I have sciatica back pain. I can lift, bend, walk, run….anything except STAND STILL😢. Standing still throws my back into fits. It’s not as bad as it was a couple years during a flare up, but yeah, definitely a big difference between standing still and doing anything else.
I did anesthesia work for almost four years (mostly through covid dark ages) and shoes were KEY. Standing in one place for 4-6 hours in 3-4 times a shift was hell. Now before you come at me with the whole, “ you could’ve sat down-“, NO I COULDN’T HAVE. I’m not superstitious, but I’m a little-stitious… 🫣 and no anesthetized patient wants you sitting on the job. Something would always change in their disposition so I made it known I was to sit for any monitoring of my patients. 😮💨 For my sanity’s sake. 😅
@@nursenicole222standing still is HORRIBLE for your body. Being on your feet at least means you can move your body into different positions rather than letting all your weight settle into your joints. It’s insane how in America, we expect cashiers to stand for 8-12hrs/day in one spot.
Omg I am so glad u Said this. I have had this issue my whole life sometimes it got so bad I couldn't even walk.. I'm def going to seek these out. Hopefully they don't break the bank lol
I also work in healthcare, and besides shoes the thing that really made a difference for me being on my feet for hours at the time is compression socks. Like a whole new pair of legs Lt Dan!
I have 3 pair of OOFOS - they are sold as “recovery shoes”. They have very high arches so no pressure points on your heel or ball of your foot and if you’re arches need support after sports (like high level pickleball) they are the BEST!!! And they’re washable!!!
I have been obsessed with air max's for awhile now... bought my first female pair of them a few years ago, and the difference is like night and day. The female ones are the most uncomfortable shoes I've ever owned, whereas the male ones get slaughtered for 10 hours behind a bar (constantly walking back and forth my entire shift) with zero issues. It's crazy
Agreed! Wore my air max to work (after breaking them in, and they were so damn uncomfortable by my 6th hour in. I decided to buy the mens size but same exact shoe/color and had a completely different experience yet was the same size shoe even with conversion 🤔
@vegasgirl9827 huh so this whole damn time they've been walking on clouds, and they're giving us material feeling like we're walking the plank every step of our lives. 😂
It’s even worse than that now. At least in some areas. I’m not allowed to sit unless I’m on break. At all. I do anyway because I’ve had a back injury but it’s usually only for a minute or two.
I found Oofos randomly via a vendor stall at an open air market in Hawaii about 10 years ago. I bought their original flip flops and they were easily the best I've ever owned. Sooo comfy.
I bought the shoes she wore in the OR because with my job i was on my feet all day. I almost got in trouble at work till i had a talk with the general manager. I was pleased that he was aware that what i was wearing was the best choice for a long day on feet.
mostly because the clogs are only for bottom support. the shoes from before are made for movement, so they have bottom and side support, as well as give at the toe bend. it’s just that the shoes are made for different uses
The toe box on the clogs is also much wider leaving room for you foot to spread naturally and allows room for swelling that occurs after being on your feet for extended periods of time. The sporty looking shoe isn’t even very well designed for sport it’s more of a fashion shoe.
I was a rep for Abbott and worked in the cath lab and had to wear lead and I waited to buy shoes until I got a good look at what everyone else around me was wearing. Went with danskos, unbelievable how comfortable they were but like someone before once you realize shoes have different purposes you understand why shoes for your HIIT workout are thin flat soled bc you’re jumping and need that control vs running does with wider fronts and extended soles w/ curves for impact and pushing off the pavement to run. Seems like a really obvious thing but if you’re not paying attention you can really mess up your feet which will cause you a host of problems for the rest of your life. My sister and mom swear by Vionic, highly recommend for everyday shoes made by a female orthopedist.
What most people don't realize is that we stand in one spot for HOURS. We aren't walking around. For me, my shoes need to light (as legs get VERY tired), wide toe box and backless so you can slip them off(without anyone else's help) for a second while standing.
I’m definitely gonna get these. I have flat feet I’m 44 years old and I was in a really bad car accident two years ago which ever since it is so hard for me to stand on my tile floors and or clean all day. OMG! I’m definitely gonna buy these. Thank you so much.❤
If you have flat feet how are you going to wear a shoe with a very high arch? Won’t that hurt? Anytime I wear a shoe with a high arch it hurts and I don’t even have flat feet.
As I have aged, I developed a major sensitivity to the section where the ties are. I have worn Aligrea shoes for 25 years. Heel is not high enough to throw me forward. I have backless, like yours, and loose backs. Multiple designs. Structure of the Aligrea shoes are firm, but not hard. Responds to your foot conditions-swelling, moisture, etc. when I graduated from nursing school, the Clinic shoe was very popular. Looked great on feet with so much support. They are still available now-the same style I wore.
As soon as I saw the Nike air max my feet went numb!! 🤦🏻♀️🤣 You look cool no matter what you’re wearing!! You’re bloody amazing!! Love from England 🇬🇧 🙋🏻♀️
Yet again I am surprised by the differences of our OR rules.. We go through "filter", where we get our shoes and clean scrubs, mask and hair net... When we're leaving the OR, we go back through a different room and take everything off, so it can be washed.. Also the shoes we get are hospital approved, antistatic shoes..special for the OR. We can't step inside OR in anything else, let alone trainers!
When I did a rotation in the or we had to wear hospital issued scrubs, masks, hair nets, and shoe covers but we could wear our own shoes. Granted I was just observing as a highschool student but the actually staff did the same thing they just had to scub in too
In my 40 years of nursing i went through so many shoes! I found Calzuro clogs. What a positive difference. Also compression stockings are a must. Retired now but still wear them especially when flying.
oofos are incredibly comfortable. i am a reflexologist and appreciated the reminder. In reflexology we recognize the connection between the brain and the feet and that makes Oofos especially beneficial imo
Ive never heard of Oofos im a new RN and my feet have been killing me and ive already spent way too much trying to find shoes that supposedly work great for nurses. Im definatly going to check these out. Thank yo!
OOFOS are a dream! I wear them around the house bc I do a lot of standing chores (cooking, prep, cleaning, etc). They have SO many styles (clogs, slip ons, sandals, etc). Worth every penny and I think theyre cuter than those Nikes.
Comfort is definitely #1 priority. Those shoes are super cool and i’m such a sneaker head and would definitely wear those but i’d want my surgeon to feel their best if I was the one getting surgery done:)
OOFOS have a special sole that is so far beyond any athletic shoe. They are made for athletes to wear after races/workouts/etc- recovery shoes. Hokas are beloved by many, but there's a difference between a comfortable walking/running/exercise shoe and Oofos.
