    It looks like they were inspired by Taiwanese Pineapple Cakes. For pineapple cake fillings, the pineapples are cooked down until they become a jam. Sometimes they add fillers like wintermelon to make it smoother and less acidic, probably similar to why white bean paste was added.

    I suspect the pineapple in the manufactured manju was prepared like a jam or confit. If you were to make your own version again, perhaps start there, and add a bit of fresh pineapple to the cooked pineapple and bean paste mixture to preserve that texture you enjoyed, while marrying the flavors more. (also, keep in mind your manju were fresh, whereas the Sakura Co. manju have been "ripening" for a while, allowing all of the flavors to develop and marry. If you had any of your homemade manju left, how were they the next day?)

    • @Strattiffy
      @Strattiffy Рік тому +3

      Jun, you are too hard on yourself! Any chef would have to make a recipe many times before they perfect it. I agree with the jam comment, but be careful adding raw pineapple to a jelly as the enzymes may make it watery (blanch it first).

    i make these sorts of pineapple pies a lot because it’s a traditional dish where i live, usually the pineapple is cooked down into a jam or even thicker sort of like a paste! if you want to include chunks you could probably blend half and cut the other half into cubes, then cook it down into the paste 😊

    In Indonesian there's something similar called Nastar, it's a bite size snack with pineapple filling, while in taiwan it's bigger in size and the one i usually eat or found as souvenir is square shaped. Back when I was in Indonesia, I usually helped my mom make Nastar by grated the pinapple and cooked it into jam, cooked the grated pineapple + sugar (not to much) in small heat to evaporate the water and cooked the pineapple till golden brown and thick (?), basically look more like paste then jam. And I usually bake it rather then steam it, it's golden brown and taste good.

    they look so tasty! and pretty too! the cats watching so attentively was adorable! id probably suggest cooking the pineapple with some sugar/syrup into a thick paste to give more flavour and be more homogenous. the mochi filling might need a bit of milk or gelatin and the outside can probably add a bit of the pineapple paste/juice into the dough, not only will give colour and flavour but probably a more moister texture.

    Aww thank you for the lovely video!
    When you took out the paw print I laughed so hard. Also I laughed at the end when Poki decided he wanted some too.
    Yours looks different on the inside but the outside is 10/10.
    Don't give up!

    You're at a huge disadvantage not having even tried it before! I'd love to see you retry this with the knowledge you have now that you've tasted the SakuraCo one

    Your cats crank IQ high just looking at you do stuff like cooking and building. Sometimes, looking them sat on chairs and react to your knife works, it feels that either they are entertained or in a classroom and think you are doing class for them.

    Would you be so kind as to cook for your cats again? Apart from your particularly beautiful art performance , observing your cats as they enjoy your culinary masterpiece is a great pleasure.
