Think the Mazda 3 looks good? Vote in our poll at 01:20 to tell us what the best looking car is, is it the Mazda 3, Kia Ceed, Mercedes A-Class, or Toyota Corolla?
I love my new Mazda 3. In Southern California I have seen many. I feel special in my new car. Love it.
I just love the look of the new 3 especially the side rear which reminds me of an Alfasud only better :-)
A-class for interior
Mazda 3 and Ford Focus 🔥
Mazda
This car in hatchback form looks 5 times better than any other "regular" car out there. It is stunning.
Definitely a looker. I just got one in soul red. The reaction from other drivers so far reminds me a lot of the 10 3 in celestial blue that I had. They want to race.... lol.
Exactly my point is too👍
Best design ever, would NEVER choose a Ford over this
Took a test drive. Very classy car. Bought one!
Me to!
How are you liking it?
@@bcnicholas123 not a single regret so far :D
Simon Vuylsteke Awesome. I’m probably buying a used 2017 but still really excited for it
@@bcnicholas123 I don't know if I'm too late, but don't buy a previous generation one, they're too loud and unrefined. It's only with the 2019 update that they became pretty luxiourious.
Interior is next level compared to crappy focus.
Exactly, I don't see anything exciting about Any ford cars...they are bland and boring
The rear legroom is better in the new focus and will be probably be nicer to drive.
@@EinkOLED Im detecting some BS here!
@@EinkOLED I really don't care about practicality. Yes, ford is nicer to drive. But Ford is poorly equipped. Even in higher trims it's got halogen headlights with is ridiculous. Even envy level mazda 3 has LED headlights.
@@jazzip2989 Ford is very nicely sound insulated.
As a former golf 7 now Mazda 3 owner and having test driven a few cars including the Skoda Octavia and seat Leon I can safely say that the Mazda 3 handles best on twisty roads by far.
What sort of MPG did you get out of the Mazda on all types of roads and motorways?
@@taylorthrall7321 according to the Board computer i get 41 mpg. No idea if thats correct 😄
I have one here in Denmark. The car is amazing. I love how quiet the cabin is. Very economic and a nice 122hp motor. Great job, Mazda!
Hi mate how are you getting along with your mazda 3 after a few months still in love with it.
Ved du hvad vægtafgiften ligger på sådan en og hvad køre den literen ?
Yes the 122 bhp engine being the letdown. It looks amazing I have a new a4 sline with an effortless yet not fast grunty 190 bhp diesel and find myself looking at these with envy. They look absolutely stunning. Do they do a high power diesel or petrol turbo with circa 180bhp. Skyactiv I think its called.
What sort of MPG did you get out of the Mazda on all types of roads and motorways?
@@taylorthrall7321Above 40 is pretty normal. The spec is over 50 though.
Mazda’s doing really well in California. I see them every day
just bought a Mazda 3 GT25 in poly grey and love it, drives like a dream - first time Mazda driver
To answer your question why the passenger seat has a rear pouch and not the driver seat. When you are in the driver seat and need to reach back its easier to go for the rear passenger seat, its driver focused, the way it should be.
Same is in the MX5. Mazda do think of the driver.
The saloon version of this car eliminates a lot of the drawbacks of the space, headroom and light in the rear seats and I think it’s classically more handsome than the hatch. Plus the Mazda should be more reliable than any of its German competitors!
Review seems to have a different opinion to other reviews of the same car. I've seen the handling compared very well to the Focus but seen the infotainment criticised as merely ok. Long term running costs should be much less than rivals especially if you take the car beyond its warranty. The lack of turbo is to increase reliability, the Japanese don't like to engineer cars that fail after a few years with huge bills hence they avoid fitting turbo's to small engines and thrashing the engine constantly.
A peeve of mine is only comparing build quality for the interior, there is a huge amount of build quality elsewhere in the car i.e. the engine and mechanicals. A nice interior is little compensation when you are waiting for the AA to turn up again and tow you to the dealer.
Personally I see the Mazda 3 a class above most cars of its type but I haven't driven one so can't give a full verdict but it just looks a brilliant car on face value.
You should try one! You won't be dissapointed!
I tried both the Skyactiv G and X. The G is very slow, while the X is just ok, but you won’t say it has 180bhp. You have to rev it a lot for that kind of power and in the normal driving you don’t. The interior quality is better than the one seen on my uncle A35 AMG, but they are very dark and there is not a lot of space. Seating position and gearbox are just perfect. I come from an Abarth 595 and I’m in the market for a car of this segment. Hopefully I’ve been of some help
@@GermanMike89 Natural aspirated engines have to be driven in higher revs. Unlike the small, 1.4 turbo engines.
Ive got a Mazda 3 2015 tuned to 180 hp and it's so much fun to drive and very reliable.
@@Reyalpix I never affirmed the contrary. Just saying that for my driving style, I prefer turbos. Mazda 3 is a very well balanced package
I see a few of these driving around around Canterbury. They do look *really* nice in the metal, and are certainly more head turning than competitors!
A beautiful looking car. Makes me regret having a default choice new s line a4. With a grunty effortless diesel. Different segment but I stare at these wanting one. The 2.0 petrol n/a engine is feeble though apparently crazy smooth. I got an astra k 150 turbo as a runaround its dull dull dull. Engines the only thing going for it. Live just up the road in Herne Bay. And see plenty in Crayford due to the mazda garage there.
Another great review guys!
This is does an excellent job reviewing vehicles. Keep up the good work brother! ✊
New King is Mazda 3..excellent disagn..very very beatifull car..it looks so sport also inside is so nice.
Could you please explain what do you want to say at 11:32 with keep the three straight?
Good informative review, I'd probably have to go for the more meaty 2.0 SkyActivX. I'm still undecided on what I want next but this is definitely up their, I know I don't want another SUV.
Would love this with sport trim, but the smaller 16" wheels. Missing the manual handbreak too
I hope some carmakers will keep the analog speedometers as it is UTTERLY UGLY to put some crappy screen there. This Mazda 3 is spot on and well done Mazda!
How would you rare the 1.2 sports version?
I wish 2020 Mazda3 hatchback had changed the rear end proportions, the rear fenders look weird from some angles.i wonder if rear wheel offset would fix it?
9:40 Yes Mazda have one of the best diesel engines out there if u ask me. Even the 2.2d Mazda 6. I took one for a test drive and i could still feel power at 5500 lol. I was even tempted to stretch it to 6000 jst to see how much it would strain.
What is the color of the one showed in the video?
It is gorgeous except I would like the backside to have a small fin and not a hatch back. The grill looks like its mad about something. Very sleek.
I would suggest all the comments about space and visibility are answered by the sedan. Interesting that there is high praise for the infotainment controls, others say it is outdated by touchscreen control. They are wrong and touchscreen is counter productive for safety.
The map pocket is on the back of the passenger seat so that the driver can reach back with one arm and grab a map or other useful item out of the pocket whilst driving
Now I know the reason why it's located at the other side. I knew there must be a logical reason for that.👌
But why doesn’t it have two of them, passengers need somewhere to put their stuff too
@@jesusrmzilva1426 they've got the glove box
It also gives the driver a bit more seat adjustment that may be needed whereas the front passenger is potentially more able to accept compromise.
It looks perfect!!
Seriously, look at this design then look at the Skoda Scala! No contest in my eyes. You will fall asleep looking at the Skoda! This looks fantastic! All subjective I guess!
Was going to get a new golf but checked out the Mazda 3 and was amazed by all of the equipment that was standard and the quality of the interior.
Really great car!
Nice review , thanks
Can you see the windscreen hud display from the passenger side ?
Blindspots were a dealbreaker for my mum. Got her an Impreza & love it.
Antonio Zamudio yeh if it was me I’d get the Mazda... maybe. Actually depends on funds, Impreza was a score with all the kit & I don’t drive like a goon now that I’m a mid 30s old fart so the slowness n CVT wouldn’t bother me I think. Can’t be as slow as my GT86 😂
What blind spots?comes with birds eye.
ordered mine in soul red crystal getting it in october cant wait :)
How is it?
@@cx5870 its fantastic loving it :)
Absent a turbo should improve reliability. Overall, looks like a great car.
Comments on handling seem to centre on grip ( which is not the same thing), Mazda make the odd choice to fit many of the 3s with Toyo tyres which aren't the best, especially with the 16" wheels. Switch to some decent rubber and the grip is excellent wet or dry. The handling itself I would say is the equal of a focus. Plenty of feel, good response and even a hint of balance to it.
Really lovely looking car apart from that C pillar area. Not a fan of that. The interior is super plush but the money they're asking for is right up into Golf territory here in Ireland. The residual value just won't hold up. Selling a Golf is probably the easiest car to sell on, this will be tougher when the time comes. But it is seriously beautiful looking.
Glad I'm in the states, where the 2.0L has 155 HP, the 2.5L has 186 HP, and the 2.5L turbo has 250 HP.
Great looking car. Would be top of my list for a sensible family car. CD player too is brilliant, none of this inferior Bluetooth audio nonsence
Vastly different handling car here in Australia. Every reviewer has said it's one of the best for handling.
Sat in one today and it's seriously good inside.
My 2016 model Mazda 3's Infotainment console went on endless loop. Hard reboot did not work. Mazda dealership diagnosed it as a dead CMU (the brains of the console). Will cost $1300.00 to replace. They don't know when part will arrive. Last time my rear tail light cracked, it took 4 months to get the part. I wonder how long the CMU will take.
Out of curiosity does that white “Passenger Airbag” light above the rear view mirror ever go out?
No, it doesnt and like a lot of things in this car it drives me crazy!
Just bought a new one. Love it.
Really like Mazda cars. Will definitely look at the 180bhp one when I change my Golf Gti next year
In German tests of the 180 Sky-X, it turned out quite disappointing. It still has a healthy appetite for fuel and you do not really think it has 180 when you drive it. Shame, cause I was looking forward to that engine as well as a decent used buy a few years down the line
@@Gunzbergyeah but its using like 7 liters of fuel which is not much for a 180hp NA car. For example golf mk4 gti used 10 liters with its 1.8 180 turbo engine.
@@britishentertainment7610 but with a Golf you feel the 180 PS...perhaps everyone just has to test drive the SkyX for themselves!
Stay with the GTI - this Mazda is crap.

I haven't yet seen any cd player in different configurations of this car at our Mazda dealer nor I have seen any option to add this item itself or due to a package update. Think this isn't included in models for Germany perhaps.
Chris M. Nice. Another reason to buy it!
craig mitchell pillred
What’s next. You’ll complain about not being able to use your LP records?
CD’s are far in the past, just face the reality and adjust your habits.
@craig mitchell pillred Thanks for the fair explanation. I do understand your point of view.
I didn't grow up with smartphones, but certainly got used to them and for me, a CD player is quite a lot of wasted space on the dash. Manufacturers can't easily offer both options, as you'd have to re-structure the center dash. Hence my disapproval.
Not everyone has a smart phone
Best looking car by far 👌
Golf has 380 litre boot much larger then 295 litre 3 here at Australia
Exactly. Armrests are usually too far back.
What's the sound system like ?
Amazing. Had to take the Bose sound sistem , it was a must
I wish we got a CD player in Canada
Yep none of that cheap intercooler shit. A real N/A japanese-built tank engine!
I bought a Mazda 3 2013 2.2d about 6 months ago and it's one of the best cars I have had. Fast grippy and feels like a go kart so very surprised to hear this new one doesn't handle that well as mine grips to the road like glue and feels mega sporty.
Your rear suspension is more advanced than on the new model. They cut corners on that helas.

Do you recommend a brand new 2020 Mazda 3 or a used 2019 Audi A3?
Martin Sepulveda A Mazda 3 hands down. Great drive and great reliability.
That`s a very "dark" car, inside and out! :O
But it is good.
Moonroof helps.... if that is a concern...
Titled 2021 review but filmed in 2019. Details of power/torque improvements on 2021 Skyactiv-X engine is missing. Time for a real update!
Incredibly sturdy that wobbles like hell. Glorious body styling mind
#SkyactivG loooool, do love the look of the 3, much better looking than the ultra-common A-Class. Not sure about the engine choices though, Skyactiv-X hasn't turned out to be as good as I was hoping. Another solid review from Doug though, keep it up sir :)
Tests also showed that you CAN drive the X with around 5 to 5.5 l/100km. Don't believe the bs BILD review.
I disagree. The rear looks comfy and safe. The smaller windows give you privacy and a sense of your own space.
I'd take this over the new Focus, anyday. Looks great in and outside. More realible and that SkyActiv is very efficient
Neil Visarra no it’s not, these were just recalled because the wheels weren’t tightened right and the body control module fails, 2 with in 6 months of launch. The Skyactive has less power and isn’t as fuel efficient as the Focus 1.5 3cyl 182ps
@@cameronm4201 In UK you can get the 2.5 liter which is efficient and has enough power. Of course the rest of the Europe gets the silly 2.0 which is dialed back from 160HP because of the shitty regulations. Luckily a quick computer connection fixes that bullshit. I saw one already unlocked and it seems that it gets more power above 3500 RPMs.
@@cameronm4201 uh those are very minor issues lol, the Ford focus has had 100x more recalls for bigger things lmao
@@cameronm4201 I have had zero issues with my 2019 Mazda 3 GT : p
Mazda is basically a ford and shares parts, so not likely to be any more or else reliable.
mazda 3 better!!!!!
love this car!!!
The reason the handling is especially poor in the wet is the poor Toyo tyres fitted.. Put some Michelin or Goodyears on it and its miles better.
10:48 easy Ayrton! Nice cornering.
Cheers man!
They need the Mps version then I'm in!
The sonic silver was beautiful, what a shame Mazda removed this colour from the pallet.
Who's doing the steering while you're resting your arms?
Beautiful
I'm sorry, i work at audi and vw and just bought a mazda 3. The Mazda is just better build then the audi... Not sure where you get your opinion from tho.
I have a 2019 Mazda 3 preferred hatchback. How would the build quality compare to the new audi a3 and a4
@@Getmoney4evrr As a drivers perspective, i think it's all personal. But in the back i believe the quality of the mazda is pretty much better. They also say there is not that much space in the back, but there is no lack of space imo. But the current a3 is getting a bit outdated imo. The golf 8 aparently has gone down in quality of materials used, have not seen one myself. So if the new a3 that they will someday make follows the same patern... I also like the quality of the screen alot more over the a3. But once again, it's newer.
I don't think the a4 fits to compare against a mazda 3 since it's a class higher, for me atleast.
And if you look at the price and what you get for it, I don't think you have to think twice, atleast not here where i live.
If you want a mazda, just go test drive one and see for yourself, be aware if it is a 2.0l 122hp na engine, you have to rev it a bit higher to get to the power. I do think it's alot more fun to drive than a 1.0 or 1.5 tfsi. Seems like the 1.5 and especially the 1.0 seems dull at higher rpm's.
I also like the shifter of the mazda alot more, you also get rev matching when shifting up, so you can quite shift seemlessly, even when riding sportly. The audi's seem to be lacking at that compartiment. Some a3's seem to shift well and some have more rev hang when shifting, i have no idea why tho.
The audi's are somewhat userfriendly tho, you get in the car and you feel the dimensions of the car, with the mazda i had to get used to it, more visibility in the audi. Might also be because i drive those daily and i have driving the 8P a3 for 7 years aswell.
This is all my opinion tho, i work at vw/audi so i think most of it is personal preference.
seriously, go test drive them both if you are in the market for them and try different scenarios, calm driving + some sporty driving aswell.
Definitely mazda 3 offers much better interior quality than the current A3 model and I'm afraid the upcoming new one won't match it neither, as VW group has to adjust its balance sheet for multi-billion diesel gate losses. But it will exceed in the price area for sure. Even the all new A1 with comparable equipment is much more expensive than mazda 3.
Here in Poland where VW didn't have to do shit for people that were cheated on their cars (my friend's father has a fleet of VW cars in his company and they just offered them a free adjustment of the computer and that's all, I guess that paying 4 thousand bucks a month won't get you anything), the pricing is getting less and less attractive. Whenever you're taking any package on the Golf, the price goes up by a thousand bucks for every little thing. You can go over top Mazda 3 and still have features missing.
@@adam145 Well, Angela M. wouldn't let anyone in EU to hurt VW. No surprise British opted for brexit. "Accidentally" many reviewers forget to mention the fact that when you compare apples to apples Mazda is a bargain. Best !
@@jacekkaminski5698 Yep it's a goddamn joke. Any other company would be driven right to the ground and forced to pay billions in fines. Basically what happened in USA.
Meanwhile they're acting like nothing happened and most people don't even know that these events took place.
I had two VWs in my life and I was very happy with them, but not anymore. I was looking at the Scirocco but I'm glad I didn't have the money to get one at the time. I'm not buying a VW group car in my entire life because I'm pretty sure they're trying some other fuckery that just didn't surface yet.
No idea why more people don’t buy these things. Also no idea why car journalists are still obsessed with assessing the prodability of bits of plastic you’ll never touch, nor would they affect your life in any way if you did touch them and they were found to be more or less scratchy than a Golf or whatever. No one actually gives two ferks.
The Mazda 3 is geared for motorway cruising/good mpg ie where small engines are not good and need their turbos.
Also if you prefer more comfort, then change the tires to ones with a thicker side wall. 👍🏼

The rear profile reminds me of a MK2 Astra.
6:14 why are you mentioning the Octavia, it’s a wagon, not a compact car.
It's in the same class as golf focus astra
Though you CAN have the Octavia as an estate, it's primarily a hatchback - it's built on the same platform as the Golf, Leon and A3.
Because the Octavia is in the same class as the Mazda 3. And it's primarily a sedan, not a wagon.
The cd player, to me, is absolutely crucial! I cannot stand cheapo low quality MP3 such as Apple Car Play.
Its the best looking by far
The 6 speed automatic is preferable to the manual IMO. Gives a smoother driving experience. That said, the 6 speed manual gearbox is probably one of the tightest in this segment.

What is a SCOLA SCARLA ?
Skoda Scala
Excellent beautiful looking car
So much plugging of Skoda products… Octavia ‘outstanding’ handling?! Certainly not the (2021) one that I’ve driven. And the Scala really is a Polo equivalent. Not the same class as Mazda 3, surely! But I do agree about Ford Focus as being at the too of this class for ride and handling. I’ve done 24k miles in mine in just over a year. It’s seriously good.
What Car? I only see cheekbones and a pretty rear.
This is a serious contender now if you value quality, reliability and style in your car. The Skodas are good cars but are painfully dull and have looked the same for the last 10 years! The same with the VW Golf. They just keep tarting it up a bit outside and the interior looks as it did in the 90s! This is fresh and different. Good on Mazda.
Better looking than the Audi
The elephant man looks better than an Audi.
It’s not hard to look better than the Audi 😂
Funny how all the car journalists enthuse over this car, yet sales Vs it's rivals from Toyota and Honda are dismal
People who care about design, engineering and quality will look at the Mazda3. People who want a disposable appliance will look at the Skoda. No comparison.
I drive one, it will make you feel like a king.
I miss the lines on it.
Is this really a direct competitor to the Skoda Scala? If I took a shot every time he mentioned the Scala I'd be very drunk right now.
Interesting. The video was uploaded in 2019 but the video is titled 2021? 😅
I'm a Mazda man with over 20 years.. All my cars are Mazda. But to tag the 122 Hp Sky active G as a GT..! 🤔! No no Mazda. 30 years ago the BG 323F GT was a 1.8 with 140 HP..!!!! Smaller engine 30 years ago with more power... This 3 Sky-G don't deserve a GT tag... Call it an LX or GLX or something.
Look great, but too expensive.
Get a demo one with the highest trim levels, much better price than vw and audi's!
No.... get the base model if worried about cost. Still a very nice car. Lower 20s starting price.
The Mazda3 looks very sharp but it has a few problems. Don't be fooled by that swath of thin leather across the dash. Look deeper and you will see that the materials used to build this car are substandard from top to bottom- inside and out. The C pillar is thin as a sheet of foil and even a slight tap in the back will bend it out of shape. Press on it with your finger and you will see. The glove box interior is made out of soda bottle plastic. Open it up and take a look at it. The side seat panels are made out of the thinnest and cheapest plastic and the drivers side panel is known to just fall out. The top of the dashboard on the passenger side is hollow. If you press on it you will see that it just sinks in. In addition the dashboard is known to make some very annoying creaking sounds. The hood prop is a cheap piece of flimsy metal (why didn't Mazda spend $2 dollar more and just use hood struts?]. The leather on the steering wheel is too thin and will flake off in a year. The door arm rest material is too soft and squishy. Getting in and out of the car is for a contortionist due to the odd roof line. Seeing out of the back is almost impossible. Getting in the back seat is annoying. Getting out is even worse. The rear seat latches work sometimes. The rear view mirror is held in with cheap glue and will fall out on a hot day. The air conditioning is weak. Try it out and you will see. When you drive above 60 mph the car feels like its floating and not stable. It doesn't even come with a rear cargo net. Even the rear suspension is cheap. The three year warranty is terrible and the gas mileage is not great. I can go on and on. Mazda did a very interesting job in design but not in execution. The materials are just substandard and for the price they are asking...they should be better. This is a classic case of you are NOT getting what you are paying for. If you don't believe me, go see one for yourself and you will see it's not as good as it looks.
mac daddy Some of the stuff you mention remains to be seen in terms of a test of time. But some of the points... come on. Who cares what plastic composite the glove compartment is made from and what it looks like? Do you drive around with your glovebox open and one hand in it? No. Gas struts for the engine compartment are NOT standard in this class and segment. In fact there are more expensive C segment vehicles that use a bonnet proper. The thin leather and hollow dash are inconsequential because aside from that one time where you might feel it for plushness you’ll probably never touch it again. The forward area of the dash is not designed to be a high traffic and high contact area. It feels like half of what you’re picking fault with area factors affecting “perceived” value and quality and they’re all just smoke and mirrors mate. All manufacturers from Dacia to Bentley make cars to a price and the way it works is that you never get what you pay for because if you did it wouldn’t me a viable business. So many of the things you point out are not unique to this car nor Mazda and in fact are quite common across a range of high volume production vehicles.
@@stephenwakeman3074 You are wrong on all points. Furthermore, underneath the "smoke and mirrors" are even cheaper materials. The seat frame is made of pot metal and the C pillar is thinner than a sheet of foil. Don't believe me? Go and see for yourself. Mazda is calling it 'Premium' and they are charging a 'premium' price, however, it is not a premium car. Please explain why the /ac is weak? Why is there a rattle in the dash that nobody can fix? Why does the rear view mirror just suddenly 'fall out'? Why are the wheel lugs loose from the factory? Why don't the rear seats latch back up into place? Why is the gas mileage terrible for a four cylinder car with cylinder deactivation? etc...etc. As for the glove box, I had to deal with that from day one because there is an annoying rattle coming from it all the time that the dealer could not fix.
@@bigmacdaddy1234 All points? So you DO drive around with glovebox open and your hand in it?
