was reading about DRDO develping its own AIP 10 years ago. Inda media and culture in general is so deceptive , lazy and embarrasing its pathetic

without it, it's just a regular (noisy) sub.
The AIP system has already been developed and tested, but the first two submarines do not have it because construction was already very advanced and it could not be added to those submarines. The Indian Navy has come to check the operation of the submarine and the AIP system. As the submarine design is adapted to carry the AIP, it will be placed on the first two submarines during their first overhaul, in 5 years. The other two that are being built will have the AIP installed.

Its testing design finalization and full deployment looks to be at least 7 to 10 years away -- assuming all goes well.
Nothing can be built until it's functional and safety certification is complete.
This is an R&D project for now.

If it is Not a nuclear stealth sub with more than 100 days duration and armed with hypersonic cruise missiles, it is as obsolete as India.s brass hats and naval doctrine.
India knows how to build nuclear powered submarines that has longer range and better propulsion. Why not build some more of those? Why procure from other countries?
