    I picked up a consumer grade Panasonic recently with component and was blown away with how good the image is. Panasonic doesn't get talked about as much as JVC and Sony. Nice to see it getting some spotlight.
    I've heard that some of the JVC tvs have Panasonic tubes in them but I can't verify it. Supposably the two JVC tvs I own have Hitachi and Thompson tubes in them but honestly they look virtually identical to my eye.
    Loved the intro. Pretty funny.

      Thanks! Hitachi made some great tubes as well, Both of my 14" Ikegamis have hitachi tubes and they are very nice.
      I also have a 27" panasonic tau in the solder room that has component, I agree... they are very nice and dont get talked about enough.

    Man I loved my JVC BM-H1900SU, Sold it once I got my BVM-20F1U. Those 20” shadowmask professional/broadcast monitors are 🔥
    The JVC BM-H1900SU is the monitor you were thinking of that is the rebrand

      Awesome, I couldnt remember the model num... So do you regret getting rid of it? How do they compare against the 20" BVMs? Are they comparable? I would guess the sony would have more pronounced scanlines and sharper picture lines where the JVC/Pani is more blended.

    • @liljaygray
      @liljaygray 2 роки тому

      Lame Gaming Lame Gaming I don’t regret selling it as it helped pay for my BVM! But that JVC monitor is definitely one I can recommend to anyone. It’s softer because of the shadow mask so more comparable to a 600TVL PVM. I had a PVM-2030 which was 560TVL at the same time and they’re pretty similar, but the JVC was definitely a little sharper.

      Yeah that was a decent haul, Made another good one recently Im still trying to get the edit done on the footage. A 20m2u,14m2u, a bunch of smaller pvm/bvm's, and a 2030. Had the chance to grab a 17" multiformat JVC too but damnit everything multiformat is expensive. Those high tvl shadowmask tubes are super nice, hope you can pick one up eventually, would love to hear your opinions.

    • @LameGaming
      @LameGaming  2 роки тому

      Yeah, and sadly most people getting into crts never get to experience these nice curved masked tubes... they go straight for a sony and get nothing else. Nothing against sony.... They have a nice look, at this point I plan to daisy chain rgb through various different makes of crts so I can play on whichever type im in the mood for lol.

    • @koeihiroko3622
      @koeihiroko3622 2 роки тому

      @@LameGaming yeah, all those youtubers and CRT "elitist" is to blame... they just hype up the retro market and inflate the price of PVM/BVM to much.
      Imho, a good shadow mask crt tv and PC VGA monitor could perform better if not better than PVM/BVM as fraction of the price.
      One down side of PVM/BVM that people dont normally mention or admit is that it's not suitable to view in bright room because it was designed for dark studio setup. On bright room, I can't barely see anything

    • @LameGaming
      @LameGaming  2 роки тому

      @@koeihiroko3622 Honestly it depends.
      This panasonic 20" broadcast monitor is super bright, and so is one of my sonys but it had a new tube installed in 2010.
      I think the problem is alot of people lust over pvms and dont take into account the tons of hours those things were on for and alot of them have dim tubes due to many years of heavy use.
      I agree about not really needing them though. They are nice and great to have if you can get them easily and reasonably priced. I got super lucky on meeting who I did and getting great deals but I just recently did a comparison of my 20" broadcast against a cheap philips crt that was rgb modded and honestly id be happy with the consumer rgb modded set if I couldnt find a pvm/bvm/pro monitor.
      www.reddit.com/r/crtgaming/comments/sqxgw3/do_you_really_need_a_pvmbvmpro_monitor/?context=3
      Also i agree about pc vga crts but Ive found them to more along the lines of being dim and designed for use 1ft away from users face in a dim room. But the magic happens when you feed them 120Hz 240p signal. The phosphor persistence is doubled due to doubling the framerate making the image super bright and vibrant with scanlines.
      Alot of people say this creates image blur but its almost negligible and the image is on par with a fantastic example of a pvm.
      That 36" jvc tube really blows me away as well, geometry surprised the hell out of me and its amazing to play on now with rgb although you do notice blooming on consumer sets.
      Im happy to of had and test all these different flavors of crts, but i agree if all you can find is a consumer set or pc crt, if you can rgb mod and run 120Hz 240p respectively.... Your 85-90% there and the extra 10% may not be worth it if you have to pay crazy ebay prices.

    • @LameGaming
      @LameGaming  2 роки тому

      @@TA-qq6xy Yeah, my 40 series sony pvms have pretty dark phosphors, I notice their black levels are a smidge blacker than the monitors I have with lighter phosphor coatings but they have better white balance. CRTs are all a compromise and thats why its nice to have different tubes.
      Ive never seen the HD Ikegamis in person, I bet they are awesome! Are they multi format and can run 240p content as well?

    • @LameGaming
      @LameGaming  2 роки тому

      @@TA-qq6xy Yeah I havnt calibrated anything other than by eye but noticed all my darker tinted tubes seem to reach a better black level which makes sense because the black level produced on crts is just areas of the screen not being illuminated or hit with the electron beam,
      But on the 4 ikegamis and several panasonic pro monitors with much lighter phosphor tint... Their blacks dont get quite as deep but have noticed when ran side by side next to dark tinted tubes that on the darker tubes the whites can be just as bright but are a shade or two "dirtier" of a white where the light tinted screens whites seem super crisp and more pure of a white. I figured it was similar to how black levels work but in reverse.
      Just something I noticed and assumed the lighter phosphor color allowed a more pure white level to be produced.
      Not saying im right, just something ive noticed on all these monitors and so assumed it was due to phosphor tint
