The last few episodes of season 1 and the first few of season 2 were the peak of BSG in my opinion. It was still good afterwards, but never again quite as supremely awesome as during these few episodes.

@@williammitchell4417 Yeah, it was so loaded with action. Chief Tyrol and the crew stranded on Kobol and under siege by Cylons, the fleet scattered and Tigh desperately trying to find the defenseless civilian ships, while Starbuck and Helo are roaming the ruins of Caprica, always careful to avoid a Cylon ambush. Had me on the edge of my seat the whole time.

@@antred11 Granted that took some time and some very hard work, I really liked how in the end it worked out. Bill Adama had a courageous return. Saul was able to work with those on the ground. Baltar the coward makes his "exit stage right" bit. I wish guys like Ron weren't up to their eyeballs to write Picard. Terry might be a good showrunner. But he couldn't write his self out of a wet paper bag!!

Season 1 in its entirety was mindblowing. It was the best written season, I haven't felt that much suspense since Star Wars Episode V. And the moral dilemmas the characters faced were realistic and heavy. People died no matter what they chose. After the light adventurous nature of Stargate this more mature sci-fi story was exactly what we were missing.
Later seasons got weird and felt directionless with episodes focusing on societal commentary (for example the chick that wanted to be a Viper pilot - let her be but that isn't worth an entire episode). As someone from a postsoviet country I recognized New Caprica as a quite forced metaphor for the happenings in the Eastern Block countries but that didn't make sense: the Cylons want to exterminate the human race, they don't want to simply rule over them. And the writers didn't know what to do with Lee anymore so they made him a lawyer. The demise of the Pegasus felt like lazy writing and so did Lee's character "development".

Pretty good argument for that, though there are a few utterly brilliant episodes outside those bounds ( "33," "Scar," "Maelstrom," "Revelations," "The Oath/Blood on the Scales").

Can't love this enough. 20 years??? I was a different person in a different place. But this stays the pinnacle of entertainment.

Haha, good catch. Either they screwed up, or Colonials don't split up a full circle in 360 parts like we do. Maybe they use 720° for a full circle or whatever.
