Incredible Forgotten Classic Southern Farm House in North Carolina Built in 1880

- This stunning and unique old Victorian farm house was built in the late 1800’s around 1880-1890. The house was built for a modest agrarian family who at one time operated a small community around the farm including tenant houses for the farm workers. Sadly in the early 1900’s as the days of sharecropping ended and single family farms began declining the farm began a steady decline as well. Until finally the family moved out for the final time in the mid 1980’s. Now the houses future is uncertain as it sits crumbling away. Glad I was able to document this place, I filmed it originally in 2020 so if you look back you can find the old video. Thanks for watching. Like and leave a comment if you enjoyed!

I think that the original house only had 2 rooms down, and 2 rooms up. All the rooms downstairs were an addition after the initial build. Great place, those porches are wonderful. The price for restoration would be very high but, so worth it. Thanks, Kappy. I really enjoyed this one

Such a great place with the added upstairs porch. Some of this reminds me of my great grandparents house in Amish country outside of Fort Wayne Indiana. They still had a well pump in the kitchen sink. No hot water. The last time I was there was around 1969 when I was 11. They were celebrating their 75th anniversary. They both lived into their 100's. Great Grandma was 104 when she passed and great grandpa was 103. Sadly after they passed the house was abandoned... Thanks Kappy, another great adventure 🤠👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Anyone who could give me an address or basic location has passed on. I'm 65 and in poor health and really can't explore like when I was younger. The first fireplace you showed is one of my very favorite styles. I love seeing the slender Ionic Greek style columns over top of each other. It is amazing that all the fireplaces were still there even though someone felt a need to break the mirrors. Great old place. Growing up with no running water, the hand pump on the back porch would have been heavenly.

Not what I came for but a happy Kappy explore surprise. I loved the porches and all the woodwork and was pleased to see that the vandalism was kept to a minimum, although I don't get what people get out of destroying things. First time I have seen wood panelling in a bathroom. Thanks once again, Kappy, keep well and safe!

Good roof on house. Metal roofs last a very long time. So hard to believe there was no attic access.

She's not too far gone! I always grumble when l see painted woodwork., and wonder what beauty lies beneath. Could the other house be for a son who also wanted to farm? A hired man? Loved the big old tree by the road, and the handy pump. Thanks, Kappy, and hi, Ruby!
Yes. It also irks me too when real wood inside houses are painted. People go crazy with the paint, when it's not necessary.
I agree about that painted woodwork, the wood grain on the few spots that were left alone was pretty interesting!!

I once knew a lady who moved into a old grand house much like this one, and she was eager to show me her remodeling ..to my internal horror, she painted ALL the amazing original woodwork and beautiful detailed gingerbread with mid 1970 enamel blue paint!! ALL of it!
To match her deep wall to wall deep green/blue shag carpet of course! I was nearly crying inside! It certainly was NOT a mid century modern style home that she was trying to make it into.. To each his own I guess, but , as they say, there is certainly no accounting for bad taste .
@@FiveElements00 That's for sure! In the Victorian era, painting the downstairs woodwork was a sign of wealth. Cheaper woods, like red pine were used upstairs. Can you imagine painting over golden oak downstairs? Aargh!
What do all of you think? When some of us think about what a pitty it is to have the historical woodwork painted in these very old homes, I wonder about whether the homes of recent times will have a similar disappointment if the woodwork is painted. For example, the oak cabinets which may be considered dated now, but not in the future.
Wow, that cheesy 70s wood paneling was really popular throughout the US. Even my grandparents installed that in their old adobe house
Wasn’t that just awful? Back then It almost caught on like a disease .. I too find that cheesy paneling cringy especially misplaced in a grand old home.
I can't help but feeling that these old abandoned houses are speaking to you...to us!
My grandma had a water hand pump right over the kitchen sink.
This one felt like a happy home. Amazing how solid it looked on the inside. And when you peeked under the house everything looked neat and dry with no rot. Too bad it won’t be saved.
BEAUTIFUL! Love the fireplaces with the mirror. I don’t even like wallpaper but this homes wallpaper is so pretty! I love the built in well. Back in the day, that would’ve been a huge convenience. Hope your New Year is going great! Thanks for sharing your amazing homes.❤

I thought you'd never go upstairs. LOL. It took you so long. I see gorgeous real wood details and beautiful wallpaper. And the homes are bigger with large porches. Homes built in more recent years are way smaller than this. I don't know how anyone lives in a one room house, it's too small. That's why I love these older homes from the late 1800's and early 1900's. The beauty and craftsmanship is incredible, and larger size so you have room to move around.

Living in a one-room house?? My father-in-law grew up in a one-room cabin built by his great grandfather on the top of a mountain. My father-in-law had 8 siblings, but some of them gradually had moved out over time as they grew up and got married. A truly delightful and loving family.
@@MeMyselfAndUs903 That is wonderful. I know in the past, plenty of large families lived in one room houses and got by just fine. People have a lot more stuff nowadays, and inside pets. So it's got to be difficult in such small spaces today. People changed.

Unusual style with the stairs starting right inside the door instead of a doorway to the side room. Very narrow house. Wonder about the overall design choices...

Next to the upstairs porch door, the wood bracket is probably for a wall-mounted phone judging by the wiring. Probably an old crank phone :) I love this house, the rooms are bright with the huge windows, and the wallpaper and woodwork are beautiful. Rooms are nicely laid out without too much remodeling. Nice that there isn't a lot of animal droppings or vandalism. Once again an old metal roof saves this place, water damage is the fatal disease of so many places you show. The pump on the porch was brilliant, how convenient! Happy New Year!
What is the timeframe of the video where you see the wood bracket?
About 10:12. It looks like more of a backboard than a bracket, I didn't use the right word. Kappy wondered what it was for, that was my best guess.
That stairwell was pretty unique. Some nice detail but then they notched that front door for the trim. Always fun to wonder all the whys and hows. ❤

No basement our parents estate, but not raised off ground, was originally built 1948 with 3 similar Tudor horse farms, LaSalle, ntario.
Love seeing those old ceilings and floors. They always add to the original feel of the house. Side note: loved the still shots in your outro! 😊

I love these old houses. Those fireplace mantels all had mirrors . My grandmother lived in a house that had 3 of those fireplace mantels like those. Her house also had a dug well on the back porch too. It had a pump later . Those houses were beautiful in their day . But was very cold in winter.
Ok, I bet it was used as a schoolhouse at some point and that board on the wall held an electric bell, and it is probably that the tight attic access is somewhere in the decay on the porch.
I do love the floor to ceiling windows in old houses.

One thing I never see is an explorer looking around the other structures sheds barns and such to see if there are any pet cemeteries as a pet owner at present my wife and I have six and have buried seven dogs in eighteen years I always think about their pets if any
We too are pet owners and have had to bury our older cats that died in our backyard where we live. It's very sad to go out there knowing the cats you loved are there. But life is sad sometimes. It's just the way it is. Thank God we still have a couple of cats inside that seem to be doing well.
Noticed no bathroom upstairs either like you said only two rooms. Back in the day of course they didnt have bathrooms in the house usually had to go outside to the outhouse that would be a long way to have to go in the middle of the night if you had to go but later on guess they had go down stairs to use the bathroom instead of going to the outhouse being from NC love these houses thankyou for sharing!
Chamber pots were put under the beds for those middle of the night potty trips.
My word, that yellow and blue wallpaper really grabs the attention! 😂 The upstairs bedrooms are a good size with fireplaces in each room and beautiful long windows. Wonder why only 2, though? 🤔 Love an upstairs porch!! Maybe that wooden panel on the wall upstairs was to mount a hall lamp? Sconce of some sort? The fireplace mantels seem to have been bought at the same shop. Montgomery Ward catalog, perhaps? Tfs.

It looks like someone later painted over that fireplace mantel with the partially broken mirror with brown paint, and some of the doors too. What an amazing Dame she obviously was in her time! The original dark wood around that upstair door & baseboards sure looks better than then putrid brown on the other woodwork. Jmo

My dad bought estate with, free water, us 14, showers, laundry etc and bb ice rink in massive yard, every winter for many years..

The staircase and wainscoting are gorgeous. Even if the house can't be saved, I hope they save the woodwork.
What a beautiful lady!! I just eish i won that lottery in nyc the other day,id buy and have it renovated in a minute!! Love the fireplaces,stairs ,still us in ok shape considering how long it's been abandoned.Lots of history here,can it be preserved? It should be put on the historical registry.Great find kappy,

I love the old Victorian style houses they just have a beautiful look to them..and north Carolina wow I have friends that live in South Carolina..and yes cappy that is called knob n tube wireing thats before wires were insulated..(covered)very old and was very dangerous..and that house could be saved its in pretty good shape yet..

Another amazing old house I really love your finds and you allways show and explain everything you find out about the home's you find you can see at one time this was a really beautiful home I can imagine when it was full of life and love thanks for sharing kappy look forward to seeing your next one .
Another great one,loved those old houses, I'm an old man now, and I grew up in one of those old places as a kid,the celadons were built very high so that the heat would rise to them, that would make it cooler down lower parts of the house, great job young man brings back memories.

Love that well pump, it surely was a much appreciated feature back in the day. We modern folk take for granted what the inhabitants of that house would have considered a luxury. Great light in this house! And yes it's kinda awful to see that cheapo fake wood paneling. But a stupendous house nonetheless! Thanks Kappy!

according to the deed, my farm house was completed in 1871. many of the features in the house on this video remind me of my house. the trim and rosettes around the doors, mirrored mantle, the rounded windows, the built in well (in my case a cistern) the high ceilings, the turnings in the stair banisters, a beautiful home indeed
