He doesn’t bring in big numbers on TBS like he used. More people watch Fallon because he is on NBC even though Conan is the best host. Conan has carved himself a more important niche tho with his international travels show
Conan was made for social media. I'm so glad we were able to have him in the age of digital. Love his remotes, love his attitude, love his crew... Just everything. Just an authentic person. I feel he has more freedom since moving to TBS.
Moreover, he is the only talk show host that has properly realized the importance of the digital age, and has adapted his content to meet it. The Johnny Carson format is outdated at this point, but every other host is trying to hang onto it instead of adapting the way Conan has with his podcast, travel show, and half-hour format.
@@waterwind2266 thats because he worked on the simpsons. he deliveloped a “this is probably the future” mindset. he used to write for them. obviously now things have caught up big time, but back THEN? the simpsons was WAY ahead of its time when it came to ideas. but thats my theory tho.
The sad thing is Jimmy Fallon (whom I don't like) is crushing it in the internet space also! Somehow his segments with his high profile A list celebrities, (unlike Conan's Bill Burr & Tim Olyphant) also translate well to the internet! It's just not fair!
Conan always came off as a niche guy with a niche audience... He has remotes and Jordan Schalnsky which is about it. Unlike Fallon,s musical impressions mad libs theater etc ..

Actually there are a small number of guests people love watching on Conan. Norm Macdonald, Bill Burr, Jeff Goldblum, Aubrey Plaza, Timothy Olyphant, Kevin Nealon, Louis CK, Will Arnett are some of them. But yeah, people absolutely don't mind Conan carrying the entire show on his shoulder.

I think I actually loved his show more during the strike, and I've always loved it. It was like his remotes, just go with it and see what happens.
During that strike, diid Conan, Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert end up boxing, or was that a fever dream?
This reminds me of the writer’s strike when Conan just had to make up weeks of shows on the fly. It always turned out great, though.
Considering that Conan's main strength has always been his writing abilities, I'm not surprised. He was the head writer at both SNL and The Simpsons for a reason.

The problem was the movie not being good and as such it underperformed in the box office and barely paid it's budget + advertisement.
Also both leads are MCU stars. That alone makes them Hollywood A-Listers right now.

This is why Conan is head and shoulders above the rest. He basically improvised an entire show with no script and it was one of the funniest and entertaining shows in his 25 years plus career

Conan is at his absolute best when he has to improve and has zero f*cks to give. I still remember his last couple of days hosting the tonight show after he was fired, he just let it loose and it was crazy and amazing.

This episode felt like Craig Ferguson, and I can't explain how high of praise that is.
I miss him.
Conan is a great affirmative force in the late night universe. He loves the genre, he doesn't let politics or the vox populi to touch it, he is a self declared scholar of late night television. I bet he saw all of Craig. And I believe what Craig did with the late night format didn't really make that much of an impression on him as it did on some of us. Because Craig is all about being just one second away from tearing his microport of his body and walking away, Craig is about excercising freedom, Conan is about commitment. But because of his commitment and his knowledge of the entire late night universe including Craig, Conan is able to channel all of that hate for his own position and the miserable conditions he is given.

Unfortunately it could also be a train wreck. Too much risk which is probably why they don't do it. I guess you could pick like ten before the show then do mini interviews to find the best one, then that person would go on.

Oh that is absolutely true, i cant remember where, i think it was in an interview or the documentary but he said that there are times that he cant continue the show because the audience just kept cheering his name. And you can see it especially in the last episode of tonight show

This is why I LOVE Conan. I found Conan during the writers strike. And all the late night shows were struggling. They all kind of made fun of it, but when things don’t go right with Conan. He leans into it. I tuned in every night to see how many seconds /times a penny spinned on his desk. It was insane, non-sensical and hilarious.
Kumail is a cool guy, but Conan is Conan. No one cares about the guest.

Conan is amazing without ANY guests at all. Let's be honest....we all watch for Conan himself anyways, not for the guests.
That's one of the reasons I respect Conan he can make it work and he will just be honest with people, favorite late night host by far.

In the 1990s there was a rapper that didn't show up when he was scheduled to be there. it might have been 50 Cent. The fact that he wasn't there was a running bit.
He said that he is coming and that he is running late. So you had these hot wheels cars driving through the fake city and called it live footage.

at least jimmy fallon contributes in some ways like impressions or playing along in the games, and banter.

I, like everyone else who watches these clips, agree that Conan is the best, and I like seeing other people agreeing with that. What I don’t like is when people comment about how the other late night hosts are unfunny and not good and I see a lot of those comments on almost every Conan video. I think a lot of the hosts out there are very funny and do a good job, and some don’t always land on their feet. But putting them down is not what Conan is about so I wish people could find a way to only praise without hurting others. If you have nothing nice to say, don’t say anything at all.
This made me laugh more than a normal interview with a regular guest! Way to go team Conan!
When this show was 1 hour long, I only watched the first 30 minutes. When it became a 30 minute show, I only watched the first 15 minutes. It is what it is.

NONE of them could put a smile on your face the way Conan does. He is a living comedic genius that hits everyone at their basic core for comedy. I don't think I've watched a single Conan show/clip that didn't have me break out laughing at some point for something Conan said. Iconic.
