The King of all Drums
That makes a lot of sense, since this was recorded before anyone knew who George was. Haha.
Loooool i love it and i love your Hair 😉
Man, you nailed it, and that's what counts. PS: George .. who?
Derek , In this video are you using all arm? Are wrist+fingers , can’t tell lol
Legend
@@KobusGevelspar I think kollias
I WAS RIGHT IN FRONT OF ERIK DURING THIS GIG.....DEREK WAS A MONSTER!!!!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
The most impressive Death Metal drummer I´ve seen, period. And I´ve seen a lot of the best ones. This guy is a machine. Missing Hate Eternal gig in São Paulo/Brazil in 2002. I managed to get into their rehearsal room 1 day before, what a experience.
Derek is the King of wrist blast
unmatched to this day.. there are some insane drummers today in death metal, but the combination of musicality, power and speed.. just insane even 16yrs later.
It would be nice to see him live. He took deathmetal drumming to another level. /,,/
Yup. The King of all Drums!!!
🤘😡🤘
i've been watching derek roddy since i started drumming 2 and a half years ago, he has allways been one of my biggest inspirations, and every time i come back to watch some of his vids, which i ofcourse has seen a hundred times before, they still blow me away....
well said Sir and this is one of my favorite songs you and Hate Eternal did as well as powers that be
Derek among a few other drummers always played their snare at consistent volume no matter what they were playing...this is why you could always hear the snare :p
I understand what you're saying for final mixing purposes of a studio album but still in deathmetal I wouldn't say it is common practice to lower the snare in the mix..atleast not by a lot.
Erik wanted Hate Eternal to be as brutal as possible, and with KOAK I think they were close. But these songs still have groove which many people don't seem to see or hear.
Derek was way before george as a matter of Fact not fiction Derek introduced Nile to george. Derek is like Pete Sandoval whooooooooa strong words
Many people don't know Derek recorded Black Seeds of Vengeance, which was released in 2000, well before the days of George.
@@heyimgoingtoplaysomegames let us not forget his stint with malevolent creation or divine empire.....1997-1999 respectively if my memory serves
@@heyimgoingtoplaysomegames mm ok
when angels mate with man, Derek Roddy is produced as an offspring
Este es uno de los temas más explosivos del Death Metal.
the OG blaster
you need amazing endurance to be able to do this. Derek Roddy = most intense drummer ever.
Derek with Hate Eternal & Tony Laureano with Angelcorpse is peak death metal drumming in my opinion. Fearsome, fast, brutal and brilliantly executed 😎
Good to see someone giving Tony props! He's a monster, especially on In Their Darkened Shrines.
@@DeadGlassEyes oh yes, that's a hell of an album and Tony absolutely murdered it , such a great drummer he is. I was also surprised to see so many comments on videos here with Tony and Megadeth. The consensus seemed to be that people were glad he isn't a full time member because he's just way too good for Megadeth 😁
Inexorable is one of the greatest drum performances in all of metal 👍🏻
Rocking the VILE shirt in San Francisco. Sick dude! 💪🏻
Holy shit!
The goat
This dude probably had no idea he was filming as piece of death metal drumming history right here!
I actually did! It still holds up today!
amazing
Heard a lot of extreme metal drumming through the years, I always rank Derek to be the best among these folks. I think I'm correct.
Total tightness and brutality at the same time......👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I like derek, great drummer
Yeah I saw when Derek Roddy shoplifted Georges Drum clinic of those !
not only is he a kick ass metal drummer, hes also a master of 4 way independance and can play some really sweet grooves including latin drumming and shit like that. theres heaps of vids of him grooving.
Go for it man!
xo.
so fucking sick dude with all the cymbal rhythms, he played the shit outta that song.
Not 1 cymbal ever stops moving. LOL godlike derek. \m/
speed and endurance, what more can you ask?
Goddamn blasting!!! His forearms and wrists BBBBuuuuuuuurrrrrnnniiiinnnngggggg!!
It is a matter of opinion, so I of course highly disagree.
Derek will always be the #1 deathmetal drummer for me.
Me too
George kollias, flo mounier, jason wydau, inferno, hellhammer, eugene ryabchenko
You should, man! It's awesome :D
Like the title says:
Derek Roddy is the King of all Kings!
omfg
the fucking power! its amazing
That hand swirtch is unreal
his left hand is pure sickness! he´s not only controling the stick by his fingers, but blasts the hole time. this must be fucking hard. this man is pure power!
@phildrummer I don't know which comment I made that you're referring to but I'm well aware that Derek uses dynamics in his playing.
I've seen tons and tons of his videos! I'm well aware of how he plays...hell, I even met the guy! :D
dayum
his snare is like thin as a piccalo snare d:
doesnt he usually use like a 6x14 sonar custom brass snare
Maybe theres no originality in blastbeats, but the cymbal accents he is doing is how he conveys a groove and how he makes he blastbeats a bit more creative. Notice in his bombblasts that he is doing china accents that compliment the vocals and the guitars? How is it not musical if it fits the music perfectly?
And watch other videos of Derek, hes the most versatile drummer I've ever seen.
derek roddy is the truth
this song is fucken sick
Are you talking about Derek? If so, check out videos of his channel "MrObsidian" theres some solos of him play ostinatos, grooves etc.
Shit, such endurance!
He plays faster than this on the new Serpents Rise album! :D He's an absolute beast!
@doublebassrox
Hahaha, did you know he played in Nile before George?
It is.
Holy mother of god...
@TheAnnihilator12
I gotcha, all I'm trying to say is that in my opinion (shared by many others), a super loud snare during blast beats isn't always a good thing, or unnecessary at times.
He actually is (granted this song is very fast and near the end of his set, so it may not be as strong as the earlier songs).
Derek is one of those guys who may not have the most stick height in his blastbeats, but hes always been one of the "loudest" blasters in deathmetal.
Check the clinic videos on my page and the "King of all Kings" video from France..theres some good drum shots.
Stick height =/= power.
fucking brutal!
insane..
the best,in the line of that guy from terrorizer
1:50 He doesn't seem to hit the snare very hard there in order to keep the volume consistent between blasts and slow parts, I guess.
you are wrong. he's playing from the hip flexors and they have much more power as the strokes from the ankel.
but it doesn't matter...they are both awesome ;)
i like his vile shirt, because i've the same.
Look at his kit tremble and vibrate when he plays on it. :o
thats a different type of blastbeat, and Derek does use it when he sees fit.
Wow, UA-cam debates never end like this! Personally, I think both bands are great and have awesome drummers. I guess we all have different tastes, though.
when was that clinic?
derek was the best drummer for hate eternal . that sounds... insane.
When that guy said "unreal" he meant it as a good thing ;p
completely agree with you, John Longstreth is another good drummer, as well as Kevin Talley
Which band does Sandoval play for?
thilly gooth
I think this song title refers to Derek.
lol.
@TheAnnihilator12 youve clearly never seen the non death metal content he has uploaded then, which include alot of accents and dynamics
@cthep There is very little room for dynamics in death metal (unfortunately). In blastbeats it's extremely important to be able to hear the snare...ever been to a show and you can't hear the snare at all when a drummer starts playing a blastbeat? This isn't the soundguy's fault..it's the drummer.
A lot of drummers soundcheck by slamming on their snare, or when they play backbeats or slower stuff on the snare they hit extremely hard and then you can't hear it when they blast.
is it a piccolo snare?
Morbid Angel.
Anyone know what snare Derek is using there?
looks like a Pearl Piccolo..
I'm pretty sure he was endorased by sonor back then and used sonor drums
hmmmmm .... i think it needs more blasting ....
RODDY Name Meaning
Irish: of Galway origin, a shortened Anglicized form of Gaelic Ó Rodaigh 'descendant of Rodach', a personal name based on rod 'spirited, lively, strong'. Forms with vowel e derive from a variant, Ó Roidigh.
@doublebassrox maybe the other way around derek played in nile before kollias
2) Stop being closeminded. You don't see me commenting videos of other drummers and saying what they do isn't musical or isn't skilled. And being creative in this genre of music is a bit hard when you play the same beats that drummers have been doing for over 20 years. Derek is one of the most creative when it comes to adding color to blastbeats.
I guess you've got some more growing up to do, especially if you are a musician.
@doublebassrox Actually George is a big fan of Derek..so maybe is the contrary ;)
At times faster than the band lol. This guy was at his peak there. Beast
Such a devastating drummer
@cthep If it gets obnoxious to hear the snare throughout the entire song..then why did Roddy play blastbeats through the whole thing? ;p If the drummer is playing blastbeats and the producer turns down the snare (a lot) then he will most likely piss off the band/drummer :p
forrest!! run!!
Actually i've been to a hate eternal concert. ( and also morbid angel, deicide, cannibal corpse, nile, amon amarth (2x) dew scented, misery index, dying fetus, deeds of flesh, severe torture, hypocrisy ( 3x ) vomitory, exhumed, spawn of possession, prejudice, impious. And that is only the death metal concerts 'ive been to )
is derek roddy sure this song isnt about him? King of all Kings \m/
dude it's a live show. it sounds better on the cd. this is my favorite song from them.
i can't remember when the clinic wuz i think in the summer of 2007 and dereks' feet are just fucked up trained he sed that a few years ago he played more than 62 hours a week
@TheAnnihilator12
I disagree somewhat. I think he is certainly capable of more power, but with Hate Eternal, that would actually be a bad thing since the song is almost entirely blasting. It would get really obnoxious if all you heard was the snare the entire song. Often times producers will pull back the snares during blast beats because it will sit better with the mix.
i said, that his feet, look, like tapping.. and george is a fucking monster for his speed and power, i love both of em... so u dont have to make a bad comment about me.
derek kills that new drummer
Def prefer him over kollias. Roddy's endurance is just a lot more insane and the way he moves all over the fucking kit!
What band does Sandoval play for????????????????? Huh............Blasphemyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
I'm jus kidding..we also have likes of Tony Laureano, Tim teung .nick barker steve asheim, dave suzuki, emil dragutanovic (or whatever that fukin last name is...) marco pitruzella, max kolesne , kevin talley and adam jarvis that are worth a mention!!!! metal drumming is endless there are amazing ...er fans are just lucky to see em in flesh.GOD BLESS THEM ALL!!!
I know he's great! You dont need to bust my balls...But are there any videos of him doing any thing other than blast beats?? Does he ever groove.
This aged well uh
It would be impossible as well.
Man, Derek was as fast as George in those days, too bad he dousn't blast like that much anymore. But Derek says that he sacrifices speed for power, and with how he blasts, well... his power level reads over 9,000...
@crusha717 maybe, but the only difference is that george makes it look good.
how is one-footing a blast lazy? two-footing a traditional blast is lazy.
@doublebassrox lolwat
he he skipped the cymbals all the f**ing time that would be 10 stars
thats gotta be 260 bpm!!
*270
king of all kings is 265bpm, the faster he gets on the album, on I monarch there's Sons of darkness at 270bpm. but for speed, Nile are really brutal, up to 280bpm in the 3 last albums
Drink a bunch of beer and watch this. You almost want to puke......in the best fucking way!!!!!!!
