this is a stunning work of art. All the time, precision work and patience to make ships like this is something alot of people, myself included can't fully appreciate. Also agree with you about never putting ships like this into the water. However, i do believe if someone actually did put it in the water, it will hold the water outside, but with the lack of ballast at the keel it would most likely capsize as the center of gravity would be too high without any counterweight at the keel.
Thank you very much for your kind words! You are probably right, without any counterweight it will probably capsize. Another good reason to never put it in water!

Also to change the way you do the planking from a point and down. If you watch the videos i made for Montanes and Santisima for the planking you will understand it. And the outcome is amazing :)
Absolutely stunning ! I am working on the San Francisco II model and was wondering what substance you used to fill the gaps in the hull planking? The brown will match my ship's hull beautifully.
Thank you very much Henri!!! I used wood putty (water based). wow tha's a fantastic model, i'm making the San Francisco from artesania latina, i am also a begginer at this, please John could make a video about how you paint your models specially the metal parts, i would thank you so much. you are great, Saludos desde Peru :D
Thank you very much!!! San Francisco is a beautiful model! I will make a video at the next model i'll make. For now i can only tell how to do it. For the wooden parts you have to use first a coat of wood sealer, then after it's dry you sand it down and you use the paint or the varnish. For all the parts i use 2 coats of varnish or paint except from the masts and yards which i use one. For the metal parts i use paints from Humbrol or Revell. Always 2 coats and before i apply the paint i use some thinner in analogy paint 80%-85% ,thinner 20%-15%. To paint the cannons you have to use some pointed tip toothpicks to lay the cannons on because you wont't be able to hold them from anywhere. After the paint will dry , you will have to use a coat of varnish on every metal part. I use paintbrushes in various sizes, the smallest one is 10/0.
Great work.I have been following your videos and they are great. I bougth the same kit and is collecting dust in my home since I had other projects that I am currently working on.Your model is breath taking. So how many hours a day did you invest in building it? and how many ships did you build before San Juan Nepomuceno?
Thank you again! Some days i worked almost 10-12 hours. Some other days i worked 4-5 hours and some just 3 hours but never less than 3 hours. It took almost 4 months to complete it. This is my 13th model, it is very beautiful but i must confess that it was not the most difficult or the most beautiful model i ever made. That one was Santa Ana!
I think you put together a really nice product given the quality of that kit. I personally prefer to finish with danish oil to retain the warmth of the wood but as you said, to each their own. :). What’s the next build?
Thank you very much! I am currently building Santisima Trinidad by OcCre. And this time i made something different, i am making a video for each step of the procedure. Here is the playlist and the 1st video is the unboxing ,enjoy : ua-cam.com/video/_YXH03Btauk/v-deo.html

Hi John thanks for your reply. I have just bought Artesania Bounty as it was on a special here in Australia $170 0f normal price. If it turns out half as good as yours I will be happy.
Hi Peter! She is going to turn up great! But be careful, every single model i ever made from Artesania had parts missing and a lot of mistakes in the instructions. Always read ahead.
If i could rate Artesania with a 10 i 'd give a 9 in Occre, pretty close but some wood strips of a specific wood type weren't much good. I 'd give every other company though a number from 7 and i would descend.

wow tha's a fantastic model, i'm making the San Francisco from artesania latina, i am also a begginer at this, please John could make a video about how you paint your models specially the metal parts, i would thank you so much. you are great,
Saludos desde Peru :D
Beautiful work
Thank you very much!!!
excellent work.. i enjoyed watching the video...
Thank you very much!!! Check out my current project in this playlist, you're going to love it!!! ua-cam.com/video/_YXH03Btauk/v-deo.html
un trabajo fino y elegante
Thank you very much!!!
Ya lo Tengo armado excelente definición de las piezas
Yes it's a very beautiful model, thank you very much!
very good job. what clear varnish did you use ??? I build the same ship
Thank you very much!!! Just a clear gloss varnish for yachts. :)
Nice work 👍👍
Thank you very much Carlos!!!
Fan-damn-tastic ! Beautiful
Thank you very much Sharon!!!
Very good work... looks like Le Superbe from the FRANCE.
Thank you very much!!!
Nice job captain
Thank you very much!!!
Here is the playlist and the 1st video is the unboxing ,enjoy : ua-cam.com/video/_YXH03Btauk/v-deo.html
nice work!
Thank you very much!!!
What song was used in this video
The 1st part is Waltz of the Flowers by Tchaikovsky and the 2nd part is William Tell Overture by Rossini.
well done sir!
Thank you very much!!!
Respect
Thank you very much!!!
Oh my god that is fabulous fantastic I'm speecheless you are great at this do you post such contents regularly? I have been searching so much to look at how the rigging works. we are working at a project about ships and their riggings this helped me a lot can you also show the blueprint you used I would love to see the blueprint in the next video please lots of love from India
Thank you very much for your kind words!!! I do post regularly but now i am waiting for my new model. The Virus situation all over the world made things difficult for everyone. Take a look at the following playlist, i believe you are going to find it very interesting : ua-cam.com/video/_YXH03Btauk/v-deo.html .Unfortunately i do not have the blueprints anymore.
@@JohnsWoodenShips yes it did I watched like 25 videos in 2x speed and I commented there as well thanks a lot if u post on insta as well I will follow u there just tell me where can i find you thanks once again and when I'm done with my I will definitely send it to u and I hope this pandemic goes down soon. ☺

WOWWWWW BEAUTIFUL !!!!!!!!
Thank you very much!!!
Always read ahead.
excelente trabajo algo costoso pero valió la pena ahora lo mas difícil buscar una vitrina para que no se empolve
Thank you very much for your kind words!!! I have build a display case with spot lights already!
Maravilloso. Me fascina
Thank you very much!!!
NOW THAT'S FREAKING SWEET .

Thank you very much!!!
How long did it take to build this ship??
The time i needed to make this model was approximately 4 months with hundreds of working hours.
@@JohnsWoodenShips Amazing job!!! Thank you for sharing.
@@The_Nameless_Entity Thank you very much!!!
It's amazing !! thanks
Thank you!!!
que hermoso, benditas tus prodigiosas manos
Thank you very much for your kind words!!!
Hi John, just another question. Which manufacturer do you think has the best quality wood etc. Occre or Artesania.
If i could rate Artesania with a 10 i 'd give a 9 in Occre, pretty close but some wood strips of a specific wood type weren't much good. I 'd give every other company though a number from 7 and i would descend.
@@JohnsWoodenShips Thanks for your reply.
Amazing video, amazing job! Congratulations.. Are you thinking of another model you want to make?
Thank you very much! Yes, the next one will be Santishima Tinidad by Occre, but it will be a while.
@@JohnsWoodenShips John Aliprantis I have a question.. soon I will be finishing my first ship model - Golden star.. It's difficulty: 2.. Can you recommend me some model I could do next? I was thinking about this model www.victoryshipmodels.com/ship-model-victorx-720-wooden-static-kit-mantua-nelson-flag-ship.html ... But if you can advice me something better for similar price I will be glad :) I want it to be historical sailboat.. Thank you very much!
@@xmangofenix7883 The HMS Victory is a beautiful ship! Personally i do not like the quality of Mantua models. I have made one and only and i did not like it very much. I have made the HMS Victory by Constructo (www.constructo.es/index.php?id_product=1411&controller=product) back on 2003 but even then it was 330 euros and it was in a different scale. My next model will be from Occre so i would recommend something like this one : www.occre.com/model-ship/la-candelaria.html
Thank you very much! It's beautiful model, it looks like I will buy it :D I wish you good luck in building next models :)
@@xmangofenix7883 You're welcome! I hope you'll enjoy building it! :)
Bravo!
Thank you very much Edward!!!
Excellent video thanks.love the music to 👍George in Uk
Thank you very much!!!
it looks amazing! Honestly though, I wouldn't know where to put it afterwards, it looks rather big :)
Thank you very much!!! It is big, it's over a meter long (over 3 feet). I had the place to put it before i started making it!
Hi John, I started building the San Juan ship model. What do you use for varnishing the second and third decks? do you use any color or stain or just a sealer? Thank you
Hello! I use nitro wood sealer number 1419 as undercoat and clear gloss varnish for yachts after. 2 coats of varnish that is :)
@@JohnsWoodenShips Thank you John. Your videos are very helpful, especially the ones that show the mistakes in the schematics and drawings.
Do you have a video for the best approach for hull planking?
@@saadsoliman5487 I have 2 full series , check them out, this one is still going : ua-cam.com/video/K_KVMiSyBxU/v-deo.html
and this one is done : ua-cam.com/video/_YXH03Btauk/v-deo.html
Hi, John my father have the same model and I’ve got question, how you mount guns inside hull, because there is no clear instructions inside building book?
Hi Lucas, the cannons for the lower decks are mounted from outside, they do not have a body.
@@JohnsWoodenShips did you do any support for guns from the lowest deck? Or this black line of support inside ship is enought?
@@boro6902 The "black line" is enough, no need to add anything else.
That's realy cool.
Thank you very much!!!
Glorious.
Thank you very much!!!
Very impressive, I wish I knew how to do this. A instruction book is a small part. You really need to know what you are doing.
Thank you very much! Check out the following playlists, they are a complete guide of how to build one : ua-cam.com/video/K_KVMiSyBxU/v-deo.html

It’s a absolutely beautiful ship. My anxiety would probably get the best of me. I’ll stick to lego building. Or start with a small ship. Any suggestions?
