Thanks Adrian for covering Townes Van Zandt. Sounds amazing and you always have such exquisite taste in Musician's and Music. This Artist Musician is dear to my heart just being who he was. His lyrics and songs will live on forever inspiring others. Thank you !

Thanks so much I had to play it really slow for about 3 days but eventually got the hang of it.
I like the way you don’t go into too much detail about every note so it forces me to listen by ear more rather than just breaking down everything while not listening to the little details in the song.

Incredible lesson and wonderful way to introduce a lot of people to Townes Van Zandt. I recently started to learn ‘Lungs,’ a real treasure, such an achingly haunting yet strangely life-affirming song, at least to my ears, and it’s deceptively challenging (again, for me that is; I know for Adrian and a bunch of you experienced players it might not be so tough).
    Thanks so much, Adrian!🌟

In my opinion, the greatest love song ever written. I'm glad you mentioned Live at the Old Quarter. That's the album that got me into Townes and along with the Silver Jews American Water, my favorite album to listen to on a long drive. For those who haven't seen it, the documentary on Townes called Be Here to Love Me is essential viewing. Thank you for the video and I'm looking forward to learning this one.

What a perfect pairing for driving! I believe DCB's original working title for the American Water album was 'The Late Great Silver Jews' in a bit of a nod to Townes' 1972 release!

Thank you so much for doing a tutorial on TVZ, he was an amazing guitarist and it’s hard for us beginners to imagine how to start learning just by listening to him play

It's recently been gnawing at me that I've never really spent time with TVZ's work. This is a great stimulus to do that. Loved your performance and looking forward to playing it!

Beautiful! Thank you!. There's a really nice detail to the turnaround where the final D starts with a hammer-on on the B string into a D7 shape (played together with the D string) then into the D shape (ie the 3rd fret on the B string). Its quite subtly played but really adds to the incredible tenderness of the song.

As a keen guitarist myself I normally come to this channel to listen to pointers to some of the smiths songs I’m looking to learn. Today, wow, what a song. I absolutely love it. Learning this one today and I hope to add it to my live repertoire to spread the word.

Couldn’t agree w you more re his place in the songwriting pantheon. If you ever do another one, please consider Rex’s Blues. The documentary mentioned by one of the other commenters is fantastic.

I've always admired the guitar, vocal melody, and harmony of this song. I can't make much sense of the 70's pop culture lyrics. But musically, Townes really captured something here. The Don Willians/Emmylou Harris version is the one I'm most familiar with.

If you manage this pattern you will also be able to play most of Steve Earle's songs, for example Goodbye, Pilgrim and My Old Friend the Blues. Although Earle usually plays the D chord with the F# in the bass.
