- Windows Vista was released in early 2007 to very mixed reviews. But was it really that bad?

When asked the question of which Windows OS was the worst, many would say: Windows Vista. But I think it was actually misunderstood and brought a lot of things that we take for granted today in modern Windows.

I'm curious is anyone out there still using Vista? Let me know in the comments!
no
Yea
Me
I wish I could
Once in an year
Going from XP to Vista was bit of a mess, but the OS looked and felt different. Going from win10 to Win11 feels like installing a skin
Haha, that's very true, but in my opinion there are several features that make Windows 11 somewhat superior to Windows 10, such as Snap Window, extracting Zip files without Winrar, good UI transparency, Animation of applications coming in and out of the taskbar and many more things.
@@oseanzx Yes that's true as well, although I've been waiting for Win12 and rumor has it it's around the corner.
Not everything needs to be completely different.
I like windows 11. It works flawless for me.
@@ExtremeHardcoreGamer True, but since the difference is negletable then don't force people to "upgrade"
@@davepianist84 This. Windows 11 for me is pointless, they added few things in the file explorer and added a nicer looking cmd but for everything else it just feels like a more “glossy” windows 10, trying to kind of bring back windows 7 aero but failing.
EDIT: Also, windows 11 gave me so many problems I had to buy an SSD and install windows 10 on it because windows 11 slowed down my pc a lot.
Honestly, i just CAN'T hate this OS.
I remember when my parents bought me a vista laptop, it was a (dell Inspiron i think) and when i saw how Vista looked, i nearly went insane.
It was very responsive, it felt futuristic, the widgets were cool and it was very rare to see a blue screen or an unresponsive program on it. I don't really get why ppl hated it so much, after all 7 came from Vista and it wouldn't be there without it. I still love it to this day, so many good memories
Look up Frutiger aero aesthetic, you’ll fall in love
Vista was a beautiful OS. The interface design was great. XP was ugly, but very robust and dependable. 7 was the rock solid Vista, 8 was radical and a bit pointless.
One of the most reliable ways to find out if your VPN is actually hiding your IP address or current location is to use coordinate-based geolocation.
Make sure you are connected to the VPN and then just go to any search engine (like Google) and ask any of the following questions.
1) "What's my current location?"
2) "What's my IP address?"
3) "Where am I at right now?"
And you will see whether or not the VPN is actually doing what you're paying for it to do. Unfortunately, 9x out of 10, it isn't hiding anything and you are being scammed out of your money! And if that's the case, report them to a consumer reporting agency.
Since SurfShark VPN is located in the Netherlands, you can report them at "SCAMADVISER"
XP was beautiful
By all means the greatest Windows OS
@@user-ds1jt9mq4lprob cause nostalgic but xp was different styled
Xp users are mad at you
ngl XP's ui looked childish
Vista was great when on the correct hardware, and is still very much usable in 2023 with the extended kernel too, in some cases it can run even more software than Windows 7 can.
Linus Tech Tips made a video back in 2010 I believe it was, showing how stable Vista actually was.
You can also still find remnants of Vista even in Windows 10/11 if you search hard enough. One stares you right in the face, and that is Windows Fax and Scan, it still uses the old Vista design, and probably hasn't been updated since Vista.
Really every version of Windows after Vista is just Vista with a new coat of paint.
Is it on a virtual machine?
Vista on release was AWFUL and bricked a lot of otherwise (then) great computers on release. But once they fixed most of the bugs and gave it the driver support it needed, it was an extremely useable and reliable OS. Computer hardware had to adapt to Vista, but is that a problem of the OS itself or just a consequence of software advancing and hardware needing to play catch-up? These days, hardware tends to be a step ahead of most software needs so new versions of MacOS and Windows, are unlikely to have a similar problem that Windows Vista encountered.
Very well said!
@@SurfsharkAcademy I have a desktop computer that runs Windows Vista and whenever I use it it runs amazing Also don’t forget the sounds, and looks were amazing.
"Those transparrency effects wouldn't run on your voodoo 3..." You know something, they would actually 100%. When the first betas of Win 8 came out I installed it on a test PC, something with a core 2 duo but I did not have a GPU so I popped Nvidia TNT2 PCI (not pcie) GPU and to my amazement Aero freaking worked. Turns out since Microsoft planned to use Win 8 on underpowered tablets they emulated the effects in software if hardware wasn't capable... They could have done it in Vista but we "had to upgrade". Later they removed aero effects so it wouldn't matter but Microsoft outright lied that the effect could not work on unsupported GPUs. If you need to verify this for yourself install one of the early Win 8 betas with Aero interface on "unsupported gpu"...
Good point. Like you said though "The effects would run in software" on Windows 8 beta, so technically that would mean not running on the GPU. They would at least run though.
For Retro-Gaming is Vista a King! I Have a Vista Gaming-PC from 2008.
For the Windows-Update u need 4-5 updates for Vista and the Updater and install it.
After this 4-5 Updates works the Updater.
you still use vista for gaming? Awesome man.
Most people wouldn’t say windows vista or 8 was the worst. Windows ME was actually the worst. Personally I never had issues with 8. Install classic shell and bam better version of 7.
I have Windows Vista running on HP Z400 from 2009. I had trouble to get it installed on the computer, but eventually got everything working. It works so good on my HP Z400, that the Windows Experience Index (WEI) reaches 5,9 on average.
Vista was ahead of its time.
As somebody that used Windows Vista for its entire cycle it was fine even on par with Windows 7 but Windows 8 for me personally was the most irritating version. Windows 8.1 fixed that though.
My first pc had windows vista back in 2008 the good old days😢
Same my mom bought me my first samsung laptop in 2007/8 with vista os dvd's.
Can anyone advise me on my Vista Business OS, I am a novice at computers? I can get Firefox but not IE9? I can only receive limited updates when I use the wsus system. I'm trying to get the original 180 or so updates without doing it manually. Without the wsus process engaged I get "windows update error 80072efd". Thanks in advance if anyone can help?
Use the tool Windows legacy Update this will Install you all Update
People often have rose-colored glasses on when it comes to old Windows operating systems.
But Vista was simply released way too early. In 2007, my father bought me a new PC, with Windows Vista, the very first release version. It ran catastrophically, you had to confirm everything twice through UAC. Even to change a measly setting. It was annoying. The Windows Explorer was buggy and showed that it would take 10,000 years to copy the file, and then it hung up. Old hardware didn't work because there were no drivers available. Hours-long updates that failed. Every game had less FPS than Windows XP, every program ran slower than Windows XP, if it ran at all.
But yes, it looked awesome. It had a great design, it was miles ahead of its time. And it laid the foundation for Windows 7. Which in the end was just the finished Windows Vista. From Service Pack 1, the problems were fixed, and with the Core 2 Duo/AMD Phenom sufficiently fast platforms available, the reputation was already ruined.
Or some people prefer good skeumorphic design. (Emphasis on the good part)
I personally like skeumorphic design of the iPhone 4 & 5, as well as Vista
I do not share this enjoyment with windows xp, which is an example of bad skeumorphic design.
i need to install a third party performance score test made to be as simalar to windows vista/7 as possible and see how high it scores
While Vista was a huge step forward in the development of Windows, aside from the driver support, stability issues, and endless UAC popups, it is very bloated, even on computers from 2009 or 2010 that were more powerful, Vista was still slow compared to Windows 7. Also, XP was extremely lightweight and outperforms both Vista and 7 on old machines, even on machines that meet the system requirements for Vista and 7, so no one had any reason to upgrade.
Very true, though Vista was an important step forward, perhaps even a necessary one
Wonderful and beautiful software.
Must have been fascinating back in 2007
Only time I ever saw it was on my dad's aunt's laptop.
I miss the old ui and controlpanel. Was easy to find the settings you were looking for. Such a hatelove for windows vista, remember how awfully slow it could run on laptops with bad specs 😅
I remember installing Vista on my 1GHZ Celeron with 1GB RAM… so slow. I think I reformatted and put XP back in about 3 hours later.
Anybody know how to get an iso of vista?
Being the first computer I owned I loved every single part of it. (I think it runned good even with a lot of viruses I because I got one that was mean't to run vista.
I think Windows Vista had and still have the most beautiful UI ever and it's a 3D interface, Windows 10 and 11 is ugly compared to Vista, Vista was just ahead of it's time thats the problem windows 10 and 11 were the ones who should have been released in Vista's time and Vista being released now with better performance, performance was the only issue with Vista, am nostalgic about Vista
i agree on almost what you are saying Vista was the very first revolutionized version of windows in terms of windows looks and feel it's just good that back in the day's (we) modders of windows theme's in DeviantArt was trying hard to achieve that aero glass looks the blur effects, the start orb that overlaps the start menu its really hard just to make xp looks like vista, the side bar the gadgets and yet people saying all praise to win7 if you compare the two vista has more 3d looks the taskbar the orb etc, people back in the day hates it because of two factor 1. Because it's way ahead of it's time in terms of resources required and 2. It's not "Longhorn" if you ask what is longhorn? Well it's a long story and a mess Vista is not what ms promise to the ms users it's a rush windows.
Meanwhile me getting 3.2 gaming graphics rating on 7
I got 2.9, but disk was 7.1
Everyone I knew who complained about Vista were the broke asses and their cheap computers. I had a decent pc and loved Vista to bits. I still think it looks great
It was good, but I remember having a lot of issues with games. so I wound up having to go back to XP. Also, there was a lot of issues with software not working properly with it when it originally launched, where, as window seven I don’t remember having that issue.
Can it run SurfShark?
I've been around computers most of my life. My middle school gave us Mac laptops back in 06. My Highschool gave us Lenovo Laptops that ran Vista in 09. Going from Mac to Vista was quite a seamless experience considering that when both companies were really competing with both OS and mimicking each other's features. The widgets from the MAC just became the gadgets. Windows tried copying leopards sleek design. Those were some good times.
Life’s been awful so I pulled out my laptop that’s like brand new and I haven’t used it since 2007!?! Found out I can’t get it upgraded . I didn’t even notice so many years have gone by as I was on my phone instead of my lap top
Literally the reason I got a laptop back in the day was because I wanted vista... All my friends were jealous and wanted it and I had no problems with it.
4:18 : Android even iOS has this to prevent users from accidentally click that can be risky
Back then it was unheard of for Windows users.
I can't speak for OSX but sure, Linux and other UNIX alike systems asked for permissions ever since.
Still, if you were used to computers back then, Vista was the first to ask you for permissions and compared to later incarnations, the initial release of Vista was a little over protective too.
Bro windows vista is so fresh and so clean and nostalgic for me
i think its revolutionary
Vista was the best os under the 7 skin.
❤omg I need that laptop. I want to play with vista again
I have that laptop but black colour with Windows Vista
Vista may have been flawed at launch, and its SP2 was unfortunately unable to restore its reputation with 7 on the horizon. But it can’t be denied that it has probably the greatest user interface ever made after XP’s Luna and OS X’s Aqua. I love its use of teal in almost every place.
It was a sad day for me that my fave app in the sidebar run by silverlight stopped working. Would anything get it going again? I like the game on this "Saints and sinners bowling:
This was my first OS whom I could experiment a lot. It run on a Packard Bell with an approximately 500 MB graphics card. Of course, that meant I could only play games like Minesweeper and the cook game, or other ganes released before 2005 XD
I have this same laptop shipped with xp, but had vista on it. It was amazing, ran so well but unfortunately the speakers are not working even with drivers so i use headphones. I like vista! 👍
Vista was amazing, I bought and used it day one. But unlike most people, I had a dual core processor and 4gb of ram. A huge issue was HP and Dell were putting Vista on computers with less then a gb of ram, and a cheap single core processor.
Windows 7 was one of the best. I still main a windows XP system with XP and Vista partitions in case I need an older program etc. Windows 7 was what vista could’ve been!!
I wish Microsoft would go back to giving us the bare minimum needed and allowing us to expand with external applications, cause now it's just bloatware and forcing the use of features that should just optional.
Mine is from 2007 and i was stuck with windows vista for 7 years abd this video was nostalgic 😢
I was really lucky back in the day, getting a new machine when Vista just released which happened to be powerful enough to run Vista smoothly.
That's why I didn't had much of a bad time with it past the annoying UAC checks.
Being a young teen however who clicked on files online without any second guesses, I eventually made it suck up memory like crazy and all I wanted is to go back to XP.
Something not supported by my OEM machine back then, even unlocking it to install Linux newcomer Ubuntu initially only worked through WUBI, which I thought was a cool function nonetheless.
Windows 7 is basically Windows Vista SP4 with a sane UAC and uglier Aero design. Other than that, of course Vista is fine.
Still, the part of many companies selling XP grade machines sold as Vista capable was one of the big reasons why people hated it at scale.
"2007" reminds me how old I am
Microsoft, please invent the time machine
my first windows as now a 13 year old was windows 7
Honestly, I can't say anything bad about it. I had a Toshiba laptop with Windows Vista that my dad bought me and I used it mainly for school. I could surf the web, take notes, install games, do my homework (including programming in C, Java, Visual Studio), watch movies, install software, sync iTunes with an iPod Classic and iPod touch, rip CDs and even transfer songs into a Sony MiniDisc using SonicStage and didn't have a problem at all. I still have this laptop although I don't use it that much now
Can't believe hp used to be good, how times have changed
For me, i don't have any issue with Vista back then. It runs smoothly in the Pentuim duo with 2 gb RAM.
my parents were gonna throw out a hp pavilion i used as a kid, i didn’t want them to throw it away. It was on windows vista it said 2.6 on the experience index. after doing some upgrades and reinstalled windows vistaI saw it turn into a 7.2 and i was like god damn!
I have to be honest windows vista is basically windows 7 main reason they say it sucked they used a computer with the minimum requirements of windows vista if you do that it will run very slow because 512 megabytes of ram and 1 gigabytes of ram will make it feel very slow and also depending how old the computer is you won’t find any drivers so it’ll be worser but using this on a 2009 pc i7 860 windows vista runs great on here
I think windows vista look amazing. And it was waaay ahead of its time. Going from XP to Vista was a night and day difference.
I could argue and say that Win Vista with its latest SP2 became more or less WIndows 7.
I run Vista on my 2006-2007 high end retro gaming pc and i absolutely love it.
I ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ windows vista on compaq presario 5200 with max ram
My first memories of Vista...
I remember being annoyed that Microsoft had scrapped the menu slide animation (this later returned in Win 10/11). I didn't like the File, Edit, View options being moved under the command options / address bar with no option to change it back to how it's always been. I was also annoyed that keyboard select (the little dots that appear over selected buttons) was turned off by default and was a pain to switch back on. A dialogue box appeared after everything I tried to do on Vista asking my permission, which was massively annoying. I hated Vista Paint and first thing I did was download the XP version again. It was also extremely slow. Then there was the so-called legendary aero theme everyone was talking about, that would NOT work on my PC no matter what I did. It was beyond frustrating at the time. The OS was absolutely beautiful though, like a work of art and I desperately wanted to like it. Even now, I think it's the most attractive OS ever released.
Windows 7 arrived with an improved taskbar, improved gadgets, aero worked, it was fast and those annoying dialogue boxes were gone. I was annoyed that the classic start menu was scrapped, but the new one seemed ok. Windows 7 felt comfortable very quickly. The beauty of Vista was scaled down a bit, but it was still stunning.
I used Windows Vista again recently (SP2 though). It was fast, there were no annoying dialogue boxes and aero worked perfectly. It also had the classic start menu. Looking back, I think I prefer Vista SP2 to Windows 7. It's a shame the brand was ruined by SP1.
I just installed Vista on my computer the other day because it had been bought by a stranger and they had pirated the OS and I didn’t wanna mess with the programs they had running in the background to block anti piracy. It was built for XP and Vista and I had no issues finding drivers for anything except my own monitor. (It is modern and I cannot get it to run, but it still displays everything fine) it runs very well except for a memory leak I need to fix. Modern programs will be your biggest enemy. They’re sluggish for obvious reasons.
I have a light version of windows 11 where they added all the old games
It's sad that they abandoned the control panel having it's own background after Windows Vista
This OS just kinda like newer Android OS which customizable, I mean since 12 😅
I remember when I went to my grandmother's house and turned on the TV and showed her how Windows Vista works, and I still do it but with Windows 10
I wish vista could work on Haswell CPUs
Vista/7 updates are better than the latest ones.
For example, Vista and 7 will give you some time to restart for update, no force restart.
But in newer windows, no matter how important whatsoever you are doing, your os will be like "F##k your tasks, I'm updating whenever i want". Then it will restart without your permission
Justice for Windows Vista
Best looking windows version of all time
It was not bad like windows 8 or 8.1
Vista was awesome! Well, it was awesome once Service Pack 1 came along to fix a few bugs, and also once we had understood that Microsoft was extremely optimistic with its minimum RAM requirement... Mine came with 1GB which was just ok. It was very nice with 2GB, and later, it was great with 4GB! I used Vista from 2007 through 2016, completely skipping Win 7, 8, and 8.1. I only replaced it because it was becoming increasingly difficult to stream videos in higher definitions.
Just for fun, using its original DVD media, I recently re-installed Vista on that old machine -- It looks beautiful! ;-]
Great video. Vista stung Microsoft so much they released Windows 7 as a refined and updated Vista experience. Windows 7 was and remains my favourite OS over Vista. But Windows 10 is a close second.
Dude, I still have my Vista 64-bit which I had NO problem with, like my friends, who STILL had all the old hardware, and had nothing but problems. However, I also purchased a new rig with all the new hardware, processor (when dual core, quad core first came out) , gpu, etc. vs my friends XP and single processors. I still keep it, as I keep the CD install old games on it to play, that wont (and in spite of some people say what win10 ) play better (or at all) on Vista. Yes. Even for you who still remember, the dread DCM (game cd inserted for it to play) Yuch! THAT I Hated.
Thanks for the blast from the past. I only wish I had not lost so much browser support, or I would still (yes!) use it. Just sayin"
My thoughts about vista is that its good but windows 7 was just better it was just a direct upgrade
0:12 did he said Vindows Vista?
Yeah
this is so nostalgic to me
I remember vista as the OS that allowed me to make it into an anime girl OS
The main thing about vista was that it was made for alot newer computers at the time
Man windows vista is still my favorite inmy opinion
Like just remember the chess game which was the first time i played chess in a screen the bombmines number games the orbs everywhere the shape of storage and the games inthat era it was legendary
Don't forget the cupcakes factory
macOS just brought gadgets in 2024 :) , Vista just needed RAM and it was a killer OS.
Widgets= Gadgets, it's just for fun, I prefer a clean desk.
Windows Vista was better with a clean install versus an upgrade.
Vista was my working pc. It was awesome and radical. Granted it hangs a lot more than xp, but it was beautiful. Oh, and live wallpapers!!!!
windows update goes back to windows 98
if you want to know what its like to use windows without search, use windows 3.1x
6:15 and in Windows 8 too
I loved Vista, it never crashed on me. I still use 3 different versions in a VM today....just for fun 🙂
Vista is my favourite, i wish i could install it to my computer now, but its not as safe and functional anymore so i would have to avoid it sadly😢
5:48 Oh god... GTA 4 vietnam flashbacks
Yep
In 6:54 you talked exactly about me, 😂
I am pretty sure XP had Windows Update as well.
vista is the most beautiful windows ever.
I love you and i love your videos🔥❤️
shit.. watching this makes me feel old
Vista is the last good OS from windows. windows 7 was where microcrap went downhill. i used windows 7! then i got a laptop with win8 used it for couple of weeks! vista wasnt bad. the thing is the sys requirements where high. i have good experience with vista because i got it with a new high end pc at the time! so all the things people where complaining about i never expirienced
vista was an absolutely legend! After 7 windows went downhill
It was 98 that introduced Windows Update.
I loved Vista, just needed a beefy system to get it running right.
Vista SP2 🥰😍
vista walked so that windows 7 could run
Shame Windows 7 gets all the credit for what it has when most things in Windows 7 are from Windows Vista. I love both Vista and 7 but I think Vista was hated on too much. Some people hated it cause their PC wasn’t powerful enough, other people such as the ones that say XP and 7 are the best and that Vista sucks are the ones that never used Vista ever.
Chinese users have been unable to use it for 3 months. I'm very disappointed. Your efficiency in solving this problem is extremely low!!!!
win7 and vista are the same, win7 is the update for the hardware compatibility
Vista is actually a really good os. better then win 10 and 11.
Win 10 Is Laggy And slow
And Win 11 is confusing(more than 8/8.1 Ui)
My VISTA ran fairly well UNTIL I fell for the scam of UPGRADING Vista Pro. What a waste of money. Purchased directly from WIndows and installed as per instruction. Turned my system into a slow piece of crap.
Vista is not bad. Its a decent os. People keeps saying that its bad because their drivers sucks
Plus, i love everything that vista has, unlike windows 10 and 11 that has simpler stuff
