Honestly. You're lucky that you got the rereleases of the previous Pikmin games. Most franchises didn't get that, much less dlc. Where's F-zero gx? Where's punch out Wii? Where's Luigi's mansion 1? There's too many incomplete franchises on the switch to bother with dlc.
To be honest, Pikmin 4 already has multiple free DLC built in: Trial of the Sage Leaf and Olimar's Tale, both are separate experiences that could've been DLC but aren't. I think it's quite nice we just got a complete, traditional game.
Absolutely, couldn't have said it better. This game shipped in a complete state. With that said I definitely wouldn't mind more of one of my favorite games, but I'd rather they start working on a sequel earlier than to get some DLC soon.
I genuinely think Olimar's Shipwreck Tale, as well as the Sage Leaf Trials were considered DLC at first, but they wanted the game to get reviewed as positively as possible, to grow the fanbase bigger than ever, so they threw in those modes for free.
I can see the idea for Olimar's Shipwreck Tale being a DLC but Sage Leaf Trials feel a bit too... important 2 Onions locked behind it, the ending changes slightly based on your progress, and it feeds into the general theme of the core game (dandori) much more than Olimar's Shipwreck Tale does. Sage Leaf Trials feels like Pikmin 4's challenge mode (and while Pikmin 3 did later add some extra challenge mode levels through DLC, the challenge mode itself was ultimately included at launch).

Hey, I'm still wondering where the FLIP the next Star Fox game is? Reminder to everyone that Miyamoto stated in an interview after Star Fox Zero came out that he "wants to put more energy into Star Fox and Pikmin". It so incredibly disappointing that Star Fox has just skipped the switch generation, a perfect time to really test Star Fox's status without BAD data getting in the way. I want to have that Arlo Moment, I want to be massively stunned and excited for something. The only thinks that have only done that are rumors of Star Fox Assault getting a remake or remaster and that might not happen.
Consumers shouldn't hope for developers to withhold content until after you've made a purchase, I don't care how common season passes and such have become, the best case scenario is if development started post launch.
Another possible scenario is they could be waiting for the next system to be officially revealed, that way they can not only announce DLC but also announce "deluxe" addition for the next console as a launch title or a launch window release, Switch owners can buy the DLC but it would come packaged with the next gen version
Maybe they’re waiting for switch 2 so they can release pikmin 4 deluxe with extra content. People would probably be annoyed but it seems like the kind of stunt Nintendo might pull.
As fun as DLC is sometimes, not every game needs it. In fact I rather like that Nintendo only rarely releases DLC because it shows that for the most part they focus on releasing complete experiences without purposefully holding back content for later like a lot of other studios do. When games are already so expensive, sometimes it doesn’t feel great to have to pay even more just to get the complete experience. Every once in a while after a game is fully complete, if the devs then still feel like there’s more significant value they can add with DLC, especially if it wouldn’t work as its own game, then that’s when I find DLC at its best (ex. Echoes of the Eye for Outer Wilds or the free expansions to Hollow Knight)
'we got a brand new top-down Zelda' ... 'which also happens to be the first title staring Zelda herself' meanwhile Zelda: the Wand of Gamelon exists. a Zelda game, where Zelda was the main character, which released over 30 years ago. Hektan: "you've killed me..." Zelda: "good!"
Ive noticed that when it comes to paid DLC, Nintendo usually announces it ahead of the games release. Breathe of the Wild, Fire Emblem, Xenoblade Chronicles, Smash Ultimate, Splatoon 2 and 3. Hell, i think even Luigu mansions 3's multiplayer DLC was announced ahead of the games release. There's some exceptions but for the most part if they dont announce it before the games release, i dont expect anything coming.
I think pikmin 4 was pretty full of content as is, honestly if they put olimars side story as paid $15 DLC instead of being included in the full game, none of you would bat an eye.
On the subject of Star Allies, while I don't think anything has been confirmed I always felt like 90% of the post launch content was meant to be in the base game. It's no secret that the games felt kind of shallow when it came out and I believe that was for two reasons: First getting the friend AI to work properly and figuring out how to design the game so that none of them ran into any problems and second because they didn't want to miss the 25th anniversary. They were almost a year late with the actual release itself and all the content wasn't added until late 2018. They decided to release the game early to still be part of the celebration and settled on adding the other stuff later. Heroes in Another Dimension was specifically made in response to criticism yes, but the Dream Friends were most likely meant to be there from the start, given the rest of the games legacy celebrating nature. Forgotten Land was a complete game at launch so HAL probably didn't see a reason to give it DLC.
They also may be planning a Pikmin 4 Deluxe for Switch 2. Especially if Pikmin 5 is a few years away. But my first thought was that we already got the DLC content built into the fame with the Olimar story and cave trials.
IMO Pik 4 launched with DLC included. Olimar's Journey and the Dandori Trials both feel like they _would've_ been sold to us for extra by any other games company, but Nintendo just included it in the base game for free, like the old days before DLC.
I'd love to see some snow levels DLC, Released around mid Nov. Make the red or rock Pikmin heat absorbent when walking across fire, and give them some sort of ice/snow melting ability.
I never was into pikmin..until pikmin 4..my son started playing..got me playing..within a month of owning pikmin 4 we now have all 4 games and we play bloom everyday!!!! I understand the hype now. 😅
I personally think the culture of DLC is horrible, and i am glad that we didnt get any (to date) for Pikmin 4. I commend Nintendo on a job well done after this game releasing in full after over half a decade in development hell.

…Why are you grabbing those pitchforks and torches…?”
Honestly this is probably one of my favourite Arlo videos ever. That LEGO analogy was great and that copium joke at the end was honestly hilarious!
I too have a couple flying flatterchucks that need answering.
Fox McCloud: Does me or my team mean NOTHING to you anymore?! Why not us, Nintendo? Where is our comeback?
Where is the Pikmin 2 long form review? We've been waiting
I actually didn't know Miyamoto had hoped that Pikmin would become bigger than Mario, that's news to me wow
They’re waiting for your big review first, silly!
Another possible scenario is they could be waiting for the next system to be officially revealed, that way they can not only announce DLC but also announce "deluxe" addition for the next console as a launch title or a launch window release, Switch owners can buy the DLC but it would come packaged with the next gen version
The fact that we still never got two player story with Oatchi hurts my soul.
It doesn’t need DLC
Maybe they’re waiting for switch 2 so they can release pikmin 4 deluxe with extra content. People would probably be annoyed but it seems like the kind of stunt Nintendo might pull.
anybody gonna talk about the wall of text at 6:32??? ARLO WHAT DOES THAT MEEEEAN
'which also happens to be the first title staring Zelda herself'
meanwhile Zelda: the Wand of Gamelon exists. a Zelda game, where Zelda was the main character, which released over 30 years ago.
Hektan: "you've killed me..."
Zelda: "good!"
“The first title staring Zelda herself!” I guess Arlo has forgotten Zelda: the Wand of Gamelon lol.
I feel like pikmin 4 doesn't need DLC because it was released as a complete game
I don't understand it, but at 6:32 there is a long piece of writing. I set the playback speed to .25 and it was a really interesting read haha
I think pikmin 4 was pretty full of content as is, honestly if they put olimars side story as paid $15 DLC instead of being included in the full game, none of you would bat an eye.
Pikmin is getting better treatment than Star Fox at this point ;_;
Dlc that turns off autolock
maybe they are trying to return to a philosophy of releasing "complete" games instead of relying on dlc to fill in the content.
I think the game is pretty satisfying as it is. Would rather they just focus all attention on Pikmin 5.
If that ever happens.
They also may be planning a Pikmin 4 Deluxe for Switch 2. Especially if Pikmin 5 is a few years away.
But my first thought was that we already got the DLC content built into the fame with the Olimar story and cave trials.
it had just occurred to me that pikmin 4 turns a year old in a week, yipee
I don't know why this is surprising, we've known for years that nintendo doesn't like to make dlc, just sequels that can be charged at full price
IMO Pik 4 launched with DLC included. Olimar's Journey and the Dandori Trials both feel like they _would've_ been sold to us for extra by any other games company, but Nintendo just included it in the base game for free, like the old days before DLC.
I'd love to see some snow levels DLC,
Released around mid Nov.
Make the red or rock Pikmin heat absorbent when walking across fire, and give them some sort of ice/snow melting ability.
100% agree. Especially on the level editor. Whether they add it to 4 or make a standalone Pikmin Maker, I'd love to see it.
I never was into pikmin..until pikmin 4..my son started playing..got me playing..within a month of owning pikmin 4 we now have all 4 games and we play bloom everyday!!!! I understand the hype now. 😅
Don't worry, I've heard that the dlc is actually in development and very close to completion.
Dont worry, Arlo. It's basically almost done!
Pikmin 4 DLC is "close to completion."
I personally think the culture of DLC is horrible, and i am glad that we didnt get any (to date) for Pikmin 4.
I commend Nintendo on a job well done after this game releasing in full after over half a decade in development hell.
Not gonna lie. When the Pikmin noise went off at the end, I thought it was my phone 🤣. I have the Pikmin noise for my text ringtone for one of my brothers, lol.
I JUST GOT INTO PIKMIN 4 AGAIN AND THEN THIS POPS UP!
There isn't going to be one. There never was 😢
The real DLC were the Men we Picked along the way
holy crap pikmin 4 is ALMOST A YEAR OLD!?
Wait, Arlo, *WHO IS KLENN* and what happens at the pond?!?!
