You just heard the SD-1W Super Overdrive, another entry in Boss's Waza Craft series. The original Boss SD-1 was released in 1981, and hasn't changed much since, until now. The original Super Overdrive was lauded as a hallmark overdrive pedal, with tube-like asymmetrical diode clipping rounding out its medium-gain profile. The new SD-1W reimagines this all analog circuit to deliver a wider range of dynamic, amp-like tones. The secret sauce of the SD-1W is the new toggle switch that changes the circuit from standard to custom mode. In this new custom mode, the SD-1W's tonal range is effectively boosted, and a dollop of creamy gain enriches the overall sound. With this new gain configuration, players can use the standard side for light breakup and even an exceptional clean boost, then switch over to custom mode for a crunch tone that sounds killer on solos. Like the other pedals in the Waza Craft line, the SD-1W is precision engineered in Japan uses their road-ready, tough-as-nails enclosure.
he plays guitar so well that makes you want to buy the pedal
Yeah funny how that works... That being said come I have this pedal and was disappointed with it when I used it with my Mesa Rectoverb 25 thinking it would be a better boost pedal than my BD-2 or Tumnus.. I was about to return it when I plugged it into my old Fender tube amps and used it for dirt. At that moment, I tossed the box and paperwork and made room for it on my fly rig..
Andy really knows how to sell a pedal in the intros of his videos. Incredible music
great revue Andy, great play and sound
ahhhhh, the first pedal I ever purchased, the memories!
Love this pedal....i have an original from the early 80s and one from the 2000s....they sound very close....great pedal that tightens up the low end....
Wow, that sounds awesome. It really bites. Great choice of tunes too!
Times like these... I haven't heard that song in forever
*****
wow you're a bitter little piece of shit aren't you? What a worthless shitbag.
+Aaron Richards hahahhahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahhahahahah
@@Jacksonkellyfreak he deleted his comment what did he even say
It's a tubescreamer voiced drive. Stack after neutral /transparent pedal (eg. Od3) and you get creamy fat solos that cut through the mix. Same trick in front of a dirty amp. Love this pedal. Feels top. Don't waste money on hype and fancy graphics. Use this, Ts9 or Green Rhino. They're all great to kick solos in. 👍🍺
Foo Fighters! Awesome demo!
Foo Fighters....sooooo good.
stratorarious which song is?
Times Like These by the Foo Fighters
That Aerosmith was fucking awesome!!!
Andy is just too damn good
That black Legacy!
“Miss you” @3:10
Jesses, if Andy would do a cooking show, I would weigh 500 Pounds.
Please review the Visual Sound (TrueTone) pedals!
My 2 cents, the Tube Screamer has a low-mid boost which thickens the sound of single coil pickups, eg Stevie Ray Vaughn. Humbuckers already have boosted mids so the extra mid boost of the Tube Screamer makes humbuckers sound a little muddy. This BOSS SD-1 does not have the mid-boost so it makes single coils sound a bit thin. The SD-1 sounds better with humbuckers.
Moses Bullrush actually the sd-1 has a slight upper mid boost
You can mod it to basically be just like an 808 with the flick of a switch. Super easy
Buy the two pedals..
Correct
Use the custom mode and adjust your tone settings… duh
By any chance, do you know if all boss pedals have buffers that work even if they are not engaged?
almost all most of them ,yeah
What amp are you running this into? Sounds beautiful
Nicholas Galati For a couple of years Andy's been using a Fender Deluxe Reverb Reissue for PGS' gear demos.
yeah sounds great! he used to use the 65 SOHO didn't he?
Nicholas Galati Yes. Loooong time ago.
Les Paul + SD-1w = awesomeness
TLT what a great tune.
The heat The song. . - foo fighters
Wazaaaaaaaaaaa!
So.....it's basically an updated OD-2 then?
Sick as a dog what's our story !
What's the green guitar he's playing with? I'm looking for a guitar with P-90's
countjulu Have a look at the Reverend Jetstream 290. I think Andy even reviewed it a couple of years ago.
In this vid he uses a Reverend Club King 290
For complaints about this pedal, what you need to do is buy dirt boxes from your favorite companies and hook your faves on your pedalboard. This pedal is in mine with others like MXR,EH.
There is a more than good buffer in this Boss = no tone loss in a chain.
What is the stones song he is jamming at 3:00 ?
Tom Loux Miss You
wish you'd put what guitars your using in the description. year model make etc cheers
zooneba It's pretty much always the same guitars through a Fender Deluxe Reverb, which one are you wondering about?
+Steven Chabot the g+l and the les paul. just like to know what I'm listening to. some great sounds. write curious about the year/model of the les paul thanks :-)
zooneba Well, if it helps for the LP, he's had it for quite a while. Originally it had uncovered pickups, but he replaced them with PAFs that he reviewed a while back. Forget what they're called though,
Steven Chabot Doyle Coils TRU-CLONES PAF Humbuckers
what is that green guitar he's playing
+CORY HAYNES Reverend Club King
Different but i want the og
@0:41 = *salivate* that riff is just sweet
What happened with the riff of the day???
+salvador araujo ortega Yeah that was a great series, hope they bring it back...
Wish this had a blend knob.

Tu Puta Madre Foo Fighters - Times like these
John frusciante's new pedal.
whoa, how do you know that?
Andy - senpai / semigod
rickrolling that foo fighter song ;)
Is Waza Japanese for We're now going to be charging double, or 3 times the price of our pedals now? lol
+Brad Carroll as usual, japanese = more money. I am happy with my standard SD-1. Good pedal.
Lol I've seen new SD-1s in Guitar Center for $29, yeah now they're $100 more for better EQ.
Maybe right but hell the new Delay DM-2W sounds amazing. Plenty of boutique delays costing a lot more ;-)
Brad Carroll no thats wazooooo
They’re not made in Japan, the decal said ‘inspected in Japan ‘
Huge price difference between this ($150) and the non waza for only ($50)
Yeah, can't be that much difference in the actual parts.
Not impressed so far. On that custom setting with the drive dialed in as pictured, there should be a lot more silk and sustain, and this thing is just not getting it. But the amp you are using to demo it is probably the issue. What does this thing sound like through a JCM 800?
Great video as always but the same ole shit in a different package.
Robert Keeley did a much better mod on em...imho... :-)
Thanks for understanding Michael.
Sometimes I just have to call em like I see em.
We all know Andy gets paid very well to demo these pedals, however I'd like to see our pal Ed Dana demo them.
I believe he would say things like: This one sounds great....This one sounds like a dog shitting peach pits...etc.
Ya get where I'm coming from? lol :-)
+crazyuncleduke9 lol peach pits. I agree andy never has a negative thing to say. pretty much everything has its weaknesses he should do pros and cons even if its something minor.
But that's what most demos are like, from places that sell the product. They make their money on sales, not reviews. Even sites like Guitar World keep it all positive so they don't lose access or advertising.
+crazyuncleduke9 You're full of shit. In my humble opinion.
Yes...I am!
Please send me some Metamucil....lol
I bought a Monte Allums mod kit for my SD-1(which I bought used but in mint condition, for around $20). The mod cost about $10, did it myself, and the pedal sounds like a MILLION BUX - waaaaaay better than this (love ya, Andy - but even you can't elevate this turd). Punch line - my SD-1 hasn't left my board since the day I added it to the lineup...
