Such GREAT videos!!!! My wife and I are newly retired from the Army and have started our retirement with this great hobby of fishing. Your videos are SO informative and are helping us finally be able to spend time together with something we love to do. My wife and I have spent so many years apart due to deployment and now finally this blessing of time together has happened. Your videos are so informative and your beliefs are awesome!!!!! Thank you for helping us learn and enjoy our beautiful country we live in.
Practice, practice and fine tune it for sure, specially when you change lures I think that's one of the great things about baitcaster, it is like each new lure is an adventure

Great video. Growing up in Colorado I’ve fished my whole life, but I’ve only been running a baitcaster for a year or so. So I don’t have the tricks of the brakes down too much. This was a super helpful video. Thank you!
Ive been fishing since i was 3, now I'm 34. All the backlash that's given to baitcasters and birdnesting turned me off to be honest. But watching your videos I'm going to buy one tomorrow. Thanks for the tips brother.
I was under the impression that I should be using MORE brakes for light lures because the initial momentum isn't carried by the lure . The spool will continue to spin fast (carrying initial momentum) but the light lure isn't pulling out line fast enough to keep up... I know a lot of this is easily fixed with thumb control but it seems like different vids have conflicting information.
This is my son's account so I'm sandra rathmann but My husband just got me a bait caster for my birthday and you have help me so much to learn the right way to cast, and set it. Thank you
@4:26 The Loch Ness Monster was behind you surfacing, waiting for that “Improvised Texas Rig” to fall right in front of its face. Thanks for these videos. I’m 24 and haven’t casted a baitcaster since I was 12, but my fiancé got me one for Christmas so I’m refreshing myself. This is exactly what the doctor ordered.
Thanks for the video series on baitcasters and how to use them. Daughter got me one for fathers day but gotta say it's been a little nerve racking. Great resource for sure!
Like it and I'll try it. But you should watch fly casting. The same concept works with loading. So, start just in front of you at three o'clock, wip back just above the hip, then up and forward at just above the shoulder and release. You kinda make a loop with the pole tip, the line, and the lure.
i remember casting incredibly lightweight lures with a baitcaster like a weightless roboworm, the trick was to start the cast with the rod tip behind you to gain as much leverage as possible and make sure you let the lure hang about 2 to 3 feet from the rod tip before you cast, i even remember using my baitcaster like a fly fishing set up to cast the lightest lures there are like weightless 3 inch berkley minnows.
Very informative video man. I grew up using baitcasters with my dad. I'd like to see a video about all your gear. All your rods, reals, go to lures, what setups you use to target different species. Would like to see what you have in your arsenal.

More bait caster tips. Picked up my first one at 59 and managed to creat a lot of birds nests. Is there a secret to using this reel. After 8 weeks have improved but not to where I'm comfortable.
Best tip from me is to use your thumb alot more. Time stopping the spool with your thumb the moment your lure hits the water. If you cast right and use your thumb it'll stop most birds nests.
Capt Joshua Sir, Baitcasters, you gotta love them, you Gotta HATE them! They cast far and accurate if you take the time to learn them. Even better, watch a UA-cam video by someone who knows what they are doing. Thank You for the tips. Appreciate you sharing your knowledge. Be Well my friend, Take Care and God Bless ✝
I’m new to baitcasters this was a good tutorial I was at my local lake here in so cal was getting birds 🦅 nest every other cast I’m getting it now tho lol 😝
When you are talking “light”, what weight range are we talking? I’m trying to throw 4g crank baits on a 2-4kg line weight rod and a curado 150dc. I’m finding it inconsistent (but I’ve only used it twice). I’m experienced with baitcasters but so far I’m struggling a bit.
If you if you turn your spool tension all the way off and turn your brakes up to about %60 to 70%, you'll get the best performance out of your baitcaster. I don't adjust my reels any other way now.
I enjoyed watching this video, but I would like to add that if you do all of the things that you talk about in this video and still aren't getting the distance that you want, you could swap the stock spool that came on the reel with a shallower one. A shallower spool doesn't require as much momentum needed for casting a lighter lure, so you'll be able to cast farther. I've swapped the spool out on one of my casting reels, the reel I swapped the spool out on is a 2014 shimano scorpion (JDM casting reel), and I put in a shallower spool and I immediately noticed that I was getting better distance with the same lures and lighter lures as well, because there isn't as much required momentum that you have to out into a cast.
Hi I'm sorry to have to say this but you have no Idea how to cast Can you tell me why you keep swoping the rod from left to right You are either left handed or right handed You and a lot of other people on UA-cam appear to be nether Think of all the fish you have lost By swoping that rod from hand to hand Apart from that the video was good 👍 Please explain Vinnie

You've sure showed me! I've ran all over the internet looking for baitcasting videos and wish I would have found yours first! Your the man lol!
All the fish in my pond are smaller so I need small lures, this vid made it possible to cast. My deck is also crowded so it’s hard to get momentum.

Awesome video like always captain. Looks like you have been hitting the gym. Looking fit
Getting there for sure, down 20lbs.

I’m looking for settings… brake, tension, and drag.
I have a 7 foot one is that okay or should I consider buying a larger one
So I could buy a ML rod and a bait caster for Ned rigging. I am trying not to go to spinning reals. What line weight would you use?
great lesson thanks
Preferred line type and weight for casting light lures?
What kind of rod are you using in this video?
Just got a abu garci revo x n cant get my bait to drop when im adjusting settings...got light crankbait but im wondering if reel is defective
in my area, fishing equipment is still very expensive, if I were sent fishing equipment like yours, I would be very happy..😂😂😂😂😀😀😀
Maybe one day!
@@Saltyscales thank you, best regards
what pound braid were you using?
Great overview - hopefully these tips rub off. Great video
Can you tell me what poundage line for the bait caster ?
Depends on the method of fishing and targeted species.
I just use my spinning rod for light stuff
What should your brakes be set to if you put on a heavier bait like a jig or spinner ?

How to determine the length of a bait caster pole
Where can I get a shirt like that? The brand looks 🔥
SaltyScales.com. I mention a code near the end of the video. 👍
I think you don't get longer casts with an X-fast rod using light lures. You need a moderate-fast/fast rod for that.
You know what they say about opinions. 🤣
@@Saltyscales Of course, but it's quite logical because a rod with a parabolic action loads better in general when the lures are light.
Watched all your bait casting vids. Very helpful!! Got a sub from me. More bait casting vids would be clutch!
why does it have the punisher logo on it?
Angular momentum
Bro ive tried code wont work
I have fixed it, my apologies. Try now. 👍
Lots of fish behind you I could just see them
Didn’t say what type and weight line you are using?🤔
What does the line have to do with the fundamentals of casting a baitcaster? Smaller diameter cast further.
@@Saltyscales sorry for the question! Won’t watch any more of your videos smart ass
I feel very dumb thinking that was a spin cast at first on the thumbnail

So you need a $400. Rod and reel combo to cast like that.
Sure don't but that is what I choose to spend my money on. 👍
