    All these pedals are coming with more and more features, more toggle switches, more options for different tones, etc. But the second they go on the floor - that's it, there is no change - you got one tone and nothing else.

      ain't that weird? I just got a TC Electronic Magus Rat clone, threw it down, discovered that the Turbo Rat completely blew the others out of the water in terms of sheer musicality, dominated the others by sounding way, WAY better 100% of the time....
      Anyway more buttons and then you just get maybe one or two sounds usually.

    Not sure there is $100.00 difference between the sound of these two pedals...
    Thanks for the video.

      Lol. Not sure there is $1 difference ... this Waza thing is just cashing in on those who think paying more always = better, imo; to try and 'compete' with Keeley mods/grab some of the $ that would normally go towards that kind of work for themselves, but the difference in sound is not there

  • @Topsy_Krett
    @Topsy_Krett 9 років тому +5

    I agree with the consensus here... the Waza does indeed sound a bit fuller and clearer in Standard mode, and especially-so in Custom mode. But come on, these pedals are still both made in Taiwan, and there is no way the Waza commands 3X the price of the regular model. A pity, too, because the Waza is a nice pedal; but I think that BOSS has too much competition at around $149 to play hard ball with other overdrives.
    The real "boss" here is Shnobel.... Fantastic demos & comparisons. Thanks!!

      I'm sure if you wait abit there will be people who can mod standard sd1s to have a standard and custom switch and sound the same as the waza

  • @gkol69
    @gkol69 9 років тому +12

    The SD-1w has a little more clarity and note separation plus a little more low-mids/fuller sound. On custom mode, there are more bass/low-mids and gain.

      an eq right after the SD-1 solves that problem.

    Thanks for the demo. Can't imagine spending the extra $$ on the Waza.

    I think the differences would be more noticeable if the volume was around 8 or 9 on the amp. Low volumes often hide the major differences

  • @Mime12341
    @Mime12341 8 років тому +3

    Very similar. Tone character is the same, Waza is a bit darker and a bit more headroom, and smoother tone. Waza is a winner at a tone and price of course :)

  • @polviggen
    @polviggen 3 роки тому +4

    I prefer the original, sounds smoother.

    • @jmsamborski
      @jmsamborski 2 роки тому

      Exactly what I hear. Probably from one or two cheaper components losing some high frequencies/clarity. That could be a flaw, but I prefer it as well.

  • @doctiberius2717
    @doctiberius2717 7 років тому +3

    Yeah the Boss SD1 is still available and one if not the cheapest of the Boss pedals.
    The Waza Craft just makes it expensive for what it is. Apparently Zyke Wylde used to stack the SD1 as part of his sound. I have a Zyke Wylde pedal and the tone is so much better. now if I use the SD1 it is for a lead boost or stacked as it can be a very transparent pedal but overall it must be used in front of a tube amp to get any joy from it.

    The last min of the video made me want a waza just for that fuzzy low end.. maybe next month.

  • @guitarslinger213
    @guitarslinger213 9 років тому +3

    I don't normally listen with my eyes and wallet, but the Waza sounds legitimately better. It's bouncier with more clarity. It just flat out sounds great. The SD-1 sounds fine, just not special like the Waza.

  • @scottdeborahchumley5896
    @scottdeborahchumley5896 8 років тому +3

    Can't tell too much of a difference personally, but it might be my speakers, who knows. I have an old SD-1 and did a simple mod where you just cut out and remove C6 and I gotta say I really like it now. Its less fizzy. I use it as my lead boost and/or 3rd stage gain. I love that pedal now.

  • @taikoking1
    @taikoking1 8 років тому +9

    Great comparison. I had my eyes closed, seems that Waza might be little cleaner. I guess you are basically paying extra for that two mode switch, and that cool Waza Craft logo !

      taikoking1 The two modes and the good buffer.

  • @4142Wilb
    @4142Wilb 4 роки тому +1

    For $50 the SD-1 is a great buy in its own way but dishing out another $100 isn’t necessary in that there’s no significant difference in sound production.

  • @RickP2012

    I can literally buy the standard Super Overdrive and the Blues Driver for less than the price of the Waza Craft version that sounds more or less the same.

  • @andyhayes7828

    Standard production Sd-1 wins here imo. The waza 'stock' mode doesn't sound as clear as compared.

    Ok, I know usually it is too much talking not enough playing complaints from folks. Here we need some talking. Over all can you tell much of a difference when you were recording this? I have a great speaker system here but I really can't tell a whole lot of difference. Maybe a pinch.

    • @MARTINHARO
      @MARTINHARO 9 років тому +3

      I agree. Waza Craft sounds with more body in mids but not a big difference.

  • @SeveredLegs
    @SeveredLegs 3 роки тому +2

    On this particular one, I don't think the Waza sounds much different on the normal settings. It's a taaaad bit better. And I can tell when they're being compared, but do I care? Nah. Maybe if it was $100 instead of $150. But as I'm typing this, I really like the "C" setting on the Waza. That's the difference maker there. Still....$150? Nah.

    • @sixslinger9951

      the GE 7 or any EQ right after the SD-1 can tweak it to sound exactly like or better than the waza version.

      Daniel Neamtu It is very different from OCD I got both Sd-1 is more compressed more sustain and push the middles a bit, It's great when you play in the band. It is also a better booster for other drive pedal

    • @mikebeaulieu3393
      @mikebeaulieu3393 5 років тому +2

      Fulltone OCD can't even compare... when driving a Marshall JMP 2203 Master Volume head the boss kills the Fulltone OCD especially for metal. OCD is too damn bass and mid heavy.

    Most, not all but most of this Waza series is total shit and I'm a big Boss fan. Why would you pay 3 times as much for an SD1 or twice as much for a BD2 when the noticeable difference is so, so subtle that you can only notice it when you're aware and paying close attention. If you gig and you play to medium sized crowds having your guitar plugged into an original Klon or your great grandmother's douche-bag from the 1920's will sound exactly the same to the audience.
