live fairly close to a canal and love walking it. Keep up the good work m8. New sub.
Thank you I love walking as well. I actually walked along the river Nene in Wellingborough this morning. I will put it together as a video this week and hope to upload it over the weekend.
@@TrevsTravelsByNarrowboat yeah that would be awesome! you can get some stunning videos along rivers/canals. The hardest thing is trying to keep the camera steady whilst walking. If you checkout my video here: ua-cam.com/video/3YJu89VaBNc/v-deo.html This was filmed along the tring section of the canal. I will keep watching out for your new videos!
It is a case of picking and choosing the correct one for you. There is some dross on the market, but there are also some wonderful boats. Your budget has a big part to play.
I remember when we were viewing boats, it was a very emotional time with lots of highs and lows, and after all of the boats we viewed we chose the very first one that we had been on a month previous. Hope you're having a full survey carried out, expensive but could save you thousands in the long run.
I have seen a survey done just 9 months ago when the current owner bought the boat, and it had a complete new bottom 8mm plate less than 3 years ago, so I have perhaps been stupid but I have taken the risk.
This is the thing with brokerage, the condition boats are left in is entirely down to the owner/seller.. nothing can be done to the boats without the seller asking and paying for works to be sorted.. and in my experience the owner/seller has no interest in making things presentable, they just drop it off and expect it to be sold
I will do the tour of my new boat when it is officially mine and paperwork has exchanged. The current owner was still living on it when I viewed it, and did not take any pictures.
Good boats sell in days, any boat that hangs around for months is either a wreck or overpriced or both. I cannot believe how dirtý some of the boats on brokerage are, surely a good clean would add value. Good luck with your search.
I think you are completely correct... A little clean would at least hold a little interest when looking. Filthy, smelly untidy boats lose ones interest before starting. Good points might be overlooked by the fact one wants to get off the boat ASAP.
Bought ours, 70’ cruiser, remotely, it came out all good in the full survey. However the interior was worse than a seagull’s behind. The most hideous wall paper, and the lady owner left it filthy- foam nerf darts were in everything. So, after finding the right chap- our it ALL came- right down to the metal. The job is still ongoing. Would I do it again, unlikely. A lot of stress. Fortunately our gamble paid off.
I did view mine first, and after looking at so much junk in my price range this one was a palace after the others. I was able to move straight on, even if there are a few things I am going to change, that is more down to my personal choice rather than necessity.
Hi Guy's I just came across the message you sent me a while ago, none of us expected not to be cruising in this beautiful weather we have been getting.
While you were looking about the boat...How about giving a look at the Bilge ..what about leaking? All wooden boats leak some more than others. Living with mildew makes interiors of these boat must need Demidifier? Huh?
It is not a wooden boat, It is a steel boat, and the bilge is good. There is no mildew in the boat, I have check it from end to end, whilst cleaning it. To be on the safe side I also cleaned with a cleaning agent containing bleach, to help prevent mildew ever forming.
Yes they were. I actually cut out a lot of the video I took due to the not so nice comments my brother and I made about them. Do not want to get sued for telling the truth. I let the pictures tell the story.
Trev's Travels By Narrowboat hi Trevor yea just been watching that well just started it the one u bought did it have a recent survey etc ....I can’t believe that the marina didn’t get the boats spuced up a bit to make em a little mor presentable lol.. I suppose u get wat u pay for 30 k obviously doesn’t get a lot of bells and whistles
Some needed more than cleaning. Actually catching fire would have done some of them a favour lol. I actually paid less for the boat I bought than what the asking price was on most of these.

hi
Thanks!
Thank you very much Willie

Thaks John.
Thanks Kev. A good look around boats and what not to buy. Your one looks fab.
I think I got a good deal
I can't believe that your actually over there buying a boat. You must be on top of the world. I couldn't be happier for you. I'm looking forward to seeing your new boat.
Thank you Dean. It has been a long path, but I have got here in the end.

Just found your channel and subscribed... Best of luck to you with your new life afloat... You will love it...🍷🍷
Thank you
I recognised those marinas from my boat hunting.
Some of those tired narrowboats you showed need a good £10k to make them liveable.
David.
Yes they do. The purple one probably would need £20000.00
Reminds me of when we got ours seeing Whilton and the trains!! You'll find one that you like i'm sure!
The red boat at the start of the video, I have put a deposit on. You are correct, Wilton marina was the first place I looked.
Yeuch, need to wash my hands after watching that. Glad that was you and not me Trev, lol.
Definitely some boats I would not recommend to anyone. I was amazed how much money people think they will get for a pile of scrap metal.
Very muddy. Still at least it was mud, and not the other stuff.

Oh.
If that's the reality when it comes to narrow boats, I'm a little off put!
That being said.... thank you for showing this 👍

Jimi Hendrix inspired who ever decorated that purple boat to much Acid bk in the day 🤪🙂🌸🕉☯️🎸✌️NICE ONE TREV
Not only was it purple it was rotting away. I dare not open the side hatch for fear it would fall apart in my hand.
I loved it! Such a shame it was disintegrating!!!

Yes it is quite amazing that people think things will sell looking like a pile of poo.
Would like tour of interior 😉

TRAAAAIIIIN!!!! Nice Floyd shirt Trev. :) How long before you're cruising?
One of my favourite bands
Having a nightmare getting my money from the USA as soon as that clears I'll be cruising
I had to comment about the trains of course, I think that is a narrowboating thing now.

Thank you. I bought a boat shortly after making this video. I have now been happily living on "Albertine" for over a year.
You are watching some old videos Willie
Some of those boats looked horrendous tbh!
Yes they were. I actually cut out a lot of the video I took due to the not so nice comments my brother and I made about them. Do not want to get sued for telling the truth. I let the pictures tell the story.
fish eye camera made me feel queasy!
Hi Trevor these boats looked c..p mate I may look on eBay
Haha funny you should say that, I bought my boat from ebay. It is in a couple of blogs time
Trev's Travels By Narrowboat hi Trevor yea just been watching that well just started it the one u bought did it have a recent survey etc ....I can’t believe that the marina didn’t get the boats spuced up a bit to make em a little mor presentable lol.. Look like they needed a good cleaning not for me 🤣🤣
Some needed more than cleaning. Actually catching fire would have done some of them a favour lol. I actually paid less for the boat I bought than what the asking price was on most of these.
The ones I like Trev 😊 are a lot of money my be one day 👍the boat you have is nice and big all you need is your washing machine 😉 that care 😎🍷
this lot all looked like project boats, can never understand how some owners make such a poor presentation when trying to sell.
They also were asking top prices
