@@DEBOSFishing : your right in most cases, but not for some of us who were sprayed with Agent Orange and the Toxin is working on all parts of our body. I am one of the lucky ones and had several operations on things that could be. I am recovering from my second mitral valve. AO attacked the first one and then the replacement and I am recovering from another one that is slide in behind the last replacement to stop the leakage.
Others never survived the first one, or had a heart attack. Nothing can be done about the collapsing discs and many other things. Survived the brain tumor so far, after 5 weeks of radiation to stop the growth.
Had to give up my fully loaded 21' Stratos. Last thing was shutting down my pituitary gland and with that went a lot of balance among other things.
But 75 and living every day as much as back pain will allow.
I love to fish and some days only get a few casts in before I am shut down by pain. But try to be thankful I am outside and not back in a hospital room.
I never thought I would make 75 and hoping for one more summer.

For newbies: make a super long cast or before you go out, pull a bunch of line off, then take a piece of painters tape or electrical tape and put it over your line. Then reel the line back on. That way, if you get a backlash, and you will in the beginning, the line will not bury itself deep down into the reel and the backlash will be much easier to undo, because it won’t go below the tape level.

Bought my first bait caster this weekend and spooled it with about 30lb braid, and man was I surprised how unique and intricate these reels are. My first cast was out on the lake and spent the next hour un tangling my first bird-nest. I disassembled the reel and was impressed how complex it was. Long story short I took care of the tangled mess. Found my tension settings and used my thumb to add light pressure on the spool. Love how accurate and cool these bait casters are. Wish I would’ve watched this video before hand.

Back in 1953 my dad and I had reels from Sears.. JC Higgins, and they always back lashed. Fishing was a pain in the butt and we never caught anything but frustration. In 1960 we bought spincast and caught so many trout over the years. Now I am 73 and I live now in Italy where I just purchased a bait cast like yours. Thank you for saving me tons of frustration, I am sure to have less nesting, but expect it as all is new to me. Your tips were what I was looking for, and clearly taught by you. Ciao.

Every summer I rent a house in the keys, my five kids and wife all like to fish with me off our dock and I’ve always had trouble plainly explaining how to stop a birds nest from jumping out of the reel every time they cast. I’m looking forward to not having to cast everyone’s pole for them this summer, THANK YOU!!!!

Kaelin Boone lmao😂😂😂, I’m pretty novice when it comes to fishing and only have a few rods and reels(one I bought for myself) and I have two spinning reels but what usually happens is I’ll get all setup with my bait in the water ready to just fish myself and someone will come along and take the rod out of my hand, then another one gets jealous and eventually I turn into their fishing caddy, cutting bait, taking the hooks out of the fish they catch and everything else...... but I have a great time making memories with my boys and the wife and when I look at pictures all I remember is the fun part.

Ok, so I stopped fishing for like 10 years. Then I get back into it last year and I struggled with distance and Backlashes. Last weekend I was frustrated. So I watched this video and knew what I was doing wrong. So I went back to basics. Cleaned and oiled/greased my reel, and went out the the park to work on it. Got it almost dialed in. 3/8 oz about 25/30 yards with a decent cross wind. I was getting up to 45 yards with the 1/2 oz. Forgot to use my thumb and was cast straight overhead and didn’t even realize it. Thanks for the video.

When I was a kid, 38 now. I was about ten at the time, I lost my Grandfather. Wish I could have gotten to know him better and grown up with him more, but is life. He had a lot of fishing stuff and left it of course to my dad. He had so many of these bait caster reels that my dad inherited it was a literal smorgasbord of reels, lol. I remember being taken to the lake by my dad for the first time with one of these bad boys. I spent almost my whole fishing trip unraveling "the rats nest." I can still even all these years later remember the frustration and anger that I couldn't figure the thing out, and I was an avid fisherman at that age(still am, just catfishing mainly). Have not picked one up in 28 years. This was a pretty good explanation of how to use the reel. But, I will say you intrigued me to try out the reel again. I hear their very durable and dependable reels so hope all goes well. Thanks for the help and you now have yourself a new subscriber. Btw, if you see this and feel like answering because I know this is an old video, is their a bait caster that you would recommend for catfishing? Have a good one!

Life long spinning guy here who is just getting into baitcasters. I see a lot of spinning guys saying in comments that it's not worth the work and spinners are a lot easier. The learning curve might be less on a spinner, but even the most experienced of us will get some bad wind knots on spinners that require time to work out the same as bird's nests on baitcasters. They both have pros and cons. That said, if you took the world's most experienced baitcaster pro and the world's most experienced spinning pro, I believe the baitcaster would be able to nail slightly further, more accurate casts. Do the differences matter to the average fisherman, that's the real question.

Loved this, Im slowly getting into baitcasters and I kept backlashing my reel, thanks to you I have an idea now on how to control it and with time and practice, remove it from being an issue again. Thanks for being really informative and actually showing us what to watch out for!

Debo!!! Thank you for this video! I bought a baitcaster recently and watched a couple of your videos on how to cast and the one on how to fix that rats nest if it happens and your advice was very helpful. On my first outing with my new reel I was able to cast with confidence and yes I had just a couple of very minor tangles but worked them out and landed a couple of nice bass in the process. It’s kinda like driving stick, once you get the hang of it, you’ll never want to have it any other way!

Mr Debo...I have been fishing for 38 years and THIS is the very best bait-casting video explanation ever. It helped me to avoid some of my bad habits! I also learned your roll-cast technique. Wow! The best cast ever! I bought my 17 yr old son his first bait -caster and was ‘worried sick’ how to teach him to avoid back-lash...well I shall share this video with him. Thank you. I have just subscribed and will follow your videos!!! Keep us the excellent tutorials!

Used for the first time yesterday, took me about 3 casts to get the hang of it and got more and more used to it as the day went on, thanks to watching videos like this beforehand. I was a little intimidated to use one at first, because I didn't want to be spending my time picking out bird's nests, but for the small rivers and creeks that I normally fish on where I'm not trying to wing it every time, it was pretty easy to get used to. Now that I know I can fish with it, I'll take it to a lake and mess with the adjustments some, put it on my 6'6" rod and try to get some bomb cast out of it. Today, I used a Abu Garcia Black Max 3 reel with a 5'6" rod using the Whopper Plopper in loon color and caught 6 Rock Bass and 2 Small Mouth Bass before my trip got cut short by thunderstorms.

This was a fantastic tutorial with great advice. Nicely done! I find that I backlash waaaaay more when I try the overhand/overhead cast. I tend to sort of jerk it a little mid-cast, and it gets ugly real quick. *ONLY* using the sidearm and roll cast is the key for me.

    • @DEBOSFishing
      @DEBOSFishing  5 років тому +1

Nathan Cross yep. People tend to throw the bait high when overhand casting...then it stalls or jerks...and NEST! The sidearm/ roll keeps the bait lower to the ground and people usually don't throw it as hard. Thanks for watching my friend, appreciate your support!
