Just found this channel. MTB action, filmmaking tutorials, BTS, business insides... Perfect everything I am looking for! Really appreciate the work you put in
Obviously I'm late to the party on this but man I appreciate these videos you and Mark Matthews have been making. I'm a complete rookie at film and editing but recently got obsessed with freeride MTB and would like to start learning to film and edit more. Thanks so much for taking the time to put all this info out for people like me to learn from.. Cheers!
I did as you suggested and watched the full film first; take it from someone who has been a huge fan of MTB movies since the first NWD flics came out and seen pretty much every film there is - this is next level stuff, extremely well done Scott! The trail-thing you explained here also reminds me a lot of the film Life Cycles, where the ground changes seasons around the rider. I started competing in XC as a kid in the early 90s and have been working as a bike mechanic since 2003, for the past few years alongside my filmmaking business. I first discovered your channel when I was researching music video production, probably two years ago. Talk about a happy coincidence that you started focusing on those types of videos lately too. Love your channel man, one of my favs on YT for sure! Keep it up and can't wait for the next BTS episode. Cheers from Sweden! /Fred
Thanks Fred. Life Cycles was definitely part of the inspiration for this project - that film was ahead of its time! Glad you found my channel and I appreciate your consistent support.
Awesome. Thanks for taking us through your creative process. I’m looking forward to watching the series as it evolves. The blueprint film is amazing. Such a polished, really well shot and executed piece of MTB cinema! The masking effect looks great. I think it brings a level of surrealism that the time lapse stuff didn’t have. As an avid mountain biker I am always looking at the landscape and imagining trails. I can’t drive past a hill without visualising a bike riding down it, the masking effect nails what I see in my mind when I look at terrain and imagine riding it. I also really dig the message of this video, I am currently conceptualising a women in MTB in North East Tasmania project. I am inspired to put together what I have shot already into a pitch and showing a few companies. Thanks for the inspiration.
Hey, thanks for the awesome comment! Great to hear how much the film resonated with you and that you are inspired for your own projects. What you described is exactly what I wanted viewers to experience so that's sweet. Feel free to drop me a line on IG if you want any feedback on what you are putting together.
Thanks Cait! It WAS awesome haha. So many people rode it in the first week it's no longer what it was. Either way, glad to have contributed a new fun trail to the community and made a film in the process. Thanks for stopping by!
Love this insight into your process Scott! Just found your youtube channel after connecting on IG, will definitely be watching in the future, keep it up 🍻
Very cool to hear how this project unfolded. When you think about it it's kind of like the trail itself, building a path for yourself just ahead of what's known. Inspiring ✌️
Great to have a bit of insight on how you achieved that part of the video looks like a lot of thought and experimentation went into just this single part of the edit and boy did it deliver. Was this your first major project with the C70? How did you find it ? As I said to you in an IG comment the end result is a credit to you all and I'm looking forward to the rest of the BTS.
Thanks for watching Scott! This was all shot on the GH5. I started the project with that camera August of last year so decided to stick with that system even after getting the C70 earlier this year. I have a few other projects out with the C70 though. Overall, I love the camera. The image is amazing and the internal NDs are great. Still not 100% happy with the ergonomics and there are a few firmware updates I hope they'll add. Still not the perfect camera, but a nice upgrade from the GH5 on the video front.
Cool to look back on how this all came to life!
Yeah man, our early trials were pretty rough! Glad we put in the effort to dial it in.
as a film maker these BTS are worth their weight in gold. I appreciate it more than I can express.
Thanks for watching Corey, glad you are getting value out of these. Can't wait to share some more!

Thanks for watching Bill. Glad the videos are helpful! Good luck with it.
Definitely love the slider! It's so fun to come up with an idea and then work it out with the smallest amount of gear.
Thanks Jack! I'm really glad I invested in the slider. Elevated things so much! Thanks for watching.

How many hours did u guys spend just building the trail?
I'd guess there were 2-4 people digging for at least 60 days. Maybe more....
@@ScottBell u guys nailed it, no dig no ride👍🏻
Thanks! Was a labour of love by the end.
