Being a female of color this hits hard. I'm puerto Rican and my hair was damaged and it took me 7-8 years to make it good enough that it could be considered natural. I always wanted devacurl but could never afford it. If my hair had suffered the way you ladies have I would be curled up in a ball crying my life away. Our hair is already a topic of too kinky, too curly, to nappy. We're raised that relaxers are what we need to look pretty. Breaking out of that cycle to finally love your hair and then this crap happens? It's not right. I'm sorry you're going through this. My heart goes out to you.
Maria N ugh I’m glad you didn’t use it! I used it on my daughters hair thinking I was using the best products and for a while I wasn’t sure what was happening to her hair but it thinner out like crazy and is now SUPER uneven everywhere! So I have to cut most of her hair to even it back out. Ugh so disappointing 😔 and all the money spent thinking you’re taking good care of your hair 😢
If Devacurl isn't pulling their products then it's up to us. My suggestion is exposing the batch code numbers off our current bottles that might be causing the damages
Hair is so important to all women, whether it be short or long, straight or curly, it is the centre of our beauty, and a great contributor to our confidence. It’s so sad that this is happening. I’m glad I never used it.
I started using devacurl about 7 weeks ago (the week of Christmas) and my long waist length hair was FRIED. It was so damaged and matted that I could not even brush it. This past sunday, 2 days ago, I had to go to a hair salon by my house where the stylist could also not brush my hair. She had to cut my hair up to my collar bone. I wished I never bought it! Before that my hair was the healthiest its been in my life and I have been natural for 7 years. My hair is 100% virgin, it never has had heat and never has been dyed. It looks better now that I cut it off but my curl pattern is still really loose and yesterday at work a huge ball of hair just sitting on my sweater!
kitkat that’s so crazy i’m sorry that happened to you! i’ve always wanted to try deva curl but it was always too expensive so i never used it thankfully but my moms friend who had curly/coily hair has been using it for a while and she was showing me her hair and it was literally falling out. she had bald spots, her hair looked dry and it looked like the products permed her hair. her hair used to be coily and now they’re waves, i feel so bad for her cause she was finally getting her hair back to being healthy
Hearing stories from people who very recently started using DevaCurl and suddenly began having major hair issues is further strong evidence that the ingredients in these products are trash. I'm so sorry this happened to you! If you haven't tried it already, maybe a really good hair detox will help it to repair and heal.
It only takes a few ambers to start a wildfire... I think it's a good thing that it's being talked about, because it's a real health issue. If the problem was just that it damaged and dried the hair, that's still sad but it's not too concerning. But here it actually affecting people's skin, causing hair loss, even scabbing on the scalp for people with more sensitive skin, that is SERIOUS. It also shows major companies the other side of the coin when it comes to social media influence. These big popular brands have made billions of dollars by paying people on the internet to say good things about their products. But this movement is demonstrating how those same influencers can destroy those business by simply voicing out loud the concerns of their community, and even reaching out to a larger audience
This is so crazy i remember the early days of UA-cam when this product was a MUST have! I never used it because i refused to pay that price plus i have 4c hair so i didn't think it would work for me anyways 🤷🏾♀️ i feel so bad for those that this has hurt.
@@KamrinWhite i hope that you can find something that will revitalize your hair! And hopefully you and the others harmed by this will get the compensation you all deserve! ❤
I used deva curl for a month and I experienced a whole lot of hair loss. I use drug store products before and never had that much loss!! I never used DC religiously but it almost messed up my hair
This is why I only try one new product at a time so the second I notice a change in my skin or hair I know exactly what it is. I'm sorry you were affected by this :( I really ppl would stop making excuses for devacurl this is completely ridiculous the proof is all the pics and videos of ppls hair being absolutely destroyed.
I believe I am also a victim of this too!! And you hit the nail on the head!! I had NO IDEA that it was DevaCurl that caused my thinness!!😩 I blamed mine on hormones and having children😔
Same! I blamed it on the dry winter, getting older, my straightener being old and pulling my hair... which wouldn't make sense because I was barely ever straightening it. I could sometimes get to 4 days before washing, now 1 or 2. But at the same time I don't want to wash it that much, especially now 😔
I hope everyone sees my comment, I believe they put some kind of relaxer in the products but won’t say it. Please everybody don’t throw the products away, keep them they could be used for testing !
Keisha SevenHandKnits I don’t know if it is that simple... if there is indeed some type of relaxer in it that would totally explain the loose curls, the scalp burning/itching/irritation, the bald spots etc.... I don’t know how one recover from that
I’m so glad I’m too cheap for this . It took FOREVER to grow out my natural hair . Aprox 7 years . I can’t imagine how devastating it is for those affected . I would be so so sad . It really takes a long time to achieve LONG virgin curls .
Yeah. Sounds like they put reallllllly mild relaxer or the stuff they put in kids texturizer...yeah this is crazy. Start scrubbing your scalp, oiling your scalp with hemp oil or pure olive oil to get your hair back
been using devacurl on and off for 3 years, my once 3b hair is now 2c. it looks like i took a straightener to my dry hair. i have no more self confidence because of DC.
@Autumm Dethlefs It's traumatic to have hair damage. Cut if off and start over again. I've only used Creme of Nature products and twist outs. Your hair will flourish again.
@@anonymousgirl799 For some people it effected their scalp and how their hair grows because of the chemical damage. If you have seen Ayesha Malik's videos yet, her scalp was damaged and her hair is growing wirey and grey
Olaplex 3 really helped my hair cuticle smooth down, and brought back my tight curls that were looking broken and fried all along the hairline. I've only done one treatment so far on Sunday, but my curls have held up since. This is the longest I've been able to go without losing all definition and having to redo my hair (well, since before I used devacurl).
Jessica Conde: When I had tried using olaplex earlier this year, it made my hair feel hard and brittle, and break a bit...but my hair wasn't damaged at the time, and I had left some in instead of washing it out properly. This time, I followed instructions, and my damaged hair bounced back. Hair that was breaking and had looked like I used a flat iron with no heat protectant, formed a curl pattern again.
You’re so beautiful 🥺💝💕 I just saved enough money to buy full size bottles and a full line - shampoo, conditioner, styler, gel, deep condition. I was literally about to go buy them and then these videos started popping up. I hope your curls heal and pop back to life.
I really hate that this has happened to so many people. My question is, why did it take this big controversy to make so many finally come forward? Was it that no one realized it until everything came out from others? It's so heartbreaking.
Dar Hendricks yes ! I think no one was putting two and two together. It was being attributed to other things bc ur not assuming it’s going to be deva curl. Seems almost impossible
I also read some bad things about Carols Daughter causing similar issues. And remember WEN?? Same. Tbh Ill stick with older formulas that have been around a long time. Sometimes the trendy stuff ends up having big problems.
I have been experiencing the same thing. My scalp is been so itchy and flaky to the point where I scratch it all night. I thought It was something I was doing. My curls barely last a day now. I've been using nothing but Deva curl for the last 3-4 years....
I noticed devacurl caused me hair fall after the 4th use. I literally thought it was because my hair is sensitive to protein. I never thought it was beyond that. I feel so fortunate that I stopped using deva right away.
I have similar hair to yours and Devacurl did me the same. Dry, brittle hair that wouldn't hold moisture. That photo you showed of your wet, tangled, "rat's nest" hair looked exactly like the photo I took of mine while it was soaking wet. That's how I realized something was very wrong. My hair was so big, frizzy and tangled while wet when it had always been so loose and easy to fingercomb when wet. I have been cutting it off over the last year. But have used Devacurl at least a couple times in that year cause I didn't know that was the culprit!! So my hair is still not the way it used to be. Porosity is higher and I have to load it with moisture to avoid dryness. It's so unfair. Devacurl needs to recall their products.
Girl sounds exactly like mine ! My hair is so porous even when I step outside in the tiniest bit of humidity it sucks it all up and shrinks my hair. It’s horrible
This sounds like what happened to me. But I’ve gotten highlights done twice now. I only used it for 3 or so weeks and I could tell something was up. My head was super itchy, my hair got way more knotted, my curls looked different and flatter.
Everyone is talking about this which I’m so happy the message is getting out BUT can we talk about what products y’all are using instead/to repair the damage bc a girl is struggling 😭
I used the deva curl gel off and on for about 2 years, mainly on the ends and towards the front of my hair (so the pieces i left out of my ponytail would be curly) and i used the One Condition decadence every time i would do my hair myself. My hair is so much drier, much straighter in some places, and so much more frizzy as well as being much thinner and breaking off especially towards the front.
I definitely feel for all the women experiencing this, no one should go through this. You’re a beautiful woman, I think you would look stunning with short curly cut 🥰. I wish you a healthy and prosperous recovery with your hair Queen 🙏🏽 thank you for sharing
I’ve been natural for 8 years. When I was 3yrs in, I went to the Devacurl salon in NYC to get some highlights. My hair looked good the day I left the salon after that my hair was super frizzy and dry. I had to keep in protective styles and cut my ends regularly until I was able to get rid of the color. Back then I realized that their product was not good. I feel that I had always been bad, it is just that people are speaking about it now! Thanks for sharing!
What's weird to me is the things that people are saying that Deva is doing to their hair, only BLEACHING the hair can do! Think about it. Hair breakage, thinning, tangling, frizz, losing curl pattern, actual lightening of the hair, and on the scalp: lesions, scabs, inflammation. I have heard about dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis but I've never heard of bleaching causing those issues but who really knows for sure. I just wonder if and this is just a theory, if some chemical reaction caused a form of bleaching to happen when applied? So when some of these women left these products longer than others their symptoms were worse than some. Who knows 🤷🏻♀️.
I think she was bleaching her hair long before use of the Deva Curl experience with no issues so perhaps Deva Curl products not compatible with use on color processed hair?
@@tovareardon4541 Do they though? I havent heard that yet? I mean I dont doubt it. Formaldehyde is used in alot of cosmetics. I just havent heard of it being in Deva products.
@@DH-dt2hk Even if that is the case, those products shouldnt interfere with her lightening process. If that were the case they should warn people of that. So many people lighten their hair and on a regular basis. Deva Curl being a hair care company is more than aware of this.
Girl I swearrrr by doing olaplex or ANY kind of ph bonding treatments for that matter will be a God send! I had a same experience as you expect mine was color damage. And doing olaplex treatments brought my curls back to life! Also there is a brand called AG that has a curl thrive shampoo and conditioner it has super foods and protein in the formula so it’s amazing on your hair! And smells so good! Good luck gal! 💕
The thing is I noticed a difference in using it and stop using it about year or two ago. I was very aware of it because I’m a hairstylist and I’m very picky about what I put in my hair. But I used to use diva curl religiously and then I just stopped working. Something happened to the formulation of the product I don’t know what but it changed. Somewhere in the changing of ownership something happened with the product. I am really thankful Because if I would’ve continued using the products and had hair loss or hair damage.... I would’ve wanted to find someway. Especially since I already have genetic alopecia I don’t need anything else happening to thin my hair. And I’ve already cut my hair short twice because of damage I don’t need to do that again.
My hair stylist told me she noticed an ingredient shared with body hair removal creams. When her students asked about this at their advanced Deva training, they (basically) refused to reply.
(Lucy’s beauty channel 2020)My wife lost so much hair through the whole year and she just found out about this , she started crying . She tried a different cheap shampoo and conditioner same day and the results were chocking . Her hair is her crown ! Know her history Lucy’s beauty channel 2020 So expensive products, we definitely have to do something about all that lost hair
This was a lovely video. I'm so sorry that your hair has been damaged, but thank you for sharing your experience with the rest of us who were impacted by DevaCurl products in a negative way.
Thank you for this video! You are so right about people not even considering DevaCurl might be the problem. I realized DevaCurl was the culprit behind my hair loss a few months ago thanks to CurlNinja's videos. Thankfully I caught it before my hair was damaged beyond repair but even now I am still coming to realize just how much DevaCurl messed up my hair. At first I thought it was just hair loss. I now realize that I also had some of the other issues (breakage and loss of definition) in my crown area. When all this first happened, I thought maybe I would one day go back to DevaCurl once they addressed the issue because I was CERTAIN they would (I have been using these products on and off for over a decade and really believed in the brand) but their response has been so infuriating, I will NEVER again support this company.
OMG, I've watched so many videos involving the deva curl scandal and I had yet to see someone with same damage that I had after using. Unfortunately for me, I used the products for about 4-5 months while I was transitioning, so when the damage was happening I couldn't really tell because I was new to curly girl method. But I experienced the same thinning and breakage especially in the back parts of my hair (which sadly for me takes the longest to grow back)... From my personal standpoint, I think there is a chemical that when it reacts with warm water acts like a perm/relaxer which is causing people to loose their patterns, have itchy/dry scalps, lots of fall out/breakage, and difficulties detangling (which are all things I experienced when using Deva Curl)...Great video, thank you for sharing your story!
I have used it twice. The first time was the lo poo and conditioner and wave maker and gel. I noticed my hair was dry. I have the wave make and gel in my hair now and it is soft. I think its the shampoo and conditioner
Had a bald spot that came and grew since July 2019; my hair refused to coil or hold moisture last year; started using Melt into Moisture Mar 2019; i thought it was stress or deficiency... then when i realize texture change is from the root and not the end and saw the DC videos it all clicked.
I hope everyone affected is generously compensated. I can't imagine how horrible it would be to experience this as a fellow curly. Like others I could not afford devacurl but I then began splashing out on bounce curl and other expensive products so this could have been me. This could have been my story. My heart goes out to you and other curlies. I can't even describe the emotion behind this, so scary and no one deserves to trust a product and be decieved like this. SHAME ON DEVACURL!!
You’re gorgeous! I hope that you eventually find a better line and regimen for your curly hair. I think it’s horrible what you have went through. You deserve to have thriving healthy hair too. I tried DevaCurl once and was highly disappointed in the past. I hope DevaCurl takes their products off the shelves. 💙
I used deva curl a year ago once. The B leave in. Next day I had dandruff and i literally tossed the product out in the trash. I feel so bad for all those affected.
Also, to all the "victims" that don't have any chemical dyes or bleach in their hair, natural henna might do wonders. There is even neutral (aka colorless) henna if you don't want copper or Auburn tones in your hair. It helps re-seal the hair scales and forms a protective layer on every individual stand of hair. It is also very relieving for itchy scalps. Just make sure you wait at least 8 weeks after a chemical dye, and warn your hair dresser before getting any color, because the hair can turn green or break off when mixed with chemicals.
@@Palmundo91 I've been doing it for 7 years, barely use any product on my hair apart from the occasional hair mask or detangling spray, only have 2 trims a year and below-the-waist-length hair and I have had compliment from multiple hair dressers and stylists that confirmed that it is good for the hair and helps protect it. I can keep an open mind, but you'd have to give me a little more arguments. And visibly, it can't be worse than Deva curl right now...
Henna is excellent for the hair. It's inexpensive, a natural conditioner, and leaves hair in perfect condition. The only downside is that it's very messy and stains the bathtub.
I never watched your videos before, I have straight hair, and I never used Devacurl. I feel so much sympathy for you, I’m so glad you realized what the problem was. I hope your hair becomes better than normal, I would be lying if I said I didn’t want your natural hair. It’s so gorgeous, I wish you all the best. Even if you never see this comment ❤️
None of this clicked to me until right now. So glad I found your video. This is why my hair fell out!!!! OMG! I’ve beeen natural my whole life and always known how to manage my hair but I started going to a new salon last March and they use DevaCurl products and my hair has slowly fallen out and thinned and gotten hard frizzy and awful. I’m nearly bald (exaggeration but my hair is sooooo thin) and I’m so stressed and it has to be this stuff. So mad.
devacurl visited my school (i go to cosmetology school) in i believe september & they gave me sample products. i used it twice on my hair and hated how my hair felt so i threw them out. i’m so happy i didn’t continue with them
Girl I’m with you 100% I made a video on it too I had been using deva for a year Brit clicked! You hit the nail on the head with “ your not thinking it could be devacurl “ I didn’t realize it till glambell talked about it and linked stephenie mero 4 weeks off deva seeing some improvements but it’s still so damaged 😭
Girl I was losing hella hair around September 2019 when I was using arc angel after every wash! I was losing hair in BALLS!! I returned it to ulta since and my hair still sheds but it’s gotten better now. I strictly use Camille Rose hair products now
Yea got my hair cut last week and the stylist was shocked it had only been 6 months since my last cut because my hair was uneven and broken in some places so badly. Noticed I was getting increased dandruff and itchiness in my scalp. Couldn't figure out why. Then after my cut, I saw the scandal and noticed I was having similar issues. I only used deva curl about 6 months so I'm praying I caught it in time to reverse whatever damage this product caused in my hair. After switching products even a week ago, I have noticed a significant improvement in curl shape, scalp irritation, and shininess. Currently doing an oil treatment in my hair. Thank you so much for your story.
I’m also so glad I caught it soon. My hairstylist noticed the same thing in my hair when she was cutting it. I’m sure you’ll be able to repair it and slowly just cut off whatever damage is left !
I could see how dry your hair was during editing. It seriously breaks my heart for you. Your curl type is my absolute favorite, and It’s so upsetting to see a product do that.
Kamrin White I’ve seen other people restore their hair and I know you can too! Thanks for sharing your story, I know it will help the case and other individuals as well.
I think people need to start looking at the curly girl method. All these symptoms people are saying they are getting I have had and iv never touched deva curl . My hairdresser made me stop the curly girl method. Applying all them products is suffocating your hair. My hair come out in chunks . I was constantly itchy . My hair was flat lifeless . I went to the hairdresser and she went mad at the amount of product in my hair . And banned me from co washing . When your putting so much product In you need a proper wash to get it out . There is no proof yet and it's unfair if it's not the product. What's the reason for my hair getting the exact same symptoms when iv never touched it .
I haven’t followed the curly girl method for a while. I make sure to cleanse my hair properly and since I terminated the use of deva curl my hair has started bouncing back. Like I’ve stated before, not everyone who smokes gets cancer. Everyone reacts to things differently but this was most definitely their products affecting my hair
Guys this can happen with any hair product company. I have textured curly hair and used the Bumble and Bumble defining styling cream last year and as I was working it through my hair, my hair at the ends started breaking, and I didn't even use that much. I don't use it anymore.
Thank you for posting this! I could not figure out for the life of me what was going on, why the scabs in my scalp, the irration bumps around my ears and neck, is it so itchy and loosing more hair in the shower then usual and my hair not holding pattern for more then a day anymore. I been using them for months and I figured its just been the stress I been under when this whole time. Grateful to come across this video and finally have peace of mind to know why. Thank you ❤
Thanks so much for this video, I used the gel and I noticed how frizzy it was and straw like, and that was just with the tester , so I threw it away...i saw ayesha video and I couldn't believe it, her hair was my dream hair, I hope she can repair it...btw your so sweet i notice how you actually reply to so many people's comments thats awesome!! Btw your beautiful and im glad you got your Hair back !!!
Coconut oil makes my hair feel oily but dry. I stopped using coconut oil about 1yr ago. I forgot to check my products for coconut oil. I haven’t had issues with Devacurl yet but I’m debating if I should keep using it. I’ll check where coconut oil falls in the ingredients list.
Everything she describing happens to me when I use any product that contains coconut oil or derivatives of it. So I avoid all products with coconut...which is so hard because every company putting this product in it. Some of Deva curl product dont have the coconut product in it.
Started using DC Oct 2019. Omg....scalp itching was driving me nuts and I blamed it on EVERYTHING accept my DC products. Stopped using them two weeks ago and it’s better but still worse chemical damage than when I straight up bleached and permed my hair in the 80’s😱
Great talk girl. I always wanted to try their products but they are to high for me. So when I won the new box of devacurl in a giveaway I was so happy. Until I washed my hair once with the cleaner and conditioner and my scalp was itching and burning real bad a couple of days later. So I had to through them out. Smh really didn't want to but had to. Thanks for sharing. 💯
omg i just noticed my hair being weird and not detangling as easy this all started happening after a curly hair salon used devacurl on me and my hair has been mad itchy wtffff i’m thinking about cutting it off :(
Wow that’s so terrible this is really happening to you and everyone. I was actually considering saving up to try the conditioner because I heard so many great things about it. I’m so grateful now that I didn’t fall for the hype right away! 🙏🏾
Thee BratzDoll yeah, I agree with you. I have the beach curl spirals/waves. I’m older and my hair pattern changed to curls about a year and a half ago. So all this was new to me. Watched those deva curl vids but was never really sold on it, especially when I saw their prices. I’m so sorry for everyone effected. Thank heavens I didn’t fall for it. This company should be held accountable.
I just watched a dermatologist Dr Dre say this is nonsense and we are all making it up to jump on the band wagon. And our ethnic co washing is the culprit. I have kids 9 months apart. My eldest used deva curl the youngest didn’t and used Dads conditioner. Only my eldest has serious scalp issues. Both we cowasing ,we all co wash. And nothing like this ever happened to moms or grandmas or anyone else. Only is dev curl is used!! Thank you for your story!! I am so sorry for what you have been though.😢
I absolutely hated her video. It was so gross and victim blame-y I watched another video by a woman named Kenna who is a bio chemist and she explained that even though nothing in the formula seems inherently bad, the ingredients could be adulterated. That makes a lot more sense to me than Dr. Drey’s explanation and victim blaming. I honestly couldn’t even finish Dr. Drey’s whole video because it felt so ignorant and gross.
vanessa la descarada ......I understand that the things she was saying were fucked up in her video but spreading hate...it won’t do anything I’m sorry😔🥺
@@jungwonscactus9425 you should watch bobby s perspective. I got not mercy whatsoever for someone spreading dangerous practices like anorexia!!enough with the sugarcoating!!
Wow, I use Devacurl but not completely. I always hated their shampoo and Conditioner. I stop using the no poo and Conditioner after the first use. However I used all the other products. They worked for a while but I have noticed some changes. Not using it anymore.
Devacurl has completely destroyed my hair too-my hair is baby fine but I used to have pretty spiral curls. About six months ago my stylist told me I had to see my doctor ASAP because my hair had thinned so badly and almost completely lost it’s curl pattern; she felt there had to be something seriously wrong medically. Well, medically I was fine but now I know why my hair was destroyed. Looking near bald in your 40’s is a total self esteem smasher. I’ve been using the new curl line from R+Co (which my hair totally loves) but I don’t know that I’ll ever get my hair back and it’s heartbreaking
I bought deva curl 4 years ago. I bought the shampoo, conditioner and gel. After the first wash I could tell my hair hated it. I washed it one more time and same issue. Dry, matted, and curls were not poppin
I’m sorry that you are going through this experience. We trust that companies are looking out for us especially the more “high quality” companies and often times they are only looking out for themselves. To those with the negative or some just naive comments please please continue to do your research. Product buildup won’t cause your hair to fall out in batches, your hair to tangle with the slightest touch, your complete texture to change, your complete curl pattern to change, your nails to become brittle and break off, headaches and other symptoms that are now being linked in lawsuits to DevaCurl. There are many users of their products that weren’t even using NoPoo shampoos. Some only used the styler products and found that after they stopped things improved. There are also many women & men that had virgin non-chemically treated hair that suffered as well. If you have a good stylist you can keep your chemically treated hair in good health. I think Kamrin you have shown you have been doing that. I hope things get better for you!
I’ve been following the devacurl controversy videos and personally I used the product for two and a half months summer of 2019 (July thru September). During that time I also noticed loss of curl pattern, itchy scalp, that fried dry feeling, and breakage. By November my hair was short, thin, uneven, and just bad. So I decided to use ACV to cleanse my hair (because I was still on the no-poo bandwagon) and did that weekly from December to January. I bought a ez detangler brush and different conditioners, leave ins, moisturizers, and styling gels. And during those months my hair slowly bounced back in length and density. This month (feb) I went back to using sulfate free shampoo and well as using the conditioner and my hair is softer and feels healthier. I’m just sharing my experience recovering from devacurl hair damage. I know it’s different for everyone and difficult if there was long term use and irreversible side effects. But for short term users like me, maybe there’s hope to bounce back. It took me three months to regrow what was lost in summer and fall of last year. Good luck, love and light!
Have u tried Aphogee 2 step protein treatment to stop hair breakage? It literally worked wonders on my hair to stop breakage. Just follow up with a really moisturizing conditioner.
I used DEVACURL religiously and I was very skeptical about it too!! After washing my hair out it would feel very rough and hard to de tangle. I stopped using it a few months back... it’s crazy how you spend so much on a product that isn’t worth it 😞
I'm not sure if it's just the no poo products. I couldn't afford anything from the line, so I would buy just the styling cream. My hair has thinned out and my scalp gets super itchy. Idk if other people are having the same issue, but this is what has been happening to me.
How many years ago did you try it?? I did about 13 to 14 years ago and i loved how easy it was to go back and forth from straight to curly so sad this is where they are now.. Smh
Ivy belle maybe about 2-3 years ago and it was awful! 😫 what made it worse was I was going through all the postpartum stuff after having a baby so my hair was falling at the same time so my head literally looked like hay with bald temples 🤣🤣🤣🤣
i used deva curl for about a month. i realized my hair got really frizzy really fast and i just stopped using it. now , my hair is slowly getting better but after my second day it’s already frizzy. i’m glad i stopped using it
I’ve been using DevaCurl for about a year now and my hair has gotten so matted and my scalp is so itchy and no matter how many times I’ve washed my head I’ve had build up on my scalp without over applying products ! I seriously thought my hormones were drying and irritating my hair since I don’t ovulate every month . But the only new thing was DevaCurl . I now need silk pillow cases and silk hair wrap and deep condition my hair with 100% natural products that are NOT DevaCurl ! It’ll take a while to get my hair back to what it was !
That’s crazy that all of this is coming out. Everyone used to praise Deva Curl and I always felt bad that I couldn’t afford it. Now I’m happy that I never used any of those products. I’m so sorry this happened to you guys!
I tried deva curl last year. I bought the no poo, melt into moisture and the curl cream. These products immediately made my hair very brittle and dry after one use. The next day, I immediately returned the products back to Ulta and as soon as I returned home i washed the products out of my hair with some stuff I had in my stash. I could barley comb though my hair and detangle. It took weeks to get back to a somewhat moisturized state..I too tried to wash my hair everyday. Friend told me I was going to much but I didnt know what to do to get my hair soft again. I have now switched to a aryuveda regimen which is helping a lot.
Wow, I recently decided to use some devacurl products rather than my homemade stuff. My hair became dry, frizzy, and tangled. I threw out the products assuming my hair was too sensitive. Turns out it maybe an issue for everyone. I should have stuck to my normal ish.
That is exactly what happened to me. I used DevaCurl years prior and then couldn’t afford it. When I went back to it later on, I immediately knew something was different. After I used it the second time, my hair just went frizzy and wouldn’t curl up right. I stopped using it right away and I think I escaped pretty much unscathed but it was months before my hair came back to almost normal. Only two uses. SMH. I wonder what happened with this whole situation? I know it’s still on the shelves.
Hi, I am so sorry for your crisis. This is the reason that I don't use products with chemicals. Not to say that you can't react to natural products but it far more safer I think. My thoughts on Deva Curl is I didn't buy this product because of the price , the chemicals and the assumption that it would not work for my hair. I'm 4b/4c.
I loved it years ago. Then I stopped using it. Went back to it about a year ago and found it wasn’t doing what it used to. Then my scalp got sooo itchy. Stopped using it. I thought it was just me. Hair was so dry and is still recovering.
Same thing happened to me as well. I was using Deva Curl for the 1st 6 mos of wearing my hair curly. I had 27 inch long hair. My hair has always been healthy UNTIL Deva curl! It became matted, dull, ultra, ultra dry and notted!! Even conditioner wouldnt help comb through it. I end up cutting half of my hair to my shoulders!! My scalp itched constantly. I am just now getting my hair to grow at its regular pace. I cut am inch each month b/c it grows an inch a month. So now about 10 inches is all new growth and 4 inches left of the deva product hair. My curl pattern changed and no longer curls at the roots but starts to curl half way?? My haie felt and acted like I had a blow out kit when I used Deva curl.
I used deva curl for bout a month until the bottle was done and have had this scalp problem ever since. For my hair, I’ve been using olaplex and I got probiotic soap bar for my hair It have been helping lot.
I’m SO confused. I’ve been using this product like for like 5 years. I’ve never had any of these issues. I’m thinking about changing now! I’m paranoid!
I’m so glad I’ve always been to broke to buy deva girl

Being a female of color this hits hard. I'm puerto Rican and my hair was damaged and it took me 7-8 years to make it good enough that it could be considered natural. I always wanted devacurl but could never afford it. If my hair had suffered the way you ladies have I would be curled up in a ball crying my life away. Our hair is already a topic of too kinky, too curly, to nappy. We're raised that relaxers are what we need to look pretty. Breaking out of that cycle to finally love your hair and then this crap happens? It's not right. I'm sorry you're going through this. My heart goes out to you.
I could not have worded this better ! Thank you for ur kind words Maria 💕
@@nathalie7312 Bendito , I'm sorry for your daughter I hope her hair grows back thick and full and that she doesn't get any health issues.
Being broke saved my hair 😂
I always thought they were expensive and never bought them. Glad I didn't.
If Devacurl isn't pulling their products then it's up to us. My suggestion is exposing the batch code numbers off our current bottles that might be causing the damages
I’m keeping my bottles so I can send it in when they start testing them
gloww i took a pic before I returned it
Take your bottles to a third party company because diva curl could manipulate the results of the testing
@@KamrinWhite smart. Get them to pay you for this nonsense!!!
You can file a report with the FDA. The only way to get Deva Curl to do a recall is pressure from the FDA
I don’t have curly hair, but my heart breaks for all the women who have been effected by these products. I pray your hair recovers quickly. ❤️❤️
💕💕
Hair is so important to all women, whether it be short or long, straight or curly, it is the centre of our beauty, and a great contributor to our confidence. It’s so sad that this is happening. I’m glad I never used it.
I have very loose wavy curl ish hair. And this melts my heart and I feel so bad for these girls who have suffered bc of this .💞💞
I started using devacurl about 7 weeks ago (the week of Christmas) and my long waist length hair was FRIED.
@@jaileenvillegas3634 Exactly! My hair looks like a relaxed it. Even now after cutting it off it is still just wavy ☹
OMG THAT IS HORRIBLE ! I’d highly suggest joining the current lawsuit
Oh you poor thing, that is awful!
Hearing stories from people who very recently started using DevaCurl and suddenly began having major hair issues is further strong evidence that the ingredients in these products are trash. I'm so sorry this happened to you! If you haven't tried it already, maybe a really good hair detox will help it to repair and heal.
everyone is talking about this, wow
It’s mind blowing !
exactly. All of a sudden everybody comes out... reminds me of other situations going on in the world.
Tony C right
It only takes a few ambers to start a wildfire...
Illona Vijverberg really well put
This is so crazy i remember the early days of UA-cam when this product was a MUST have! I never used it because i refused to pay that price plus i have 4c hair so i didn't think it would work for me anyways 🤷🏾♀️ i feel so bad for those that this has hurt.
YESS ! It was such an elite product
@@KamrinWhite i hope that you can find something that will revitalize your hair! And hopefully you and the others harmed by this will get the compensation you all deserve! ❤

The price and not seeing any 4c naturals doing any hair reviews on deva curl made me thinking twice about purchasing Devacurls.
I also refused to pay that price for product
its extremely irresponsible for their company to act this way. no recalls, only blaming the consumers.
Yes !
leah rose that is a reason you need to properly cleanse your scalp!
I’m really waiting on a black woman who is also a beauty chemist to analyze the ingredients in their products and spill the tea to us
This is exactly what I was thinking and waiting for

"Curly Chemistry" is this and has done this. Merry Christmas! lol
I used deva curl for a month and I experienced a whole lot of hair loss. I use drug store products before and never had that much loss!! I never used DC religiously but it almost messed up my hair
Yes I’ve always used drugstore before ! Never steered me wrong
Dont get fooled by these brands cheaper is sometimes better
A friend of mine reminded me that Deva Curl was bought out last year, and it’s possible that whoever bought them changed their ingredients
this has been going on for awhile :((( watch ashyea (sorry if i spelt this wrong) it'll explain how long it's been happening 💖💖
Everyone who has experienced something like this should join the petition against the company
I am !
Yeah i had the itching, extremely dry, texture changed, breaking, 1st time usage it did pretty good, but hair was always dryer than i had experienced.

I believe I am also a victim of this too!! And you hit the nail on the head!! I had NO IDEA that it was DevaCurl that caused my thinness!!😩 I blamed mine on hormones and having children😔
Ugh I’m so sorry to hear that ):
Same! I blamed it on the dry winter, getting older, my straightener being old and pulling my hair... which wouldn't make sense because I was barely ever straightening it. I could sometimes get to 4 days before washing, now 1 or 2. But at the same time I don't want to wash it that much, especially now 😔
Stina Rut Noo I was putting this is my toddlers hair?!!! It’s so thin and weird now
I hope everyone sees my comment, I believe they put some kind of relaxer in the products but won’t say it. Please everybody don’t throw the products away, keep them they could be used for testing !
I thought maybe a "blowout" type straightener b/c my hair wasnt straight but poofy with only curls at the very ends.
Thats what I thought too though I dont use it because I am so scared to try non organic brands
I heard one of the products had lye in it, an active ingredient in relaxers.
Keisha SevenHandKnits I don’t know if it is that simple... if there is indeed some type of relaxer in it that would totally explain the loose curls, the scalp burning/itching/irritation, the bald spots etc.... I don’t know how one recover from that
Chalsey Wilder and you are absolutely right about that
I’m so glad I’m too cheap for this . It took FOREVER to grow out my natural hair . Aprox 7 years . I can’t imagine how devastating it is for those affected . I would be so so sad . It really takes a long time to achieve LONG virgin curls .
Margaret Creates it takes my hair forever to grow too ):
Yeah. Sounds like they put reallllllly mild relaxer or the stuff they put in kids texturizer...yeah this is crazy.
Start scrubbing your scalp, oiling your scalp with hemp oil or pure olive oil to get your hair back

That is horrible ! I’m so sorry 🥺💛
Someone said above they think it has relaxer type chemicals in it. It does loose the curl pattern...
@Autumm Dethlefs
It's traumatic to have hair damage.
@@symphony2598
Wow, I wasnt aware of the extent of damage! Chemicals can definitely do that. She may need to see a dermatologist/hair specialist.
Diana Becker but I heard this too is causing damage to women’s hair, like the ingredients aren’t healthy for curly hair over long time duration
Yesss ! My stylist swears by all of olaplex stuff
Yes you HAVE to follow their instructions. It’s a potent formula
Olaplex fried my hair abd it broke off after 1 use at a professional salon. Turns out my hair is protein sensitive
I need to stop looking at deva curl stories cause I'm bouta cry at this point
Wow, just from a month. It really sounds like there’s chemicals in it similar to relaxers.
You’re so beautiful 🥺💝💕
I just saved enough money to buy full size bottles and a full line - shampoo, conditioner, styler, gel, deep condition. I was literally about to go buy them and then these videos started popping up.
I hope your curls heal and pop back to life.
Thank you lovie ! And save ur coin for urself ! Shea moisture is a great line or if you want a higher end brand I love Redkins curl line
Ugh that’s horrible ! The itching was the worst part for me. I’m so sorry to hear that !
I was using Devacurl for 3 years up until this recent august. I feel your pain
I noticed devacurl caused me hair fall after the 4th use. I literally thought it was because my hair is sensitive to protein. I never thought it was beyond that. I feel so fortunate that I stopped using deva right away.
Ugh so sorry to hear that ! Thank god u caught it in enough time 💕
@@KamrinWhite thank you for responding 💓 yes I feel like I dodged a bullet 😥
Never used it and glad I didn’t. Not only was that stuff super expensive, it wasn’t for my type of hair.
It is soooo pricey smh !
I’m so sorry to hear that ):
I'm so happy your telling your story this will help a lot of people including my self so thank you.
I definitely feel for all the women experiencing this, no one should go through this. You’re a beautiful woman, I think you would look stunning with short curly cut 🥰. I wish you a healthy and prosperous recovery with your hair Queen 🙏🏽 thank you for sharing
Chloe Bruton thank you 💛
I’ve been natural for 8 years.
Andelkyz Perez it’s crazy how theres so much people with the same story and people still don’t believe it smh
Someone needs to start a class action lawsuit 💯
They have
What's weird to me is the things that people are saying that Deva is doing to their hair, only BLEACHING the hair can do!
She isn't the only one though. I doubt it the bleach, some girls whom had issues hair weren't bleached or colored
They put a formaldehyde preservative in it that might be acting as a relaxer
Yes something definitely changed because I know my hair used to love the products
Sooo glad I looked this up before I put it in my hair! I was literally going to try a sample pack tonight! Thanks for saving me the drama!
My hair stylist told me she noticed an ingredient shared with body hair removal creams. When her students asked about this at their advanced Deva training, they (basically) refused to reply.

Me either ! Im forever done with them
OMG, I've watched so many videos involving the deva curl scandal and I had yet to see someone with same damage that I had after using.
I just did a big chop and I thought like deva curl was good to use but now watching these videos I threw out all my devacurl products
They’re not ! Use shes moisture
Yess you never even think it’s that. It didn’t click for me either till I watched videos
Completely resonate with your story , having major scalp burning sensation, itching to the point that my scalp hurts. My hair is dry and breaking.
Me too ! Thank you sm 💕

@@sharonluquis5823 yes...? Me what ?

It really is. It’s getting better tho thankfully ! Little by little
Kamrin White I’ve seen other people restore their hair and I know you can too!
Yes coconut oil does the same for me !
It’s so sad bc they were such a great company before with great product. Idk what happened ):
I love her, shes so pretty, im so sorry this happened to you.
hahah thank you ! its okay, its life ! things happen
i only used DC on a wig and it ruined my wig. i’m glad i didn’t put it in my hair.
omg i just noticed my hair being weird and not detangling as easy this all started happening after a curly hair salon used devacurl on me and my hair has been mad itchy wtffff i’m thinking about cutting it off :(
Wow that’s so terrible this is really happening to you and everyone. I was actually considering saving up to try the conditioner because I heard so many great things about it. I’m so grateful now that I didn’t fall for the hype right away! 🙏🏾
Girl sometimes not having the money be saving you !!!!
Kamrin White Lol for real tho! When being broke save your life 🙏🏾😂😂😭
Thee BratzDoll yeah, I agree with you.
Heidi LeeJade i have a few issues with dr dre... this just seals it for me thag i wont listen to anything she says ever..
I don't know why people watch this anorexic entitled witch
vanessa la descarada ......I understand that the things she was saying were fucked up in her video but spreading hate...it won’t do anything I’m sorry😔🥺
Something definitely changed !
your voice is so calming and pretty
Thank you 💕
Devacurl has completely destroyed my hair too-my hair is baby fine but I used to have pretty spiral curls.
Melanie Hall yes Melanie ! Thank youu ❤️
Wow, glad you’re sharing your experience 😮
Yes I have ! But I only suggest doing it 4x a year bc it’s soooo high in protein
My natural hair hates protein treatments. My daughter and I suffered extreme breakage after protein. 3.5 years later still growing back.
I used DEVACURL religiously and I was very skeptical about it too!! After washing my hair out it would feel very rough and hard to de tangle. I stopped using it a few months back... it’s crazy how you spend so much on a product that isn’t worth it 😞
Yes ):
I'm not sure if it's just the no poo products. I couldn't afford anything from the line, so I would buy just the styling cream. My hair has thinned out and my scalp gets super itchy. Idk if other people are having the same issue, but this is what has been happening to me.
I keep watching videos where people say it's only the no poo, if anyone has the same issue please let me know and if you've found any solutions.
I tried it once years ago and hated it. It turned my hair into a Brillo pad.
):
How many years ago did you try it?? I did about 13 to 14 years ago and i loved how easy it was to go back and forth from straight to curly so sad this is where they are now..
Smh
Ivy belle maybe about 2-3 years ago and it was awful! 😫 what made it worse was I was going through all the postpartum stuff after having a baby so my hair was falling at the same time so my head literally looked like hay with bald temples 🤣🤣🤣🤣
i used deva curl for about a month. i realized my hair got really frizzy really fast and i just stopped using it. now , my hair is slowly getting better but after my second day it’s already frizzy. i’m glad i stopped using it
same for me. Usually by the end of day 1 its done
Im so sorry to hear this ! my hair is the same way. I now have to take super good care of it
Mary Charriez THIS IS MY EXACT SITUATION I used to wash my hair once a week and now I have to wash it three times a week.
Deva Curl also damaged my hair 😫 I have been using it religiously for 7 yrs. I now have to cut my hair.
They put a chemical in which is in relaxers which is why people's hair is so dry, losing it's defintion, and having it falling off.
Same for me !!
I have naturally curly hair and was thinking about trying this... So glad I didn't. I'm sorry this happened to you ☹️
Ugh you saved urself !!
I used deva curl for bout a month until the bottle was done and have had this scalp problem ever since. For my hair, I’ve been using olaplex and I got probiotic soap bar for my hair It have been helping lot.
Journey2AhNewMe I’m so sorry to hear that !
I’m SO confused. I’ve been using this product like for like 5 years. I’ve never had any of these issues. I’m thinking about changing now! I’m paranoid!
