Joking aside, I have grown to dislike when family, friends, etc ask for Christmas ideas. It feels like a chore (both giving and receiving) and proves how much society has re-defined Christmas. Yes, this video is still a list of "material possessions" but I also want to share my own thanks and gratitude for a healthy, happy family and one heck of a year (Moving from New York to Ohio... our first CHILD!) and with that, at the end, I wanted to share that with a modest "giveaway".
Otherwise, back to the usual NYC CNC content this coming Wednesday with the first video on the 9MM Muzzle Brake project! We'll be doing CAD in SolidWorks, CAM in SprutCAM 9 and then Machining it out of 4140 on the Tormach! 5 Reasons to Use a Fixture Plate on Your CNC Machine: bit.ly/3sNA4uH
Cool video John. I made sure Elena could hear it while I was watching from my phone.
It was great. That was my first time playing it.
And I usually don't comment but my cristmas gift to you: I really respect your attitude, style and humillity. What you have done last year and the way you live your life now, and share with us is utmost commendable! Hats of to you sir! Grtz from the Netherlands!
ProTip: Never buy a man tools if he didn't specifically ask for that exact model. Theres nothing worse than having to use a tool we never wanted haha.
I skipped the whole idea of gifts years ago, you're definitely right that it's about the other stuff, not the least family time and great food.
That being said, great list! I think high quality hand tools especially are a great idea for gifts, nothing like something you get to physically handle and be reminded of the great people in your life.
NYC CNC Or shoes no doubt :)
NYC CNC I like your style!
Like most of all of your videos, well done and with pertinent information. I will be forwarding it to my wife and kids!
Though the media will never report it, it is wonderful to be a part of this community. The ability to pursue the information you desire at any time and to have others share is incredible. Thanks.
Speaking of being grateful, I hiked Monadnock today and man, if I felt at all fortunate before, it's nothing to how I feel after being reminded of what three hours of cold wind feels like.
By the way, congrats on passing 30k subs!
As always love the vids and the little spoken of everyday things that machinists encounter that rarely get brought up. Now off to my give my girlfriend the link:D
Hey John,
I agree regarding Christmas as nothing more than a retail event, rather than a family reflection over the past year.
Congratulations on your upcoming 1st year anniversary in Ohio. I do enjoy your vids, although a lot of your topics are over my head, but I watch anyway as there is always something I can take away!
Your gift ideas are very thoughtful, and even though I don't have anyone but my "mutthead" here to share the holidays with, I do wish you and your family a very blessed holiday!
Razor!
bought the Book 'Metalworking , doing it better' you were right it is very very good...off to the workshop.
Hi John,
Great picks man! I am happy to hear you and your family had a excellent 2014, 2015 will be even better! Looking forward to the 9mm muzzle break project.
Thanks for sharing!
Ray
Good video, have been trying to think of a few things for my Amazon wish list and this helps.
Love this video and all of your videos for that matter. You're a great host, thanks.
John,
I am not a CNC guy, afraid of the learning curve it might bake whats left of my brain. But I enjoy your projects. Glad you had a great year. Sounds like God has blessed you.
I was expecting the funny drill - tapp combo you used during the enclosure build :-) It sure is on my wishlist now...
Haha, don't forget the link to the metric set for us non us fans!
fantastic thanks
Everyone needs to buy the hitch cover, then an item off list and then share links to everyone!! haha Cool video.
Two other things no machinist should be without: Gauge blocks and pin gauges.
congrats man on the new shop!!! no one buys me anything hahah!!
I was all about my dewalt drills and impact until they got a little age on them and all the batts and chargers started failing. To just go buy a batt or charger is so expensive you can just about buy a new drill. That to me is annoying. Loved having them but I'm doing without for now to see if the newer lipo batts hold up longer. All great ideas tho! Great video as always wish you and the family the best these holidays!
great video john. daniel
Hey John. I'm excited to see what design you come up with for your muzzle brake. I just did one for a .308. I haven't tested it yet but I have high hopes!
Not yet. I need to thread the end deeper and then clock the rotation so the top of the brake is in line with the top of the rifle. I'm in the process of insulating my garage so my Tormach is down during that. I'll send a pic when the brake is done if you like.
Yes. I tried to do horizontal cuts but that ended up in a mess. So I did rotating cuts afterwards. They gave it a nice look. I have to do something about the neck as well. I'll email you a few pics of what I have so far.
You probably can't see it in the pic but the flats aren't uniform and the neck is not really round. I did a crap job with a die grinder - a rush job really. I have room to remove the extra material and it'll look much better when it's completed.
Got my pellet stove up and running today. Once the garage is warm I can get back to machining again. Looking forward to it.
John, I wish you would talk about the books more. What other go to pieces of pages do you turn to? A good book is definatly worth while.
Thanks John, what about learning all the software. Was all that hands on and UA-cam videos? Do you need to know trig and calculas? Really enjoyed the video on the AR all I can say is wow.
My wife bought me a dividing head, and i scored more in the deal.
NYC CNC Check out my latest toolscore vid. My wife asked me what I wanted and I showed her the kijiji ad (equivalent of craigslist). She dropped the $200 down I I went and got it. She's the best.
Ya, I thought about that when I saw it with no manual. lol But I figure there's enough people out there in this youtube community and forums that when I actually need to use it, I'll get tons of help. It's one of those things I didn't need to get right now, but at that price I cannot let it go by.
Keep the vids coming John, I like the mix of things you're doing. Once I get un-busy at my real job I am hoping to take the plunge and get an arduino, thanks to the stuff I've seen on your channel.
I kind of think you forgot something - anyone doing cad or cam - a 3dconnexion spacemouse.
The cheapest ones are below $100, once you've used them they are brilliant.
I thought you said ''don't know if you watch Keith Fenner's videos, since I'm only talking to the WISE right now, I'm sure you do not''!
haha... Dremel, but done right :)
Btw, Boo to the thumbs down!
Some really good suggestions, couldn't agree more with your final comments on being thankful and the true meaning of christmas.
I always accept Amazon gift cards. :) A few of my long term customers donate to the cause annually.
well, sort of. I purchase stuff that will help me help them out from the tax deductible gifts.
That's a great list john
Treat the Bridgeport to a power drawbar for xmas
cheers
Dave
did you see the bearing blocks vid?
ya
