I cut back on social media back in 2018 and haven't gone back. The only social media format I have stayed with is UA-cam, I'm only subscribed to channels that teach and inspire. That's why I watch this channel. You're never too old or too young to learn new things from others. I have also recently joined the Life Reset Challenge because even though I have cut out Social media considerably, I still struggle with finding time to reach and complete my goals. Thank you Gabe for this opportunity to learn how to reset. 🙌😀
This isn't new to me, but watching your videos (and rewatching) gets me back on track. And your rules aren't crazy strict, which makes doing things much more realistic and manageable.
Become unavailable is something that changes so much. It took some time for my people to accept it but after a couple of weeks it was normal that I respond in a few hours/days and no friendship or family relationship is damaged. You don't have to be available 24/7 and the right people in your life will respect it
I like the idea of the box. I once read that the most important thing in a paperless office or household isn't document management software and such, it's the paper recycling bin. This is kind of a similar situation.
Experience: We did that with our sons for Christmas once we landed in their late middle school/into high school ages. We traveled at Christmas time. They are now in their 20s, and we have great discussions about those trips, but I sincerely doubt we'd have happy, laugh filled talks about whatever toys or...stuff...we would have given them instead.
Great comment. I remember my travel experiences with my family much more than any 'item' I've received. Except maybe my Mickey Mouse t-shirt from Disneyland... 50 years ago. 🐀 I still have those memories.. don't have the shirt !! ❤

The nightly reset is called "putting the house to bed" in our home! We can't go to bed until the house has been put to bed, makes it part of a normal bedtime routine instead of it feeling like a burden keeping us from our bedtime routine.
He’s right about the house on fire rule. I literally cleaned out everything from my room and closet and i was shocked how much I got rid of and still have a lot of stuff I feel. I’m about to do it again in a month.
I love your videos. I recently watched something on Swedish Death Cleaning. The concept that if you were going to die tomorrow, would you want your family to have to sort through it all. If you don't want them to have to deal with it then get rid of it. It has really helped me a lot!
I’m doing a massive purge and downsizing. I’m going from a rented two bedroom townhome, to renting a single bedroom and house-sharing with a friend (2024 version of Golden Girls) 8 boxes of books went to thrift store (I kept 8 boxes I can’t live without 😆 hey it’s still progress), all the clothes I kept fit on a single clothing rack (no closet on my bedroom). My bed is a foldout Japanese futon mattress (no frame) on top of a tatami mat. I fold up my bed in the morning and my workout space is right there. Nice and simple, easy peasy. I’m moving on less than two weeks and my soon to be old house is chaos, but it won’t be for long.
If you don’t want to wear all black, on Sunday just have your clothes laid out for the week. I usually have my clothes on hangers in order in the closet, underwear socks laid out and pants. Same for the kids. I’m an ocd dad
The great reset - no spend month edition got us our house deposit in 3yrs. We bought our house in 2022 ❤ were also practice upgradelessness, quality purchasing and experiences over stuff. One i would add (unless i missed it, its a lot of content) is a goals check in with yourself and your other half! Really dig into it not just a single sentence so you know you (and they!) are working towards the same thing itll help you move there with less resistance.
Loved💜 " Sometimes you need a friend to slap you across the face" gently and lovingly. That was the best! I can so relate to that because I am usually that friend who will do that to others no matter what it is. Thanks for that. 💜
Friend sent me here . I struggle with anxiety which has become more of easily irritated. Plus I need to stop blowing money. I have already started in the areas of my house where I'm in alot. I have lots of rooms to pile stuff into that I need to work on. But just getting rid of cluttered decorations and spaces has made me feel so much better. I actually watched another video and she said don't decorate just to have decorations. Make it work and make sense. I think when you see too much or when I do it stresses me out . Now I'm gonna binge these videos
It's amazing how history keeps repeating itself, and the urgency to prepare is definitely real! Investing can be the best decision of your financial life. I started my journey in 2021, and it’s been the best choice I've made for my finances.
No matter how long you wait, opportunities will arise in the market. Invest for the long term, and avoid being too greedy or too fearful. Making informed decisions is crucial; relying on luck isn’t enough, so partnering with an advisor is essential.
15:21 so far is my favorite time stamp of this video, the older I get the more I realize it’s good to not be doing what everyone else is doing. I used to do things just because everyone around me is doing them or I become envious of them, but I’ve learned for most things ,the majority is wrong and I didn’t really miss out on anything. It’s ironic that most of the people I was envious of are now envious of me lol. 👍🏻
Great information and concise! The only thing I disagree with is that I can have the banana and the peanut butter at the same time, but I understand the concept. 😄
Hey, don’t agree with you politically or view wise, but your minimalism videos have always grounded me, thanks for sticking true to your core message. 💙
I agree with everything except for Black Friday sale If you are looking for some appliances or high end purchase Black Friday sales is one of the best days to get the best discount and finally buy something you’ve been holding off buying for a long time
You're missing the point I think. Shopping a sale for something you need is a great idea. Shopping for shopping sakes, because everyone else is shopping, is not a good idea.
the "one thing" rule reminds me of something in the fitness world called "periodization." Periodization is, as the name suggests, having periods of time where you are more focused on doing different things. You don't get your optimal gains by having a constantly evenly distributed focus on every single one of your fitness goals, it's actually more helpful to focus on the growth of one aspect of your fitness, then on another, then on another. There is a certain really high stimulus that is required to make really good gains in one thing, but it doesn't take a whole lot of stimulus to just maintain it. If you try to maximally stimulate everything at the same time, you'll probably either burn out (mentally or physically), or you'll just not actually have the ability to provide enough stimulus. Instead, keep maintenance on everything except for a couple things that you really want to improve at the moment, and cycle which things you are actively improving. It's not a requirement for making progression, but it has been shown to be more optimal. And if you generalize the reasons that it works, it makes sense that it would work pretty well for other goals unrelated to fitness.
I’m loving the salt n pepper curls, I have the same hair and I’ve been putting highlights in for years but I think after seeing other millennials embracing their gray, I’m going to as well 😊
Great advices, I need to stop after a few minutes, too fast, too much, need more peace of mind to listening to this complete video. Thank you for your work and intention.
after been sticking to only wear clothes that is minimal, my colleague told me if I was a security guard before, I know it is quite hilarious but I get to see my life being simple, trying to at least give myself a cheat day to wear and look fabulous before the end of the month
Nightly Reset - this reminds of the quote by Admiral McRaven "Make your bed". It refers to a mental health tactic to stay above water by doing the simple things so that they dont compound into bigger issues. do you have a couple dishes, do them real quick so that it doesnt become a sink full. Do you have a messy bed , make it when you wake up so you at least have a comfy bed to come to at the end of the long day.
@15:17 as someone with depression, breaking the mold of the mental illness assumption isn’t that easy. I try to tell myself it’s okay to live my own way, but mental health and living a certain way for so long proves a challenge
The 80% get rid of thing is problematic. Of that 80%, some is likely going to be part of your 20% in the future. It’s wasteful to get rid of perfectly good clothing. Fine if you are rich , but for many, they would be throwing away good clothing that they may be very thankful for in the future. The money might not be there to replace it.
I rotate in my closet. If I skip some clothing over and over, it goes to a back closet. After staying in that back closet for a year, I donate it. Exception are formal, wedding or funeral clothes which stay til they no longer fit or are hopelessly out of style.
It's likely not going to be part of the 20% but up to you to know your stuff and if you can't replace it in 20 minutes for $20 if you need it in the future and keep it
I wish I had your energy levels. after a day at work - being yelled at by other peoples teenagers: all me and my adhd have the energylevels and sensory capacety for is lying on the couch. alone. in silence. doomscroll. not move. no people.
recently I have lost my motto or passion about my work I really need to find that joy again before the crunch time at the office begins, do you have advice or videos about this? how to find the love and energy to do what you chose as your profesional career. Patty, my knee injury really changed my life. Everything is a challenge now. Hang in there.

Very good videos.
I got rid of my smart phone for a flip phone with no internet, I only have a tablet to studying french and watching videos when I'm done with work
what would you recommend to someone who really wants to travel but doesn’t want to spend too much?
I swear there's a fraction rule for everything. The 1/99 rule. The 2/98 rule. The 3/97 rule. And so on 😅
Asking for a friend....where's your ceramic mug from?
What is the journal that you use to track your routines ?
Saving this video. Thank Gabe.
Great video
Every time i start to fall off, your videos motivate me.
I am curious as to how your wife manages her wardrobe? I would want to know from a woman's perspective.
Thank you for a great video.
Thank you!!

Gabe,
What does wide is the gate mean?
You either invest in the store or you invest in the doctors so buy the healthiest food!
Gabe, why did you have to bring up the mugs!!!!!!! They are cute… you be quiet😢😅 hey Gabe, more importantly, I have been subscribed to your channel for a very, very long time. When I clicked on your video it said to subscribe this has been happening to a lot of UA-camrs that I have been subscribed to for years. Has anyone else brought this to your attention?
Separate. Spell check
good video thank you how old are you?
Some of these advices are great, and while I agree on not needing so much stuff, I hate the videos when they say “we invest in freedom and traveling and not crap”. Just because that is for you, it doesn’t mean the other thing is bad not that you can’t have both. That “what you do” sentiment feels very entitled. There are people that hate traveling or social gathering. There are people that can afford both, their hobbies and traveling. And there are people that like their collecting hobbies. You should stop to dismiss those other lifestyles at the “bad option”.
This sounds like the one thing book.

The first tip is about going to the gym- how is this minimalism?
I give you a rule of minimalism - be minimal with amount of “rules” you follow😅
There is no such thing as a free lunch....
The next best opportunity is forgone
Note to myself : rewatch it next month
YES = Reset your space daily..
18:35 Brain…what? 🐸 😂
I think he said brain fog 😊
HI
Hello
Wow, 50 rules? A real minimalist would only have one rule....
Just kidding, good tips!
The constant camera changes and adhd cutting of the video feels contrary to minimalism.
Yeah, I am not comfortable sitting still
@@GabeBult something to work on buddy. otherwise, good content
From an undiagnosed ADD woman - thanks for the tips!

50 rules??? Didn't go minimalist with that, eh?😮
