    You know what else is risky? Not spending enough time and effort on Destiny 2

    Destiny 3 too risky, 5-6 incubation projects not too risky. Convince me that Bungie leadership isn't just trying to milk the brand for what they can in the short term

      Hindsight is 20/20. Im sure they're regretting the incubation projects now. They also originally had d3 planned but had to pull back. I think this is just a signal of a change of leadership tb.h. Sony prolly brought them back down to reality..

    Everyone just lost their trust with Bungie so I think its best if Bungie gave away Destiny IP to another company everyone actually still trust to this day.

      More than likely wouldn't of made a difference. They lost the ability to bring new players in mainly due to sunseting alot of the content

    The more I hear about their decision-making the more baffled I am that they made such a good game. I did stop playing three years ago because I got tired of hearing will fix that later but it’s amazing that they got right with the decisions they make

    Destiny 3 being a risk, something in which they already have a fanbase established (which could grow if they bothered), yet Bungie will recreate old titles with outdated interest or new ips.
    Huh.

    Lmao you guys only now seeing bungie for who they really are, all the butt lickers suddenly had a change of mind. 😂 people like DSR pointed this out years ago and was labeled a "hater" because they didn't agree with his harsh criticism.

    So making Marathon wasn't even more risky? Fools.

    • @captaincrunch1707
      @captaincrunch1707 2 місяці тому

      It wasn’t risky to Pete Parsons. Marathon is likely the reason he got the massive payout & golden parachute. Jim Ryan’s focus was securing as much gaas as possible.

    Somebody needs to buy the Destiny lore from Bungie and create books, animated series, a movie, a tvseries or whatever... that lore can hold a Game of Thrones size business...

    How is it risky making a sequel to your game? Anyone that says “splitting the player base” are really dumb. You see blizzard making games and they didn’t care about that. As long as players were on a BLIZZARD game, then they didn’t care at all.

    • @horrorfan117
      @horrorfan117 2 місяці тому

      I think it's more about splitting the dev costs.
      D2 is still their primary money maker, and right now Marathon's future is a bit iffy.
      If Marathon flops, then they'll need to lean heavily on D2. If they take devs to go work on a D3 that take a good 4-5 years. Meanwhile they'd also need to keep D2 alive and producing content to keep the studio afloat.
      We've already seen what can happen if they split their focus between too many projects at once.
      Though I'll be honest I don't really see a good option for them here at this time. Keeping D2 alive is going to have diminishing returns. They really need Marathon to succeed so it can shoulder some of the financial burden. Maybe have Pete sell off some of his cars?

    oh yes, improving on what sells well is too risky. instead, let's make 5 different games at once in genres we've either never touched or haven't tried in 20 years.

    What is more insanely risky is having no goddamn plan at all. Kudo's bungie you've killed the only income source.... "AGAIN"

    The story of Crow was very fleshed out before D1 ever released. Robert Brooks or anyone else merely "implemented" it.

    Yeah I agree that destiny 3 is too risky. To restart and lose all your progress, weapons, titles, and cosmetics after 7 years would piss a lot of ppl off. And let’s be honest, bungie has a trash reputation of incompetence and greed, which caused a lot of players to leave and has given them a bad name among gamers who have never played destiny. They regressed so much with Destiny 2 year 1 and added back features a year later in a paid dlc, they vaulted and sunsetted paid content, even though they required people to buy those dlcs and I know some people are pissed that they made the game free a year after forsaken. It’s really hard for new players to get into the game since they have to buy multiple dlcs and instead of making the entry easier, bungie would rather add boost packs that give you materials and guns. And after 2023 and 2024 layoffs, and the announcement that they’re going to scale back on d2 content, that was the breaking point for a lot of players. Players are more aware of not to trust bungie and probably would wait or just skip destiny 3.

      Well said . I think the active superfans just can’t see the overall damage that Bungie has done. It would take an absolute legend of an executive to fix/reverse those issues to win back the good will of the wider citizenry of ex guardians(players). Not to mention the dire economic times, cost of living crisis & saturated market of free&affordable gaming.

    After alienating their customers to the degree they have, the prospect of releasing a new product based in the same world is deemed risky? Yeah, that tracks.

  • @slate8409

    Making ANY game is a risky move. It's always going to involve a significant investment of resources, people and time. But that's your job, Bungie. You're a game studio. You exist to create content and by extension bring in revenue from selling it. That's your entire schtick. And one game with a proven playerbase is riskier than five to six games that don't have some measure of guarantee for sales?
    Just put in the time and effort. You've shown you can create a decent product with Forsaken, Witch Queen and Final Shape. You have the IP, you HAD the talent before you fired them. Get your house in order.

    If they come out with a D3 they can make a third person they can also make it non cross-play that way they're not going to have any problems and issues like they do already and if they can Implement more of a simplified game and compact the game much more and stop adding things to the game that just don't necessarily need to be there. Create a whole new story going farther into space I find that they're only saying it's too risky because they're just giving up on the franchise they're trying to milk two for as much as money as possible so they can find other games that they're trying to create. So what they should have stopped doing was they should have stopped coming out with DLC and making you pay for it play show the lower the price of all the DLC it's just like basically buying a new game each time you bought a DLC and they should have never recycled their own content. They went from focusing more on microtransaction and that's why the game completely fell off.😢

    its wild to me that they never thought about investing more into destiny to keep it going, the whole saga is pretty sad but oh well. now the shackles are off from destiny maybe i can do something constructive with my time.

    I’m guessing that all the side projects were a hustle/grift to inflate the value for possible acquisition. Sony took the bait and the top decision makers seem to only care about their golden parachute + exit. That studio is going to implode unless Sony can implant a Vince Zampella level executive. And god didn’t make many Vince Zampellas . This is gonna be painful to watch , even for a jaded ex-Destiny superfan.

    I think we're way past the point of Destiny2 being safe and secure and we can just milk it forever. I think going for a big refresh in Destiny 3 isn't just a risk anymore, it's probably necessary for the survival of the franchise.
    I absolutely hate how leadership over there thought they can try every other 'risk' out there (a new game, a spinoff, etc) EXCEPT investing more into Destiny 2 itself or a sequel. Hell Destiny 2 has an abysmal New player experience that can't hold the very few players that it manages to hook... they don't think that's a risk?

    I know their destiny shills but lets be honest Destiny has never been in a good position ever. Do a good job pleasing the fan a boys is not the same as make a successful and sustainable and growing product. Factor in Budgie insane cash burn, now you have a studio that know it doesn't really have the money to make a new game and isn't seeing the needle move all that much. Then the pandemic bubble happened and Budgie now really screwed up, rather then use the boom to get a D3 up and running fast with the knowledge on what they need to get is stable. Instead management decides to make 5 new games that would hopefully move the needle in the way Destiny couldn't.

  • @ryantann

    Only risky because everyone associates shit, Bungie, and Destiny together because of their piss poor management.

    Destiny 2 is to bloated and takes to much effort. Fans want a destiny 3. Na to much of a risk better make games nobody wants.
