Welcome to my vlog channel. This time I made tempura soba & nori tempura and asked my wife to judge. Use code "YOSHIZUKI" to get $5 off your first Sakuraco box team.sakura.co/junyoshizuki-SC2312 and experience Japan from the comfort of your own home!
Never thought ill see Rachel learning from their cats and begging for food like them 😂😂😂 She even puts her head on the table and hand paw tab like them is so cute
We call them green beans in English. Which isn't an especially useful term for differentiating them from beans you eat individually, but it is what it is. Great video :)
For some reason I feel like string beans is a bit more popular in America, the main place I hear them called that is on videos, tv, etc. Also apparently most beans these days don't have strings any more... And I almost never hear French beans, I wonder if that's also semi regional. I'm sure the french don't call them french beans, hehe.
Yes, string beans is what I usually see in the Northeast. Rather than French beans, I may see "haricots verde" instead, which just seems like green beans in French...
People need to keep in mind that he is comparing his food to artisans that did nothing else but to cultivate the taste of this one product their entire life, so a 5/10 is probably the highest someone could reach first try
I really like these videos where you makes something from the Sakura box and compare. It makes the add fun and also shows how incredible talented the snacks makers of Japan are. When someone with Jun's cooking skillz, still have some way to go before reaching the masters of the craft it highlights the quality of the products in that box.
4:27 those are usually called green beans! Oddly exact naming lol. Sometimes they’re also called string beans or snap beans, although those are technically different plants
i have been watching you and rachel since 2015, and its heartwarming how far you've both come. i still watch old videos, such a comfort channel for me and hundreds of people who watch you guys, a very happy new year💞
A happy new year to you and Rachel and the kitties as well. I am grateful for all your content you shared with us in 2023! May your 2024 be a good year, i am looking forward to what you have planned for us 🫶🏻
The soba looks delicious, and I love how honest Rachel is every time! Happy (early) new year! ⭐I haven't been watching your channels for the longest time (2 years basically) but I love your cooking, diy and cat content🐈 Best wishes to you, Rachel and the cats for 2024!
Our southern tradition, as a first meal of the new year, Collard greens, which is supposed to be money, black-eyed peas which represents common sense, Pork or ham, which is considered a sign of prosperity in some cultures because pigs root forward. Cornbread, which might symbolize gold and is essential with black-eyed peas and greens. Prosperity and health to you and Rachel in the coming years.
In the UK we call those French beans. I've only ever seen the green ones in the shops, however you can also get varieties with purple, yellow, or white pods, which are better for growing at home because they're easier to spot amid the leaves. They're very easy to grow.
I always understood "butter" instead of "batter" and thought: well that's not the tempura coating I remember, but I'll trust you man on the Internet :D My bane of existence with the English language as a foreigner is "bet","bed"',bat","bad" btw. My American wife always laughs when I mess those up :D
I'm very impressed with your chief and teaching skills. You gave us great advice regarding the shrimp, batter, okara, and oil. Thank you for sharing. Happy New Year. I hope you and your family are safe after the earthquake.
it’s been AGES since yt recommended me this channel, I can already feel the urge to go on video binge, I love the vibe, the kitties, and the cooking!!! ❤️
4:29 Hello, in Italian they are called "Fagiolini" in the dialect of my city, Piacenza, we call them "fasuleì". "Fagiolini" derive "Fagioli", in fact "Fagiolini" could be translated into mini beans
Those beans are called green beans or string beans! I used to eat them fresh off the vine in my mom's garden when I was little. ❤ She complained that none of them ever made it inside because I'd eat them all! Sorry to be a nerd, but you said the priests ring the bells 108 times to represent sins and desires - I went "whoa, like Spiritomb!" The Pokémon Spiritomb is supposedly made from 108 souls. Nori tempura sounds AMAZING, I want to try that!
Ahh what a great start for my day. I always admire you as a person, on how calm the vibe you give. Your home, your cat. My world and my head is so loud that i wish i can turn it off but seeing videos like this makes some things feel better. Thank you for sharing, Jun-san 💐
I love soba! I'm in Okinawa right now and I'm so excited to try soki soba - I hear it's a lot like udon moreso than regular soba. Thanks for the video as always Jun! Looks delicious.
If the shrimp tempura tastes of sins then the ease of the soba noodles breaking should demonstrate a clean break from these sins of the past year? Have a great new year!
Happy New Year to Rachel and Jun! The shrimp looked (and sounded) so delicious. I have never seen a shrimp not curled unless it is butterfly shrimp, like I had tonight!
How can _tempura_ be a sin, it's literally got heaven in it? If you don't get it: In Japanese, _tempura_ starts with the character 天 _ten_ (meaning "heaven"). Extra fun fact, apps like Google Lens are bad at blending _katakana_ with _kanji_ so you get a menu that says チーズ天 (_chīzu ten_ / cheese tempura) translated as "cheese heaven". And if you're making tempura at home following Jun's instructions, save all the little fried batter bits you scoop out! Those are called _tenkasu_ ("tempura nothing") and they're used as extra topping for tempura soba and udon, or on their own as _tanuki_ udon/soba. Why _tanuki?_ Well, they're trickster spirits, and they've become associated with slacking off at work or business owners who cut corners. Tom Nook might be one of the most famous _tanuki_ in media outside Japan - just imagine him in his little shop, selling "tempura udon" with only _tenkasu_ and you've basically got the idea!
@@Orion-ih5xl The fried tofu skins in _kitsune udon_ are the same ones used as wrappings for _inari_ sushi (those tofu pouches stuffed with sushi rice). The sushi is named after the harvest deity Inari, who has foxes (the Japanese word is _kitsune_ ) as messengers! That association led to the idea that foxes love tofu, and specifically fried tofu skins, so now dishes topped with tofu skins are often called the _kitsune_ version.
I didn't know that about soba and the 108 rings for the New Year, how cute !!!!! I wish I could participate. I love that kind of traditional history so please (if you can) share more of that in your cooking videos !!!!!!! And Happy New Year to your family !!!!
I love the level of self control your cats have, every other cat would have sucked all that shrimp right up. Even Poki is so calm now compared to years ago. I still haven't managed to visit Japan but maybe one day, i will be able to. Then again, i would probably be overwhelmed with everything and accidentally break like 100 traditions so well.
Inside all the stuff that we go on on this world, Its always calming to see a new video of Jun cooking. Thank you and have a wonderful next year, hope the best for you and your wife!
nice to say purify desires and "in doing so illuminates why things need certain care or respect " I am Roman Catholic though grew up in different religious culture (protestant)
I should really not watch these before lunch! I always get so hungry. XD they look beautiful, and the shrimp tempura ESPECIALLY was just so gorgeous. And I'd still want to eat your nori-ten, even if it's not as good as the sakurako kind.
happy new year to you all! thank you both for being a source of joy and comfort ❤ i first watched you guys back in 2017 but ‘rediscovered’ you this year, at what felt like exactly the right time for me. i hope you guys keep doing what you enjoy most and wishing you a 2024 full of happiness!

I still love Poki.
The beans are simply called green beans.
@@marc1indeed they are, the beans of green
Happy new year to you and Rachel and your cat family !
I've just heard recent earthquake in Japan..hopefully, all in safe condition. Big ❤ from Malaysia.
Jun: what are your sins and desires as cats?
Poki: screm. eat trash.
Nagi: pride.
While Haku: Chilling~
Pichi: Poki ~~❤❤❤
Jun: What are your sins and desires as cats?
cats: Crimes. And also food.
@@HiganbanaThatBloomsI was just gonna say!😂 Haku - Sloth
Does ruining the humans' decor count as a sin?
Jun:” 108 sounds a lot”
Poki: *bites Jun’s finger*
“109.”
Poki's sins are gluttony for food, and stealing everyone else's food! 😂 We love you Poki! Happy New Year!
And biting. Don't forget biting.
Never thought ill see Rachel learning from their cats and begging for food like them 😂😂😂
She even puts her head on the table and hand paw tab like them is so cute
11:40 - awww, hahaha, Rachel laying her chin on the counter, channeling her inner Poki, about to strike and grab more food when Jun looks away! LOLOL
She matched that ginger floof sitting on the right :P
The Many Sins of Poki the Cat is a manga I would gladly read.
We call them green beans in English. Which isn't an especially useful term for differentiating them from beans you eat individually, but it is what it is. Great video :)
I think you can also call them string beans, which is more descriptive.
Or french beans

Its more british english if anything. Which makes sense because im European and they teach us british rather than american English
People need to keep in mind that he is comparing his food to artisans that did nothing else but to cultivate the taste of this one product their entire life, so a 5/10 is probably the highest someone could reach first try
Jun’s English has gotten amazing. He even uses English colloquialisms at this point.
That crunchy tempura was something else. I could almost feel that sound.
I hope you guys are ok. Our thoughts and prayers are for all of Japan. Stay safe.
Rachel and Jun were the first thing I thought of when I heard about the 1/1/24 earthquake! I hope they’re doing alright.
I really like these videos where you makes something from the Sakura box and compare. It makes the add fun and also shows how incredible talented the snacks makers of Japan are. oh we call those runner beans cause the plant will "run" up anything you put it near haha
i have been watching you and rachel since 2015, and its heartwarming how far you've both come. i still watch old videos, such a comfort channel for me and hundreds of people who watch you guys, a very happy new year💞
Haku sitting on top of the vent and seeing his little paws in the beginning of the video cracked me up haha

Poki always screams at the best times! 😂 Love him!💗
Poki definitely has some desires related to shrimp
I don’t know if it’s just me but watching the cats while Jun is cook it’s just so relaxing and satisfying
11:37 Me: "Oh, Nagi has joined us on the table.... no, wait, that's Rachel." XD
This makes me so happy to see poki with lil scarf omg my heart is melting from the cuteness lol also this food looks ssuuppeerr tasty 😮
Happy New Year guys. I hope you're safe and didn't suffer much damage. Praying for everyone in Japan 🙏🏻 ❤.
Happy New Year! Green beans, I believe, are what they are. Yummy if roasted in the oven. Although tempura is also very good too.
more of a string bean, but yeah :D
@slightly_rotten
Thank you. 😊
string bean or green bean. Cause some string beans are yellow which kind of makes them no longer "green beans"
At least in the American southeast, those would just be called green beans.
I like to air fry them and the sprinkle them in grated Parmesan cheese
I'm so impressed that Poki can remain in the kitchen these days.
Love the detailed cooking tips for the preparation on the shrimp and vegetables. ❤

Poki steals my heart every time!
love the honesty of the food critiques
id be the worst food critic, if something doesn't make me feel ill or question life choices, it's a 9/10
I love how over the years, Jun has evolved to speak exactly like Rachel 😭🤣💖
Poki is soooo cute! I love his little meows throughout the video letting us know he's still there. ❤😊 Amazing food Jun! Fantastic crunch!
Just what I need to relax before work ❤ thank you Jun for always making the days brighter!
Thanks Rachel and Jun and Sakuraco. Happy New Year!
Can I just say something? Jun, your english got so insanely good and it was fun to see your developement over the years!
We most imaginatively call those green beens in the NE US 😂
Happy New Year, and that's what you get for taunting Poki 🎉🎉🎉
String beans is also pretty common.
I hope your family & the cats are safe from the earthquake
11:39 Rachel looking like an excited child ready to eat 😂
Happy New Year to Jun, Rachel and the cats!
Poki chomping on Jun's finger made me laugh out loud!

Ah man, I needed this. Relaxing making noodle content for the new year, it’s gonna be better this year
"What are your sins and desires as a cat? Sleep, and be lazy?"
Haku: "Yea--"
Poki: "Murder."
If the shrimp tempura tastes of sins then the ease of the soba noodles breaking should demonstrate a clean break from these sins of the past year? Have a great new year!
Happy 🎉 New Year🎉 May 2024 be a grand year for you both and your adorable cats!

Happy New Year to Rachel and Jun!
The shrimp looked (and sounded) so delicious. I have never seen a shrimp not curled unless it is butterfly shrimp, like I had tonight!
Loved all the tips for tempura! Definitely wanna try making this.
Happy New Year Jun!
My cat’s name is Soba Noodles!! Maybe I should share with her this year 😊
ENJOYING YOUR RECORDINGS and of course, the KITTIES.
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU AND LOVED ONES !!!

amazing yummy happy new Year to you and Rachel and your Lovely family .
I love the Japanese style of deep frying
I haven’t been on your channel for a while but I remember when you found poki and all you guys did for him. He’s so chill now!! Amazing
Those beans you eat whole are simply just called “green beans” in English haha it’s simple but effective
Once day Rachel will give Jun that 10!
