Great video, even greater fighter, and also a great man who should remembered and appreciated. Larry Holmes, the world of boxing is indebted to you more than it knows.
Look at round 7 in the fight where Holmes abused an old -sick Ali. Ali danced and jabbed and won the round and Holmes had difficulty in that round. The only round Ali won. He would have handled Holmes. But Larry in my opinion is one of the top 5 Heavyweight Champs of All time.
+Man of Steel the fact that it took for the corner men to stop the fight is a testament to Ali and shows how Holmes would really have had no chance against an in prime great
Very underrated because he had to follow Ali/ never wanted to fight a shot Ali, was robbed twice by Spinks(boxing politics) and would have beaten Tyson if 8 years younger and no 2- year layoff/ but we'll never know. One of the best ever who ducked no one !!!###
Sam, you gotta hire some interns if you haven't already, man. This show was made in 2011 but you have graphics and music that sound like it's straight out of the 90's.
Ring years, Ali was old as shit. You don't go through those wars of Manila and Rumble in the Jungle without them taking a toll on you. He wasn't a normal 38 year old, Fighters lose something when they take beatings, it's the same reason why Meldrick Taylor was never the same after Chavez.
He was ready mind and body when he fought Cooney. If he had been that ready in all his fights he would have been the greatest of all time. I could say the same about Muhammad Ali and Riddick Bowe. When these guys became champ they wanted to slack off and win on their name and/or reputation. They could win against most people doing this but it made them look bad.
Would have loved to have seen a young Larry Holmes like in 1979, the Holmes that fought K. Norton Rip, E. Shavers........... that would have been some fight, Holmes had a jab that was like a jackhammer, Class act.
Larry learned from Ali: He could stick , move and his jab was incredible. Moreover, when he got hit then his heart and killer instinct went into overdrive to win.
Grew up watching BIG JACK we loved yelling that out down here in our hotels in Melbourne australia...what a arsenal of hits..the greatest long range puncher ever ..hope he ain't reading this
Ali in his Prime was faster than any other Heavyweight in history....speed....stamina....chin and heart is why Ali was the best....Larry is maybe 3rd behind Joe Louis....
I'll bite. You did notice the LOL? My statement was an attempt at humor, nothing more. Sometimes I do think small, and sometimes I am not "cool", but I respect your right to freedom of speech. Don't judge me too harshly bud, I am living life w/ a sense of humor, and a grain of salt. Peace to all of you.
Nobody ever beat Larry decisively except Tyson and that was way after Larry's prime. The second Spinks fight Larry was ROBBED BLIND. And I say that as the world's greatest Michael Spinks fan. Spinks lost. Kenny Norton was robbed in the third Ali fight. Boxing is unjust to guys like Larry and Ken Norton.
@@Gameboy-Unboxingsboxing like many other sports, is a young man’s game. 38 is pretty old for boxing. Definitely past your physical peak. Not to mention an out of shape Holmes was nearing a 2 year lay off by the time he fought Tyson.
What he said about mariciano after he got beat by Michael SpinkS was a disgrace and it was directed at maricianos brother at the press conference watch it then u will.see the true Holmes george Forman was a class act not holmes
38 is old as hell in boxing, especially way back then. Nowadays we know a lot more, have better training methods, real scientific shit.....back in the day 38 was pretty much a death sentence
I like how you assume that because you didn't see a water by Mr. Holmes that we didn't offer him any. Wow, what a small way of thinking. Did you ever think that during the breaks we gave him water or he refused? Guess not. I will agree with you that Larry is a cool person but you don't seem like u r :(
How did this comb over clown Sam Lesante, ever get a TV Show? Was this one of those 3am programs? I enjoyed Larry's hearing comment's, but the interviewer obviously had no clue about boxing or he would have prepared some more relevant questions for an ex Champ of that status. A bit embarrassing to the show.
great interview champ, your still a credit to the sport after all these years
Im 13. I train at his gym. I start full training 5 days a week, I have a few pictures with him aswell. Hes so kind. Hes the best
Greatest jab in boxing history.
one of the greatest fighters of all time
LARRY HOLMES!!! LEGENDE!!!
great interview of one of the greatest boxer. Seems a cool guy
Great video, even greater fighter, and also a great man who should remembered and appreciated. Larry Holmes, the world of boxing is indebted to you more than it knows.
I like the respect is being shown to Larry by him being addressed as "champ".
Top 5 Heavyweight of all-time. Great Champion.
In his prime, Larry could have fought with any champion who ever lived.
wasn't larry da hw champion at 36 and knocked out by tyson at 38?
+jeryd2003 Coming from a 2 year retirement.
+jeryd2003 that's the stupidest comment of all time...
I understand you know stupid, in fact, I'm sure you live it but Larry was dominate in his era, sorry you don't know boxing..
@@n1kobefan not really. 38 isn't old..
My Champion God Bless him !!!
Larry was a great champ. I'm not sure Ali would have beaten him at his best.
I'm not sure about that.

1964-1967 Ali, before his best years were robbed, would still... definitely beat Holmes....no problem.
Thanks for this video, respect for Larry Holmes.
people get emotional about Ali but the facts remain Larry Holmes held the belt for 7 years what a real champion
Great interview. I enjoyed sitting down and listening to a conversation with the champ.
Very underrated because he had to follow Ali/ never wanted to fight a shot Ali, was robbed twice by Spinks(boxing politics) and would have beaten Tyson if 8 years younger and no 2- year layoff/ but we'll never know. One of the best ever who ducked no one !!!###
Larry still has his money!
A superb champ. One of the best. Not many better

uno dei grandi !
I met Larry several times he live in my area had a great time when I met him yesterday and got his autograph .
Two good guys.
who is this guy how did he get holmes to show up at his house for interview...and only 51 views......

Ali was not old at 38 but he was sick.

Riddick bowe is awesome..
Great interview!

He seems so gentle like a librarian
How many times does the host say "you know"?
Great champ!
was this show made in the 80's or the 2010's, lol. mad old graphics. like that larry seems to have little punchiness. thank god for that.
Ali was past his prime when Holmes beat him. Holmes was past his prime when Tyson beat him.
Ali in his Prime was faster than any other Heavyweight in history....speed....stamina....chin and heart is why Ali was the best....Larry is maybe 3rd behind Joe Louis....
Lerru u da best !
The host has water. No water was offered to Holmes, even after clearing his throat many times. No respect...lol. Larry is a very cool person.
Assumptions aside, you don't state whether you or anyone actually offered him water, which leads me to believe none was.

Hey Bre, we've updated things since then. check out our "Shows" website at ssptv.com :)

I'm just curious. How is 38 "way way" after someone's prime?

00:40 a burp from Larry holmes?)

Lol bet you were young when you made that remark. Now it's nearly 10 years later. 😆 Still think 38 is "old as hell"?

i agree. top 5 easy.
lol womp womp
Humorless bitter man.
Great boxer though...
Great boxer. You're so right there. But what did he say in this clip that was bitter?
Dave Anaru Not with you...does the clip have to say he's bitter in order for him to BE bitter?
hyena131 fair enough. so what DOES make you say he's bitter?
C'mon man, really? I get the humor though...lol.
