Thanks to those who commented on the flight performance. This is exactly why I waited for 5 weeks to make the video. Quad performance is as much (if not more) about the tune and filter setup as it is the hardware. Great hardware needs a great setup in Betaflight and INAV to fly the best that it can. A premium, high end BNF quad like this should have setups on the website for the latest firmwares. I see that many of you here in the comments agree. I wanted you to be aware that this was the case that latest code setups wasn't there (yet). As soon as I can get my hands on the 'official' tuned setups for Betaflight 4.4 and INAV 6.1 I will make a flight review video and if it flies well, we can look at the tune and the filter settings to see how they did it too. If the INAV 6.x CLI file doesn't appear in the next weeks/months I may make a video on how to get this flying smoothly. Pilots buying these BNF style models are often not able to tune and work through filter settings, they just want it to fly great out of the box. Happy flying and stay tuned!
Dave C / Rekon LR designs have loads of potential, but tend to suffer from low frequency resonance which makes tuning difficult. It's a shame they haven't quite delivered a finished product here. Excellent review.
I love this bird. I have mine set up with a brain Fpv radix flight controller running beta flight 4.5 with one of the new 10th gen Gps units and return to home works flawlessly, only problem I’ve had is overheating the 03 air unit but I was flying in 100 degree heat here in Texas. But other then that it is the smoothest bird I own and I can get about 15 min on a 3300mha battery. This thing is just a delight to fly
Rekon5 is still my favourite - I flew so much with it in the last two years that I almost forgot about all my other quads. I just can't give up on the excellent handling and endurance on a 3S LiPo and MISS 2004 2880kV motors. It does lack bite in that configuration, but cruising with it is just so relaxing. If I lost mine like you, I would definitely get another one!
Thanks Lee, await your video on how to use notch filters very eagerly I have a home built Rekon 7 with HDZERO and cannot get a secure GPS fix for Position Hold or RTH as soon as the VTX is powered!!
I solved that by: 1- Using a long low gain high quality antenna(sma rush Cherry 150mm) 2- Twisting, shielding and grounding the GPS cable. 3- Making sure that the sma pigtail is properly shielded and grounded. It takes 3-4 minutes to Lock 7sats here. I'm using a bn880q, without battery(no hot start). It was chopped of in the bench and i never found It again. It worth to note that any high gain antena ( such as foxeer pagoda pro, etc) WILL mess up the GPS/compass
Almost pulled the trigger on a Rekon 7 HD with the original DJI Air Unit last year. Won't spend this kind of cash though, if not on the latest firmware of BF/iNAV and a proper tune.
Nice review of the Rekon 7. Betaflight 4.4 has issues with some gps models, I think it’s M10 barred ones. i’ve personally had really bad luck with Betaflight 4, including some random flyaways on arming and GPS rescue not working properly even with M8 and M 80-based GPS is. Issues weren’t there before 4.4.
Caveat emptor - Same jello and vibrations like the Rekon 6. I never got rid of the problem by filtering or tuning, the Rekon concept is overly stretched, DaveC never commented on the obvious problems. The Rekon 5 is the best BNF I ever owned, the Rekon 6 by far the worst. I went on with a Chimera 7 and I m a happy camper ever since ….
Would you do an updated guide to inav setup of LR quad at all? I know the inav 3 guide is still relevant but things have moved on and different options in the current version
@@Painless360 ya I am having similar issue with this frame. It seems i cannot get it to fly decently with iNav at all. Im running tmotor velox 2808 motors, t-motor velox cine FC stack and get a constant wobble / twitch. Tryed UAVtech's 7 inch tune and it got worse. Im going to go back to defaults and try using eztune this time and adjust it with that.
Hello the betaflight diff/dump file is for 4.2. If possible could you please upload the 4.3.1 as on the video? I am having problems with 4.4 that it will really help me to solve the problem
INAV 3.0! For a quad that comes with an HD system (especially DJI). If you use their firmware you won't be able to have any of the HD OSD stuff, let alone matrix filters etc.
paying that much money and especially with a BNF i'd expect the tune to be perfect not just a standard base tune on INAV and an out of date version of INAV to boot.
Just checked and not updated CLI available today. I am planning a video on tuning with INAV on a multirotor and using things like filters to remove the twitching you get on larger models. This is one of those areas where things like the PixHawk, with the vibration isolated IMUs, are so good at larger models.. Happy flying!
Thanks for the idea. Top be honest I've never had to use one here in all of the builds and years I've played with them. If I find out what they are, I'll make a video! Happy flying!
Noob question: You are running dji 03 on the drone and have 2 antennas on the back. Why do you have the 2 crossfire antennas? PLEASE HELP!! JUST GETTING INTO THE HOBBY.
I have to agree about the Betaflight GPS stuff. I've not had good experiences testing it here but find INAV and Ardu reliably get the model home... Happy flying
@@Painless360 when I talk about this I refer to the original HD Pro as delivered by Rekon 1: You can't flash it as it wont boot into DFU mode without a re-wire, has things on UART 1-3 2: A 120FPS camera wont fit in unless you extremely bend the frame or sand down some of the holes for the cam mount 3: A regular XT60 (AMASS) wont fit threw the top plate without some minor sanding 4: The FC has issues in BF if u enable the MAG 5: Mine arrived with two damaged motors 6: the TPU for the gopro just rips off doing flips 7: it has very bad vibration issues needing a lowpass filter of about 75~80hz 8: supplied folding props exploded 9: .... much more, but I'll stop here... it is good once u replace everything supplied by HGLRC, but as is in BNF form.. pretty bad.
Love your vids... But a "LITTLE" bit of twitching 😳it almost is as bad as with my DIYs 🤣 Btw- had massive Problems with my last O3 7" build (AOS UL7 Frame)- in the end it was a bad Prop 🫣
Footage used showed the problem as clearly as I could. This is why vendors need to share setup files and tips. With larger props, things like correctly set notch filters are essential to smooth eveything out. Pilots shouldn't have to on a BNF model that costs this much... Happy flying

Maybe a Falconrad build is in order? I'd love to see a Shakedown on something that isnt a bnf or pnp.
I’m already curious how you get the twitching solved. I had the same problem with a 7” custom build some time ago 😊
I might make a video on this then. It's less about the tune and more about filtering... Stay tuned!

Hey Lee, what do you would change to increase the endurance of this? Change motors? Propellers?
Larger props spinning more slowly for extra efficiency and less weight... Happy flying
Hello! Has this vibration been resolved since then? I plan to use it as an iNav7x.
Where can the Betaflight CLI be found? On there page all they have is the INV CLI
They don't have it on the website, link to how mine came in video description. Let them know you need it so they can see how needed this detail is..
Lee, have you fixed the issue? I have a simliar one analog, still have not flown yet. Thanks,
It is still on the list... Stay tuned

Welcome to the channel - lots of information and knowledge on here for R/C and electronics in over 2,100 videos! Happy flying!
I’ve just built one of these, did we ever discover a decent tune??
I couldn't find an arducopter version for it. I think it'd be great with more endurance specced components and arducopter.
I'm planning g an Arducopter setup and tuning guide video for smaller quads with one of the developers... Stay tuned!
@@Painless360 Looking very much forward to that! Thank you!
Sad it does not have Walsknail version.
not quite related to video but is it possible to show o3 air unit's output on a tablet or laptop ?
If you can get an HDMI out from something, probably.. Best of luck
Do you find HGLRC electronics good and reliable? I don't from my experience.
Although hglrc has awesome frames and motors I often buy.
The ones I have here have Ben very good but you can find the odd issue, like with the firmware updating I found on this one... Happy flying
Reliable RTH = Ardupilot, not Betaflight anything😀 inav is OK as well! Shame its an F722 and not suitable for Ardupilot firmware!
