Rolex Submariner Polishing Demonstration - Sooo Cool!!

- Опубліковано 5 жов 2024
- The Rolex Submariner is one of the most popular watches in existence. Sit back and enjoy how a master watchmaker polishes this watch to restore it's shine and beauty.
You'll take a first-seat look as each scratch on the bracelet, clasp and case are polished away with the utmost care possible to the tune of the original sounds involved in the process.
Yuri Lopez from Chrono Sky (see Instagram and website links below), our preferred watchmaker, allowed us to take some breathtaking footage of the entire process.

Even though not everyone is a fan of polishing watches, with purists believing that every scratch and nick becomes an important part of a watch's history, there are customers who just wouldn't wear a watch unless it is polished. After all, part of it comes down to taste. Nevertheless, at a bare minimum, these divided opinions make watch polishing a controversial and oftentimes heatedly debated topic!
No matter on what side of the polishing fence you're on, the utmost care was taken to polish the Rolex Sub (date version, ref 16610) shown on the video, which was already in pretty bad shape to begin with.
You'll also notice that the aluminum bezel of the watch was pretty damaged to begin with. However, the only way to have corrected that problem was by replacing the bezel, which the owner of the watch did not want to do.

I do not understand all the negative comments, watches are meant to be worn and enjoyed at least the customer is servicing the watch. The age of the watch is circa15+, when it was bought a SS submariner was a high end tool watch that is widely available at good discount ! It was not bought as an investment asset it was bought to be worn. I try to take care of my watches without being too obsessive, if this was my watch I would polish it as well; good job CRM 👍
Thank you man. Really appreciate your thoughtful comment and I agree with you. People oftentimes let their personal opinions and preferences affect their response to the world. It is what it is. The reality is that it all depends on taste. If you're a purist that believes every scratch is an essential part of the watch, then wear it happily without having a hissy fit every time you see someone who likes wearing a shiny watch send it to get polished. Life is too short to see the world through biased glasses. 🤷
👍👍
@@Crmjewelers yo, where's eric? biases glasses huh? lol
Agree your point, but in my country, most of the Rolex collectors definately send for service but no polish require because in pre-own market, most people not willing to pay for the polished watch.
@@nichance I don't under the "biases glasses" part. Eric left and started his own channel after the first quarter of 2020. Our channel has gone in a different direction since that time, away from just opinionated reviews to a more complete representation of the entire watch and jewelry industry. Now we're focused more on showing detailed breakdowns of how things look inside, how things are made, etc. As a result, we've grown more during these last 6 months than we did in the last 3 years. However, we realize that a lot of people don't really want to learn how stuff works and just want someone's opinion on a watch. As a result, we will never be able to please those subscribers and instead ask them to kindly unsubscribe from our channel and follow Eric's. 🙏
5:51 Rounded edges on the lugs and the crown guards have a completely different shape from stock after the polish.
and look at the lug holes, the spring bars are sticking out like a wart ...
What would you do differently. Besides leaving it alone like be real here. When the last time you seen a Rolex that been truly used and abused. I’m just happy that it still runs after the life it had.
and the chamfers are rounded and gone
That is what's called butter...
I'm not here to spread negativity, but i think you could have done alot better here.
This watch is overpolished & there is no way around that.
But i think it would have been alot nicer if you would have worked towards recovering the original shape of the lugs and the chamfered edge that details these submariners.
great video, but some points: chamfering on the lugs is gone :( Case looks like it has a bit of a too rounded polished surface, the 16610 case is very 'flat'. Can't describe it well because English isn't my first language.
Thank you Kevin. Unfortunately, the watch was already extremely badly polished (including the lugs) and polished too many times prior to the final polishing. The thing is that some clients are obsessed about having their watch look shiny despite our advice.
@@Crmjewelers Sounds like he should take it to LA Watch Works.
@@Crmjewelers Interesting. I would have thought a polish done professionally wouldn't have rounded off so many of the sharp edges in the first place
I love watching people that are masters of a skill. Loved the video!
Thank you for watching man 👍
16610 , what a cracking watch. Looks amazing after the polish .
Thanks Damien. I agree.
I love the polishing sounds even though I'm not a big fan of polishing! 😉
Thanks man. Yeah, we're really trying to optimize all our sounds. It's a lot of work, but worth it at the end.
Agree, sounds are even more important than visuals.
Love the video! I agree if you have a watch that you truly love and use it as a daily wear it's going to get scratched. If your buying a watch for an investment it's probably going to spend most of its time in the box that it came with in a safe. Even an investment can easily get scratched and use a good polishing. Those that buy them to wear daily know all too well we're going to bump our watches on something just about everyday. To me it shows character. I have to admit those first scratches on a new watch does break my heart just a little... LOL Don't get me wrong at some point I may want to get my favorite watch looking like it's a old self and it's nice to know it can be done so flawlessly in the hands of a professional jeweler. Nothing wrong with extending the beauty of your good luck charm! Thank you for posting the video. I always appreciate seeing good craftsmanship put to work. I wouldn't hesitate to send my watch to you. May this New Year bring you happiness, health and prosperity!
Thank you for your support and awesome comments Michael. Much success to you and yours during 2021 as well.
Nothing wrong with a bit of polishing every once in a while as long as it’s done by a pro and not some amateur butchering your precious timepiece. Just don’t overdo it. There’s also nothing wrong with some marks showing that the watch is actually been worn and enjoyed. Like most things in life it’s all about balance.
I agree with you my friend, but there are extremists on both sides of the fence too.
Looks amazing! I am all for polishing and keeping a watch looking good. Obviously you can't do it too much otherwise you lose the fine sharp edges and you also lose a minimal amount of steel/ gold (depending on the material) every time you do. Keep it to a minimum and any watch can be restored. The people who are against polishing make me laugh. Some may think scratches add character - but when a watch has THAT many scratches - it looks like sh*t and that's when you should polish. We aren't talking vintage Daytona's here guys. These are modern mass produced luxury watches. It does NOT effect the value on a modern watch and most people wouldn't even be able to tell if it's polished properly enough. Even if it is a 15 year old Submariner - if you don't plan on selling it - who cares if you polish it. EVERY watch eventually becomes "discontinued" or "vintage". It's an idiotic concept to be AGAINST polishing. For 99% of watches - once in a blue it's absolutely fine. For RARE or one of a kind vintage watches - YES it can effect value because people want it as original as it came. There is a HUGE difference. Everyone likes a shiny new watch - there is NOTHING wrong with polishing. You polish your jewelry and car so that they shine and look beautiful. It's the same concept....
Thanks man for putting that so perfectly 😉
You really nailed it with this comment. i like to have my watches looking like new, I bought them to wear and enjoy and as you said I wouldn’t want to be driving around with a scratched up var or wear beat up jewelry.

Seriously satisfying, and excellent job done 👍🏼
Thank you so much for watching and helping our channel Karl. 👍👍
4:24 Caseback isn't nearly crispy enough at the transition of the flat part and the long bevel :/
Nice, but the sides of the bracelet are polished not brushed. Just like the case. FYI 😮
At the end the parts have been coated? At least it looked like it.
As for polishing... well to be honest... If you just don't like the fact your watch looks beat up or you want to pass it to the next gen and want to see an happy face, you can polish it. Why not? I mean it's your watch, you can do whatever you want with it.
I personally wouldn't do it but that oppinion grew on me during my watch collectors years. Before these years, I was in strong believe, that that's what is a part of the brand you're buying into. You purchase such a watch and even after years of heavy duty wearing, you can send it to Rolex and it comes back like brand new. At least that's what Rolex offers til this day.
Thanks for watching man and no, the parts have not been coated, just polished. I agree with your take on polishing. It's a matter of preference, period.
That wasn't done for this watch. It's only used on special cases with stainless watches and mainly used with white gold.
Brutal. This watch should be laser welded and then polished with a lapping machine. In this example the case is rounded and it lost that beautiful crisp lines that makes your rolex stand out.
Agree
Great Job. I don’t understand people that buy watches not to wear.
Cool video CRM, great to see how much work goes on each part of the timepiece. I am reluctant to polish any tool watches but good to know what services are available in the industry.
Thank you so much Nickel 👍👍
Real life magic 🪄 Thank you CRM Jewelers 👍
Thank you for watching Edward 🙇
I wear every stainless steel watch and just wear them to enjoy. My Omega was scratches and the Rolex sub I had was carefully worn but I wore it 3-4 days a week everything from riding the mower to washing the car. Omega got the same wear. I think it’s great when they get just a little to scratched up to take them in and get a nice polish and repeat wearing them. The only watch I ever owned that was extremely well taken care of and only wore when going out or wedding or something extra nice was the Rolex president I use to own many years ago back in 2000-2003. That was my baby. And one day I will buy another and it will be the watch that is extra special. I make it a point to wear the sub and omega when in the pool and snorkeling. I love the sports models and just enjoy them. I will never sell unless it was a weird emergency so I plan to leave them to kids someday
I’m a polisher here in Atlanta! Love the video!
Chamfered edge completely rounded off... sacrilege!
Its great job so amazing talent as a watchmaker, perhaps more people can learned this thanks.
As long as this done by professional, I have no problem with polishing. It looks amazing. I’m wondering how easy it would be to polish a platinum watch?
thank you for posting. I could watch more of these polishing videos.
Thank you. Trust me, there's more to come 😉
Enjoying watching your video as usual
As always, thank you for your support Kevork! 👍
I got light hairline scratches on my sub case, do you Rolex service center can make it look like new with service/polish?
A slick polish. Good work. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching man!
I personally like the look of old worn out watches, they look awesome therefore i'm not going to polish any of my watches when i service them, also ill definitely reintroduced those scratches again when wearing them so why bother, just my thoughts.
Those lines on the bracelet are really bad. They are NOT straight. On the side of the case are some big skretches as well 😳 poor client
When the watch came in, it was in pretty bad shape. The key is to take care of the watch. The Rolex crown on the clasp was really worn out from previous polishing jobs gone wrong 🤷
Bye bye case definition 👋🏻
I hate the my polished watch I rather have it brushed all the polished areas. Can I take it somewhere to do this? Please guide me to the right place. Thanks great video!
Hello sir! I have my first Rolex GMT master 2 two tone, i wear it regularly & wear signs & scratching it inevitable so i wanted to ask how often should i get it polished? Once a year or after every 2 years or so? Would appreciate some insight
Not a fan of polishing but I came. Why? Because I love it.
Ha Ha, keep coming then!
God the spring bar is sticking out, the lugs are junk
The watch had probably already been refurbished before this refurbishment. You can see that very clearly. The watch shines and gleams. But there is little left of the case from an original Submariner. I would have left it in its vintage condition and only refurbished it technically.
If it's my watch and I want it looking like new after a few years, I'll get it polished!!
Don't understand people buying watches to keep in a safe!! And if someone is enjoying their watch to wear and want it looking shiny new, then get it polished when they feel the need!!
It's all based on taste at the end 🤷
Just looking great 👍
Genuine question, how much value did the watch lose after getting polished??😮😮
Great, great job. Very interesting I now understand why polishing costs what it does Thx
It should be a couple hundred max, if you bring straight to a watchmaker (not a jeweler who will bring it to watchmaker).
Wow great job
Thank you very much Visqo.
Cool video !
Thank you very much!
Great work here. Proper due care and attention.
Over polished the case ... edge has gone, but still look nice.
What is the number of sand paper grit used?
awesome video!
Thank you Alex 👍
Well, besides of all case edges gone and the clasp crown that was already f...cked up, good job. simply did what customer wanted and did it right.
For the top lug brushed grain finish, is that at a 45? What grit was the wheel you used? Thanks.
I prefer unpolished cases with scratches to polished soap bars. Material that has been removed once cannot be returned - except by lasering. But who wants a lasered case?
Bought my pandemic 41mm, and I don't wear it but maybe a couple times every couple of weeks or so. But once it starts to show some great wear and tear over the years to come, I plan on polishing mine when the service is due
Beautiful
Where are you located Sr. ?
This is not good. The watch is totally destroyed...
I wish you could share what grade/grit/type of buffing wheels and pastes were used
probably should have taped the edges...
Is it okay i use metal polish on it ? cuz i dont have any of that machines
So relaxing to watch, respects from South Africa
Thank you 🙇
What solution do you use in your ultrasonic? Green soap?
Nice video
Looks like an Explorer case now...
And another Rolex ruined.. washed out lugs, overpolished lug holes, wrong grade of sand paper used, softened edges and lines. Nothing crisp and sharp anymore.
To be fair, the watch has been badly polished before as well.
The spring bars are the ones that came with the watch, but that watch was already extremely badly polished (including the lugs) and polished too many times. The thing is that some clients are obsessed about having their watch look shiny despite our advice. Regarding the sand paper, your statement is incorrect. It was the proper grade.
Hello, fellow bench Jeweller here, wondering what do you use to get the fine brushed finishes for the links and case?
Hi man. We use bufflex satin wheels.
Should I get my batman polished ? It has a few scratches now. Kindly help me with the situation
It all depends on you man and what you like. If you do decide to polish it, make sure that the polishing is gracefully done by a watchmaking professional so that you limit the damage.
NO
Good way to destroy watch
Which place my watch repair in Singapore
God damn dude that is some heavy handed polishing. I'm not against polishing watches but at least use some polyamide tape to preserve edges. You barely have any crown guards left.
Seriously rounded edges everywhere and the watch almost have no crown guards left. This watch requires laser welding 1st then a proper polish not like the one in this video. Very poor job
I though I was the only one to see that... polishing like this is easy!
I want to see polishing to look, at least like, the submariner polishing: with the chamfers at the case edges, and the cross sanding on the lugs.
And the case back didn’t go through a girding wheel after being sanded down . So I’m guessing has a dull circumference too
Overpolished! Such a Bad Job!
Unfortunately, the watch was already extremely badly polished (including the lugs) and polished too many times prior to the final polishing. The thing is that some clients are obsessed about having their watch look shiny despite our advice.
The spring bars are sticking out past these lug holes. This watch should not have been polished in its current condition. It first should have been laser welded to add the girth back to the lugs.
You're right. This watch shouldn't have been polished, but at the end, the clients decide despite our advice. The spring bars are the ones that came with the watch, but that watch was already extremely badly polished and polished too many times.
@@Crmjewelers Yeah, no worries. Customer is always right. Thank you for showing it regardless of knowing the dislikes you’d get.
@Zeus AL hey, no worries man. Thank you for your input. Please feel free to come back and give us more feedback from time to time. 😉
My eyes we on his Panerai knocking on his wooden desk the whole time he was assembling the Rolex.
If I had to choose between him and jooltool, I'd choose the latter. She can teach how to shake and bake your watch.
People are weird, they like restored vintage cars but despise a simple polishing of watch because the "old" looks of it tend to keep its value 🥴
beautiful!
Being into investing mentality in watches destroy the hole fun of buying and wearing them! Its a great experience deliver in my banged, beaten up SS sport Rolex full of scratches for service, and get it back lookin’ brand spanking new! I wear my Rolex 24/7/365 and never become careful about using it. If you cant use your Rolex tool watch as a tool, you shouldnt by a Rolex in tve first place - then Rolex is above your level.
Yikes… look at the rounded edges… this is what happens when someone takes a buffing wheel to your watch…
5:21 is that...a GH5?
Cool for those who want it, but not on my watch! Love the channel, not hating, just not my thing. Scratches = Character & History.
Thank you for watching Jon. There are two sides of the fence when it comes to the to-polish-or-not-to-polish debate 😉
Singing::: it’s why watch and I’ll polish it if I want to. You polish it to, if it happens to you…. Lol. This was like watching porn for me😂
nice
I was tthe 1k like haha, satisfying
Far too many Rolex sports watch cases ruined by over polishing with soft mops etc . Sorry but this isn’t the way to look after a Submariner case . It might look all shiny but it’s lost it’s definition and you will of reduced the lugs by using the Abrasive Artifex wheel. There are easier and better ways to refrain lugs . It’s a shame .
I did not see any sandblasting machine, because some Rolex bezel have to be sandblasted.
This bezel was beyond rescuing LOL, the client did not want to replace it.
The question is do you have the sandblasting machine to sand blast some of the Rolex bezel , in case I want to bring my Rolex for servicing. Thanks.
Yes, we have it in the shop.
Thanks
You bet.
Sorry but the edges are too round. It can be looks more crispy. But anyway nice video
Ben de sayamıyacağım kadar saat parlatması yaptım. Bundan iyi yapıyorum
Sweet mother of god. Im surprised you guys keep this video online. Sweet Jesus did you polish all the crispness out of this watch, look at the comparison shot of the case.
What a waste and so unnecessary.
Cool.
No more face value after polished😔
Some people like their watches polished and won't buy a watch unless it's polished. Some purists are the other way around. It's all a matter of preference. 🤷
If you wore wristguardpro, this wouldn’t be needed, the watch would never be scratched, nor would you polish away the Rolex character, and symbol - literally !! It’s the best thing I’ve ever discovered and protects each and every one of my 7 Rolexes ...
I don't know what one of those is.
What are they?
@@technojoe4079 clear protectors - just Google it. I have bought 10 sets for my 8 watches and it transforms the way you wear them every day, knowing that they cannot be scratched. Change them as go you, bit by bit, as they get dirty, say 6-12 months. Watch is then as new. Great on the claps in particular. $100 for a damaging polishing isn’t needed.
Looks awful, you polished the lugs down so far that the spring bar is sticking out and the crown guards are points.
The spring bars are the ones that came with the watch, but that watch was already extremely badly polished (including the lugs) and polished too many times. The thing is that some clients are obsessed about having their watch look shiny despite our advice.
@@Crmjewelers odd that you would choose this watch to put on your channel, then...just my opinion.
@@seanpratherful we want to show the good with the bad and not just provide the ideal situation. We'll definitely be showing a mix of watches in different conditions going forward.
Overpolished and rounded edges isn't a great look. There are tools out there these days that can get the sharp edges and lines back
Those edges are all gone. Rounded due to poor technique. It should have been lapped. It shines at the end, sure, but no respect for the lines of the case.
Unfortunately, the watch was already extremely badly polished (including the lugs) and polished too many times prior to the final polishing. The thing is that some clients are obsessed about having their watch look shiny despite our advice.

That watch looked better unpolished.
Having it polished and leaving the untouched bezel just makes the whole watch look out of sync with old vs new.
There are different schools of thought on this, but at the end, it's all based on preference.
yeah that bezel should be replaced

@@carltonneckbrace4039 I understand the somepeople believe that, but nothing could be further from the truth. There are quite a few people who believe that a true Sub does not have a date. I'm one of those, although I respect the opinions of others.
How to kill Rolex with a minimum of primitive equipment, otherwise what you see cannot be called. The appearance of this unfortunate watch shows that it has already been in the hands of the same "masters" at least once, all that was possible is already rounded and out of shape.
