This is one of those songs that I heard in the background while growing up but never listening to it. One day I actually listened to the words. Now it's like a punch in the heart. The past hasn't changed but I have.
The 80s sure had some gems. This song takes on such a bigger meaning as you get older and have someone in your life you lose and you don't get to have a resolution. RIP big brother. I love you.
I first heard this covered by Michael Tait and the Newsboys. It was really odd because this Michael had said that he Was there when his father passed away. Also I still had my father then. Now I have about as many regrets as this singer does... Because I can't make it up with them anymore.,😢
This song haunts me because I lost my father when I was 32 (1998). I tear up every time I hear it. RIP Dad, I Love you!! Funny or ironic, we both had generally the same point of views. My youngest was born 8 months after he passed away, so the verse "I think I caught his spirit Later that same year, I'm sure I heard his echo In my baby's new born tears" destroys me to no end. I can't get back that time lost, but I hope to do better with my daughters.
These are just words but whenever you think or keep him in your memories, he will always be with you. The moment we forget or don't think about them anymore is when they are truly gone.
This is one of those reasons the 80s were the last great decade. This is a powerful and emotional song, it hits us a thousand ways. So much of the lyrics mean so much to what is going on today, and yesterday.
@@bavideomaker29Yeah but I can find things great (about music) from every generation and in huge numbers… but when it all went computer basically it sucks. Every now and then we get great ones but most are forgettable

That record can turn grown men, myself and my brother included, into blubbering wrecks. We lost our father while we were still teenagers and that beautiful record puts how that feels into words and music. It’s just about how men often don’t talk to their fathers properly while they have chance during ‘the living years’. Nice sun lighting you this week by the way.
I lost my father to a medical mistake 22 years ago last month. I wasn't there to say goodbye, and I regret not telling him how much I loved him through the years. I still miss him so and this song makes me cry each time I hear it. So, I hear your pain.
Only the Lyrics matter in this song, so Powerful. I still cry when I hear this song not because of the message of not making the most of your time with your father when alive, but it scares me that had I not made time in His last years how bad I would have felt. I was lucky, I said good bye to my father and told him how much I loved him and how he was my best mate. One of my all time favourites.

This song jerks the heart and soul 😢 My father passed away in 1970 and i still miss him. Losing Dad was very hard for our family 👪 and now i miss my precious mother who passed away in 2012 . 😢
Love to all those missing their dads. I sometimes think of asking my dad his advice and then the crushing reality of him being gone breaks my heart all over again.
A song that reminds us all that life is so precious and we shouldn't waste time with the ones we love and some things don't matter. A proper tearjerker.
When this song was a hit I was young and never really listened but then I lost my dad when I was 18. This song is so hauntingly beautiful. Say it loud. Say is clear... And say it now everyone while you can!
One of the best lyrics in pop history. The frase "I'm sure I heard his echo in my New born baby's tears" blew me off my feeth. My father passed away when I was 36. I'm so grateful that he knew all my 3 children. He was a magnificent dad and after 32 years I still miss him, even when I'm almost 68. This song is for sure one of the best father-son songs! ❤❤❤❤❤

What a lovely heartfelt reaction. This song is so powerful. I did not have much of a relationship with my own father , for a heap of reasons , this is always a hard one to watch but such a true message. You can't say any on it when they are gone.

A lament for his Dad that he loved so much, but never really told him that, the Dad he couldn't get along with very well...but wishes it had been different. But then his Dad was gone one day and the chance was gone forever. All you can do now Is honor him. The Living Years. Real Sadness. Real regret. A determination to be better...to be more like the man who made him what he is. To tell his own son about him. The man He never told how much he loved and respected. The great, gone wish. Tears. Every time.
This is one of my favorite songs!!! The part saying "I wasn't there that morning, when my father passed away....." gets me every time. My father and I had been so close and we grew apart as I got older. I wasn't there for him in the end and though it's been 30+ years, I still cry like a baby hearing this song and regretting what I missed :(

Real emotional song this one. Cuts deep. Am now 36, see my dad most weeks but he's severely disabled and now really ill with it. We had such a terrible relationship when my brothers and me were growing up. He was simply a bully. Never to my mum, just us boys. I resented him for it for years. Weve both admitted our wrongs, and now are closer than we have been at all throughout my life.
She is so nice . Years ago when I was a kid Elvis Presley was filing a move at Seattle Washington State USA I walked by Elvis , Like about 12 feet away . I waved and said high . He looked at me and smiled . Ill never forget that .
I had completely forgotten about this song and video. This was always such a heartbreaker. My own father was still alive when this song came out, but he's been dead a long time now (27 years), so it hits even harder now.
Never regretting to talk and understand others before it is to late. Beautiful reaction to this song. Please never stop smiling. You are so beautiful and the smile lights up your soul.
My brother and I went to see them a few months after our Dad died they did a great show when they sang this one the two of us just broke down in tears ,2 grown men sobbing and clapping along to the music, Paul Carrack has a great voice.
Once you listen to this song you will never get it out of your head. And I remember it when it first came out oh so many years ago. And to this day it still brings tears to my eyes. I'm 73 years old and it hits me just as hard now as it did back then. I know it got to you too. I saw it in your eyes. 😊
Mike is Mile Rutherford the man in the video with boy. He is better known as guitarist of Genesis. Mile and the Mechanics also features singer and keyboard player Paul Carrack of many bands plus a solo artist. Also the late lead singer Paul Young formerly of Sad Cafe. This band have masses of hits including silent running and beggar on a beach of gold
I lost my dad last month. He was a wonderful father, good man and a dear friend. He loved music and understood life. These songs are breaking my heart.
This song really hits home for me because I had a very turbulent relationship with my father over many years we were both stubborn proud people who couldn't except we had both made mistakes and never spoke for years then he Suddenly died and the guilt I felt was so overwhelming I urge anyone who is in a situation were you don't talk to a very close family member swallow your pride and talk to them build that bridge that divides you because a time will come when it's to late and my guilt has consumed me
One of the most truly heartfelt songs ever written. I identify with it. My childhood was difficult due to having a indifferent relationship with my father. A situation, that was never resolved. He has now passed on and, sadly, neither of us ever took the time to bond in his later years.
totally agree, im 55 now and my pop, 84 well, we had a turbulant past. Now I live in the same building, making up for foolish temper tantrums of the past.
I love this song u sang this song for my father that pass on he die of cancer really miss him now he was the greatest father you could have growing up thank you so much for sharing this video with us I cry everytime I hear or sing this song now thank you so much Mo.🌹❤️👍
Thanks for this listen - it always makes me cry -- for me, I am close with my family, but I have seen others who.. "can't admit the don't see eye to eye" -- so important - "it's too late.. when we die..." -- such a beautiful and touching song..
Written by the band's leader and founder Mike Rutherford but the lead singer Paul Carrack has a emotional connection to the song. His own father died in a work accident when he was young. That's why PC often do this song in his own concerts.
Utterly beautiful, mesmerising & a tear jerking song. Anyone who has lost a parent has been through this exact same thing of wishing they had said so much more. Your beautiful & emotional reaction was wonderful to watch. Your heart must be made of gold, such is your expression of empathy & pain. Thank you 😊
This is so beautiful..... and then the lyrics alone can make you cry. They have some really wonderful tunes. Mike is one of the founders of Genesis. He is the dad in the views with his son. Too good.
I listened to this with my father who I lost 2 years ago. And the song and lyrics are so true, because of this the song destroys me everytime I hear it.
Thank you ! Your reaction to songs are honest and heart felt ! I always feel better afterwards even the sad ones as i feel we took the journey together !
"We all talk a different language... talking in defense " "You can listen as well as you hear" Quite profound lyrics. I take this to mean our ego won't allow us to percieve what someone is actually trying to communicate. We are hearing rather than listening. Understanding the words not the emotions conveyed behind them. We don't get anywhere because the ego won't allow us to have that real connection.
When I was 9 in March of1989 I remember the day we went to my Uncle Dave's funeral very clear and this was on the radio when we got in the car. His kids grew up without their dad and I will always feel so bad for them. My Uncle Dave was a great guy who just couldn't get away from the wrong people.
I was so lucky to be born in the mid 80's and live through the 90's, the Music was top tier! its only living through about mid 2000's to 2020s we are like Bring this kind of thing back. So lucky to be Born in a decade where we took gold like this granted! :O
I heard this song on the radio when I was a teen and was so touched by it. I met the singer (Paul Carrack) about 10 years ago and he is a really lovely and talented guy. He also co-wrote and sang Over My Shoulder. Can you do a reaction to that too?
I had many differences with my Dad, it wasn't until my 30s that i resolved them, sadly at 49 i lost him.i wish he was still here, i have so much more i want to say. This song made me resolve those issues and difficult times we had when i was a child wat back when this was released. Do it today, go see him, son or daughter go to him and sort it, then enjoy your time you both have left together. RIP DAD (John) Thanks BA Robertson (check the writers version) it was his experience in the lyrics he wrote. just copy and paste this (ba robertson living years above ) and also you will hear the name of the young babys real name from the song, and there is a surprize at the end of video(i wont tell you,it will spoil it), you think this version makes you cry watch this one the way it was meant to be.
I completely forgot about this song. I lost my father two weeks before Thanksgiving, 2021. I wish we would have had more moments together. This brought so many memories yet more tears.
I’ve watched you for a few years now, and all the different looks you have with your hair, makeup, cloths. You are so beautiful! At the end of this video, you was modeling a dress and wow, there was your beautiful long hair! Never imagined it would be so long! Always wondered what it would be like to get to know you as a person. Until the next time, Ronnie
We always wanted to play this song with the band I used to sing in, but never made it since we all started crying at a certain point. My voice cracked, bass player´s hand was shaking, drummer lost his sticks so after 3 months of practising we stopped.
You are so beautiful and I don't say that in crass way. Your outer beauty is obvious but it is accentuated by your inner beauty which is from your soul. Your videos make my heart feel good. ❤️
Another touching reaction for a touching song. Important lessons to be learned sooner than later. I'm excited for you to learn the lyrics so you can sing them loud and clear. We know our Baby Girl can already listen as well as she can hear. Peace/JT
A heartfelt song, sung by one of the greatest, most under appreciated vocalists in rock, Paul Carrack.
This is one of those songs that I heard in the background while growing up but never listening to it. One day I actually listened to the words. Now it's like a punch in the heart. The past hasn't changed but I have.

Every generation
Blames the one before
And all of their frustrations
Come beating on your door
I know that I'm a prisoner
To all my Father held so dear
I know that I'm a hostage
To all his hopes and fears
I just wish I could have told him in the living years
Oh, crumpled bits of paper
Filled with imperfect thought
Stilted conversations
I'm afraid that's all we've got
You say you just don't see it
He says it's perfect sense
You just can't get agreement
In this present tense
We all talk a different language
Talking in defence
Say it loud (say it loud), say it clear (oh say it clear)
You can listen as well as you hear
It's too late (it's too late) when we die (oh when we die)
To admit we don't see eye to eye
So we open up a quarrel
Between the present and the past
We only sacrifice the future
It's the bitterness that lasts
So don't yield to the fortunes
You sometimes see as fate
It may have a new perspective
On a different day
And if you don't give up, and don't give in
You may just be okay
So say it loud, say it clear (oh say it clear)
You can listen as well as you hear
Because it's too late, it's too late (it's too late)
When we die (oh, when we die)
To admit we don't see eye to eye
I wasn't there that morning
When my Father passed away
I didn't get to tell him
All the things I had to say
I think I caught his spirit
Later that same year
I'm sure I heard his echo
In my baby's new born tears
I just wish I could have told him in the living years
Say it loud, say it clear (oh say it clear)
You can listen as well as you hear
It's too late (it's too late) when we die (it's too late when we die)
To admit we don't see eye to eye
So say it, say it, say it loud (say it loud)
Say it clear (come on say it clear)
Say it loud
(Don't give up, don't give in and don't look away 'til it's too late)
Say it clear
Say it loud (say it loud, say it loud)

Mike is Mile Rutherford the man in the video with boy. He is better known as guitarist of Genesis. Mile and the Mechanics also features singer and keyboard player Paul Carrack of many bands plus a solo artist. Also the late lead singer Paul Young formerly of Sad Cafe. This band have masses of hits including silent running and beggar on a beach of gold
I lost my dad last month. He was a wonderful father, good man and a dear friend. He loved music and understood life. These songs are breaking my heart.
😞💕❤️
This song really hits home for me because I had a very turbulent relationship with my father over many years we were both stubborn proud people who couldn't except we had both made mistakes and never spoke for years then he Suddenly died and the guilt I felt was so overwhelming I urge anyone who is in a situation were you don't talk to a very close family member swallow your pride and talk to them build that bridge that divides you because a time will come when it's to late and my guilt has consumed me
Keep safe and well over there ,peace and love from the music metropolis of Merseyside...E
A beautiful, touching song, you are precious, a big heart...Thank you for fabulous reaction, Peace
Beautiful song which I’ve always loved. Loved your reaction and your dress and the jazz piano at the end. Great job Mo!! 😊💐
Thank you 🙏♥️
One of the most truly heartfelt songs ever written. I identify with it. My childhood was difficult due to having a indifferent relationship with my father. A situation, that was never resolved. He has now passed on and, sadly, neither of us ever took the time to bond in his later years.
I had almost forgotten about this song. It has a much different meaning now that I'm 52 than it did when I was a teenager! Love this!
totally agree, im 55 now and my pop, 84 well, we had a turbulant past. Now I live in the same building, making up for foolish temper tantrums of the past.
Lady, you just radiate empathy like sunshine. It is a beautiful thing to watch. Thank you.
I love this song u sang this song for my father that pass on he die of cancer really miss him now he was the greatest father you could have growing up thank you so much for sharing this video with us I cry everytime I hear or sing this song now thank you so much Mo.🌹❤️👍
Beautiful reaction. I saw those tears. The lyrics, like you said, heartfelt. Lovely dress too.
Very heartfelt. Thank you💕
I loved your reaction so much I had to share it with my 22-year-old daughter. great reaction
Thanks for this listen - it always makes me cry -- for me, I am close with my family, but I have seen others who.. "can't admit the don't see eye to eye" -- so important - "it's too late.. when we die..." -- such a beautiful and touching song..
Man. It's been awhile . Yes. Thanks for taking me back. Sentimental old fool iam I. This broke me down in a good way.
Thank you 😊
♥ *U Mo...and your reaction. Thanks for reacting to this beautiful song.*
Thank you♥️
Paul Carrack voice is amazing. One of the best. 😢😢🇨🇦
🥺❤️💕
Thank you !
Your reaction to songs are honest and heart felt !
I always feel better afterwards even the sad ones as i feel we took the journey together !
When this beautiful song came out, I'd just hit 20yrs old. A few decades later and it still makes me tear up.✓✓ Lovely Reaction Beautiful.x Cheer's 🇬🇧
Mike (Ruherford) was also a member of Genesis. The lead vocalist is the sublime Paul Carrack, one of the best pop/rock vocalists of the last 40 years.
I agree he has a special voice and delivery, great bloke
You have an incredibly beautiful smile! 👍🏼👏🏼 Enjoying your music reactions!
Nothing more priceless and beautiful than your reactions. That’s my enjoyment.
"We all talk a different language... talking in defense "
"You can listen as well as you hear"
Quite profound lyrics.
I still can't stop crying !
RIP DAD (John)
Thanks BA Robertson (check the writers version) it was his experience in the lyrics he wrote. just copy and paste this (ba robertson living years above ) and also you will hear the name of the young babys real name from the song, and there is a surprize at the end of video(i wont tell you,it will spoil it), you think this version makes you cry watch this one the way it was meant to be.
always nice to see that stunning smile, your expressions so heartfelt,,
I completely forgot about this song. I lost my father two weeks before Thanksgiving, 2021. I wish we would have had more moments together. This brought so many memories yet more tears.
Lost my dad at 17yo..right before this song came out. Remunds me of him
Love this song the first time i listened over 20 years ago
4:20 really did get you, god bless you, such a beautiful & meaningful song.
Beautiful Song, Beautiful Baby Girl Reaction!!
Still crying upon this song.
We always wanted to play this song with the band I used to sing in, but never made it since we all started crying at a certain point.
My voice cracked, bass player´s hand was shaking, drummer lost his sticks so after 3 months of practising we stopped.
I just love watching your reactions Mo, you give me hope for the future. Beautiful song too!
What a great song. Listen to the message!
You are so beautiful and I don't say that in crass way. Your outer beauty is obvious but it is accentuated by your inner beauty which is from your soul. Your videos make my heart feel good. ❤️
Thank you very much❤️❤️❤️
Praise indeed...
I always tear up with this song.
always been one of favorite songs
I love this song and your reaction too. Thank you 🥰🤗
Another touching reaction for a touching song. Important lessons to be learned sooner than later. I'm excited for you to learn the lyrics so you can sing them loud and clear. We know our Baby Girl can already listen as well as she can hear. Peace/JT
Great reaction to mic plus the mechanics.Known as Mike and the mechanics.Mike Rutherford who was in Genesis with Phil Collins.
Yes baby girl I grew up with it in Australia 🇦🇺 and it was hughe on radio 3 x a day for years
Beautiful song, beautiful reaction ❤
