We are moving shops and I needed a unique solution for a project that cut down on the amount of tools I had to cart back and forth. I came up with this track saw that can do everything that a chop saw, a track saw and a crosscut sled can do at just about any angle! It can do rip and cross cuts from 45-90 degrees.
Let me know what you’d like to see next! Please like, comment and subscribe.

I tried my hardest to try every version of a homemade track saw. I then jumped into the Kreg offerings. Never really being happy with those solutions, I just admitted that if I wanted track saw precision and function, I needed to buy an actual track saw. Hello Festool. Best money I ever spent.

Another way to solve the knobs vs. saw issue for that short fence would be to make it out of a wider 3/4" plywood panel instead of a stick. Or a 3/4" panel with another narrow strip added to the top if you really want the height. Then the knobs can be set further back for clearance.
Speaking of knobs, I really like the small, round Powertec QNB3004 knobs for jigs because they are nice and small. They are hard to find and Bezos has them overpriced on his website. The only other place I can find them is Lee Valley where you get a few in a massive kit but then the rest is just star knobs and bigger stuff. If you can find a way to sell those round buggers for a decent price, it's a winner for your store.

Someone gave me a 2 piece 100” cutting guide which I quickly found out flexed at the splice. I repurposed them into fences for rip guides based on 1/4 luan plywood. I think your asking one jig to do to much. The set up for cross cuts is too fussy. I make separate dedicated crosscut guides also based on Luan. I also made 45 degree crosscut jigs for left and right cut saws for cutting birdsmouths on a garage with 12/12 pitch. They were the most precise rafters I ever made. I never glue the fence on as I want to periodically move the fence and freshen the edge. If the base is thick you lose depth of cut. If the fence is thick you have to raise the motor giving up even more depth. I have a crosscut jig that right cuts with corded Makita and left cuts with cordless Ryobi on the other side.

I have an 8 x 48 x 3/4 plywood cutoff for the base, but none for the rip fence. Therefore, my variation will use a 48" Universal T-Track as the rip fence (screwed on top of the base, vs. inset in a dado). Scrap-on-hand costs less than T-Track, but I have no more, and T-Track costs less than buying more plywood. The wide side will be trimmed for my circular saw (4-5/8); the narrow side trimmed for my jigsaw (1-3/8). I'll add the bottom bench hook immediately, and the bottom dados & T-Track later. If my experiment performs poorly, I'll bite the bullet, buy a Qtr. Sheet of plywood, and revert to your 2-layer design.

9:44 Is that safe to have your free hand so close to the spinning circular saw blade?
I’ve seen a lot of UA-cam videos of carpenters explain that they lost their fingers using circular saw when their freehand was either holding the workpiece, or next to the blade like here at 9:44. And these were woodworkers who had worked 20 years before losing fingers. *I just want the best for you cause you’re such a cool guy* 👍 🖐

Dumb question: Is this a TRACKsaw or is it a (super cool and versatile and adjustable) fence/guide?
Maybe it's the tech writer in me coming out, but I'd assume 'tracksaw' implies the saw running *in* an actual track, not just butted up against a straight edge on one side. If you're repurposing a non-track circular saw for the purpose, that invariably involves modding the shoe/baseplate to ride the track with little to no lateral slop.

    1) SPECIFIC DIMENSIONS of EACH wood piece that I need to cut.
    2) Inset distances (plural) from edges (plural) of the base piece for attaching RIP-CUT FENCE to the BASE piece.
    3) Inset distance for T-Track dados -- 1.5" for the 2 on the BOTTOM of the base (thank you!), and [not specified] on TOP of the RIP-CUT FENCE.

I wouldn't necessarily call this a Track Saw ( more of a Track Guide) as the circular saw does not run on a guided track as they do with true Track Saws. This is what I used before I bought a Mikita Track Saw, and even though it got the job done, I had to be careful to keep the base of the circular saw up against the guide...pain in the ass.

95% of people who want to make their own track saw are looking that up because they don't have access to a table saw. Then you show how to make a track saw guide but it requires the use of a table saw... This has zero use to me unfortunately.

I've put out over 300 videos in the last 6 years and I assure that this is the slowest speed I can muster. Apologies but maybe there's someone else you could relate to more. Cheers

My father is 83 and lives in a long term care facility with 92 other people over 75 years old. Roughly half of them religiously gather in the day room and watch JKM. They don't have a problem with his speaking pace. What's your sample pool of "older people"? Just you? Maybe leave productive comments that add to the community rather than critiquing something insignificant.
Also, UA-cam has a feature to watch videos at different speeds. You can slow the audio and video down by 75%, 50% and 25%. If you want to stick around and be part of the JKM community, maybe give it a try.

@@ezdankie my guy! Tell that retirement community I say hello. Or better yet send me an email with some details and I'll record them a shirt video to say hello!
