I'm going to date myself here, lol, but when I was little on the farm, my auntie and I would go scavenging for the Glass "topper" of old power and phone lines. We would use the oven to Ice technique to crack these as well. My goodness they were always so beautiful. I still have an entire chest of drawers filled with these beauties just waiting for "crackling" (my aunties word for it). Absolutely beautiful what thick sturdy glass, some heat and a bucket of Ice can produce 💕🤍✨ I miss her so much... Everyone thank an auntie today for all they've given of themselves to another's child. ✨Rest Peacefully Auntie✨
With some modifications to use today, what a cool craft idea to pass down to someone else like your Auntie did for you! Wonderful story. Your Auntie sounded like a gem! You learned how to do something and you have wonderful memories to go along with that.
My Mom’s uncle would get the old blue marbles, bake them until they cracked and then make decorative glasses, plates, etc. Looked similar to depression glass. My aunt still has a lot of the pieces he made ♥️
My dad use to have tree trimming business in Oklahoma in the 70's . He had contracts with Bell telephone to remove over growth on the lines. So we would get those too. They definitely are pretty.
That is ingenious and beautiful. My supervisor is retiring after 22.5 years. I e worked with her for less than a year and I've wanted to show my appreciation for her patience, empathy and willingness to take a chance on an obviously emitionally broken and damaged homeless guy, like me. I think that I have found something I can attempt to create and give to her. Thank you.
When I was a kid, back when the earth was just beginning to cool, in the 1950's and early '60's, there was an absolute craze for "fried marbles". Dollar store gems were not yet a thing, nor were dollar stores, and most girls used a skillet instead of the oven, and used multicolored transparent glass marbles. They used this technique, and then made jewellery out of them. You were absolutely nobody if you didn't have some fried marble jewellery. I expect these could be used that way as well; it did then and does now make an awfully pretty effect.
I was babysitting for $ back in the 60&70's, I was just thinking about this because my grandsons go some marbles for Christmas. I took some of the little boy that I was babysitting for and showed him how to make his marbles beautiful by cracking them. He wasn't as thrilled as I was and his parents never called me again.
This is one of the better resin geodes I've seen, and I've seen a lot of them. If you were to take a grey or brown matte paint to the sides of the piece, on the outside, it would make it look even more like a geode because it would look like the rock that you see before you breat them open. Just an idea to make it look that little bit more realistic. You could even use a sponge to layer a few matte greys/browns to give it an even more realistic rock look.
For those asking, Amazon sells geode shape molds out of silicone that would work. I can't seem to find the acrylic shape she used but you would get similar results with a silicone mold.
I remember my Grandmother doing this craft back in the '60s. She would heat up clear marbles on the stove then put on ice. Used them to make jewelry. Lots of people did it. BTW I like your projecto better from the back side. Looks so much cleaner and natural than the front
This is very similar to what my sister and I did back in the late sixties to make jewelry. Fried marbles. After, we would make cuff links( I still have a pair) necklaces’s etc. you could buy findings at Lee Wards . Or attach fishing line to a few and hang like sun catchers. I miss my sister, we always did fun things like this together, beaded flowers was another. I showed my granddaughter, now sixteen, how to make those.
Frustrating to share without a list of things you used. ESPECIALLY that plactic cut out which is impossible to find. To use silicone molds is much different than these pre made. One the size.. and product amount you would used secondly. When pouring large amouts of resins in molds there is a lot of room for error, bubble, and the list goes on. Please if you would so kindly tell your viewers , where to purchase the peel off resin pre made molds. Thank you
It really has potential! Like you mentioned, I definitely think smashing the perfect little round gems into pieces would make this look much more realistic. As soon as I see those little glass rocks, I automatically think ‘Dollar Tree DIY’ (I’m kinda over them) and the boring, non-transformational projects with which they’re always used. This project is (finally) a refreshing new idea but those little gems would look like a real geode if they were like little glass shards.
@@claireconover Lol! Then just treat it like a cactus. 😊 Seriously tho…you could just be sure to level the resin overlay high enough to encapsulate the highest shard. Danger averted. Problem solved.
6 mins and 43 seconds I’ll never get back ! What the heck did I just watch ? Biggest waste of time I’ve ever seen ! “Use a a server tray” REALLY…. There’s a hole in it ! 🤦🏼♀️
If you break up the marbles, that would have been pretty as well. Also a turquoise one would be pretty. It would make a nice wall bookcase or shelf decor piece. Either way. It's very pretty. TYFS
I really love this. Where would I buy/find the acrylic shape you used in your tutorial from? Please list all products used and where to buy them. Thank you. Looking forward to seeing more of your projects.
A link to where to buy the geode form would be helpful. And are these different resins or paint, ie the pearl, or did you add materials to the resin yourself?
This is really, really pretty! ...so if I put four "feet" on four "corners", the piece - the plate, if you will - will be strong enough to hold things? You mentioned using it as a serving tray. Thanks for sharing this!!
This is why I live Hometalk! The best ideas ever! That’s so pretty. And you can make so many different colors! Wow! Only limited by your imagination. Thanks for the idea! So pretty. ❤️💜💚

I wouldn't use E6000, that's just not the right type of glue for that. BUT Clear Gorilla glue would hold forever and be perfect! Maybe some shooter marbles, even bigger. Great idea
Where did you get the base/clear glass/ plastic you are putting the glass stones on and resin? Beautiful piece. I couldn’t tell that was a gold line in the white, guess my eyes need to be checked on a bigger and bolder line made.
When i was kid in the early 1950's we made jewelry and sold it at church. With marbles that you " fried " in a skillet then put into ice water. The jewelry was called fried marble jewelry. The back doesn’t have the gold lines, could thin gold be put on then covered with the white etc as well as having the gold on the top of the other colours so you have it showing on both sides? It would make it more reversible.
So much safer then when I heard how to do it. Put them in a pan on the stove heat, when hot turn off heat then pour water on them, crackle, crackle, pop. and we didn't have google to double check, that was the 60's. We didn't always think of safety first, someone would bring something in to show what they did over weekend and all most everyone would try it out. Flower, fruit, and whatever they could come up with. Things have improved. LOL

That IS beautiful! I think I would use real crystal pieces though instead of the glass globs but if you want to use it as a tray, you might want to have another piece of the clear acrylic to adhere to the bottom so you have that hole covered.
She showed the resin brand at the 2:25 mark. I believe the "colors" are mixed powdered mica into the small cups of the clear resin which is what I have seen other people use in resin pours. The powders come in all kinds of colors and you only need a tiny bit when mixing so be careful not to add too much to start. You can always mix in more until you get the desired deepness in color. Good luck! I hope she will tell us where to find that acrylic piece!!!
Thanks for the video BUT, you MUST wear protective glasses when these go into the ice!! You won’t like the damage just 1 of those fragile stones can cause if it explodes.
