Okay so, I'm like 90% sure that the reason why bug is super effective against psychic is because of the fear of bugs being an incredibly common fear similar to the fear of ghost, and well, fears affect the mind. As for why bug is effective against dark, it may be a crack theory but I think it's meant to be a reference to the japanese tokusatsu franchise Kamen Rider. In Kamen Rider, heroes in bug costumes would fight against evil doers and stuff. It may be a stretch but I think it would be a cool reference if it's true.
I think the leading theory on why bugs are effective against psychic is because of entomophobia. Of course there are dangerous bugs in the world, however most typical bugs are relatively harmless to humans so its considered an unreasonable fear. Because of our flight or fight response, the kind of concentration required to awaken psychic powers gets disturbed.
I've seen over the years the all of Psychic type weaknesses are the most common fears, Ghosts(or death), the Dark, and Bugs, like you stated. Hard to stay focused when you're faced with a great fear.
There's also the theory that psychics are unable to read the minds of bugs because their brains are so small. I forgot where that came from but that's the theory I heard more about.
@@Hero_of_Sinnoh Dark and Ghost are also super effective against Psychic for the same reason, because Dark (as in the literal dark being a common phobia due to the unknown and as in evil almost being fear itself) would terrify almost anyone and Ghosts are spoopy.
I'm surprised that in the segment explaining why Fairy is weak to steel types, you did not mention cold iron. Also, "...Normal and Fighting can't affect Ghost types and vice versa" is not 100% accurate. It is true that Ghost is immune to both Normal and Fighting and that Normal is immune to Ghost, but Fighting is *not* immune to Ghost (nor does it even resist Ghost).
On screen I only showed normal being immune to ghost not fighting. But I get how my wording can make it seem like I implied otherwise. Also what's cold iron?
@@Hero_of_Sinnoh I don't know the process of making it, but cold iron (I think short for cold-wrought iron) is iron produced a certain way, and according to folklore, fey are weak to it.
I've never ever liked dark type. I understand why it was made, to counter physic. But, originally I thought it meant like... dark energy. Darkness. Like Kingdom hearts style dark energy. But, instead, it actually means "trickster, criminal, evil" type. Wtf? So all dark Pokemon are evil? Their moves are not really a type, it's just a thing... like bite and pursuit. Ghost and dark seem redundant, as well... Fairy felt like a "light" type to me. But, like you said, it doesn't make sense how they are so powerful when fairy type Pokemon look so ridiculous and weak. Fairy type seems more like a "cute" type of something, which irritates me. They should have boosted the Fey element rather than pushing the cute element.
"So all dark Pokemon are evil?" Not really. From what I know, the Japanese word has less... absolute connotations than English "evil" and is actually kinda more like "bad". Also, some Dark Pokemon are explicitly not actively malicious like Absol who is feared, because it is thought that it causes disastter, while it merely shows up before it to warn people. Nonetheless, it being a bad omen is essentially the reason why it is a Dark type, even if it tries to be helpful and does nothing morally wrong.
@@vladprus4019 bad and evil are literally synonyms. Anyway, "bad" isn't a type. It's not an element. It's a moral action. That's like having a justice type. Or depression type. Or funny type. It makes no sense in the context of the other types which are based off of properties and elements.
I think it would be better to give each Pokemon individualized weaknesses, since a Pokemon would be either too strong or too weak depending on the Type/s they're assigned to. Being a Bug Type is essentially a death sentence at this point. And if anyone's worrying about memorizing each Pokemon's weakness, a good way to fix that is to view their weaknesses without penalty via the Pokedex.
I heard that bug is super effective to psychic because of phobias. Psychic doesn't represent inner peace, it represents the mind, in general. Bugs are a common fear to people. Ghosts are a common fear. These are both good against the mind, psychic type. Ever been afraid of the dark? Same thing. Dark is super effective against the mind as well.
Psychic is also weak to dark and bug since it's 3 weaknesses (bug, dark, ghost) are based on fears, in this case on the common fear of darkness and entomophopia (fear of bugs)
I'm not sure if it's true but I heard that the reason why bug is effective against dark is because Satoshi Tajiri (inventor of pokemon and founder of the pokemon Company/Game freak) was a Kamen Rider Fan. It's like Power Rangers but the heroes are mostly Insect themed and fight aginst evil (the japanese name for the dark type like mentioned in the video)
Some others in the comments have also told me about this. It could be the case but at the time of making the video I wasn't aware of this. Either way in this video I tried explaining the more symbolic and logical reasoning outside the games internal influences like what you mentioned and balancing.
Ok Fairy makes a little more sense for me and yes js more just a balance thing against dragon type, but why Fairy resist bug? Bug is the worse type in the game, and they add a new type to counter the top one but also makes the worse type even worse? Like some Psychic types loses they bug weakness because they gain the Fairy type...
That's a hard one, not sure why ay, I guess if fairy represents nature and life, bugs are apart of that natural order and can't really have a negative effect on that. That's the best explanation off the top of my head but not sure overall. It shouldn't had as you said because it just unnecessary nurf to the type
@@Hero_of_Sinnoh also they could change some types weaknesses and effectiveness like: Fairy>>Fighting ❎ Bug>>Fairy ✅ The combination of Fairy/Steel is broken af, Immune to Poison and Neutral to Fighting and Steel, that's why Zacian is Broken and Zamazenta is just ok/meh
True that, but not always, using light saber aggressively doesn't mean he always uses the dark side, eg obi wan vs maul in ep 1 he switched to a more aggressive style.

I didn't know that, actually would be cool if that's the reason.

Bug is also strong against psychic because psychic represents the mind and fear of insects is one of the most common fears out there
Very true. Didn't think of that actually.

I always thought bug was effective against dark because of, like, fireflies. Just a connection I've made as a child and never let go of 🤷♂️
Didn't think of it like that but hey could be, it's all speculation anyways ahah
The first time bug types resistances have made sense to me

Ahah thanks appreciate it! Glad you enjoyed the video.
Steel should be super effective against dragon the only way to slay a dragon in most media is with a sword or metallic item like bows
If Fairy also represents nature, then Grass types should also resist fairy? I think?
True, not sure why it doesn't.
Bug is super-effective against Dark because Kamen Rider. Bug-like hero beats villains.
EDIT: fug someone already mentioned this :/
Only like the 3rd time bro 🤣
shadow boxing
