You are absolutely right. It doesn't matter if you love the Matrix or hate it. In order to understand the entire story watching all three movies is required. Like Lord of the Rings, each movie in the Matrix trilogy only tells one third of the story. In order to properly criticize the Matrix all three movies must be watched.
Definitely watch 2 and 3! 2 goes a lot more in depth and explains the creation of the Matrix. When they explain it it will make you think even more that this could actually be our reality. Plus the fight scenes are great. Trinity is one of the most badass female characters of all time!
Finally! Reactors who don't think it's True Love's Kiss bringing Neo back to life 😅 I first saw this film in 1999 when it came out, and then multiple rewatches with friends over the following years. No-one I know ever thought it was the kiss itself bringing him back to life; that seems to have been a post-00's Disney influenced thing which has suddenly become a popular opinion with people only watching the film now. My take on it was always that his subconscious reasserted itself, finally recognised the Matrix for what it was and realised that death in the was simply another digital rule that could be broken or bent. Perhaps Trinity speaking to him made a difference and triggered this - the brain remains active for some time after the heart stops (which constitutes clinical death) and coma patients have been proven to hear things even when not awake - but the kiss itself was nothing more than symbolic IMO.
44:53 Tooter Turtle in his 1960-61 cartoon Would cry "Mr. Wizard" for help! Since he always wound up botching the jobs that Mr. Wizard sent him on. So when he got in trouble, he'd cry out "Help, Mr. Wizard!", it invoked the powers of Mr. Wizard to get him home. Mr. Wizard complied, with his magical chant: "Drizzle, Drazzle, Druzzle, Drome, time for this one to come home!" I loved the show when I was a kid!
I really enjoyed that, truly, you are the first reactors I've seen understand that when Neo "dies" and comes back alive after hearing Trinity that it was because his brain still was able to process it. Folks tend to think "his heart stopped, so this is just a magic "truly love's kiss" filler" or open ended "how did that work?". What, exactly, do people think CPR is for?
I appreciate that the Oracle explicitly references the concept of a self-fulfilling prophecy during her meeting with Neo. This movie didn't try to pretend they were doing anything revolutionary with that. They called it out right from the jump.
Niamh also said something here that hadn't occurred to me, that any of the other "potentials" not only could've been The One AS FAR AS THEY KNOW, but they could've ended up being The One IN ACTUALITY if Neo didn't quite make it, like if the sentinels got there a couple minutes earlier or a bullet richocheted the wrong way during the chase. Like, it's not about "who was born with The One powers", it's that enough people are born with that strength of mind to resist the Matrix to that extent, that it's only a matter of time before someone fulfills the prophecy.
Now the way the second movie describes it, that doesn't sound like it's the case - it seems pretty clear there is a very specific nature of the powers that is truly invested in a specific person and would even be different from other iterations of The One. But you could probably still bend that explanation enough to still fit the "many could've been The One" interpretation, and in any case it's an interesting way to look at the first movie.
Guns. Lots of guns. Do you remember it from John Wick? The Oracle told him that he was waiting for something, maybe a new life. He died and came back as the one. Agent Smith was waiting for him because he remembered that was the room Trinity was in at the beginning of the movie. I worked in the theater when this movie came out. I saw Morpheus fight Neo six times a day!
I was only 14 in 1999.. I was exposed to cable TV only in 1997, and this was the first English movie I watched at the theater.. I remember my cousin brothers(they're siblings; they were 19 and 20 back then), dragging me with them to the theater even when I wasn't interested in watching this in 1999.. But by the 3rd installment, it was me who had to drag those two(because they were through with studies and had jobs by the time Matrix: Revolutions released).. That's how impactful these movies were back then on my younger self..
The Oracle never told Neo that he wasn't the one, those were his words. She told him "you've got the gift but it seems like you're waiting on something". Basically saying to him that he is the one but he hasn't manifested that potential yet.
I remember walking out at 10 pm on opening night. Jaw hanging down I checked if there was any tickets left for the 10:30 showing. None . Then I got real mad and came back for the first showing the next day.
All of the main characters took months of martial arts training because the action sequences depended on seeing rhe actors doing things close up. If they use stunt doubles they cut it so you can't see their faces,
You Guys gave me more insight to residual self image ( it's what you think about yourself) 20 something years and I'm still learning new things in this movie.
Fun facts. The matrix was the first big budget American feature film to be made at Australia's Fox Sudios. Many of the scenes were filmed in Sydney and Melbourne, so it's extra fun to watch as an aussie. The lead Agent is played by Australia's own Hugo Weaving, famous for his role in priscilla queen of the desert. Many. Other famous Aussie faces are in smaller roles. The Matrix movies put Australia on the map as a filming destination. Keanu loved the chance to live in Australia again for the movies, as he grew up here with his family from the age of 2, moving to Canada when he was 7. H said at the time it felt like a homecoming
@Coyzy Movie Night One of the biggest things most people miss with this particular movie is exactly how Neo becomes the One. The Oracle tells him, "Sorry kid. You got the gift, but it seems like you're waiting for something. Your next life perhaps." During the rest of the movie until the end, he demonstrates little to say that he definitely is the One. Only when Neo is killed by Agent Smith at the door to his escape, then resurrected by Trinity's voice, does Neo transition into his next life and become the One, and gaining all the powers to go with it.
43:28 No, the guns can't just magically reload just because they're "not real". They said before that some rules can be bent, and others can be broken...they are still in a world that is based on rules.
Great reaction! Y'all made me smile a lot 😊 29:52 I appreciate how strongly you reacted to Mouse's death. He's low-key my favourite crew member and it always made me so sad that he was the first to die. At least he went down fighting.
The way I see it, to be "The One" it's not enough to simply be born with an unusually strong mind. As we saw with the kids, lots of people have "the gift," but the gift of a strong mind alone won't lead you to the unwavering self belief required to bend and break the rules of The Matrix. It was Neo's experiences, particularly in the third act of the film, that allowed him to reach that level of self belief. Experiences like having Morpheus believe so strongly in him. Experiences like having The Oracle confirm that he has the gift. Experiences like when faced with no time to think, no time to doubt himself, he instinctually moved faster than anyone Trinity had ever seen before. Experiences like leaping from a chopper to catch Morpheus mid-air and then deliver him safely to a rooftop. Experiences like securing his grip on the cable and using it to miraculously save Trinity from an exploding helicopter. Experiences like fighting Agent Smith in the subway and surviving when nobody had before. And finally, the experience of Trinity telling him she loved him and that The Oracle told her that the man she fell in love with would be The One. No one experience was enough, instead it was this accumulation of experiences that helped Neo grow his self belief and transformed him from being one with the potential, to him fulfilling his potential and becoming The One. This brings me to the fact that a lot of people are confused by what The Oracle tells Neo - if she's always right, how can Neo be the one when she told him he wasn't. In the film it's explained away when Morpheus tells Neo that The Oracle only tells you what you need to hear, but that's only half the story. When The Oracle told Neo he wasn't The One, she was right because he wasn't The One..... until he was, until the moment he reached such a level of self belief that he stopped being simply someone with The Gift and became The One. Of course, this was something she eluded to him having the potential to do when she told him that he had the gift, but seemed to be waiting for something. Also, she was right when she said either Neo or Morpheus would die. Neo did die..... she just left out the part about him coming back to life. Anyway, thanks for a great reaction to a great movie. P.S. I first saw this film maybe a week after it first released here in Australian cinemas at the age of 17yrs with a group of school friends. I remember walking out into a dark night, the surrounds lit by the street lights, and saying to them, "F_ck me, this could all be The Matrix." It was pretty mind altering since the concept that we could all be living in a simulation really hadn't permeated the public consciousness like it has today, in no small part due to this film. For me it really was and remains quite a unique movie experience, one where it seemed my thinking had been forever changed in some fundamental way..... plus the aesthetics were just really f_cking cool, haha.
27:36 I saw a breakdown of all three films that had some really cool theories pieced together about things, this scene being a key moment, the Oracle gives Neo a "Cookie" which he eats... and "Cookies" track your visits and preferences to various websites - really cool bit of information as you watch the other two films.
Conspiracy Theory: it wasnt Trinity kiss that made him The One. It was the fact he had to die, in order to be reborn as the One. That IS what the Oracle cryptically said," you are not the one neo...(Then blah blah blah. Lol) But then says rather disappointedly " u are waiting for something...another life maybe". She knew exactly how to play him. Yall need to watch matrix w and 3 now ... And present your findings lol
The Wachowskis, along with Tom Tykwer (director of Run Lola Run and Perfume: The Story of a Murderer), also directed Cloud Atlas (2012), starring Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Hugo Weaving (Agent Smith in The Matrix), Hugh Grant, Keith David, Susan Sarandon, and so many more you'll know. Cloud Atlas is an epic science fiction film that has multiple plots occurring during six eras in time. The cast members perform multiple roles in these time periods. Critics were polarized when it came out and it got nominated for awards in various "best" and "worst" categories, but I love it and have seen it quite a few times. I think it's time has come. Highly recommend.
What a reaction! You two are the most perceptive people who I've ever seen react to this movie. You understood what was going on right from the start and your hunches were right on the money! It's so unfair that you make such a handsome couple. 😄 The other films in the series are good, but get a bit self-indulgent with their own cleverness in the fight/chase sequences and they drag on just that bit too long. You'll enjoy them though, as I did. 👍
Someone interviewed a Neo Matrix virus that blanked your computer screen....displayed "Wake up Neo", then ejected your CD rom drive and said "Here, a cup holder for your coffee." lol They got me.
I would HIGHLY recommend watching The Animatrix before the next films. It's an anthology of short films that begin adding lore to the franchise, rounding out the world -- and some of the shorts introduce new characters and plot points that lead in directly to the sequels. Also, during the making of The Matrix 2, extra scenes were filmed and used as cut scenes for a video game. I found a collection of those scenes on youtube. They're a nice bonus to watch after seeing Matrix 2, kind of like deleted scenes in DVD extras.
Trinity shooting an Agent on the roof ("dodge this..." moment) is the first time a human is known to have killed an Agent. And it wasn't Neo. Trinity also kills an agent in the 2nd movie (falling out the building, she hits the agent and we see his blood 3 times - and he hits the ground). I can't be 100% sure but by the end of the series, I think Trinity has "killed" more agents than Neo.
a blink and you miss it line is the random guy at the door of Neo's apartment who refers to him as 'my own personal Jesus Christ' (for getting him the stuff on the disc..) .. aaaand that's kind of important for the entire setting :D
Apart from anything else, it has one of the best uses of music at the end there. This film is an absolute classic. The other two were always going to struggle to match it. There are some decent parts in them, but overall...
Please watch *Memento* starring Guy Pearce, Joe Pantoliano (Cypher) and Carrie-Anne Moss (Trinity), also watch *Arlington Road* starring *Jeff Bridges* (The Big Lebowski) and *Tim Robbins* (The Shawshank Redemption).
The stuntman picking up the gun and shooting it while doing a cartwheel went on to direct the John Wick movies. Also NEO is the letters in ONE rearranged.
37:12 if you watch one of the John Wicks, I can't remember which one but either 3 or 4, he says the line in John Wick that he said in the Matrix. "Guns. Lots of guns."
I had something that was beyong a dream feeling real. I once had a dream so influential that when I awoke, I actually couldn't remember if it what I had seen had actually happened or not; it was like the dream had implanted a memory. I couldn't tell if it was a dream or a memory that I had forgotten. It took me a good 10 mins to finally piece it together. As I was recalling the dream, I realized that one of the details that had to do with the timing of events was off and that what I dreamt couldn't have been real because where the dream took place didn't exist in the right time period that the dream took place in. Basically, the building that I was in wasn't build until after I had dated this girl that was in the dream. That's how I figured it out. It was incredibly bizarre.
I somewhat believe in reincarnation. And the possibility that after we die we can be born again in another time period. Even the past. Sort of like the Matrix being that we're all just in a simulation anyway. Therefore time is just an illusion. Which would fit your dream/reality experience.
This was a great reaction to one of my all time favorite movies! Yes, mark1354 already exemplified it, but you saw the implications of the movie more than many others! Loved it! Just one thing, I would like to add. I hope you don’t mind me doing it - and this is is not related to the movie, but your production value. You’re using Blue Yeti microphones. And you point them towards you like end address microphones. But the sensitive end of them is, where the gain knob is located. That’s why the sound of you has such a distant quality to it. Of course, after putting them upright, they will be further away from you, so you’ll need to put them closer to make up for it. But in the end, you will be surprised by the added clarity and presence!
Oracle "You have the gift, but it looks like you're waiting for something." Neo "What?" Oracle "You're next life. Who knows." Never occurred to me to combine that with the Oracles statement about Morpheus or Neo dying.
Extremely impressed with you two for realising why Neo came back to life after Trinity kissed him. You are the only pair that got it. Her kiss gave him the stimulous to realise that he wasnt actually dead, so the matrix’s “illusion” on the brain making it believe it is all real, became undone. What this technically means is that you can have someone on the ship bitch slapping people awake after they flatline in the matrix but yeah…
Great reaction to such an amazing movie. I really hope you watch the sequels (Only 2 and 3). Despite the bad rep they have they are in fact just as good as the first one and logically continue and conclude the story that was in the heads of the creators from the start. P.S. In the original script and concept the machines were using the human brains as a neural network that enabled them to evolve and sustain themselves. They were able to harness the full 100% potential of the human brain instead of the 5% humans normally use. They were able to harness the power of the full potential of the human brain but were not able to replicate it mechanically which forced them to keep humans alive for their brains. The studio thought that concept was too complex and they were forced to dumb it down to batteries.
I suspect that a large part of the qualification to be a studio exec is a consistent ability to grossly underestimate an audience. It also seems like they tend to bring in some of the dumbest people they can find as test audiences.
@@0okamino True.. The original concept was so much better. Some of the same concepts still remain like "the power of the mind" but in the original concept it was much better explored and properly set up.

Mr. Wizard complied, with his magical chant: "Drizzle, Drazzle, Druzzle, Drome, time for this one to come home!" I loved the show when I was a kid!
oh nice Lore egg! Thanks, never knew!
I’d forgotten about that completely!
I watched this as a 16 year old kid at the drive in movies. It haunted my thoughts for years after. The next ones are totally worth a watch.
Found you guys on your dune reaction , so good! It's more fun watching another couple react. More fi of the sci variety please.
they're actually cousins. 🙂
@@YoureMrLebowski k 😂
Every Keanu Reeves movie is worth watching at least once.
This includes Johnny Mnemonic which no-one today seems to recall.
"Constantine"
One more run, Johnny.
Dangerous Liasons
Don't forget about the Bill and Ted movies, Much Ado About Nothing and My Own Private Idaho
I assume losing your memories of Johnny Mnemonic is intentional :)
What, exactly, do people think CPR is for?
the Agents in the Matrix are sentient programs, meaning they have a mind of their own...
This was the first movie I ever purchased on DVD. Nearly 25 years later and I still have that same DVD.
Me too, and back then I had to watch it on my computer, because I didn’t have a stand alone DVD-player.
So much fun! You are my favourite reaction-channel, hands down. Looking forward to see many more!
This is my second time watching you guys. This was super fun. Olá de Portugal. I just subscribed and look forward to your future efforts.
If they use stunt doubles they cut it so you can't see their faces,
Hands down my favorite movie of all time
One of if not the best reactions to this movie love this good job.
You Guys gave me more insight to residual self image ( it's what you think about yourself) 20 something years and I'm still learning new things in this movie.
"The woman in red, what's she going to do" lol
Come for Matrix fun. Subscribed for the accent.
"Seems like you're waiting for something... Your next life, maybe"
What a film❤
Such a great reaction! I´v re-lived the Matrix with you, thanky you!
This was a great reaction.
This is the first time I’ve seen you guys.
New sub.
Y'all made me smile a lot 😊
29:52 I appreciate how strongly you reacted to Mouse's death. He's low-key my favourite crew member and it always made me so sad that he was the first to die. At least he went down fighting.
If you're on a Keanu Reeves kick, you need to check out "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure" and "Speed."
I remember seeing this in theaters when it came out with my step brother, we were obsessed. I hope you watch the others.
Keanu Reeves was also in a bunch of earlier movies. A similar one to this style would be a cyberpunk movie called Johnny Mnemonic from 1995.
Sure hope you get around the the rest. You are in for a wild ride! Excellent reaction!
Point Break. Speed. Bill and Ted.
Brilliant. Love you guys. Thanks for sharing your reactions.
Awesome. Hope you guys do the whole trilogy...Animatrix is an excellent supplement before Episode 2 or 3 too!
The Oracle offering cookies is brilliant
*alluded
@@mysteronix Haha, yes indeed, allude not elude.
Masterpiece. Great reaction : )
27:36 I saw a breakdown of all three films that had some really cool theories pieced together about things, this scene being a key moment, the Oracle gives Neo a "Cookie" which he eats... and "Cookies" track your visits and preferences to various websites - really cool bit of information as you watch the other two films.
lol so cute she mixed up the pills because at first I thought "wtf?". Thank god she realized her mistake :)
43:21 "can't you just magically refill?" -Niamh
i'm not sure about the "rules" of the matrix.
the green text that rolls over the screen are Japanese recipes 😀
Is this an extended version? There's a few moments I don't remember.
Someone interviewed a Neo Matrix virus that blanked your computer screen....displayed "Wake up Neo", then ejected your CD rom drive and said "Here, a cup holder for your coffee."
lol
They got me.
I got The Matrix for my birthday... on VHS! lol
Keanu became a 3 degree black velt or you could say there movies were training for John Wick?!
Please react to Rush hour 1,2 and 3 starring Jackie Chan and Chris tucker. You will absolutely enjoy them
I would HIGHLY recommend watching The Animatrix before the next films.
"There's a city? Can we go?" That's for the next movie.
Please watch *Memento* starring Guy Pearce, Joe Pantoliano (Cypher) and Carrie-Anne Moss (Trinity), also watch *Arlington Road* starring *Jeff Bridges* (The Big Lebowski) and *Tim Robbins* (The Shawshank Redemption).
I've watched this movie many times I know about the oracles cookies, and neo is one, but just realized room 303 is used twice.
46:53 - No coincidence that sparks fly in the backround during this scene
Maybe the best reaction I have ever seen!
The stuntman picking up the gun and shooting it while doing a cartwheel went on to direct the John Wick movies. Also NEO is the letters in ONE rearranged.
Awesome reaction of my favorite The Matrix movie!!!!!!😊😊😊😊😊😊
The only Matrix movie if you ask me.
37:12 if you watch one of the John Wicks, I can't remember which one but either 3 or 4, he says the line in John Wick that he said in the Matrix. "Guns. Lots of guns."
Great reaction guys! 😊❤
great reaction! you must watch the next two!
Gloria Foster (the Oracle) died halfway through the filming of the second movie.
Red Hair, Porcelain skin, Irish accent! That's the Female TRINITY right here! 😂❤
He also accepted the cookie xd
Great react - keep’em coming!
So GREAT to hear Beautiful Irish accents on UA-cam! We need MORE Irish people! Create channels please! American accents are soooo ubiquitous!😂
Oracle "You have the gift, but it looks like you're waiting for something."
Neo "What?"
Oracle "You're next life. Who knows."
Never occurred to me to combine that with the Oracles statement about Morpheus or Neo dying.
This movie blew our minds back in the day, with no hint of a sequel. Quite often I wish it had stayed that way.
After you've seen what you want to see from the Matrix Franchise (personally I'd skip the 4. movie), watch Dark City. It has the very same feel.
She said it was like love no one can tell you if you're in it. She told him no one can tell you if you're the one you just have to believe it
In my honest opinion, the greatest movie to ever be created.
great reaction and good editing
Thank you 💙💙💙
Awesome reaction to an awesome movie. Well done 😃
This girl is sharp as a knife, she’s on the ball in first five minutes.
Irish gang! You have mo idea the excitement I feel when finding irish youtube channels! Its almost jaring like our accent doesn't belong on youtube
