John and I do a night hunt setup overlooking the new Hog Feeder to harvest a wild boar hog that's been coming near the feeder - but won't come inside the fence.
I don't know what just happened. My first thought was cool, "takedown of a hog with a 22, I've gotta see this." Now all of a sudden I'm crockpot shopping. Lol Excellent video my friend, keep up the good work.
The Big Pickle nothing ethical about using 22lr on a wild boar. In most states its illegal to hunt anything bigger than a rabbit with a 22lr. You should be using a bigger caliber if your intention is to be ethical and humane. While it's true that a skilled shooter can kill just about anything with a 22lr. The reality is most people are not marksmen. It leaves way too much of a chance that the shot might not be a kill shot, and essentially would prolong the pain. 22lr should be used ofr hunting big game only in a survival related circumstance.
I always come back to this video once a year. I love the hunt footage and it always cracks me up when you immediately cut to that sizzling meat. Good stuff. 👍
This was a truly well made video. Not only do I know a 10/22 could take down a boar, but now I know how to make a slow cooked meal from boar meat. 👍Job well done!
After you dump the meat and veg into the crock pot you should deglaze the pan with a little more beer and add it in! Helps get those delicious brown bits stuck to the pan
Best dam video in UA-cam history. Straight from dropping that beast with a 10/22, to cooking like a king, then treating a lady like a real gentleman. Thanks for the video my Brother.
oh Mama , very gentleman man, love hunting, cooking and don’t forget family come first... i wish you and family much love and of course happiness Sir...
I love watching ear hole shots. No tracking needed and very humane. Heart and lung shots are for the birds and those needing exercise if you are within 50 yards or less with a .22.
I clicked on to spectate for the 10/22 kill and was surprised by the meat in the pot addition .. I love and found some humor in your presentation so much I became a subscriber and I rang the bell for more
Took your advice and bought a Ruger 10/22 and with my optics I am able to hit a Quarter at 75 yards. Going to Alabama this hunting season and if I am lucky, I'll post my hog. Again, thanks for your advice... Happy hunting.....
I know you will be happy with your Ruger 10/22. Be sure to check any applicable state hunting laws regarding minimum caliber size for hunting hogs in Alabama or any land owner rules where you will be hunting... and let me know if you are able to post a pic. Best wishes on your hunt... in the mean time practice, practice, practice. :-)
Very nice! I’d just add that it’s good to use the back of the knife blade to scrape ingredients off the cutting board so you don’t dull your knife edge.
I like the shooting and cooking. Living the hunter's life. I like it. I missed the hunting that I had back in Texas. You can try smoking the meat for 2 hours with some peach wood or other fruit woods, then saute and then slow roaster..the smoke adds another layer of complex and buttery fruity flavors. It will be even better. The meat absorbs meat until it reaches 140 F. I usually hang the meat on hooks and have the coals and a metal sheet with some small holes above the grill (to keep possible flames from reaching upwards).
Jim Bo, I'm quickly becoming a fan brother. I love the Lone Star state and my "ex is from Texas". I love my firearms and I can appreciate a hunter that eat his kill and that food at the end looks so good.
yeh im from middle england but now live in south wales .i have plenty of rabbit hunts back home and decided to look for another couple hunts local to my new home .and then came accros a chap who has a genuune problem with thease pigs so now im applying for a new rifle.this dose leave me with a small problem tho it means im going to need a biger freazer .cant wait to try the above recipe tho
RE: 10/22 accuracy tip. The slip fit & V-block barrel mount system common on 10/22 seems to benefit from pressure bedding stock to barrel... yes, unlike most screwed in barrels the common 10/22 does not seem to like free floating especially with bull barrels. Tony Kidd 'of Texas' makes his own version of 10/22 custom {sometimes with Boyd thumbhole laminate stock} such as my brother has. His turns in 1"+1.5" @100 yard groups with the el cheapo Remington Golden bullets. Running Tony Kidd's recoil buffer and the heaviest spring that will still cycle reliably is the best way to hush port popping. His action is slicker than Ruger's so you might want a stiffer recoil spring.
I noticed that you aimed for just behind the ear at the soft tissue. Would a forehead shot not been powerful enough @ 1000 fps to penetrate, or do you think it would've just shattered the round on the skull? Also, did he drop right after the shot or was he able to run at all afterwards? Great video. Love my Ruger 10/22 Takedown.
Great video Jim! I've been dying for years to come down there and get me my first hog. By the way, I've heard that wild hog can be "gamey". Did you have to brine the meat before cooking it and if so, how did you to that to take the "natural" flavor out of it? Thanks again!
With a .22, anything over 30 yards and the percentage for success goes down significantly. I think that hog was about 180 lbs. Here is a video of a big one that came to the feeder at 27 yards. ua-cam.com/video/4J7kgpIaGeI/v-deo.html

I agree!! Great video!!
A good clean shot delivering an ethical kill with nothing going to waste that's how hunting is meant to be.
edwardsdeacon "waste"
Some goes to waste; the rest goes to waist. But you have to eat it first. It's all good.
The Big Pickle haha, I missed that one but I immediately caught "meant"

Man!!! Good job feeding your home. A man that can do that can survive any situation.
I like how the video cuts to straight cooking 😂👍🏿
Jim Thomas, you are a good man. Good hunter, good cook, and a good husband.

Good idea... thanks for the tip !
Would've loved to make some homemade chorizo sausage out of that!
Nice pro tip!
😂😂😂 broooooooo. I wasn’t expecting that ending at all 😂 So smooth and casual
I like the edit right at the shot. Meat on the table!
Didn't show him go down though. Maybe because it was a sloppy method and the thing ran off.
Yeah that was slick. No drama at the kill.just the absolute bare necessity. Then the cooking.
That would be a damn good enchilada filling too my friend!!!yeeeeew!!!
Almost chewed my arm off waiting to see the finished product. That was nice looking
i am learning that 22lr and 22 pellet rifles are no joke for this size or smaller of game. AWESOME VIDEO AND MEAL

Looked good to me. A 22 in the right spot will do just fine, and that recipe had me drooling.
Looks good!!. Shot and food.. but i still wondering a drop a hog to 22.cal??!.
It's always nice to get some appreciation for all yer hard work and creativity... That batch of pig meat and veggies looks damn good bub!
For such a short video - it certainly was both interesting and entertaining. Nothing wrong on a 'hunting & gathering' channel - in showing the kill.
Came for the rifle, stayed for the grub.
Great video.
I like how this turned into a cooking show. Now I'm going to go shoot a boar and cook
Looks like some variation of a bear from a distance. Love the instant cut from the shot to the pan, haha
I watched it without sound...great video, and even better bowl of yumminess...

hmmmm good eating especially cuz you harvested it, process, and cook the meat your self.

Assuming you use subsonic because of the suppressor; what ammo are you shooting? I rarely see people take boars with .22lr.
+slomofo562 I was using GEMTECH, 40 gr @1020 feet per sec.
You need your own hunting show, everything from the weapon, the bait, to the kill, to the meal...

How does that ATN X-Sight do with enduring the reverse recoil {BOLT SLAM} of the 10/22 ??

Which scope (model) do you use?

The brain aint much bigger than an egg so if you can hit an egg at 40 yards four out of five times, I'd say you have about an 80% chance of dropping one in its tracks.
