I just try not to buy stuff, that I already have. Like fitted sheets, my regular sheets are long enough to tuck in and stay put. And I needed a bed pillow, but I had a new one that was in a pillow sham for my bed that I wasn't using. And the last few times of going to the record store, I didn't buy any albums, because I have 4 crates of albums. I do like looking at vintage stores, record shops to get out of the house, but I really don't need to buy anything.
I am a PhD student and I work in a lab ... I love looking good and put together but I can potentially ruin the clothes that I am wearing at any moment if something goes wrong with my experiment! I also bike to school which ruined a couple sneakers I had.. jaja anyway, I decided I would have a sort of "uniform" for the lab.. a good old pair of jeans, my converse, a t-shirt and a sweater. Takes the thinking out of every morning, it's practical and I won't be ruining any other nice clothes or shoes!
Here in southern coastal South Carolina it’s shorts weather for much of the year. I went through my shorts drawer and donated all the ones I don’t wear (many!) and kept the few I reach for most of the time. As is the case with most of my clothes I tend to wear the same ones (not many) whatever the season is.
Of all the declutter wardrobe videos I have seen, this is the one that makes more sense. You have enough variety yet is not overwhelming. Defenelty my next step in my minimalistic journey.
I started my decluttering journey in 2019, and since then I have reduce my clothes from over 200 to just around 80. Now I almost use everything and it is really convenient !
Finally someone with a style like mine! I know everyone’s setup might be deferent but I would like to see how much space that takes up. But this video really helped inspire me to declutter! I’ve got too many just in case dress clothes and shoes. And really everything.
Gabe, this is the best sponsored video I've seen on UA-cam. I follow you so I trust that you wouldn't recommend crap to us, and I've been looking for a better brand of clothes for my tall husband anyway, so of course I will now use your link to check out cuts. I've seen other creators, even minimalists, recommend 100 things off of Amazon at Christmas time and it feels really disingenuous. I appreciate you being choosy so that your sponsors make sense.
I definitely try to make sure that I use and love everything I recommend and honestly everything I've gotten from them has been really high quality it's definitely a little bit more expensive but I like having a few things and then not having to shop for the next few years
@@GabeBult perfect. I literally do my husband's shopping for him because he just won't think of it and was literally wearing an armpit-less tee shirt this weekend. Time to buy clothes that can be seen in public again.
Instead of a suit, you can get a sports coat, which will easily go with khaki pants and a nice t-shirt for more dressy occasions. When I was working years ago, it was a major ordeal to switch out my clothes seasonally. Bags and bags of clothes and boxes of shoes would come down from the attic, and the other bags and boxes would go up, and that cycle continued until I decided to go minimal. It is amazingly freeing to get rid of most of what I owned. My goal is that all my clothes will fit in my closet and dresser. I'm very close!
My rule is that, any time I get a new item of clothing, I retire or demote an old one. Dress clothes get retired, normal clothes get demoted to work clothes, work clothes get retired when good clothes are demoted. I have like 20 t-shirts because people keep giving them to me, but every time I get a new one, I retire an old one.
That’s a solid rule! It keeps your wardrobe fresh and avoids clutter. I totally get the t-shirt overflow-it's hard to say no sometimes! I recently tackled my closet too and shared some tips on how to do it effectively. Would love for you to check it out for more ideas like this!
I love that your wardrobe isn't like 7 shirts and 7 pairs of pants. It's realistic, yet simple! I am in Central California so my problem is the opposite of yours -- too much summer, not enough winter!

Hey! This is the second video of yours I have watched, and geez! No cuss words so far?? Yay! How delightfully refreshing! I grow weary of the profanity that has become so popular! I've subscribed, and will be posting you on FB!! Thanks for being professional!!
I have a minimal wardrobe just by accident. I have several pair a black leggings and a variety of long tunic sweatshirts with turtlenecks to wear underneath. I Iive in Wisconsin so it is cold for many months of the year. For summer I have several pair of black knit capri pants & a variety of short sleeved tshirts. I have an old pair of jeans & 2 of those long sleeve tshirts that block uv rays for gardening. In addition I have 2 dresses for weddings, funerals, etc-one of warm weather & one for cold. I have one black swimsuit ‘ & a black coverup.
I have quite a lot of clothes that I like aesthetically but only wear very rarely, and a tiny capsule wardrobe of day-to-day stuff. I might downsize the former but I do like having the choice on occasion. My partner literally wears the same two pairs of jeans and two polo shirts all the time + work uniform. He's an extreme minimalist by this standard.
Most men in my generation had just the basics. Work clothes mainly of jeans and a t shirt, a couple sweatshirtst and maybe something extra nice from the wear and tear of work clothes for the weekends That's all you need.
…I have different colors 👀. Thanks For the video. I’ve been implementing things I’ve learned in your videos and I’ve seen the difference in my savings account.
I love your videos, I have watched so many of them and that's really helped on my journey to minimalism. So thanks! I think you actually have more clothes than me. And I'm a woman. So I guess I'm done decluttering that. Feels so good.
I just love your video and you have inspired me I used to have lots of stuff and junk now I have decluttered and I'm living with less things and it makes me feel free less worried so thank you and I wish you all the best
Love a good minimalist wardrobe and I love how you added color!! Sometimes I feel like the personality of a person can be erased by this whole minimalism movement :/
Watching your channel and a few more are helping me to declutter my possessions. The trash collectors are really earning their money lately as I make the can a heavy as possible. Thanks so much for your helpful content.
Already commented the same on some other minimalist's wardrobe video. I would never consider myself even a minimalist but compared to these minimalist's wardrobes, I am an extreme minimalist.
For a long time I thought I could never experience capsule wardrobe, since most od the videos I've seen have black/grey/beige/white pieces and I really like colorful wardrobe. I also don't like black color. So it seemed quite impossible for me. Luckily, after a few months I figured it is important that most of my tops go with most of my bottoms and everything else is a matter of choice. I then came up with my perfect colorful capsule (with navy blue as basic dark color instead of black) 🙂
Man, my closet is a mess and I haven’t worn anything in there since I retired 7 years ago! Time to declutter! But I have to get off my lazy ass first! 😂😂😂
Any recommendations for dress shirts or blazers? I'm loving my new Cuts shirts but would like to have a blazer and maybe 1 or 2 dress shirts for weddings and formal affairs. Thanks and keep up the great work!
Yep, New England weather is weird (MA girl here)...but a good thing is: as long as you don´t ¨stand out¨ people don´t give a dime as to how you dress...
Hey Gabe, I know this is an older video but I have the "Cuts" version of shorts. I have minimized my wardrobe to two versions of shorts. General, Casual, or slightly fancy (Birddogs shorts) and also Khul makes very very very good quality outdoors styles of pants and shorts. Special Announcement! Cuts just started making shorts too along with a female clothing line....
I have a seasonal 15 items wardrobe. I use to stress over not having anything to wear and spending too much time trying to put something together and having clothes flung all over the room. Ironically I have way way way less close now and have more to wear LOL 😂
I’m a minimalist also and only wear plain black t-shirts every single day. $7 each at Target. Pro tip: Hanging your t-shirts stretches out the collar and neck elastic. Better to fold your t-shirts and hang only your jackets and button up shirts or flannels. Stretched out t-shirt collars look awful. Protect your investments (even if it’s only $7)
Gasp! You displayed shirts that had buttons! I stick to crew shirts, and crew sweaters. No buttons that will fall off. The 👕 that I own with buttons are dress shirts , quantity: three.
I love this concept. My problem is a weight yo-yo thing… 😢 …so I have the same things in different sizes. I suppose part of being a minimalist is keeping your body the same size to avoid this!
Even if going for a minimalist wardrobe, I still highly recommend having one good quality and versatile suit (like a grey or navy blue). Even if for rare occasions, every once in a while you’ll want to look sharp and well-dressed at a wedding, funeral, important business meeting in the city, etc. Buying or renting a suit on short notice is a terrible experience, and having a one that you like and fits you well will make you feel like a million bucks whenever you suit up. Even if it’s pretentious, plenty of people will still harshly judge you if you show up underdressed to an important event.
