Thanks for making these - and not taking yourselves too seriously ;) Merry Christmas!
Why don't you come to the dark side and become metric ;) You too TerryBerry. The day will come ;)
@@thundercuck1779 Lol. I meant, come to the dark side and pick up a decimal-inch Steel Rule - but I would flip the switch on going all Metric today if I could. Merry Christmas!
Metric Christmas!!!
Should have put a link to one of those decimal inches ruler. Great video!
I just started using wips and when i try to get work offset alarm come on (skip signal found) somebody can tell me what that?
Lets come to the common terms. "Metric"
Happy Christmas & New year.
The perfect gift is obviously alcohol so you can hopefully forget that you have work to do.
Merry Christmas and a Metric New Year Mark
SAE you all next year.
The coffee was a good one 😂😂
A metric chrismas and until then we should at least be on the tenths - nice to see the thought end effort that goes into these videos, even the less serious ones are very good!!!
I've had mine for 18 years. Was given to me by my shop teacher in high school. I still use it every day.
Even your simplest videos are still always entertaining Mark! Great work as always. To everyone else -- I've talked with Mark at the last two IMTS shows (somewhat briefly, but hey... he's a busy guy!), and I can say without question that he is as personable and friendly in person as he is in all his videos... maybe even more so. Haas is lucky to have you Mark! Every big company should have a public-facing personality like you, but few are so lucky!
I so agree!
Dear Mark, we miss you!!! Merry Christmas!!
A set of good rules/scales are to a machinist what the pen USED to be to a writer. Thanks once again to Mark for doing these videos and doing them with a sense of humor. Information doesn't have to be boring...
I love imperial, and metric. In Britain we generally work in metric in machining. Our road signs are all imperial! We think in both here! I can’t visualise road distance in metric. When someone says thats 100 miles away - I can see it!
Merry Christmas Mark! You make the best videos on the internets!
Waiting for the "did the metric system get you to the moom first?" Comments haha.
Anyways, im in Australia working in a workshop with a lot of history and long running contracts which use imperial dimensions on drawings. Some of our older guys measure in imperial naturally and some in metric. It's super important to know both, especially in the US right now.
WoW!!! That was a bold statement... Merry Christmas everybody!!!
Merry Christmas . Thanks for the videos. Everyone has helped me become a better machinist
Merry christmas and happy new year.
We love the Teryberry
Merry Christmas to all machinist and everyone else in the world..
1:39 lol I've definitely done that...
I love this so much!!
All I want for Christmas is a autographed picture of mark terryberry!
Love all your videos, Mark!
Metric Christmas and a Happy new year :D
Feliz natal.
Merry Christmas from North Carolina:
Merry Christmas and happy new year!
(Požehnané Vianoce a štastný nový rok!)
Much as I need one I still have yet to grab myself one of those little steel rules. I loved when folks in the #instamachinist community would comment with the silliest uses they could come up with for one of those little guys but truth be told their just darn useful! Keep up the awesome work and have a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year =)
And here I did way to much math in my head.. I was just about convert my garage shop to metric because I was tired of the mental math... Ordering one now.. Happy Holidays all.
Haha spot on with the rulers wide usage:-))))
We wish You Merry Christmas and a Metric New Year! 😂
Sweet toolbox!
Coming from straya with metic when I have to be forced to use imperial working in tenths makes it so much easier than trying to work in 64ths or 32nds. Work smarter not harder
Good Choice, a machinist usually needs to have quick access to a scale .
***** A scale that is never missing
***** A scale one that is both rigid and flexible
***** A scale that isn't ever used because Statistical Process Control is in place.
Have a very metric Christmas. I mean merry! Merry....
La taza es el mejor regalo happy happy navidad
Merry Christmas & A Very Happy New Year!....
Merry Christmas
Another great video. And I must say I can't wait for the day that America moves to metric.
Haas es lo mas
One year later - one more year of enjoying my (metric) pocket ruler.
I had different rules: metric/inch ones and also metric ones with millimeters and half millimeters. But that's just the tip of the iceberg...
I had one with mm on the bottom and 1/2 mm on the top, one with 1/2mm up to 5cm and then just 1 mm increments. They both have the problem that you can only do one thing on one side.
Now I have one with 1/2mm on the front and 1 mm increments on the back and that is surely my favorite. The only problem is that I just have one and I don't remember where I got it from.
I sent out my "dear Santa" letter this year with a request form more but that did not help.
If anyone knows where to get those - I could use a couple of them: one for my coffee (is it a large or a small one), one for my cake (how thick a slice do you want) and a few to hide in some tool drawers around the shop in case I need one and forgot to put it back in my pocket.
I’m the guy who has done all those things with his pocket scale. I also agree that the metric system is easier. Happy holidays!
My machine runs in Furlongs/Fortnight and that’s the way I like it.
Great video. Good to see Mark back in the videos.
I so agree! He is great!
He would be also be a great host on one of those diy shows on cable.
Merry Christmhaas
Big up for the Metric on the one side and the decimals!!!

Feliz Natal HAAS
A 6" Rule would be the perfect gift. But only if it's a Starrett. My favorite is the 316R-6
This is great! The steel rule is the first item that came to my mind for a machinist gift. My 6" flexible steel rule lives in my shirt pocket everyday and if I'm ever without it I find myself needing it. Is it bad that I've used my rule for all of the things listed and then some?!?
I would absolutely take a box of bandaids as a gift 😂
Smarter every day has a video on Whitworth. The creator of the millionth of an inch measuring tool and the near absolute perfect surface flat
The 3rd eye of a machinist. Even a Euro model for metric.
- Watchmen
Don't buy just one, buy 6 or 10 of them. That way you won't have to look for 1 there will always be one close by. Have had the decimal scales even back when I was in airframe and power plant mechanic. We used them extensively when doing sheet metal work on aircraft.
Um. Metric Christmas everybody?
That is a "Christmas Wish" Sir. 🎅.
Though the USA does use the metric system where necessary, but at the time of the rest of the world adopting it, circa 1970's, the cost of doing so in the USA was prohibitive, and especially world economics.
Thats my two penny's on it ( both duodecimal, and base 10).
How’s the weather outside Ollie? METRIC!!!
Ummmmmmmmm I already use the metric system and I can't visualise in inches and feet
Starrett C303R here. Tenths and 50ths, much easier to read than 100ths.
Metric Cristmas!
there was a great video by veritasium about America actually being metric.
Interesting, I may have to look into that . Thanks for post.
Hi mark
Freedom units? well so long as nobody tries to wrongly state that centigrade is metric temperature then I'll be fine. anyway I'm off to the store to buy a 2 liter of soda...
С НОВЫМ ГОДОМ ! )
S novym schastyem!
That's the problem is that everybody wants to wait until the rest of the USA switches to metric. Just do it now.
Biggest customer at the last shop I worked at designed in fractions and then rounded to 1,2 or 3 decimals based on tolerance. They also only used metric hardware. It was dumb as hell.
Thing is, the whole country was built on the standard system. All machines, all buildings, and lots in between. I think it would be difficult to switch overnight
Jimmy
@@therussianmachinists2409 u call it standard in US?
@@vite1968 interesting choice of name, huh? Haha. people call it both standard and impareial. But I think you'll hear standard alot more often :)
@@therussianmachinists2409 it's not impossible, most of European machinery was built with withworth screws long in to the 20th century.
Keeps you on your toes.
I've been in the darkside, there are no cookies here..
Its the same problem in aviation, gliders messure the altitude in meters, and the general aviation in feets. Bad idea.
Hai mark
So much easier to design with the metric system!
I've eaten with mine when i forgot my spoon at home
The best gift is a calculator! :)
my perfect scale is a non-flex 1" decimal inch/metric scale with a half hook. unfortunately starrett doesn't make it.
Hello, I am asking for good Polish subtitles.
Ничего не понятно, но интересно ;)
In case anyone is looking for the one shown.. amzn.to/2EJQ7mK
Awesome. That's the one. The last user-review actually says "A great way to stir ones coffee". Merry Christmas!
looking for apprentice in hass company
Make a video resume and post here, maybe they will see it. :)
I will not go too work ,we out ny scale 4R starrett 35 years works the best
awesome. metric for the win.
Even in 1857 they were so intelligent that these inch dividing is bullshit. But I am glad to see that in the US everything take that long than her in Europe.
Metric is best
I shan’t have my toolbox tainted by metric filth. It’s bad enough I already have a set of metric wrenches.
Merry Christmas ,,, hmmmm metric
Metrics is from the Devil, but it’s a lot simpler to use, but Inches was good enough for my Grandpa that always said “It’s about an Inch”, would have been nice to know the exact measurement.
Merry Christmas from a metric Machinist..
HAAS VF4SS
Hii
Can we do honing on machining center??
ROFL and NO! I will never leave my American 1/64 scale! Merry Christmas! HO HO HO, lol.
yes you will
Merry Christmas and happy new year!
Noooooooo metric please!
Apparently, they laid out a 10 year plan to move us over to the Metric system. That was the 1975 Metric Conversion Act. I don't think anyone read it, we're all waiting for the movie. www.us-metric.org/ Merry Christmas Ed!
Can I get a litre of cola.
Oh yes please, metric conversion for the US of A - I'll be so happy to throw away my 1/4-20 screws and the non-sense 13/64th drill bits :)
A little late?
There's always gifts for a birthday, Easter, shop teacher appreciation day? Is that a thing?
Metric system!
Yes finally change to metric! Metric Christmas every one.
This is a amazon commercial
Hahaha, Haas should get some extra royalties for the mention, lol.
really Mark? ekspecially?
Woooo its Whitworth day!

Merry Christmas all of you machinist. I have been a USA Machinist for 38+ years. The Metric system sucks. The greatest Manufacturing in the world comes from the USA. 4 place decimals. If you don't know thousands from tenths you're just a carpenter. No join US the great Machinist of the USA. Our Planes, Tanks, Cars the greatest in the world ever. Happy New Year.
Down under we work to 0.01mm but you lot working to one thou converts to 0.0254mm...
Yes you are correct Samuel and I can tell a very good Machinist also. Have a Happy New Year my friend :)
@@s9000x Cheers bud, you too
Haha decimal inches, more like metric wannabe
If metric was from God there would have been 10 apostles. ;-) Seriously though we are so stuck in the English system due to availability of metric tools and it seems most of my metric tools purchased are junk. Will we ever fully move over... probably not in my life time. My lifetime may not be that much longer if Putin puts the magic nukes on us... just saying.
Hah its time for Americans to switch to some real measuring system;Metric ,imperial days are over!
