I'm convinced it's easier to fit an MX5 into a Viper V10 than a Viper V10 into an MX5
Sure. Therefore they won't do Viper. It's gonna be German, cause they cheap and 5.0 not 8.0. Question is, is it gonna be from BMW E60, VW Phaeton or some Audi.
@@Szydelski it's going to get the 2.0 liter Connaught V10 like mentioned in previous videos
A viper v10 isn't that bad since they're a pushrod motor. The heads are smaller making them not as wide. Narrower bank angle from its V8 roots helps too.
@@kaposvaribando1277 Of course it's gonna get Connaught V10, but did not pay attention. They are building two V10 MX-5s. One with Connaught's, another with yet to be unveiled V10.
@@kaposvaribando1277They will use the Connaught V10/VR10, but as Mike said in his previous video there will be a second V10 MX-5 (possibly powered by a German V10) accompanying the Connaught MX-5.
V10 diesel, watch that chassis twist 😂
Shassy
Tchassey
Scheisse.
chasiy
Yees but disel v10
Would love to see an LFA V10 in there, but reckon it'll be the M5 V10 that ends up going in though!
Where on earth would you sourced an LFA V10 lol
@@janson2911 crashed one. we can arrange that right? 😆
I wonder if it would be easier to get an old F1 V10 engine or the LFA V10
@@janson2911actually Lexus sells crate engines to lfa owners so...
This has been such a long time coming. I am looking forward to finally seeing this come to fruition after a number of years of watching this project unfold.
Welcome to custom building car projects...
That V10 TDI would be amazing tons of torque and turbo noises everywhere
Main issue would be that it will disrupt the balance of the car.
@@MyHandleIsGood pretty sure all the conventional V10 options would disrupt the balance of the car. Only the 2L V10 could have any chance of keeping balance
@@thembanimdlalose5229 True.... However, the V10 TDi would be an exceptionably bad choice due to the weight of the engine. It almost weighs more than the car it's potentially going into......lol
@@ShonnDayleeand it had cooling issues even tho the Touareg had much bigger engine bay
@@thembanimdlalose5229 In the State's people have been putting Chevy LS3s in MX5s for years. Admittedly not as heavy as the TDi but not far away! They also fit quite well with little fettling!
Imagine fitting a Judd V10 into this thing and subsequently turning into an all-out hill climb monster!
A V10 in a MX-5 Miata? Interesting idea! Can’t wait to see how this turns out!
Pure insanity. This is going to be fun✨️😁
Power to weight ratio is gonna be nice to see. 👍
It will never happen
The 2.0 engine isn’t going to be some insane power engine. It’ll be more about the novelty and exhaust sound than actual power.
If they were chasing power it’d be way easier to just stick a V8 and a couple of turbos in it.
Touraeg V10 underrated
Can't wait for that narrow V10! TBH both these V10's will be awesome!
Totally get the “teasing” but MAN do i wanna see more vids on this car. Been so long.
Also if yall actually got a judd v10, that’d be lary as sin
I LOVE the music selection you guys put in your videos. So excellent. Thank you!
The music in this video was probably the best yet, so ridiculously unnecessarily dramatic :D Loved it!
Could we please get Misha to rip the Connaught V10 around the ring when that's finished? Would be mad to compare bridge to gantry times with it vs a Stock Mk2
A small Judd V10 would be a solid choice imo
Not street friendly or affordable by any means
@@titaniumoverdrive259 Nor are they particularly small!
Would love to see a Judd But Cant see you getting much change under 100k by the time you got the dry sump system motec and other bits ! Even if they sound amazing !
Ryan Turks Supra Is Audio Porn !!!!!
Hammond and May mite keep Mike in Job but there not going drop that kind money on his toys !!! It be BMW V10 just for budget reasons
Yeah me too but they are very expensive and very finicky just look at tuerks efforts
100%
A V10 TDI MX 5 NA would be the thing 👍🏼
And just as nose heavy as a normal Audi
TDI=Turbo diesel injection
NA=naturally aspirated
Think about that for a second
@@slartibartfast2649 NA is a mark one MX-5
NB is a mark two MX-5
Think about that...
@@slartibartfast2649Tdi does not mean turbo diesel injection.
Turbocharged direct injection actually
Na is the chassis designation for a gen 1 mx-5.
@@slartibartfast2649what if you used 100% of your brain?
I personally would love to see the Viper V10, but I know that probably would be harder than the others. I’d be happy to see any of those installed.
I also want to see the Viper SRT10 dropped in their, but I'm not sure that a Miata (Mx-5) could handle such girth inside of her. My realistic bet is the Audi v10
Hear, hear. Although knowing drive tribe it's likely a BMW engine but as a surprising twist viper is also in the cards
yeah the viper v10 is massive @@notthatfriendly596
How hard can that be, I've seen some bloke putting it into a bike, in his shed
@@igornoga5362that would be Allen Millyard.
VERY cool! glad to see this moving forward!
I think it will be a judd v10 based on the previous videos with drivetribe.
would love to see the Audi v10
but I think your going the BMW route
Can’t wait to see more of this car!
Also nice TJ Hunt cameo. The LS swap Miata they built looks scarily fun
Imagine a LFA or formula 1 v10 in that mx5
A renault v10, imagine that 😂 20,500 rpm in an mx5
@@TheCommentator353 yeh
YEEEEEEEEEESSS absolute favorite series of yours;)))
Such a cool project. Coming to you're event at haynes and really looking forward to it
been waiting ages for the next video for this. really look forward to this being completed
Don’t forget the 6.8L Ford Modular V10 😅 Surely there’s a Caravan over there with one in it.
I'm glad I didn't decide to hold my breath till this project is finished.
The V10 TDI. Definitely.
Mike, thanks so much for the VR 10 - Verkürzt Reihen - V10 series engine. That's quite an engine.
Would love to see the Viper 8.3l V10 but I think the BMW or TDI would fit better
Viper engine is likely so heavy the rear wheels wouldn't be in contact with the ground to drive the car forward
Actually it’s a very light engine with a low cog.
@@richardharrold9736wrong. Its aluminum
@@richardharrold9736 wrong. Its cast in aluminum with iron sleeves. Google is your friend here
The removal of the engine was some amazing filming.
Good job cameraman
I'm still in love with small blocks so waiting for the 2.0liter V10 with love!
The project lives!
I learned to fix cars when I owned a Triumph Spitfire MkII after owning an 74 MGB with the big rubber baby buggy bumpers. There was always short length of rubber tubing the the trunk and tool box, so I could balance the carbs. I owned a total of 6 MX5 between 1999 and 2012, couple of barn doors and NB's, now a days I drive a 6speed GLI.
Triton would be fun, period correct, too. And it's a good middle ground between V10 sizes at 6.8L as well.
Been waiting for this! 🎉
That's gonna be badass!!
Nice vid. Now I want to see those Mk2 MR2’s!
An Audi v10 would be absolutely insane
I'm fairly certain it's going to be the M5 V10 because they're cheap to source though they obviously come with issues. Will be fun to see either way.
This is the best kind of madness. 😆
Epic soundtrack for epic plans. Mmm power.
I'd put at least a half cage in both cars. A proper roll hoop with bars to the rear deck, and door bars. Not those poxy chrome roll hoops.
I've been doing gravel autosolos in a Mk1 MX5 for a few years, and a couple of years ago two old boys in a Mk1 MX5 hit a large chunk of Wales and stood their car on its rear bumper and turned it over. It came down on its lid and pancaked the windscreen frame. It had a hard top on it but no roll bar/cage.
When we got to the car it was resting on the tops of the doors.
Cue North Wales Air Ambulance. The passenger left a chunk of his scalp and hair on the inside on the hardtop, and whilst we waited for the Emergency services to arrive he grew an orange-sized haematoma on the top of his head.
The dtiver was walking wounded and spent a while picking glass out of his scalp. He had the foresight to duck when the car went over.
We honestly though that when we righted the car we'd be dragging out two bodies.
The incident was investigated by MSUK and we changed the rules to insist that any soft top car had to have at least a proper roll bar. Every MX5, mine included, now sports one.
The idea that the windscreen frame in a converible is strong enough to support the weight of the car is bollocks.
I had to recover the rolled MX5 and cut my fingers to shreds on the remains of the windscreen, as the steering wheel was poking out above where the windscreen frame should have been.
Amazingly it started up and ran, but it was very, very bent - the passenger front corner was crushed and the wheel wouldn't turn, but we managed to monster it onto a trailer to be taken home and broken for parts.
Safety first boys & girls.
The most dramatic engine lift.....(Clarksons voice)...in the world.
Will be interesting if any V10 can fit in the little Mazda AND not be too front heavy 😉
Viper V10 with some turbo's, turbocharger and NOS :p
I was pretty positive as soon as you brought up that second V10 it would be the Audi 5.2. The BMW motor.would be too $$$, the viper V10 is just ridiculously huge. And the Diesel VW one is just weird in a Miata lol. But that Audi motor is a good pick so I really think that will be it!
Can’t wait.
YEEEESSSSSSS ITS FINALLY HERE
Please ask Allan Millyard to bolt together two and a half motorcycle engines for the MX 5. That would be so awesome!
I think the Viper V10 would be an intense challenge, but also the coolest by far. The Audi V10 is the most realistic.
Good lord the idea of a Viper powered MX5 first run turn it into a twisler 🙂
Beauty!
Great editing and music choice DriveTribe team, brilliant to watch
Is there a list of music credits anywhere? Please?
Have you considered 5 Ducati L twins?
Bring it on
TY 🙏🙏
I'm not stopping until we get a JUDD V10 into an MX5
While the Touareg / Phaeton V10 TDI engine would be an interesting swap, I think the engine and 6 speed auto weigh about the same as the mx-5 rolling shell. So with this in mind, I think the more likely V10 you guys would use is the Audi / Lamborghini V10
I would love to see the 5.0 litre V10 from the gen 1 Gallardo, that would be brilliant in an MX5!
The viper V10 might be the biggest engine out there. 8.4L will definitely very difficult to fit! Why not the Ford 6.8L Triton engine? Mazda and Ford have some history!
The Ford 6.8 is significantly taller and wider than the Viper's V10. Pushrod engines are far smaller and lighter than their displacement would suggest.
Gotta be the viper V10!!
Would love to see a Lexus 4.8L 1LR-GUE go in!!!
Judd V10.
Vw V10 diesel, something different
The viper as it just suits the car my opinion
PLEASE!!! PLEASE!!! PLEASE!!! Do the Viper V10 and then buy a Mini Viper body kit for it!!! It would be so adorable yet scary!
Ford 4lt 6cyl Barra is the 🇦🇺King of MX5 engines
I hope for the Audi V10 as the diesel and Viper V10s are very heavy.
V10 diesel mx5 would be mental
need to start MX5 project 3, an MRX5 with a 4 rotor :)
If it was possible to put the LFA's V10 in, I would go with that. If not, BMW would probably be the safest option.
V10 TDI would be incredible.
No way it's the BMW V-10, that had so MANY issues. My bet is on the Audi V-10. I'd put the Viper V-10 as second choice because UA-cam and if something is worth doing it's worth overdoing. And that V-10 is so easy and economical (as V-10s go) to maintain.
The gran tourismo music is a nice touch lol
S85 mx5 would be glorious
BMW V10 FTW!!
A friend of mine used to have a VW LT45 van and he needed to rebuild the engine.
Where did he do the work on the engine?
In the obvious place, the living room in his flat. 😆
I know you won't but I sooooo want to see the oil burner under the bonnet. Mad, stupid idea and I love it
You teased a Judd V10.
This entire malarkey could have been finished if they just swapped in a BMW V10 in the first place.
That being said, a viper V10 in a Miata is going to be absolute Nutter!
That 8.3 liter Viper V10 is looooooooong. You're either getting engine in the cabin, or you're going to hang half that engine IN FRONT of the front axel. That's going to do wonders for handling.
The Viber engine would be awesome, but i think you go with the 5.0 L. From BMW 👍💪
Waiting for the mass production of this engine to be made.
As much as I love the Viper, I'd rather see something else. A diesel would be sick, rolling coal while spanking fancier cars - sounds like a sweet sleeper ;)
gotta have the diesel V10, tho that being said, I believe that someone already put a viper V10 in to an S2000? maybe they can be reached out to and asked about it.
My bet is on the Cosworth 3.0 V10 Formula 1 engine (Jag F1 team used it in early 2000's)
I'll suggest the Viper engine. Great video!
@@richardharrold9736 As they said, they can cut parts of panels out to fit the engine, and, as they said, someone even stuffed a big V12 in a Miata, so it's possible.
Mat Armstrong does more in one video than you do in four!
I love to see these miata projects being made, i would really love something like nightride's 1uz v8 miata, but here in Italy if you swap the engine you're treated like the worst of criminals by the pi...ahem cops :)
The most appropriate V10 for that car would be an LFA V10.
Viper V10 but the Ford Triton V10 would be intriguing.
The judd V10 is the one but it's silly money (probably best part 100k with all the bits as there dry sump) !!! Sounds amazing like 80's F1 car (and Turk already done it in supra )
but you know it's gonna be M5 v8 as drivetribe got tame BMW teck and their prob cheaper than out else !!!
Mind says 5.2. Heart says TDI 😂
V10 diesel mx5. Yes!!!!!!
Closed off with sausages. Got to be the migthy S85
Viper. Absolutely. Little baby Viper like we all feel an mx5 can be.
The diesel would be sick
LS. Cummins. 1GZ. The Miata had been the body for multiple hearts. For one, I’m happy this time it’s receiving a transplant of not just a one-off prototype engine, but also one that would barely disturb its legendary handling mechanics. You’re doing justice to the Miata’s spirit well, and that’s fantastic. This is definitely gonna sound and drive sweet.
1GZ? That motor makes no power at all
If your serious about it you get a Mercedes M120 DOHC V12
@@titaniumoverdrive259Where it lacked the power, it had the peak torque at just 2000 RPM. Perfect for a Rolls-Royce competitor it was built for. Place the same powertrain inside a Miata and it would be just as crazy, if not more and perfectly encapsulates Carroll Shelby’s principle of putting the largest engines they have into the smallest car they could get.
I recon they've gone for the BMW V10 or the Viper, witch would be my choice. I think Those would be obvious, because who would want a diesel, Audi V10 perhaps. I think BMW or Viper, because their cheap and easier to find.
Bmw V10 would sound amazing . I had a M6 V10 . Amazing engine . Bad gearbox
S85 👌🏼
I would like to see that vw v10tdi in that Amarok
