Brian Cox - "I don't believe in GOD" 🤔

Поділитися
Вставка
  • Опубліковано 15 лют 2024
  • Join physicist Prof. Brian Cox as he explains his understanding of the creator of the world or the answer to "DOES GOD EXIST"? He starts by explaining in terms of a cosmologist and how we know that the Universe was very hot and dense 13.8 billion years ago. Moreover, he answers whether or not we had a beginning in time. Additionally, they also discuss how science doesn't rule out the existence of a creator of the world. In addition to that, Professor Brian Cox says how he doesn't like antagonism about the question, "Does God exist?"

The idea of a god was created by humans to answer complicated questions that humans could not understand/answer at a time when everything was primitive.
    For example:
Human does not accept to die so he created a paradise where you live forever.
Human does not accept that a killer is executed and that It his sentence is over so he created a hell.
Human does not understand how the universe can be so big so he created a creator.
Human does not understand why humans are the only species that evolves quickly and not the others it is probably that someone put us there.
I think you get the idea but now that we have all the modern tools we understand that all this makes no sense that it was a primitive way to reassure/ manipulate people.

      Very simple reading of religion.
Maybe respect humans enough and other people enough to imagine that they weren't so simple in the approach?
So many different people, so many different cultures, different languages, different continents, different times. All have a connection to a divine.
Maybe there is more to it then - 'primitive man dumb, us clever'

      @@starkiller23610 Very simple indeed
      Culture? Created by humans.
      Language? Created by humans.
Continent? They were there before humanity.
Different time? Yes a time when man had no help no machine no rocket no telescope or computer to help them understand.
Being primitive does not mean being stupid they were primitive because they had nothing to understand except their brains and the brain can have a lot of imagination if it wants/need.
And humans have no connection to anything you’re here just because one day your parents had unprotected sex that’s all.

Since you say that the universe began to exist 13 billion years ago, then it must have a cause (cause and effect). And that cause by necessity should be uncaused. because if it had a cause, then you'll have the problem of the infinite regression that will make it impossible for the universe to exist. Example: you're in a library and in front of you a queue with infinite number of people, would you get the book? Never.
      So
Their brothers in humanity, that uncaused cause , we as believers call him God. Simple.

I see your point, however I find it hard to rule out a creator, due to the simple fact that we have intelligent life, and we experience emotions, and I think the fact that humans naturally tend to create things is reflecting the fact that Creation took part from a bigger part

Even if there was an answer to how the universe began, if it was created by an entity or if it just had always been, any answer we can think up not only doesn't make any sense to us from our current understanding of reality but also it doesn't seem likely we will ever be able to find an answer.

His point is "we don't know, so there is no logical basis to discuss it". End of story. To worry about stuff that cant be disproven or proven is not what a scientist does. And I completely agree there are lots of fake religions created to control people and extort resources from them. I was just surprised not all of them happened to be that. Also I thought this "personal discovery" was depicted VERY well in the "True detective" season 1. You also have a pragmatic main character. In the initial episodes they show phony religions. @@bryanbigler3339 My parents were atheistic, too. None of has been baptized. We've never attended any church meetings. We weren't fighting against faith, we just considered it a silly notion. Friends were telling me about their religion for a while. And they kept saying I need to pray to God and ask God, if what they were telling me was true. I genuinely considered that a futile idea, because I was absolutely convinced there was no one to pray to. No one to answer. God was just a fairy tail for adults. Friends kept saying I needed to pray, if I wanted to know the truth. Eventually, I started caring about those friends more and I decided that no matter how absurd their suggestion sounded it didn't really cost me anything to do it. So I decided I would actually try asking God, if what they were telling me was true. Just so that I could honestly tell them "I've tried what you asked and, as I expected, nothing happened". Obviously, I wasn't going to try more than once. Even once seemed bizarre enough. So one evening I just locked the door to my room (to not be disturbed) and asked out loud: "God do you exist and is what my friends told me about you true?". To my astonishment I've got my answer. They turned out to be right. Something I considered absolutely improbable. After an event like this you can't go back to not knowing. I understood there was another dimension to life I never knew existed. I've asked many questions since and received many answers. I always believed, if God existed everyone would have known about it already. Just because of how important that knowledge would have been. I believed people would have the same knowledge about God and would not have been arguing about God's nature and the purposes of God's interaction with humanity. I believe, it's because people often are just taught by their families to believe whatever their families believed or whatever happens to be the dominant religion in their country. Neither of which are an indicator of truth. Now I'm strongly convinced that the only way a person can know, if any information they come cross about God is true, is to ask God directly.

What Brian Cox is trying to say is, we're asking the wrong questions about the universe. Instead of wondering who created it, we should be asking if it was created at all, if it had a beginning, or if it needs one. He points out that we might be making a big mistake by trying to apply the rules we see inside the universe to the universe itself.
Let's use a simple analogy: think of a video game created by a developer. The characters in the game can only understand and question things based on the game's world, which operates under rules set by the developer. These rules might not at all resemble the rules of our own universe. For example, in our universe, every effect has a cause, but in the game, things might just happen without a cause if that's how the developer designed it.
Applying this to the universe, it's possible that the universe operates under a different set of rules and might even be eternal, not needing a cause for its existence. Just like we might think of a god as eternal to avoid an endless loop of questioning who created the god, we could think of the universe in the same way. It might have always been here, starting from what we perceive as a singularity and then expanding. The why and how of its existence and whether those questions are even relevant might be beyond our current understanding.

You could imagine the analogy of a circle. From an outsider perspective, we, humans, see the circle in it´s whole, as a geometrical shape. For someone living in the line of circle, however long he or it will continue on the line of the circle, he will go on forever, because it comes around infinitely. Someone living in the circle itself, could find the edge of the universe it lives in, name it the line, then come to the same conclusion.

Its simple people.....Whats the harm and what if its more than just numbers. Its a natural cause of higher thought that faith is produced to perpetuate "will" and the Universe (Cox) to ask Why in a seemingly deterministic Universe. Its cold to not "feel" past the edge. We assumed the Earth was flat, wrong. We thought we were the center of the solar system, wrong. We assumed we could not fly faster than sound, wrong. We now think light speed is a constant. A round world, the 3rd of 8 worlds at the edge of a small galaxy, breaking barriers everyday. We are always wrong until we are not. There is always another layer to existence. Why does there need to be a beginning in time to justify a God, may it be just a higher place making our layer be what it is naturally. Maybe its bigger out there, different rules different laws, different life (God). Rules that may even dictate Gods choices to create, similar to our daily creations (Machines). Similar to the rules that dictate the PC developer in a realm of space time creating a binary electronic universe in the computer game. Therefore, its shortsighted to believe the layers end at Cox simply because of the rule of time. Maybe Cox cant ever equate it. Could it be beyond our programming. Maybe over time our higher thought reveals a way of living that transcends instincts. We dream now, we believe in things we cant see. Maybe that's the start to enlightenment. Without that mental change it would have not allowed men like Cox to contemplate and equate what is equatable scientifically. It may simply be meant to believe not be discovered, not calculated. Different rules. Its worth the faith, just in-case.

At least he's not smug or arrogant about his viewpoint. That's more than I can say for most on both sides. I personally get the deep down feeling when I look around me that none of this is by accident or appeared out of nothing, and for me, that in itself is evidence that there's something much more complex beyond our surface interpretation of existence, life is something special and should be treated with care. Most world religions teach this at their core and I think it's imperative that we as human beings always maintain our faith that such teachings come from a higher place.
I used to think religion was simply for people who were too afraid to ask questions, but the truth I've found is that it's the people who deny the existence of God who are the ones too afraid to ask questions outside their own religion of "science".

    2. Read the apocalypse and the fact that Eufrat river went dry, micro tech chips and so on couldn’t have been guessed like ever. Even trying to treat this with maximum skepticism, the oldest person I knew was an aunt who died at almost 100 yrs old. She bad a bible much older than her. So let’s not say that it was written 2000 yrs ago. It’s enough even if those things were written 150 years ago. It’s literslly impossible that those facts, which they stated could have been guessed or planned. Back then we barely started the mass industrialization and at that time no one knew anything about nanotechnology for sure.
So honestly I still don’t know where’s the truth when it comes to this subject but I can’t deny the cosmologist’s facts, neither what I think it’s somehow logical with those Bible statements. It’s such a weird feeling not knowing were we come from and where we’re headed.

It is irrelevant question. Every thing that is created has a creator.
When you see a mobile phone, you see it is very well crafted and you think there must a creator of it. Then i tell you that this mobile phone is created by engineer/scientist. At that moment you dont ask who created the scientist. At that moment i just have to logically tell you how a scientist created this mobile phone.
Similarly if you see a table and ask who created it or made it, you are told that a carpenter made it. At that moment you dont ask who created carpenter.
So in conclusion, when a person is logically told that god made human, it is irrelevant to ask who created god. But yes, when we will se god after death (in afterlife) and we see him and think he must be created, at that moment it will be relevant to ask him who created god.

God is immaterial and outside of time or more accurately, in infinite time. In the beginning there was no space, time or energy, but there wasn't nothing as "nothing" is metaphysically impossible. The universe is either finite or infinite. If it is finite then it has beginning and therefore must have a cause. If it is infinite(unbounded), then it transcends time which is in the realm of the supernatural, because it will take an infinite amount of time to traverse it. Therefore God is the only logical explanation for the universe. God is an infinite being with no conceivable limits. He reshapes and rewrites reality in his image. He entered spacetime 2000years ago in the form of a man to redeem humanity from sin.

Science do not rule out a creator. But that does not mean that there has to be one. And, and that is even more important. It does not say anything at all about any properties of that unknown creator. The main problem with religions is that they are giving the creator/god detailed properties. Somehow we knows that it is blue and has an elephant trunk. Or we know that it does not want us to eat pork. All those detailed properties makes different religions totally incompatible. Also, nothing in today's more modern world give any support for the ancient claims. No burning bushes are talking to us today. But science is a religion.
It already presupposes that “nature is behind all” and can only give naturalistic answers.
Separating religion and science does not make sense, since science is indeed religious in favor of nature, but it cannot say where nature begins or ends, so it just presupposes that everything is nature.
However one thing that this hypothesis that “nature is behind everything” needs is time, which is why Charles Lyell’s uniformitarianism and Charles Darwin theory of common ancestry were widely accepted:
Because they defended the idea of the existence of millions of years.
Modern science wasn’t born with the desire to know the truth, but to completely be gone with the idea of there being a sentient creator and appeal to nature, while believing that this is unbiased and non religious, but it really is…
