Sad Forgotten 185 year old Plantation House Hidden Away in The Woods of North Carolina

- This old plantation farm house was built around 1845-1850 in North Carolina. The original family the house was built for farmed a number of crops as well as owning a lumber mill in town. The mill operated during the civil war until being destroyed by the Union in 1864-1865. There are stories the home was used as a field hospital for a large civil war battle that happened nearby at the very tail end of the war in the winter/ spring of 1865. The house was abandoned in the 1970’s and sat vacant for many years until a restoration was begun in the early 2000’s but then forgotten again sadly. Now it’s almost impossible to even see the house as a large forest has grown up out front of it. Lots of beautiful old details inside. Thanks for watching. I had a dog from the time I was 4 until 18. That's been 42 yrs ago, but I still think of him and his face hasn't faded from my memory. I remember him vividly. And I have a few pics. Hang in there. I wish you the best in life and much happiness!!!

Loosing a precious pet is like loosing a piece of yourself. At least you have wonderful memories pictures and videos. My heart hurts for your loss.
It hurts my heart when I see such magnificent places like this knowing they're abandoned and being left to be reclaimed by the earth. I've seen so many places abandoned that can be restored but aren't. As a disabled 65 year old man that's facing homelessness for the first time in my life I wonder about so many people becoming homeless and yet there are thousands of abandoned homes everywhere... It's crazy.

Sorry for your loss😢 You were lucky to enjoy her love for all those years. I live alone with my Yorkie. He is 14 years old. I do have 2 sons, but my dog is like a child to me.

This house has terrific bones. Perfect for restoration. Deep pockets needed but much of work can be done by motivated individual with a vision. The roof obviously is in good shape, which preserved the interior. A good roof is most important.
So enjoyed the memories of Chewie. She's the outline (especially that tail!!) of my old friend, Rocky Bernard, who's now struggling with life at 15 yo, and every day I wake up to him is a special treat. There is no better company, than our canine angels. I know your heart must be broken. And so life begins anew, in the absence of that loving figure. TY for sharing, Kappy. Gone but not forgotten, like so many old houses whose memories you've carefully preserved.

Sorry for the loss of your sweet dog Chewie. I lost my rescue dog Max in June 2023, a retriever mix, who was 16 years old. Thank you for saving the little bird.

That house looks like it’s holding up well since your last video. I kinda get the impression it went for 1850 Greek Revival to a renovation c.1910 in the craftsman style. I hope someone can adapt this one for reuse. My condolences on the loss of your beautiful dog. Thanks, Kappy!

Took me years to get over the loss of our dog chigger he was like one of my kids 😢 I still tear up when I look at old photos of him…. This house is too gorgeous and really in great shape to be just left n forgotten. Every room is in good condition and staircase..the screen doors are beautiful and a wonderful location with privacy..shame for it to rot down.. thanks for sharin.. wish I could afford it

There is this feeling watching the video of this being a special house. One that says save me.
We lost our two pups during COVID three months apart and feel your loss. A 'rescue' pup found our hearts once again. He has been a great dog. Live the memories and create new ones, I think Chewie would want that. Thanks for sharing and our deepest heartfelt sympathy.

Kappy, if you aren’t opposed to traveling a bit, you should go to a small town in south central Nebraska that has a 7000 sq. ft. mansion, built in 1889, that is scheduled to be torn down in a few months. It is a wonderful old home but the owners cannot afford to restore it and feel like their only option is to offer people the opportunity to come in and salvage the beautiful architectural details from it. Who knows, if the right person saw a video of it, it could be saved! There has been some work done on it already so it isn’t in terrible shape yet.

I love how you always help the animals! I see you talk to them also! My neighbors think I’m nuts because I talk to the wild! Just yesterday I was feeding some crows and she kept cueing and me I didn’t know crows could sing I thought they just cawed!! Great video Kappy ! Keep up the great work!

I'm so sorry for the loss of your dear pup Chewie. Dogs can be such a huge part of our lives and give so much love to us. She was a lucky pup to be so loved and cared for in her life. I enjoyed seeing the photos and videos of her. Such a cute little crooked smile she had. Now all of us who see this will remember her, too. I came down to comment about the bird before I had finished the video and saw the note. I wanted to say that I appreciate how kind you are to the wildlife you come across. I think it says a lot about a person how they treat other living things, and that is one of my favorite things about these videos. Thank you for that and for sharing these videos. Wishing you well.

I love seeing these old places. It's still crazy though that people were living in fancy homes like this while they enslaved other's to do so back then.
