Compact Shelby GT500 , 1950's Dune Buggy, and a Morris Minor Traveler | Barn Find Hunter - Ep. 93

- Опубліковано 1 гру 2020
- This episode of "Barn Find Hunter," is a throwback to 2018 when we were hunting for cars in San Diego, CA. This was a very successful trip and we still had footage leftover so we figured we might as well share it. Just because it's leftover footage doesn't mean it's any less entertaining. This episode is filled with quirky cars and a little surprise for any Shelby fanatic.

I sobbed at the story and sight of the GT 500. Bitter tears.
I’m not going to lie I almost cussed when I saw the Shelby gt500
Best show on UA-cam.
Why? Justification.
@@rustler2222 No need to.
Wow still best show on UA-cam! The GT 40 wheels so cool ! Seeing the GT 500 crushed... That made me cry a little...
It would hurt me physically to crush a 67 GT500...even thinking about it, no matter what condition it may be in.
I'd kill myself if I even had the thought to crush one. And I'm a Mopar guy!
Ginge mir genauso....unverzeihlich!
I'm not a real Ford guy, but the idea of crushing a GT-500 Shelby Mustang makes me angry. It's one of the few Mustangs I'd love to own. That or a 69 Boss 429. How very sad 😔.
Thats what makes it that much cooler
Sold the VIN so someone thinks they have a real GT500 out there
could be jim morrisons car...
@@nickg0411 I was thinking the same thing!!!
Good point.
Just wait until that owner finds out he has an Air car. No more valuable than a clone.
Probably Jim's Blue Lady, now if we can find Mr.Mojorison?
Tom, you need to make a website for all the cars on sale that you find. It would be a great help for them and for buyers aswell.
Glad to see another Tom carter pakistani fan like me....ASLAM O ALIAKUM!
@@raheelbaloch2722 everyone I know loves this show. Tom has a lot of following in my circle. I belong to a lot of car clubs so believe me when I say people love his channel 😊 do check out my channal aswell. It's called Babay on wheels.
I think its on Hagerty website?
You bet! The entire series can be watched right here: www.hagerty.com/media/series/redline-rebuild/
I love the old Oldsmobile! My first car was a 76 Oldsmobile Delta 88. Old's have always held a special place in my heart.
Man I wish this show was a weekly show and much much more longer videos. Keep up the amazing job Tom finding this cool Cars. Stay safe everyone.
Tom needs his own youtube channel.
Maybe they pay him well enough that he don't even wanna fool with it. ? I'm guessing. Idk.
Every Simpsons fan - - - >
*you have 30 minutes to move your cube*
Arthur Tussik could fix that GT500 no worries :)
Maybe the crushed GT 500 is the long missing jim Morrison car?
killed a gt500 that was probably more solid than the 65 coupe i started with.
I have seen a guy on youtube that renovated veeeery bad mustangs, this one was saveble, hes a fool
Sounds like they weren’t as rare when he got it, this one probably helped a lot of other cars stay on the road.
@@anton.s7740 I dont think anyone of us can really see if it was safeable at the time from that cube.
@@anton.s7740 you a fool, junkyards were in 70s/80s filled with muscle cars, just like this shelby, it would get crushed anyways
@@shnilauzdicka lmao
There used to be a bunch of those buggies sitting around out here in Joshua Tree/Yucca Valley out here in the 60's and 70's .
Peter da Silva! Portuguese heritage right there! Best show ever!
The dune buggy is cool!
As regards frozen engines I saw a programme on old aeroplanes and they used bubbling hot motor oil and poured it into the cylinders and it freed up the stuck motor, maybe worth a try.
Use Iodine in the cylinders , it's a old navy trick that works .
@@dalesakawsky7309 boiling oil ?, iodine ?... I'd sooner pull the engine and pull it apart.😁 On one of my other channels I carried out a little experiment. I had a six cylinder merecedes engine that was locked solid, so i put it in the electrobath .A week later the pistons just slid out,no hammering etc etc .
Man, that second guy sure is really good at letting cars sit and rot, exposed to the elements.
Southern cali cars don't rot
Hey if you guys are looking for a place to hunt down there is this place in Brooklyn Michigan right off exit 39 right by the Michigan international speedway and he has a like 45 cars from 1940s to the 1980s,true gems
In 1968 my Dad bought a 1950 Plymouth Station Wagon that ran and drove for $25.00. We cut the body off and made it into a Dune Buggy. We cut out 12 inches out of the floor pan and gas welded it back together. After a few years he traded it in for a 1968 Chevy Station Wagon that had the 375 horse 327 and the butt ugly woodgrain trim on it. I could not believe that a "New' car dealer would take that thing in on trade. He made some wider wheels for the rear and when the guy at the tire store tried to balance them it shook the tire machine like it was a paint shaker. The tire guy says these things aren't gonna balance out and I'm like Yah Think.
you sold the serial number so someone could make a counterfeit car?
Technically you can transfer if the 'new car' is identical to the other one for restoration and the original is crushed
Eh who cares? What are you a cop?
@@errhka Oh no you can't!!! That is VIN tampering. You get a free set of chrome bracelets and a room at the grey bar hotel.
@@anchovieman6968 Because whoever bought the car with that VIN got fucked, that is why.
People do that with motorcycles, it’s still generally frowned upon
Fantastic Tom, appreciate your effort to find cool vehicles. 😀👍
Sum absolute epic shows on your channel. Keep them coming 👌🏻👌🏻
Those wheels were awesome!
Buy the traveller Tom, beautiful little project😊
Great stuff Tom! Love the coffee table idea and please do NOT give me the number for the guy with the Oldsmobile....I’d be too tempted to drag it home!
Next time you are in So Cal, swing on by for a second visit to my spread! Would love to see you again.
Great way to start my morning
it’s been about 4yrs following this channel maybe the first one I Subscribed to keep it going Tom 👍👊
NNOOOOOOO!!!! he just scrapped one of the rarest and hardest to find cars in history! YOU DON'T SCRAP HISTORY! every car guy knows this!
Cool shed For sure and he seams like a nice guy too
Another great one, Tom. Thanks.
They called the old buggy's "Water Pumpers" I have a 1960 EMPI Sportster. the Godfather of the Meyers Manx. very cool!
Liked this one tom that dune car was super interesting . Oh and I would really like to see what comes of that cube if your friend ever gets it finished
I love this every episodes. .❤️
If i own GT500 i would love to drink coffee IN it not ON it
On the dune buggy, judging by the axle flange, that’s a BOP rear end with a 5-on-5 bolt pattern. Right front corner has a Buick rim, the rest are Pontiac or Olds wheels. Someone installed a flathead engine/trans into a shortened early 1950s GM frame.
Simply amazing!
Hagerty needs to commission the artist to make a reception desk for their lobby.
I automatically hit like before I watch you videos,You Rock !
Sold the serial number? So a clone now has a legit Shelby tag....neat
Appreciate that life is pretty unusual in the US. Looking forward to the vacination roll out and us all getting back to a new "normal". I'm in New Zealand where life isn't too bad but really looking forward to some new Barnfinds with Tom.
One man's leftovers is another mans feast!
Only channel i hit thumbs up b4 i even watch it! Thank u Hagerty for my insurance and the videos!
The first guy lost me when he said he sold the serial number for the Shelby. There is not a legal thing that can be done with a serial number from a different car.
This is incorrect. The vehicle can be rebuilt with all new parts. They do this all the time. All you need is a VIN and a title and an entirely new car can be built from that.
Look up Ship of Theseus. Also exactly why the McLaren F1 is almost un-totalable.
@@jscott1000 I think you need to investigate the VIN switching laws. Any new car that is built will get a new serial number as it is not the old car.
@@mexicanspec No, he is right at least in California. I have a VIN plate and salvage title from a junkyard for a 1963 Jaguar E-Type body that I bought to replace a rusted out one in the '67 that I restored. I contacted the CA DMV to ask if I could sell it for someone to use on another vehicle and they said that was ok. I put it up on Ebay and it got a lot of interest until they pulled it, violates their policies. Ebay says it has to be attached to a viable car.
@@jwh475ezc Yes it has to be attached to a car. Selling just the VIN and title is not allowed. I don't know who you were talking to. The act of removing it from your car is a violation of the law.
that first guy has gone clinically insane, second guy wishes he was there
That morris is sweet! I wish my morris was a traveller, but it's just the 2 door model
Cool buggy when I was in high school a friend had a similar old dune buggy built from a 1952 Chrysler with 331 Hemi wheelbase was shortened to 90 in the entire body except for the dashboard windshield and cowl were removed on the rear were smooth airplane tires. It was street legal and could pull wheelies easy.
Great video!
the Citroen Traction Avant had rack and pinion steering in the 1930s, decades before the Minor, more than 700,000 were built so it was definitely a production vehicle
Renault invented the rack and pinion and from memory had it on their cars before 1910.And Alec issigonis, the designer of the Morris minor owned a Citroen and was very impressed with it's torsion bar suspension and Rack and pinion. The Morris oxford MO series in the late 40's had Rack and pinion too. I know that because a guy i Worked for in the late 60's put a Ford Flathead in one and the water pumps were over the front bumper.the steering was in the way. 😁😁
Awesome hope you can get someone to save these cool car's 👍🏾🤙🏼😀
For a second I thought I was watching an episode of Hoarders
Speedometer on buggy was a 49, or 50 ford. 49 dial hand was painted fluorescent and 50 was a transparent orange plastic.
By the way I love your show is just wonderful what you do
If Tom needs an assistant I want to be on that list! I love and own vintage cars !
The 55 Olds 88 took me back, I had an 88 convertible in 1977 ( in England). I discovered a sedan in a breaker's yard in Norfolk. I think the engine was a 324 ci. The car I'm after now is a Morris Traveller so it was nice to see that one.
Buy his turquoise car.The cost plus shipping to the UK and it's rust free (HUGE PLUS ) and all of the NOS parts means you are way ahead of rebuilding one in the UK.I know wood kits are easy to get but the steel floor structure is different to the sedan,Van and pick ups. So there would be mountains of work involved in 'welding' one.
Mercmad, I've got a 1966 Morris Traveller lined up to buy from a local elderly gentleman, he's promised it to me. It got good wood , a 1275 cc engine, 5 speed, discs and servo. Also it's in a garage so I'm looking forward to getting for my up coming retirement.
I think I can fix it. Hold my beer 😂
Yeah so I wouldnt normally do this but that first guy seemed like a nice enough guy and maybe just a bit overwhelmed there in that shop. I would come clean that place out for him for free and you know , help the guy out...... 😎 At some point its just dangerous to maybe trip over some magnesium wheels or a Gurney setup..... I dont want to see the guy break a hip or something....
I would so like to have that GT500 cube
Episodes are too short and no way there isn't footage we are car people....i mean i watched a 50min video on building a truck in a factory (no narration or nothing) its like steel work videos its memerizing :)
Always a big thanks to you and the people you meet
That green cube was bile inducing. At least we have the story.
Oh man would I love to be able to walk through there
you know people are real petrolheads, when they're standing around a crashed cube and embracing it!
thx. Nice vid.
Thanks much appreciated
enjoy your videos-
The speedometer is a 1950 I had one good job Tom
Reminds me of the show Hoarders.....
OMG gt500!!
Tom your the best
Thats right off Rancheros drive... damnit Tom call me next time
Cube car great statement. I have two worthless washing machines still like new but suck at getting close clean. I think I'll cube them.
Hi this comment is for the UK trip as comments is turned off just letting you know Vauxhall is GM uk ,Opel is GM europe and Holden is GM Australia .
Oh,yeah,Woody strikes again !!!

,,,,,,,,,,,here.!.............from,,,,,land o' lakes,wi..😯...............always fun to watch!!!...I'm always looking around here!!.tnx,.
A frankencar, in the 2nd half!
It breaks my heart
Tom you have to fix your wipers. They would drive me nuts sitting in the middle of the windscreen.
That 500 should be in cased in clear plastic and used as a coffee table. Lol.
1964 formula libra crosley/shelby one off chassis with books, flood lights, garbage, and a home depot box piled on it. Cmon man. Thats terrible to see.
Regarding the Shelby: You can't fix stupid.
A true “car guy” would never sell a VIN to help someone commit fraud! Shame on both of you.
you can buy a brand new replacement body shell. I dont know if they come with their own vin number or not but its not nessesarily illegal
@@jeep2003 it’s a grey area. While not illegal per se, it’s considered unethical to ‘re-body’ a rare vehicle especially since many (if not most) will then hide that fact or just call it restored. Personally I’m not a big fan as I think you should try and save as much as possible.
It's a gray area, but if the seller fully discloses that 100% of the parts except the VIN plate have been replaced no fraud has been committed.
I think I’m the only one who, when I heard Crossle 10F got totally excited! Crossle has been making racing cars since the late ‘50’s, they are still in business and best of all can provide parts for every race car they’ve built. No other race car manufacturer can do or say that. The 10F is a one of one that started out as the 8F, a Formula Libre’ car as stated. It was crashed and rebuilt as the 10F in F5000 configuration. It wasn’t terribly successful in either configuration and no other F5000 Crosslé were built. That’s a desirable car sitting there buried, hopefully he sells it and some restores it and takes it racing.
Ferrari will make parts for your Super squalo . They still have all the blue prints etc. You better have three kidneys to sell though.
Oh cubed gt500 ☹️ Iike that project it's different.
How is Tom's woody placed near to the far fetched locations for filming the series? If I were he I would not care to always take the time to drive it myself. And so I ask. Thank you, Tom.
I got an old checker cab in my barn..
Was a mistake to crush the gt500
Rocket 88 Ike Turner.
One guy sold a VIN number and the other is selling cars with no titles. Is Tom Craigslist's hunting?
Davenport! Get Mr Griswold’s car back and bring it back here.
This place reminds me of Paul walkers place
Is there any news on when/if Tom is coming back with Barn Find Hunter?
Where is Tom?
Do you ever run into early 70's Monte Carlo or 70 Chevy cheyenne 3/4 ton.
I don't think anyone watching these barn find videos thinks it's easy.
trans fluid and acetone /paint thinner
That first guy is simply a hoarder with plans to do a bunch of projects that will never happen. You can tell by how full the place is, everything piled up and no room to work on anything. Hopefully the stuff will still be in good enough condition to restore when he dies and someone that likes cars to restore and use gets them.
Just thinking gene windfield would be a great story. Mojave CA. Plus a few yards up there with so many cars
Winfeild has done so many stories and films about himself ,that you could watch or read one a week and it would take a couple of years .
@@Mercmad but has anyone seen the cars in his junkyard, or his neighbors yards....
I guess golden boy had a butler..
"one owner car" can be overrated!
