To be 100% this was probably the most historically accurate representation of what it meant to be a pirate. Never take a fight you can’t guarantee victory in, and run like hell if you find the odds slipping out of your favor. Also tricking others into doing the work for you.
I was once being chased by a Brig for a long time, then I came across a Galleon and yelled at them "There's a brig over there" and they went past us and sunk the Brig. Then they gave us all their loot and left.
I didn't know this was a small channel. This really has big channel vibes and honestly, keep it up and you'll find yourself becoming huge. Got a sub from me. Also this helped a lot since I suck at combat
One thing to keep in mind that will help you with all combat is you trying to set the terms of combat if you know you're going to have to fight choose where you're going to fight and how you're going to fight
Awesome content! Started playing SoT a few weeks ago and your videos are some of the best I've seen. Solo sloopin is fun but I am terrible at PVP so appreciate the tips here haha.
Sometimes 2 reapers show up right after you solo an ashen captain and you gotta hide your loot beside a sea rock while also staying out of sight of the reaper sloop that's currently destroying your ship that has NO loot because you put it all on a rowboat that you found beside the island There's no need to pvp when you can be sneaky
as somebody who has taken a vow never to attack others unless absolutely necessary (both IRL and in video games when possible), this video is quite helpful!

Had a chaser on me so i passed by a Brigantine yelling for help in exchange of my treasures and any that the chaser might have. They accepted, so we destroyed the chasers and the loot was transfered. It's these interactions that makes Sea of Thieves much more than a mindless PvP game, and i love it.
I love storms for getting rid of chasers when I'm slooping it. It seems so few outside of dedicated Solos and competent galleons seem to know how to handle a storm and chase someone through it especially if you are running completely dark.
I use a strategy I call Island Juking. If you find yourself being chased, make sure you stay on top of the direction of the wind. Find the nearest large island, like Thieves Haven or Smugglers Bay. Once you get near the Island, keep close eye of which direction the enemy is going and make your way around the island out of sight. They will either follow on the same path or go around the other side. Once you have an idea of what direction they're going, raise your sails and turn the ship in the opposite side relative to the enemy. Wait a moment for them to get around the island and when you think they are just around the corner, drop the sails and do a harpoon turn around the Island and sail directly away. If there is one of the large pointy rocks, get around that out of sight and continue sailing forward. This can either put large space between you and the enemy or confuse the enemy into losing you. The ones I last did this to had the bright idea to make landfall and they lost me.
was getting chased by another brig, i cranked the wheel all the way right and had my friend drop the anchor. we drifted to where they were facing our broadside and lit them up with cannon fire. ive never seen a ship get sunk that fast. felt like i was in a movie lol.
I’m only halfway through the video so I’m not sure if he mentions this but guys, if you’re in a sloop and a brig or galleon are chasing you, have your sails pointing straight ahead and sail directly into the wind. Those ships won’t be able to catch up to you

Glad I found your channel, last night I had trouble with a sloop who for some unknown reason decided to chase me down as I was doing a gold hoarders voyage, after a few miles I realized I was between them and a storm so I decided to do something crazy, I had a keg below decks so I got it and had to align my dive with their ship, moved over a little but I was perfectly in line when they came up to me while I was in the water. I was spotted but they missed with their shots and I lit the fuse and clicked my mic on under them and said “bad decision following me” and BOOM!, don’t think they sunk but the storm definitely gave them problems, never saw them again
"some unknown reason"......... ur what wrong with this game...... the reason was they saw a player ship and said im tried of doing the same three pve mission types and actually wanna pvp on a pirate game that has 5 ships max on a server..... no reason 🤦🏽♂️
Here's my personal tips when I run with loot cause I don't wanna lose it all lol if your sloop always go against wind the gally and brig r so fast with wind passing by forts and barrel piles for keg plays boarding with a keg and killing all on ladder will usually sink them also using cannons at forts last option is just turn and fight sometimes u win sometimes u don't

I'm always amazed to see so many other ships, be it players or skeletons, in the video of content creators. I feel like I only meet one every few hours, and then it's usually "kill on sight" :/
Sometimes this works. You can throw gunpowder kegs over board and if your chasers keep chasing you in a straight line then they can run into the kegs causing them to explode. This rarely works but you can put a couple of kegs in a rowboat and row to the enemy ship and blow up the kegs once to reach the hull.
I finished watching this video, booted up sea of thieves, then found myself in a chase 30 minutes in. Since I watched this video, and with a little luck, I managed to get away! Thanks!
This is quite late, but I used to hate storms until I realized others do too. I mostly am solo and whenever I get chased and there is a storm around I usually head straight through it and They either bail as they see what I am doing or get lost in the storm.
Me and a friend once got chased while we had around 100k in loot, and no skills in combat. So we did the only thing we could do. We went with the wind all the way to the edge of the map and sailed around the red sea JUST at the boarder where it instantly teleports you back. And while we knew how far we could go on the map. Our opponents did not, and also was scared to even go into the red sea. So they stayed out of it just chasing us from outside. And since we had the patience and resources to stay out there, we did. And stayed until they got distracted by a skeleton ship. Found our hole and snuck out and just bolted to the furthest away outpost from our attackers. We managed to sell, and it was just all around fun
When running from players while we do anchor the chasers, me and my friend tend to actually turn their ship the other way after killing them all, so that they sail away from us and we take some of their supplies and set their ship on fire. It's worked a few times where they keep going the other way and I'm wondering if they haven't realized they have turned away or if they have just given up.
earlier today i was being chased by a gold emi while stacking. i was running away for ages and he kept catching me. then he got krakened. i got stuck in ink aswell but he had to fight. he beat the kraken, then sunk. this left me with all the loot

I came to Sea of Thieves for the sea shanties, stayed for the fact that I can get blackout drunk and play shanties off key while vomiting on my instrument and everything around me.
Love this thank you. I'm a solo player. I really want a good crew to play with however I'm a introvert sooo I end up playing by myself alot. I dont get chased often these days but long ago when I had no treasures I would lure them into red sea if they were not paying attention they would be in to far to turn around. Surprisingly worked well if you can keep up the repairs.
I have a kinda fool proof way to get rid of chasers: Be more risky than they can accept. Ie, go directly through the heart of storms, pass directly alongside volcanoes and go straight through ghost ship fleets. You lose people real fast if you act insane.
Okay I’ve been meaning to get this rant off my chest and I feel like this is a good time. The community of this game can be so obnoxious ngl, but your channel gives me hope. You are someone who truly understands the point of the game. It’s to make money. Yes you fight for that money it’s not always gonna be easy. But you’ll often see two types of people. The ones whining for private servers and complaining about “toxicity”. And then you have the people who love to spawn kill, troll, and talk down to the people who prefer pve in such a pretentious way. Idk man I love this game more than anything but the community can just be annoying sometimes. It won’t stop me from playing though. It’s been years and I’ve met some pretty great people as well. Just felt like I needed to rant a bit. Let the pve and pvp live in harmony.

Just get guud. I mean honesty running is the thing I’m best at with sea of thieves. You have the Initiative in picking direction as long as you know your boats strengths when dealing with the wind. Even solo. Pick a turn, turn the wheel half, while it’s turning get your sail in position for where the wind will be. Then get back on the helm. It may take some time but your enemy’s will drop off once they know they just can’t catch you.
Easiest way is to just sail past Morrows peak then then around and go north. Once your ship is hidden jump off (not cannon so they don’t hear you) and vote for shores of gold. Run straight into the red sea towards the island and they can’t do anything if they come for you they’ll never be able to follow you around that massive island without you getting a leas to pull of a booard
As a combatively incompetent, lonely solo slooper that somehow reached pirate legend and picked up nothing from ship battles, I found this very interesting. As far as I can tell, having a microphone reduces the chance that a player you approach will attack you
The best advice I can give anybody for combat on save thieves whether it be ship based or on the ground or against PVP or PVE always try and put the fight in your favor fight on your terms not their terms
Today I chased a brig after they kept coming back to me after being sunk multiple times while I was trying to sell solo. They sunk me once and ran. Eventually recruited a galleon and we hounded those bastards for an hour. Eventually they anchored and I was able to sink them solo.
Once I completed the shrine of tears, and I got killed about 5 times from a galleon, in the same spot, like dam they really wanted something, atleast they were a good sport
I've been playing since 2018, and I enjoy PvP as much as the next guy and with fight tooth and nail to defend my loot, but this is my opinion and I feel this is the best place to share it. I've noticed a trend, in most likely the vocal minority part of the PvP crowd, that people think that since this game has PvP in it, you have to engage with that part of the game and if you don't you are a loser or whatever the fuck. See. the moment someone actually tells me "you have to fight me" I will tell them "no I don't" and will run away from them, perhaps in the direction of an active fort or galleon for some skeleton shenanigans to distract them while I make my escape, or if they are _really_ bad then I'll collect their loot after they sank to a fort tower. In any case, if Rare wanted to force people to fight, running wouldn't be an option. Yes, this is a game with PvP in it, but it isn't _only_ a PvP game. If I don't want to bother fighting other people and simply want to do some (damned) Hunter's Call commendations, then why am I any less right for wanting to do that, over someone else who wants to fight me? Do I simply not get a choice on this matter? Why do I have to fight someone if I don't want to? Let's flip the script: That'd be like me going around and forcing other people to grind Hunter's Call even though they would rather be doing something else, like PvP for instance. It sounds kind of stupid when you say it like that, right? If so, people should take just as much issue with the phrase "forcing people to do PvP when they'd rather be fishing." Another point, if someone is running away without even trying to fight back, then they are self-admittedly not good at PvP _because_ they are running; they don't have any confidence in their ability to win. Therefore, even if they didn't run, the person instigating the fight wouldn't get any real enjoyment out of it because the reason they fight is for the fight itself. But it wouldn't be a fight, it'd be a slaughter, and people shouldn't be forced to be a lamb to someone else's butcher, and hunter's get bored of easy game, which is exactly why running is an option. If someone doesn't want to be butchered, they can try to escape instead, and if someone is running away, more often than not they wouldn't be a very fun fight anyway. If someone successfully manages to escape from someone else, then it's a deserved victory for them and a deserved failure for their would-be "attackers" who couldn't keep up the chase to save their life. Now about the Red Sea: running to the Red Sea is dumb. That is only denying someone the loot they otherwise would have earned by successfully catching up to and defeating the runner, and it wastes everyone's time in the process. If someone truly isn't confident in their ability to fight, or simply don't give a damn and don't feel bothered to fight, then at the very least they could scuttle the ship. It'll save everyone involved a lot of time, including the scuttler who can go back to doing they're preferred activates sooner. However, I will encourage anyone reading this who lacks confidence in their PvP ability to not scuttle their ship. A majority of players who are trying to sink you aren't some 5000 hour gods of the game who will obliterate you if you engage them; most of the time they will be someone like me, who would most definitely sink if they tried to solo a Skeleton Galleon, even when they try to cheese it. So try fighting back once in a while, you might find yourself actually defeating and sinking your would-be attacker, especially if the hitreg goes in your favor. And when that happens, you might just find they they were stacking loot and you just got a whole lot richer for surprisingly little effort. Or you could get you ass kicked, but hey that's better then rolling over and losing your treasure without even trying to defend it.
Thing that makes me angry are people who red sea, I had chased this sloop during community day they boarded us and said that they we're gonna red sea all their loot, the sad part is you can still take the loot.
i can only play this game at certain times. really, i just wanna cruise around and explore, but even though i never even have anything on my ship worth a damn, i always get targeted anyway. plus, im always more than willing to be in an alliance, because safety in numbers. it just sucks sometimes is all.
I’m fine with reapers attacking me and all(it’s part of the game) but what I hate is the reapers who attack me whilst trash talking my pvp skills even though I am a merchant solo player who stays away from pvp at all costs. The other kind of reapers I hate are the ones that sink me and have the resplendent points memorized so that they can hunt me down over and over again just for the sake of hunting me
Couldn't shake this reaper sloop last night and had a skele ship and a Meg on me I said screw it after 30 mean and I forced mine and the reaper ship outta map and we both sunk lol better then them winning.

Mega/athenas keg will sink a brig or sloop almost instantly too, and unless someone is in the mast they will all die and be unable to bucket

Just get guud. I mean honesty running is the thing I’m best at with sea of thieves. You have the Initiative in picking direction as long as you know your boats strengths when dealing with the wind. Even solo. Pick a turn, turn the wheel half, while it’s turning get your sail in position for where the wind will be. Then get back on the helm. It may take some time but your enemy’s will drop off once they know they just can’t catch you.

The running shit is relatable
Easiest way is to just sail past Morrows peak then then around and go north. Once your ship is hidden jump off (not cannon so they don’t hear you) and vote for shores of gold. Run straight into the red sea towards the island and they can’t do anything if they come for you they’ll never be able to follow you around that massive island without you getting a leas to pull of a booard

As a combatively incompetent, lonely solo slooper that somehow reached pirate legend and picked up nothing from ship battles, I found this very interesting. As far as I can tell, having a microphone reduces the chance that a player you approach will attack you

The best advice I can give anybody for combat on save thieves whether it be ship based or on the ground or against PVP or PVE always try and put the fight in your favor fight on your terms not their terms

Today I chased a brig after they kept coming back to me after being sunk multiple times while I was trying to sell solo. They sunk me once and ran. Eventually recruited a galleon and we hounded those bastards for an hour. Eventually they anchored and I was able to sink them solo.

I've been playing since 2018, and I enjoy PvP as much as the next guy and with fight tooth and nail to defend my loot, but this is my opinion and I feel this is the best place to share it.
I've noticed a trend, in most likely the vocal minority part of the PvP crowd, that people think that since this game has PvP in it, you have to engage with that part of the game and if you don't you are a loser or whatever the fuck.
See. the moment someone actually tells me "you have to fight me" I will tell them "no I don't" and will run away from them, perhaps in the direction of an active fort or galleon for some skeleton shenanigans to distract them while I make my escape, or if they are _really_ bad then I'll collect their loot after they sank to a fort tower. In any case, if Rare wanted to force people to fight, running wouldn't be an option. Yes, this is a game with PvP in it, but it isn't _only_ a PvP game. If I don't want to bother fighting other people and simply want to do some (damned) Hunter's Call commendations, then why am I any less right for wanting to do that, over someone else who wants to fight me? Do I simply not get a choice on this matter? Why do I have to fight someone if I don't want to?
Let's flip the script: That'd be like me going around and forcing other people to grind Hunter's Call even though they would rather be doing something else, like PvP for instance.
It sounds kind of stupid when you say it like that, right? If so, people should take just as much issue with the phrase "forcing people to do PvP when they'd rather be fishing."
Another point, if someone is running away without even trying to fight back, then they are self-admittedly not good at PvP _because_ they are running; they don't have any confidence in their ability to win. Therefore, even if they didn't run, the person instigating the fight wouldn't get any real enjoyment out of it because the reason they fight is for the fight itself. But it wouldn't be a fight, it'd be a slaughter, and people shouldn't be forced to be a lamb to someone else's butcher, and hunter's get bored of easy game, which is exactly why running is an option. If someone doesn't want to be butchered, they can try to escape instead, and if someone is running away, more often than not they wouldn't be a very fun fight anyway. If someone successfully manages to escape from someone else, then it's a deserved victory for them and a deserved failure for their would-be "attackers" who couldn't keep up the chase to save their life.
Now about the Red Sea: running to the Red Sea is dumb. That is only denying someone the loot they otherwise would have earned by successfully catching up to and defeating the runner, and it wastes everyone's time in the process. If someone truly isn't confident in their ability to fight, or simply don't give a damn and don't feel bothered to fight, then at the very least they could scuttle the ship. It'll save everyone involved a lot of time, including the scuttler who can go back to doing they're preferred activates sooner.
However, I will encourage anyone reading this who lacks confidence in their PvP ability to not scuttle their ship. A majority of players who are trying to sink you aren't some 5000 hour gods of the game who will obliterate you if you engage them; most of the time they will be someone like me, who would most definitely sink if they tried to solo a Skeleton Galleon, even when they try to cheese it. So try fighting back once in a while, you might find yourself actually defeating and sinking your would-be attacker, especially if the hitreg goes in your favor. And when that happens, you might just find they they were stacking loot and you just got a whole lot richer for surprisingly little effort. Or you could get you ass kicked, but hey that's better then rolling over and losing your treasure without even trying to defend it.

i can only play this game at certain times. really, i just wanna cruise around and explore, but even though i never even have anything on my ship worth a damn, i always get targeted anyway. plus, im always more than willing to be in an alliance, because safety in numbers. it just sucks sometimes is all.

I’m fine with reapers attacking me and all(it’s part of the game) but what I hate is the reapers who attack me whilst trash talking my pvp skills even though I am a merchant solo player who stays away from pvp at all costs. The other kind of reapers I hate are the ones that sink me and have the resplendent points memorized so that they can hunt me down over and over again just for the sake of hunting me
Yeah noob reapers, a real reaper/legend leaves merchants alone. They're just making that minimum wage coin, we have no qualm with them 😂

Couldn't shake this reaper sloop last night and had a skele ship and a Meg on me I said screw it after 30 mean and I forced mine and the reaper ship outta map and we both sunk lol better then them winning.
I wish that I could do alliance's with my friends more easily. I wanna join my friends without trading out sloop for a bigger ship.
