In the original script the machines weren’t using the humans as batteries. They were using the human brains as supercomputers. So the Matrix is really all in our minds because our brains are what’s keeping the Matrix programming running.
It makes more sense too - just burning the biomass you need to feed the human bodies would generate more power than feeding the humans and then harvesting electricity from them. I read it was changed to the battery explanation because the suits thought regular people wouldn't get the idea of a distributed computer made of millions of human brains.
yes and then they decided the average person wouldn't be able to understand what that meant because computers weren't that implimented into society at the time so they changed it to batteries!
I don't know how many times I've seen the movie, I watched it 4 or 5 times on the big screen when it came out, I thought I knew all the details. I've never noticed *that* . Thanks for the info!
@@ichmeiner4531 Because it's untrue. There were some identical twins cast to play extras, but it was not every single extra in that scene. The majority of the doubles you see are just one actor but different camera shots so it looks as though they're walking past two or more times.

Fast forwaer to 2016, I moved to Australia, was living in Sydney and one day I was walking through a nice place in the city called Martin Place and it hit me! I was walking by the very same fountain where Neo saw the woman in the red dress! I felt like I was in the Matrix! I did a little digging and sure enough, that's where it was filmed!

The "Mr Wizard! Get me the hell out of here!" is a reference to the old cartoon "Tooter Turtle" where a hapless turtle has a wizard friend (who is a lizard) who grants him wishes (to be famous, a hero, etc) and every time he realizes it's not what he wants. He shouts out ""Help me, Mr. Wizard, I don't want to be X any more!" (where X is the thing he's been turned into) and comes back to reality, learning the lesson that it's better to just be himself. Also, the "come here" hand gesture is a reference to old Bruce Lee movies.
Neo wouldn't have believed the Oracle if she told him he was the One. But she told him that he has to choose between Morpheus dying and him dying, which set up the condition for him to become the one. (And she has also set up those conditions by what she told Morpheus and Trinity.) I think the key to becoming the One was also that Neo had to believe that he couldn't die in the Matrix (or that he could be revived). He had to disconnect his mind from the expectations of how things worked in the real world. If he could do that, he couldn't be killed, and once he knew that then the Agents no longer had any power over him. Agent Smith was interesting because he had human personality. No machine would really care about all the things he says to Morpheus. So it opens up the question of is Agent Smith really a program or has he become at least partially human? Notice the other Agents do not exhibit any personality.
The Oracle suggests that he wouldn't have knocked down the vase if she didn't mention it, which also implies that he wouldn't have become the One if she told him he would. It's like the opposite of a self-fulfilling prophecy, a self-defeating one. So yes, her prophecies to each one of them are set up in a way to lead them to make the right choices at key moments. Another interesting thing that I haven't seen mentioned is that the agents are actually extremely constrained in their design. They don't seem to have the full control over the Matrix that a conventional administrative program would. Instead they can only access the world using a human interface like everyone else. They are limited to using the 5 senses and human bodies to interact with the world, with no way to override that experience besides jumping from one body to another. We see this when Agent Smith has to put in his earpiece to find out about Neo and Trinity's attack. I don't know if this choice was fully intentional or just for aesthetic reasons, but it might explain why Agent Smith is overwhelmed by the sensory experience of being human that he has been forced to endure.
Hugo Weaving (Mr Smith, V, Elrond) is superb in the crime drama The Interview (1998). Dark City (must be director’s cut) came out just before The Matrix, and it has some extreme similarities and extreme differences. It’s a worthwhile watch if you love The Matrix (even if it doesn’t have the martial arts). It stars Rufus Sewell, Jennifer Connolly, Kiefer Sutherland and William Hurt.
The Oracle told him that he had the gift and maybe he is waiting for a new life. She told him that he would die and then become the one. He did die! And he did become the one in a new life so to speak.
what about smith? he was "born" in the matrix and he had the ability to change the matrix after he was reborn when neo invaded his body and destroyed him. but the code of smith remained and possibly was overwritten with some of neo's code, making smith the "ONE" not Neo. .303 was the standard British rifle and machine gun caliber pre-WWI to shortly after WWII, but that probably isn't what they mean. 303 was also a particular code mean the information or whatever you were looking for had been moved and you need to look elsewhere for it. That is more fitting since this is what they did in that room, by coming into and leaving the matrix from the phone in the room. Also makes you think that since only hard lines worked to come and go, interesting that we have been going wireless do much lately.
There is that and also that the first time we see 303 is with Trinity (3). Neo (1) lives in apartment 101 (which is also a reference back to the book 1984).
Y'all have to watch the whole series, it is a great trilogy. It is so cool how she really caught on to everything. Nick, your girl is just so cool her expressions and comments were so fun. You guys are a great reacting couple.
If you’re doing the Matrix now, a reaction to the “The AniMatrix” would be greatly appreciated! There’s some quality Matrix content there and IMO it’s the best thing in the series after the first movie
Back when surround sound systems were just starting to get really big, the helicopter scene was used over and over again as a demo to help stores like Fry's and BestBuy promote their products and sales. It was an awesome time to be a video and sound tech geek.
1. So the needles were to stimulate his muscles since he had never used them before either. 2. The reason for the agents being able to detect where they were when they were leaving the matrix after saving Morpheus. Morpheus answered this when he took Neo in the training program with the women in the read dress. Everyone who is connected to the matrix can become a agent. So they can just can just see through everyone (The bum saw them and the agent detected it.). That is also why they couldn't tell Neo the truth till after being disconnected. He would have turned into an agent.
When Hubsy and I play certain video games we joke about strapping up like we are going to save Morpheus. Also if you like Agent Smith give Priscilla Queen of the Desert a try 😊❤
The theory about how we might live in a simulation had been around since the 1960s, maybe even earlier. Also there are some weird stories around the world about people witnessing 'glitches' in real life. Are we living in a simulation? If so, does it matter? Something to think about, friends 😂
Lol I remember taking an older friend of mine to see this movie who was (is) smarter than me and has read and knows much more than me... when it was done, his mind was very much not blown... he wasn't complaining or anything, but it was kinda... "oh, another thing like that..."
I'm sure someone already mentioned this, but the green color you mentioned is always present when they are in the Matrix, but not when they are in the real world. Just a visual clue to differentiate between the two worlds.
Remember this was produced by the same people that did V for Vendetta 😊 You can tell by the same style of fighting and use or slow motion! ❤ Probably why they cast Hugo Weaving again. 😊
I'm, I guess what others consider "old" but, I actually saw this movie when it 1st came out. In the movie theater. And I hated Sci-fi movies at the time. But when I watched it Nick, I can totally understand why it's one of your faves. I loved it so much I bought the DVD trilogy version of it when it came out and yes, I still have it today. I love that you and "The Mrs." 🤭 🤗 watched this together, it was too precious. You guys definitely belong together and I'm here for it. After watching this with you guys, now I want to watch part 3. 😃
I wanted to see it so bad back than, but none of my friends wanted to see it as they did not like sci-fi movies. Still regret it to this day to just going to see it on my own.
I love it when the oracle gave him a cookie inside the computer system.. cookies are used to save information in a browser when u visit a homepage 🙂 I think the rage against machine song has been used somewherre else, perhaps in the movie Blade? At least the same type of music Anyway, I really hope u would react to "The man from earth", preferrably with ur gf, u are gonna love it 💗
There are a few ideas on why room 303 is used very often, to begin with Neo lives in 101 (and he is The One), the first time we see room 303 is with Trinity (so 3), much of the music in the movie is made with the Roland TB-303 (which is legendary in electronic music) and status code 303 is used on the web to redirect you to a different web page (and in a way people where redirected from the matrix to the real world). Then there is room 101 in the book 1984 where that room is the final step in brainwashing towards submission.
After the Lord of the Rings, this trilogy is my second masterpiece! They should have given oscar to Hugo Weaving for acting the most dangerous villian ever in movie history perfectly!
1:54 The Matrix "rain" includes Japanese katakana but squished to half-width (e.g., カ instead of カ) along with fixed-width English letters and numbers. Also, a lot of the characters are reversed, the idea being that someone is looking through a window/mirror into the Matrix's reality. 16:56 There are a _lot_ of theories about these movies, and one popular one is that their "real world" is actually just another layer of simulation. I don't believe that, though. Oh, and "the desert of the real" is from the book _Simulacra and Simulation;_ early in the movie Neo uses a hollowed-out copy of the book the hide cash and discs.
Yeah, with the prevalence of VR and more realistic looking games I think most ppl should be able to get the idea pretty quickly. Also, with that idea that you might be stuck in a simulation (a twist on the brain in a vat) getting popular in more recent years, this concept is more well known. When it came out though it would have been mind blowing, especially with computer graphics being nowhere near as good as it is today and without the "always online" culture we have today. It is pretty amazing they were able to come up with this regardless, but especially for how early they came up with it.
Great reaction! I'm 41 years old and it took me until the past year and a half to watch the Matrix movies. I actually didn't think I'd like the movies, but I have to say I was extremely wrong lol. Regarding the concept of free will, I don't believe in the concept. I think we are limited to only 2 choices: you do or you do not. If you do, the next 2 choices will be down that road; if you do not, the next 2 choices will be down a different road. Therefore, even though it seems you might have an infinite number of choices, the reality is it boils down to only 2 choices. What are y'alls thoughts?
I love that you are on the Matrix journey, but PLEASE watch The Animatrix when you finish or at least before 'Reloaded', as it adds so much more context to the Matrix.
Still one of my favorite action films of all time. I want to be Trinity, lol. (She's one of the few Funko pops I own, because she's so awesome and I love her.)
Adding onto the fun facts, the character switch was called that because she was female outside the matrix, but switched to male while inside. Not sure why they changed it though.
The Wachowskis had to have been influenced by Neuromancer by William Gibson, classic sci fi novel from 1984 - it had humans with the ability to literally plug into a virtual world. Very seedy stuff going on in that world... Anyway, always fun seeing a first time reaction to this film. I was in my early twenties when this came out. Loved it so hard! Many years later I made my much younger sibling watch it. Afterwards he said he was questioning his very existence. Perfect. The Wachowskis are great. Sense 8 Netflix series is another Wachowski something you should watch if you haven't. This film was revolutionary in its cinematography etc. Iconic film. Great reaction.
Ghost in the Shell. Not the 2.0 version. Is the movie to recommend that heavily inspired this. Other things also inspired it but the most "DNA" so to speak comes from Ghost in the Shell.
When someone watches The Matrix, I like to ask if they have seen Memento. That is another movie that has you question reality and it features some of these actors in interesting rolls.
The absolute best thing the machines made was Smith and the Oracal, and they cranked him out in the first interation according to Smith himself. I mean he and only a few other old programs from the 1st even made it this far.
The oracle told him that he had received the gift but that he was not yet ready because he didn't really believe in him. Your next life maybe... she told him! And in fact, Neo had to die and be resurrected to finally be the one. The Oracle is absolutely right.
Matrix war my minimum 14th Keanu Reeves movie. I watched a minimum of 31 movies with him and played a game with him. (the newest matrix, john wick and bill & ted are on my todo list) // trinity (3) was in room 303 at the beginning and neo (one) in 101. the last room 303 neo was on his way back to trinity.
Another movie starring Hugo Weaving is the adventures of Priscilla, queen of the desert. He was a bad ass in the matrix, he was a drag queen in Priscilla. Literally opposite ends of the scale.
One of the late 90s movies that was ever evolutionary for the time. RIP for the main mean guy also played in Lord of the rings movie and others...🙏🙏🙏💖💖💖 keep safe all 🥰🙏

There is that and also that the first time we see 303 is with Trinity (3). Neo (1) lives in apartment 101 (which is also a reference back to the book 1984).
7:48 to 7:57 - The road to the left goes from empty to full to empty again in quick succession. Haha
Y'all have to watch the whole series, it is a great trilogy. It is so cool how she really caught on to everything. Nick, your girl is just so cool her expressions and comments were so fun. You guys are a great reacting couple.
Thank you!
Trilogy. I see what you did there
Everybody knows "The Animatrix" is the 4th and final movie to be watched in the franchise 😉.
You should check out Serenity.
Yes! Serenity and the whole Firefly series. Only one season, but it was epic.
Neo accepted the oracles cookies.
I'm showing my age here, but this is the first movie I ever watched on DVD (as opposed to VHS). It looked so amazing on our 35 inch "box" TV lol
I watched it 5x in the cinema when it was first released... it's a masterpiece of filmmaking.
2 beautiful people that love each other. wonderful.
When Hubsy and I play certain video games we joke about strapping up like we are going to save Morpheus. Also if you like Agent Smith give Priscilla Queen of the Desert a try 😊❤
I wish anybody reviewing this in the lobby of the hotel. They walk into your the builders building, would play the music cause that really makes it.
Saw this in theaters when it came out when I was 18., Defendently something different and ahead of its time with the CGI and imagery.
'The Matrix is like the network.' 'The Matrix is like the network.' uh-oh, deja vu....
1:08:40 - AGENT SMITH, V, ELROND, RED SKULL, MEGATRON. All were portrayed by Hugo Weaving.
Such a great movie such a great reaction thanks!
Usually people that react to the Matrix recognize Hugo Weaving as "Hey it's Elron from Lord of the Rings!"
Every time I walked into the office full of cubicle farms I mumbled “there is no spoon” just to make it ‘til noon.
Highly recommend Ghost in the Shell (1995) film as well as stand alone complex (gits series) for context as to what inspired this film
GitS Second Gig is also good, and not far off from what the Matrix is about.
You guys gotta watch the remaining 2 movies. I would love to see her reaction to the rest.
Fun reaction, keep going. All are great
I'm sure someone already mentioned this, but the green color you mentioned is always present when they are in the Matrix, but not when they are in the real world. Just a visual clue to differentiate between the two worlds.
great reaction! excited for the next one
Remember this was produced by the same people that did V for Vendetta 😊 You can tell by the same style of fighting and use or slow motion! ❤ Probably why they cast Hugo Weaving again. 😊
You made my day
I'm, I guess what others consider "old" but, I actually saw this movie when it 1st came out.
I love it when the oracle gave him a cookie inside the computer system.. cookies are used to save information in a browser when u visit a homepage 🙂
I think the rage against machine song has been used somewherre else, perhaps in the movie Blade? At least the same type of music
Anyway, I really hope u would react to "The man from earth", preferrably with ur gf, u are gonna love it 💗
I really enjoy this first film as well as the sequels following this. Resurrections was fine but Reloaded and Revolutions are pretty underrated.
The sequel movies touch upon the real world aspects a bit more.
The point of this is to bring stuff from old testament, bit of old Babylon , bit of here and there. Best part is the find refs. :D
I was 19 years old when saw this movie first time... Still can watch every day 😊😊😊
I love that you are on the Matrix journey, but PLEASE watch The Animatrix when you finish or at least before 'Reloaded', as it adds so much more context to the Matrix.
My favourite movies growing up were Shawshank redemption and Memories of a geisha ❤ you should check those out!
Rage against the Machine stole the idea from Cashmere by Led Zeppelin.
The absolute best thing the machines made was Smith and the Oracal, and they cranked him out in the first interation according to Smith himself. I mean he and only a few other old programs from the 1st even made it this far.
HTTP status code 303 means "go elsewhere" indicating a resource has been moved to another location
The oracle told him that he had received the gift but that he was not yet ready because he didn't really believe in him. Your next life maybe... she told him!
And in fact, Neo had to die and be resurrected to finally be the one.
The Oracle is absolutely right.
I was 7 when the first Matrix came out. It is def a movie that, at the time, was progressive and intriguing. Great films!
6:08 "I just don't understand what the hell's going on around here and why no-one will give me a simple straight answer!" - Marty McFly BTTF Part 2
You guys should definitely react to, Elysium
Another movie starring Hugo Weaving is the adventures of Priscilla, queen of the desert. He was a bad ass in the matrix, he was a drag queen in Priscilla. Literally opposite ends of the scale.
Ah yeah I love matrix 😊🎉
Uuuuuu Matrix, I'm here for this one. That will be tonight's plan.
Such a good movie. I wish the sequels could live up to it, but for me, it works best as a standalone film.
I just love her
thanks for reaction
'..and we are the cure.' So, Agent _Robert_ Smith?
Funny how you can tell the marble wall is fake , as they walk on the wall. You can see the wall boards dislodging under the weight.
Cypher was one of the guys Morpheus find and he thought he was the One and in the end he wasn't thats why he so upset and want to forget everithing.
You guys gotta watch Kung Fu Hustle too!
And Devil's Advocate.
I LOVE The Matrix. I was maybe 10 when it came out. I have never been more confused during a movie plot ever lmao Loved the action though lol
Agent Smith is Lord Elron (the Elf) from Lord of the Rings.
12:32 a glitch in the matrix! It's REAL!!!!!
Best line imo
I know kung fu
One of the late 90s movies that was ever evolutionary for the time. RIP for the main mean guy also played in Lord of the rings movie and others...🙏🙏🙏💖💖💖 keep safe all 🥰🙏
Hugo Weaving isn't dead, so who are you talking about?
@@brianmonks8657 thanks for letting me know it's been a long time since seeing this movie, I apologize for the comment.😊😊👍👍🙏🙏
Lord of the Rings stands apart from all other movies for me. But, after that, The Matrix is the best movie I’ve ever seen
The woman in the red dress caused a problem while walking to the set. Some guy in his high dollar car was watching her and not the garage he was trying to park in and wrecked his car.
