I own a COVID era 3rd gen (2022) and have been in many 3rd gens in the last 2 years because I used to work in car rentals. The 3rd gen's interior build quality is inconsistent at best. I've also been in several 4th gen SR5s and base model TRD ORs. Even though the 3rd gen is just an incredibly cheap feeling interior, the 4th gen just feels like paper. I don't 100% believe Toyota about the glovebox thing but I'm not caught up on it either. The center armrest, however is concerning. In the 3rd gen, if you flip up the arm rest and try to shake it side to side, it'll barely budge despite there being a separation between the center armrest storage/box and the front panel of it that is actually a part of the center console piece that has the cup holders and the shifter. The 4th gen will bend and shake like there's no reinforcement.
A lot of the plastics also just feels flimsy, namely that little slanted vertical piece that holds your phone (and has Qi wireless charging if yours is equipped with it). It's the same on the new Tundras as well. You push on it and it flexes in. Then there's the grab handle on the door panels you pull to close the doors. The textured part meets up with the panel that has the window switches but if you pull on it hard enough, it'll look like it's about to unclip itself. The headliner feels cheaper as well almost like there's no structural bracing and if you push up on it, it'll flex upwards towards the roof. My 3rd gen does it above the second row right after where the space for the moon roof to retract ends but it doesn't do it under the space the moon roof retracts into nor will it flex or deform above the doors. The 4th gen headliners deforms at every surface area that you push on (I've only been in 4th gens w/o moon roofs). My FA5 '08 has a nice, soft headliner with what feels like reinforcement or structural bracing above the headliner because it just does not budge when I push up on it on any point of the roof.
And then there's the handle next to your gear selector. The 4th gens I've been in has these handles as wobbly af. I believe the Broncos have the same issue with the same grab handle in the same position. The "molle" panels on the door panels are also soft and easy to pull on. I get that they basically have big holes in them but it doesn't exactly inspire confidence when these panels flex so easily and with probably few people using them as actual molle panels.
I like my 3rd gen and I like the previous gen Tacomas as well. I'm a Tacoma fan and I really, really wanted to like the 4th gen but Toyota seems to be doing everything they can to make it not happen. The powertrain is smoother and offers better power delivery but it's a rattly-ass 4banger that sounds like a Mitsubishi Mirage trying to climb a hill. The exterior is way too aggressive to its detriment. There's too many body lines, bulges, and fake vents. Why is Toyota so obsessed with those plastic "runny mascara" vents under the headlights? They're in the Tundras, Tacomas, and under the tail lights of the previous gen Camry, too. And then there's the price tag. It's absolutely insane and Toyota deserves all the flack they get about pricing. My '22 TRD OR Premium was $45k brand new and it's nearly fully loaded. All it's missing is the multi-terrain camera system and the LED headlights. A 4th gen base level TRD OR is around the same price, and the halo trims are $64/65k. Unbelievable. There is no justification for such ridiculous prices. Ventilated seats, heated steering wheel, hybrids, and turbos do not justify a $15k+ increase from a '23 TRD Pro to a '24 Pro. Hell, some features that were standard on some 3rd gen trims are no longer standard on the 4th gen (power driver seat on the TRD trims, rear sliding glass on the double cabs) and despite the 4th gen being the first generation Tacoma to ever offer rear defrosters, it's still not standard even on TRD trims.
Again, I wanted to like the 4th gen, and I'm not a 4th gen hater just because it's all new with way too much tech or that I hate it just because. I hate it because despite the improved powertrain and ride comfort, it's a downgrade or sidegrade in every other aspect despite Toyota increasing prices so dramatically.

My one “complaint” about the interior is actually the grab handle that I also love. It feels sturdy, it’s the perfect place to rest my hand between shifting gears, and it’s also nice for some of the more “spirited” driving adventures to have something to grab 😂. I don’t like the seam on the underside of the grip and the gaps in the plastic that flex when I grip it. Kind of disappointing that it’s not one solid piece. Still love it though.

The iMT gimmicky “auto rev match” is another great example of Toyota finally catching up to the other manufacturers (not sure if it was available in the Supra or GR Corolla). It is kinda nice for stop and go traffic, but I hardly ever use it since it’s off by default. I love the fact that Toyota still offers the manual for weirdos like me! My chief complaint on the interior is the actually materials themselves. Very few soft surfaces and much of the interior is a composite that scratches pretty easily. As well, on the the unit you are testing, it would seem that the infotainment unit doesn't use the space ver efficiently. It could either be smaller / thinner, or fill out the space better. The visual on the touch screen feels VERY small considering the size of the dimension and overall thickness of the unit.
Im not hating on the 24's. I generally like the design and wider size. I got one for my son and am happy with it. But the interior materials and finishes could certainly be improved. Especially considering the much higher costs.

Neither of your "debunking" videos has really debunked anything for me. The back seat leg room complaint was always about the TRD Pro "IsoProDynamic" Seats literally leaving no legroom. But even on your pickup without them....while the legroom is "doable" it is still worse than the 3rd and 2nd gen. So that complaint is still not an unfounded one. But I agree that people should just know that before buying it as a family vehicle. As for the interior of the 4th gen...it both is cheap in some ways...and not as cheap as some make it out to be...sure. But it does LOOK cheap...for 50-60-70 thousand dollars. It looks decent for 35-40 grand truck. Not 55-65 grand. It also looks a little "immature" and "toy play set" ish. Like a kids idea of a "cool truck" interior vs an actual cool truck interior. But that's how I feel about the exterior design of the new Toyota lineup in general too. With all of that said, I do agree that the truck is bot as bad as the loudest complainers are making it out to be...but it does seem to be a disappointing "step up" in general. While its not a "bad" truck and I even agree some things are a definite improvement.....I am not convinced Toyota could not have done a whole lot better. And I think the truth is these are good, not great trucks. And we were expecting great trucks from Toyota. Just for reliability reasons I would not spend any money on one kf these Turbos until we have more data on them. But that will take 5 years or more. So I am not going to trash them, but I do have way more faith in the V6 at the moment. Even if it is slower and less capable in some ways. Much rather spend 50 grand on a low mile unused 3rd gen than on one of these at the moment.

I do not tow or do any heavy off road driving, but it's reliable and good on gas., . When I needed a new truck, the Tacoma caught my eyes , and I wanted one. By buying the 4cy. I saved over 3200 bucks. The truck's final price at that time was $ 28,000 dollars, at 1.89 % Financing ( Won't see that Today) So, why are the prices so damn high? Also Toyota got rid of the Access cab Door , the 4th gen. no longer has the door. Stupid Move Toyota. This July she's all paid for. Now for the meat. Yes... The Plastic has to be the cheapest, poorest quality Toyota could find. From my first week of using this nice truck, my door panels , Gauge cluster screen, and dash looked like I wiped it down with sand paper. I only use quality micro soft cloths. I never had a vehicle scratch like this one. My '04 Ranger had plastic that was far more durable, and lasted the whole 12 years, without any of the issues with my 3rd Gen. I really prefer the 3rd gen. interior design much better. The options for Mods are far more available, fun, look great and easy to do. I really like the position and use of the round air vents. The 4th gen. air vents are small and deliver less flow and adjustability. Also the 3rd. gen. allows a much nicer operation to remove the stereo and other dash panels. In closing, I bought the '04 Ranger as a used vehicle, it had 70,000 miles on it, and the interior plastics were like brand new, and stayed that way the whole time I owned it. Those features are pretty standard in this day and age

@@teamoildrop Agreed! I love the lane departure alert, adaptive cruise and all that. I worked rock crawling out of my system years ago and I’m now interested in longevity, toughness and durability. And coolness. I like the broad and deep aftermarket for our Tacomas. If I wanted to bounce off trees and rocks I’d get a 3rd gen and install a SFA, lockers, exo-skeleton and so forth. Proud owner of a pavement princess!

Yes. The interior is cheap. The 4th gen is overpriced turbo charged green new deal garbage. #V6 #2TR-FE
