    Henry:
    Do you find the watch prices are lower in person at the Japanese stores; rather than what is advertised on the various Nagano / Ueno/Shinjuku store websites?
    For example, I'm planning to visit Kamekichi and Jack Road's other stores in person later this month, but am curious about in-store prices (excluding taxes and shipping) rather than prices shown on their Japanese websites. I do know there may be a small discount in person, if paid in Yen, rather than a credit card @ some stores.
    I clearly, know about non-negotiation from person to person, and know Japan's fine culture very well.
    Your videos are awesome and educational. Many thanks!

      It’s a great pleasure Mike. Thank you very much for your comments. Your question is also fantastic. I have never actually checked the shop websites. I know Jack Roads has a website because they’re one of the biggest sellers but as far as the other sellers here, I just didn’t think to have a look at their website. I would say an analysis can be done to support this question.. and that could be a purpose of a future video, so I really appreciate your asking. Will put it on my to do list before I plan my next trip to Japan so I can do the comparison work.

      Henry:
      Thank you for your kind response.
      About an hour ago, I sent an email to a reputable high end shop in Nagoya - asking if prices are different btw their website vs in person at the shop.
      Net for this watch biz, it is the same. My hunch now, it is for all shops, unless catch a sale for the day.
      Shops response to me :
      “ The prices shown in our website will be the same in our store, for payments made in cash.
      In case you come to our store, it is possible to pay by credit card but we would like to inform you that a 2.7~5% handling charge would occur if the payment is done by credit card.
      Also, for watches delivered within Japan, we will have to charge the Tax in price.”

      Firstly, I’m wishing you an excellent trip to Tokyo. I know you’re going to love it, specially the sushi if you’re a sushi fan like me .. and of course the Rolex watches are over the top. OK great question regarding the Rolex Batman / Batgirl watch. Inthis video, you will see at least one of these beauties, and it was actually a Batman watch and it was listed with a tax-free price of ¥2.3 million which is about US$15,500. This was a fairly new watch probably a year or two old so this should give you an idea of the going price in Japan. This is the tax-free but I can’t speak to the price difference between the Batman and Batgirl for the different bracelet type. I suspect they’re quite similar. Perhaps you could let me know how you do once you get home from your trip as I’d love to hear how you make out there. Good luck !! .. and safe travels.

    Henry, the prices seem to be competitive, but can you tell if the watches are authentic? Was the store able to make you comfortable that the Rolexes are authentic and not Frankenwatches?

    • @WatchFanHenry
      @WatchFanHenry  7 місяців тому +1

      I am not a expert able to see if the insides of a watch are Frankenwatches or not. So for me, it comes down to purchasing from dealers that I’ve purchased from in the past. Which is what I did this time. If you’re buying a fairly new watch from a reputable dealer, I’d say chances are slim of it being a Franken watch, but like anywhere else it’s buyer beware. If you’re not comfortable with the seller it’s best not to purchase. As I’ve said in other comments, if you deal with the largest of the dealers here that have been in business for decades, risk of issues decline in my opinion.

      This is an excellent time to go to Japan specially for Rolex watch hunting because of the Japanese recession. Anyone know, why are Rolexs, in new condition, so inexpensive compared compared to the secondary markets in Europe and North America?

    • @WatchFanHenry
      @WatchFanHenry  8 місяців тому +1

      My answer would be that Japan gets a disproportionate larger share of Rolex production compared to North America and Europe so the dealers there have more watches per capita, and due to the economic situation in Japan there’s less people clamoring to buy them. so the local market has a larger supply and a smaller demand ratio than in North America and Europe. This would be my guess. It also helps matters that the Japanese Yen is at historic Lows.

    Japan Rolex market is a premium for Asians. There are cheaper sources in Asia. I believe Singapore has come up as a very strong proposition for Rolex since COVID. Japan however does well for having a good curated list (ignoring higher prices).

    • @WatchFanHenry
      @WatchFanHenry  8 місяців тому +3

      This is also the same price for vintage Rolex Submariners as well. It’s a question of supply and demand .. the Japanese have probably imported more Rolex watches over the past 60 years than Europe and the UK combined .. and Japan is in a recession, so there’s not a lot of cash floating around their economy at present. There’s no point in buying a Rolex in the UK, North America, or Europe if you’re heading to Japan, unless you’ve got money to flush down the toilet, this is my personal opinion.

    Funnily enough, MaMaCoo 's replicas are perfect for people who can actually afford a luxury watch. Because in those social circles, it wouldn't matter and everybody would just assume it's real. You have a yacht and a beach house in Tuscany, of course that replica is real. There isn't a millionaire out there going around with a jeweller's loupe to scrutinize their acquaintance's watch. They'll just go "Oh is that a Patek? Nice, I should really get my hands on one of those, they look great."

    Super clones are a massive issue here, as are rebuilds. Be very careful with whatever you buy. When auctions on Yahoo sell for more than those randos in that store, you have to ask why. Also, while they will sell you anything “tax free” in the shop, if you get caught taking it out, you will get fried. You would also of course have to smuggle it in to wherever you are going to avoid full duties being applied. Good thing about Japanese watches is that they are taken care of quite well.

    Will be traveling to Japan soon. I’m really having a hard time convincing myself to buy a watch there. Rolex is the most faked luxury item in the world. I pride myself on the studying of fakes and have caught a couple dealers in my area trying to sell a Super Clone as real. Also, if all these watches were real what extreme over head these business must have. Hundreds of watches times 10k to 30k each. I would like some feedback from others on this topic.
    They say it illegal to sell counterfeits. Laws don’t stop greedy people.

    • @WatchFanHenry
      @WatchFanHenry  7 місяців тому +4

      99 percent of the people watching this video are North American, from the Uk and European. Our culture is not the same as the Japanese. It is my belief that the Japanese culture does not support a mindset of cheating people or buying fakes. It is not in their DNA. If you drop a $100 bill in the Tokyo metro, people will clammer over each other in a race to be the first to return it to you. I have great comfort buying Rolex watches in Japan, and of course you are very free to view it differently. That’s what makes this world interesting. We can freely engage in
      meaningful debate, and can politely have different views. Other people are welcome to jump in too here.
