Easy fix to blinking Theft light

- If your Mustang suffers from a sporadic, blinking Theft light that prevents the car from starting, this video may help.
The PATS transceiver is a small plastic module that mounts below and around the lock cylinder housing. Its sole purpose is to read the key (transponder) code and send it down to the PCM for authentication. Its only about $30 and very well may be the reason the PATS system won't start your car.

Sounds more like your PCM is faulting

Have a quetion? Do you have to take it to a ford dealer to get it reprogrammed to match your PATS inside the key tho ? Or is it just based off the model of the viechle ? I tought anything having to do with replacing PATS in general would require a trip to the ford dealer so it can match the rest of the Anti Theft system and reprogramming it ? I could be wrong tho.

You know if you stick key in roll window down half way leave key in for ten mins. Come back the theft light will be off and you will be able to start it and by doing that you reset the system! Won't have to take apart anything or all the extra stuff
That used to work for me, but it is not solving the issue any longer.
Wat if the windows dont let down and the theft light on??, is the problem bigger than just leaving the key on??
Would this cause the vehicle battery to die every other day? My truck has the same light and my battery dies like once a week.

Hey to add to diagnosing which component is giving issues to the PATS. When you turn the key on the theft light will fast flash for around 40 seconds. Then it will flash a 2 digit code to you. Currently researching a code 12 on an expedition

Yep that’s right thanks for the information the dealership will charge 2 grand for this I have a 04 Mustang GT automatic dark shadow gray my theft light is flashing a little faster and over night and in the morning it is on with no flashing so far my car still crank good with no problems so I think I will just go to google and buy one and have it ready just in case I know sooner it’s going to happen thanks
Ryan did your PATs transceiver fail due to a dead battery and attempted recharge or jump? My 04 Mach 1 battery died due to sitting in garage. I recharged the battery and now the Theft light is on and it wont fire at all.
My 2004 GT is currently doing this..
@@brittanyblancett6503 my mechanic took a rubber mallet and wacked the gas tank several times to vibrate the pump in the gas tank. He said they run into this frequently when a car has been sitting for a while. So being an engineer i thought this makes since since the electric motor connection to the pump is mechanical there is a chance he is correct. I could not hear the pump start when my wife turned the keys so after the mallet wacking, the pump started and sent gas to the engine and it started. Good luck.

Yes, the PATS transceiver works with any key.

I have a Mazda b3000 2003 and the 'anti theft' has been blinking on the accessory dash since I got the truck. The truck still runs.
The anti theft light stays on blinking whether truck is on or off.
Could it be a faulty transponder causing the transceiver to send the wrong info to the Anti-Theft module ->PCM?
For example the key hit the ground or got handled too much.
Just give it back to the owner😂
@@KosherFinance it turns out that a blinking auto theft light is actually normal. It means that the anti theft system is active. It's only bad when it's blinking sporadically and causes electrical problems like your car not starting.
Hello I viewed your video and it the same problem I’m having with my 2004 40th anniversary mustang . Does it make a difference on transceiver the look the same one is 3R3T and another is wYIT?

I have a 98 gt mustang and my PATS system kicked on while I was driving on the highway. I didn’t know it was the PATS system at first so I put a brand new fuel pump assembly, alternator, battery, fuel filter, spark plugs, and wires and obviously non of that was it it was my PATS system the whole time. I got a new transceiver in it and it’s still not starting. My theft light doesn’t even blink how yours does it just pops up when I put the key in the ignition then goes away. I don’t know what to do at this point I’ve watched a lot of videos and heard a lot of different stuff but nothing works still. It’s at my gf’s sister’s husband shop he works at mal Hamilton Ford. He the supervisor of the quick lane and they couldn’t get it to work or turn it on. It’s going to the main shop and there gonna try to get it started. If they can’t is there anyway I can bypass the PATS system or something I really don’t wanna scarp my mustang.

just bypass that whole crap with a hidden kill switch and a toggle ignition switch
So turns out my whole computer went out so I had to replace the PCM and ECM also had to put a new Ignition key reader in cost me like $1000 but now it runs and everything is fine. Only down side is I gotta take it back in the shop to probably get a new PCM again because I think the one I got now witch is only like 4 months old is going out.
Having same prob did everything you did so it maybe computers and transceiver?

Will this method work on a 2000 cougar
or u can pull the starter relay , take a jumper wire to it that will by pass it also. atleast it is on mine at the moment., also is this a easy, fairly cheap fix? if not may sell the car.
Its a very easy, pretty cheap fix. The part was less than $100

@@ufartface , he meant relative to going a different route and being wrong. Or it being a fried PCM. In that context $100 is dirt cheap!

mine doesn't even crank over with the key fully on , the theft light doesn't flash but i feel it's either a relay issue or this.

Use the original key
When your door is open does the theft light flash and then go out when you close the door

Tried this and it still has light blinking and no start any ideas for me
Check the PCM relay. It’s located under the hood in the box on drivers side. We picked one up for our f150 for about $5 from Ford. You can pull the relay and watch how the theft light blinks to know what code it’s throwing. If the relay is bad it’s a quick cheap and easy fix

@Carson Stonebraker I figured it out the connections to the battery and to the starter were corroded and needed to be cleaned and tightened
@@Michael-gh1tj what issue was yours having? Mine cranks really hard but never turns on due to the theft light remaining on at all times blink after blink.
@Carson Stonebraker if it's not the original key and has a theft light blinking the car thinks it's being stolen and wont start. Go to the dealer and get a key
@@m.pm.p6808 its probably because of the key. I had fo go get a new one from the dealership and they pulled the vin made a key with a chip and I stuck it in the ignition and she fired right up
