Clive's technique is unquestionably exceptional, but to me what set's him apart from virtually all other great guitarists of the day is his PHRASING. He plays with a delicacy and touch that is truly unique and wonderful. As an example, I learned the traditional version of the great song, "Mountains of Illinois" by Chet Atkin and Pat Bergeron; that is, until I heard Clive's rendition. It was so masterful, so delicate that I decided to relearn the song with Clive's arrangement. Definitely still a 'work in progress' for me, lol. Kudos to Clive!
What so clearly separates Clive from the vast majority of his contemporaries is not his technique (which is astonishing) but his ability to compose tunes that demand you listen to them more than once. No simple, repetitive, elevator ditties found here.
Beautiful Clive. I had the pleasure of meeting you about 10 years ago when I lived at Dunnet Head Lighthouse. You played there a couple of times and it will always be one of my very happy memories of a magical time.
Clive, this is one of the most beautiful songs ever! And you playing is more than delicate, it is really touching! And there is this special backgroove that seems to be always there. Great important music!
I LOVE it Clive!! Try to play this tune for some weeks now and i can tell you it's a real masterpiece for me! You composed a fingerstyle milestone man! Thank you for this wonderful piece of music - it makes the world a better place. All the best for you and yours! Many greetings from Hamburg, Jimmy
Lovely playing as always. I would love to see a video of you playing Luck For Sale. I've never seen you play it live and no videos exist on the interweb. Just such a fun song!
Beautiful song, beautifully played, thank-you very much! Really hope you can make it to the Pacific Northwest area of North America some time (Washington State or British Columbia); would love to see you perform live :-).
just heard about you. Glad to see the clips with Tommy too. I was blessed to meet him twice and maybe someday I might meet you to. I am trying to find to find about getting the truefire course and waiting to hear if I might get the 25% discount... however if that comes out of your pocket ... I'd rather you have it.
@@CliveCarrollMusic I have an opportunity to pick up a 184 a half decent price, but fear my interface/pre (a Focusrite 2i2) would quickly be a bottle neck to a good recorded sound. What do you connect yours to for this sort of recording? Hope you’re keeping well, David
@@davejinx Hi David, I run the mics into an Apollo x8. Amazing piece of kit - well worth forking out for UA gear. Also, since this clip I've been recording at 24-bit /and 48kHz instead of 44.1kHz The difference is incredible.
You playing here is so intense that you made my cry, Clive. I heard that this tune is dedicated to your wife, a much loved woman, for sure. Is the transcription available from anywhere? Are you planning to tour in Italy, soon? Thanks! (Ohps, I just found out you guitar lesson of the tune :-)
Hi Clive. Love your music. Big fan. Hope your keeping well. Could you tell us about your guitar in this video, or direct us to where we could. All the best, Rory
Hi there Rory. Thanks man. I'm playing an online concert on Sat 28th November (all the links are on my website) and I'll play this piece and talk a little about this guitar for you. Clive.

Tasteful beyond belief. Clive Carroll makes the world a better place, at least he does for me. God bless him.
The total control you have over the tone of your guitar and your skillful technics make you a monster.
Woderful music.
His technique is astonishingly brilliant but so is his feel for the music
Well played sir!
Clive, astonishing technique and - perhaps more importantly - a heartfelt lyricism that always touches me. Thank you!
There’s a lot of darkness in the world right now. This is a thing of beauty and light. Thank you Clive.
My lullaby. Thank you, Clive.
Virtuoso simply beautiful

Hey Clive, What mic are you using here? love the mellowness and low noise
hi Simon, I think it's a Neumann KM184 - Clive lists the mics in the details of his recording of 'The Adventures of Wilfred'
Hi Simon. David (above) is right. It's a KM184 and the playing is quite light to get a warmer feel (I hope!). Clive
@@CliveCarrollMusic Thanks! Oh yes, absolutely wonderful use of right hand position and a lovely melody as well.
