I live in California but, I lived in a farming/ranching community in Wyoming for several years. I went to work for the local bank as the assistant to Vice President of Agricultural loans. I loved how alot of the transactions were done over the phone until the farmer/rancher could get in to sign the paperwork. It was an amazing community and something I had never seen in California. This podcast brought back those pleasant memories.
Fascinating podcast again, so interesting to hear how the markets work. Especially loved hearing about the history from the 4th generation of the family business. 👏👌💕
I particularly enjoy hearing about the History of your Profession. Also how much things have changed I love hearing stories about Grandfathers, Fathers and their Sons and Daughter (Iona x) on these Podcasts
Totally agree. I’m new to listening to this.. just a thoughtful, respectful conversation with people in an industry that is hard, but the people in it support each other
Where I worked, near to Melton Mowbray (which still has a large livestock market very close the town centre) there remains to this day an unloading ramp to take store cattle off railway wagons and spaces for holding pens. Cattle were watered in the river close by and allowed to rest and graze in nearby pastures before being walked to buyers farms up and down the Vale of Belvoir or the nearby Welland Valley which were alleged to have the best grazing pastures in the UK. Most of these were sold fat at local weekly auctions in the area in the autumn and early winter. Many of these cattle were brought over from Ireland to Liverpool and then loaded on the railway for despatch to farms for summer grazing.
Another fabulous podcast, and again, so informative. Iona, you are getting confident in your introduction of the podcast by yourself. Looking forward to the next one!
Great job on the intro and outro Iona. You have such a pleasant voice and smile. Cammie you were so quiet and so careful of how you phrased your questions! Not sure if it was respect or fear of having Wendy come after you 😉Really good balance on this one.
One of your best interviews! Slow speech and little brogue made an interesting subject even more understandable. As a Canadian I needed a map for the geography lesson. Well done.😄😄😄😄
Iona is so sweet x I worked with a young lady like Iona back in the day and she always made everyone’s working day so much better with her giggles and Sunny smile
I met Mr Craig when I first moved here and was learning about how the marts work. Gave me a lot of great info on the basics. Trouble is I can´t understand half of what the Drew, Andrew and the other auctioneers are saying, I can´t keep up 🤣 And damn right The Food Trough is the best.
Well done Iona, great intro etc. another fab podcast. So much history in this one and the networking within the farming committee is great. So interesting. You gave had some great guests on, looking forward to the next one 👍🐑🐄🤩
Great podcast AGAIN Love 💕 how you go through the back stories of your guests Also think it is great to hear common sense being encouraged Sadly your audience isn’t the one in so much need of it Got a list though😂
Great podcast again Cammy, Iona and Jim. Primrose has been at Lanark mart for a good few year now tho, also a wee mention to Wullie Hamilton, store and breeding cattle auctioneer..
I remember the days where the stock (fat pigs in my case) were sent to the abbatoir beginning of the week and the trader would come on Friday to pay them ... cash

What a kind, dedicated gentleman.

Thank you so much!
You did a lovely job Iona.
I'm sure Cammy is busy juggling the boys, trims away and little daughter.
Really enjoyed your guest and history shared.🌻
Great job on the intro and outro Iona. You have such a pleasant voice and smile.

Brill job Iona. Another interesting podcast. Keep them coming.
Thank you! Will do!
Going by the expressions on your faces, Iona and Cammy, you were hanging on every word Jim was saying. Great vlog.

Learnt alot.
Lovely chat.
Huge knowledge. 😊
Very good podcast with Jim Craig. I mind of his father Mike and Tom Robertson selling store cattle at Ayr on the Thursday always very busy sales.
Lanark mentioned once 😢. Now I want to visit all these markets. Some of my earliest memories is going to the old Lanark market with my dad. 😊
Really enjoyed todays chat x

Pround of you cammy you managed to keep quiet for a long period of the pod great 👍
Keep it up i am still fed by farmers.
Jim seems like he is such a nice person.
Brilliant podcast loved listening to Jim’s stories, also I’ve never heard cammy so quiet 😂😂😂
What a great and enteresting podcast xxx
I enjoyed this immensely. Thank you for the history lesson, it was wonderful.
Great content once again
The spirit of the farmers mutual is not dead
I love listening to Iona!! And I did spot Craig's HGP mug!!
The best podcast so far wel dune to your teem
Great podcast again Cammy, Iona and Jim.
Primrose has been at Lanark mart for a good few year now tho, also a wee mention to Wullie Hamilton, store and breeding cattle auctioneer..
There was also a Morton's market in Kilmarnock just doon the road from Donald's.
If you are ever up in Alford it’s worth visiting the heritage centre which is based in the old mart.
That sounds braw!
@@FedByFarmersPodcast it would be worth a visit once yer loons are older to teach them about old time farming
It's so interesting how government, with the stroke of a pen, can change the lives of so many people.
Brilliant , could listen to part 2. Iona great intro ,no need for your curly haired side kick , let him take his paternity leave early 😂.
I particularly like Jim’s accent
I bought some crystalyx for my sheep's. An orange container. Something that's good for their lungs I believe.
Many on farm auctions in Aussie and electronic sales, on farm due to massive volumes
Cammy was way more quiet than normal. Did he make an effort or did the big man just fill the room?
I wonder if he was delivering a baby girl all night. That would make him quiet.
Not yet... but anyday now!
He speaks much more slowly than I expected. 😂
Never ventured to Ayr market to have an opinion on the grub but it'd be going some to beat a Lanark breakfast 😮
This sounds like a challenge we need to explore! 😂
“My word is my bond” then a handshake to seal the deal
You don’t hear this much these days
Unfortunately
I remember the days where the stock (fat pigs in my case) were sent to the abbatoir beginning of the week and the trader would come on Friday to pay them ... cash
4th Generation?!
Impressive
Primrose is at lanark nowadays not Ua.
My mistake! I’m just a sheep man 😁
@@FedByFarmersPodcast better me telling you than her 🤣
Cupar mart which is closed is next to the railway line 😂
A few female auctioneers at Lanark im sure
What aman t to listen to
Is the baby coming?
Anytime now... nothing so far!
Maybe shearing...Maybe busy with a baby? 😊
