Life is Difficult. How to Handle it...

  • This weeks video is inspired by a book: The Road Less Travelled, by M. Scott Peck. amzn.to/2iBiMjQ
The book begins with the statement "Life is difficult". It is our failure to understand this, believing that my life should be easy and problem-free is the root of suffering. Life is not meant to be easy, and is a series of problems which can either be handled or ignored.
Discipline is required to solve life’s problems rather than ignore them. Most people avoid the pain of solving their problems.
In The Road Less Traveled Peck describes 4 Aspects of Discipline:
Delaying gratification: Sacrificing present comfort for future gains.
Acceptance of responsibility: Accepting responsibility for one's own decisions.
Dedication to truth: Honesty, both in word and deed.
Balancing: Handling conflicting requirements. Scott Peck writes of an important skill to prioritize between different requirements - bracketing.

To overcome is to get stronger... "Life is a constant struggle, not only against forces around us, but above all against our own ego. We can never afford to rest on our oars, for if we do, we soon see ourselves carried downstream again. " ~ The Universal House of Justice, Baha'i Faith

Thank you Conor! It is impressive how your videos and opinions are relevant to patients'- physicians' communication field. I am a Greek oncologist, working in Thessaloniki. At this moment, I treat a wonderful Irish lady, who lives in Greece for twenty years. I have learned many things from this relationship. And some of your videos have helped me a lot to approach and get familiar to the Irish mentality.

Connor, as I do cardio on my elliptical, I came here with much on my plate lately. You did not disappoint. Life is hard and moving forward is a choice. With that said, embrace life and take steps whether they are small or big. Of course this elliptical seems to not adhere to this state of mind. But it was my answer to get away and get my necessary fitness requirement in. Thanks for the positivity that was also needed Connor. Attitude workout done too.

Conor, thank you once again for an incisive analysis of life's problems, and how to remediate them. Life is full of opportunities, but unless we clear away the issues blocking clear thinking, we won't be effective. Excellent talk!

    Hello from Az,
First time finding you on utube.
My name is Eileen. I am 64.
Where do I start to make a new life for myself NOW when I live on $730 a month SS. I live with my ex husband and it is tenuous at best.
But I have no car, and no opportunities from friends and or family at this time. My ex gambled away any of value that I had( all my jewelry) we lost the house to forclosure , and my car went to pay one of his debts. He was suicidal and went out and cleaned houses to pay bills. We were almost homeless 4 years ago.
I was a housewife for the 18 years we were married and have extreme anxiety, so I was happy to be home. But the marriage failed and I had tried to move on then. But it came out that he had been addicted to gambling and there was NO $$ in the equity of the house for either of us.
This has traumatized me sooo much that I didn’t think I was going to live thru it. I have been trying to heal my mind, deal with extreme anxiety and try to help my ex with his mental status. I literally had NOWHERE to flee if I would have. Not even a great ol’ Auntie with a house and family.
It’s 4 1/2 years later. My 45 year old son is suicidal after the death of my mother and his beloved uncle last year. He was her caretaker and when she passed his income was gone. He cannot find work. But is searching.
My ex just lost another job yesterday. We do not want to live together anymore. I wouldn’t mind.. but he feels trapped. I would love to fall in love again.. find all the riches and experiences that life can bring. I am sooo willing to learn and grow.
Something is brewing in me and I want to LIVE!!!!!
Life is more than hard. And I don’t know how, or where to start..
    Thanks for reading my testimony.

don't think for one minute you can solve EVERY problem some you may have to accept and change your attitude towards.. ijs i.e. unhappy in loveless marriage BUT he's a great father and husband I'm just not in love with him.. never have been can't rip my family apart because of it so I just make the best of it and keep it moving🚶‍♀️
